2023: Crowd as Akpabio declares for president.

By Chioma Onuegbu Uyo

THERE is a massive turnout of supporters of All Progressives Congress, APC, Akwa Ibom State for the formal presidential declaration by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

As of 10 am the venue of the event, Ikot Ekpene to stadium, Ikot Ekpene local government area yesterday has been filled to the brim as they await the arrival of the declarant.

It was even gathered that some of the APC supporters from distant local government areas such as Eastern Obolo, Ikot Abasi and Mkpat arrived at the venue as early as 9 am.

At the time of filing this report, it could be observed that more are pushing their way through the throng leading to the Stadium in order to gain entry to the stadium.

Vanguard also observed heavy Security personnel positioned at strategic locations inside and outside the venue, trying to control the crowd and ensure that Law and order were maintained.

Meanwhile, a banner captioned “People’s Democratic Party, Akwa Ibom State Chapter in support of His Excellency, Chief Dr Godswill Akpabio for President in 2023”, erected at the venue has attracted a lot of attention and confusion at the event.
Reacting swiftly, State Publicity Secretary of PDP, Borono Bassey in a statement entitled, “PDP’s Banner at Ikot Ekpene Stadium: An indication to where Akpabio’s Heart and destiny let”, described the development as the handiwork of mischief-makers.

He stated “We have seen a photograph of a banner with an inscription to the effect that a party with the name- “People” Democratic Party is in support of the presidential rally of the Minister of Niger Delta, Chief Godswill Akpabio.

“Whereas the aforementioned “Party” does not exist as a duly registered Political Party in Nigeria and certainly not in Akwa Ibom State, we understand that the innuendo that the mischief-makers set out, but failed to achieve was to use the name of our Party The PDP to score points.

“In light of this, we are moved by sympathy to wonder why Akpabio’s handlers chose a day like this to embarrass their principal by reminding him that any of his political aspirations will amount to nothing if such aspiration does not come on the platform of the only Party in Akwa Ibom State -the Peoples Democratic Party.

“As a Party, we are glad by this overwhelming decision by Chief Akpabio and his handlers to again admit the obvious truth, that without the platform of the PDP, electoral victories in the state are impossible.

“More importantly, we are motivated by the reverberating message by Akwa Ibom People that the only party they have come to accept is the Peoples Democratic Party”

Bassey stressed that the commitment of the PDP in the state to continue to stay as a platform for the emergence of leaders and representatives who offer superlative stewardship to our people was total.

“Again, we must remind mischief-makers and people with unrealistic political ambitions that although we will not be the ones to throw the first salvo, we will stop at nothing to visit our sledgehammer on any political fly that wants to perch on and abuse our pristine image as a Party.

“We however offer a tot of sympathy to the Minister of Niger Delta and his few guests who will be forced to eat from the dish of this monumental embarrassment that has been served by his handlers”, He added.

2023: Igbo youths warn leaders against endorsing non S’East candidates

By Chinedu Adonu

Igbo Youths Council, on Wednesday, warned the Igbos against endorsing any presidential aspirant from outside the South East region.

This warning came amidst a purported endorsement of the All Progressives Congress, APC, leader and presidential aspirant, Ahmed Bola Tinubu by a certain Miracle Nwosu.

Addressing a press briefing in Enugu, the leader of Igbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike said that the person behind the said endorsement does not exist in Igboland.

Okwu, who was visibly enraged, said no sensible Igbo man could have talked of endorsement of any aspirant even when political parties were yet to conduct their primary elections.

Okwu, who was visibly enraged, said no sensible Igbo man could have talked of endorsement of any aspirant even when political parties were yet to conduct their primary elections.

“Today, we decided to address the media owing to a series of calls and enquires, which borders on the purported endorsement of Bola Tinubu by a certain phony character, who gave his name as Miracle Nwosu.

“This came to us as a surprise, more so, when every check showed that no such person has ever existed in Ohanaeze or in Igbo land as a whole, but is a character created out of desperation to hoodwink the unsuspecting members of the public.
We are very much aware that all the political parties are still in the process of choosing their flag-bearers. In that case, it is absolutely weird for anyone to endorse any aspirant.

“It is clear that some jobbers and dubious characters have swindled the APC presidential aspirant using a fictitious character”, Okwu said, declaring that, “Ndigbo are not known to be visionless as portrayed by the fellow in the said press statement.”

He warned that, “we have already set up a committee to find out those behind this hatchet job and they will sooner than later hear from us. We will not sit by and watch anyone, no matter how highly placed, truncate the Igbo presidency project.

“I will also advise politicians to shine their eyes and avoid falling prey to serial dupes who are going about in the name of all manner of endorsements.”

“We advise the APC national leader, Tinubu, to seek a refund of his money from wherever this endorsement was procured because it does not exist anywhere, Okwu stated.

Days after allegedly distributing vehicles to supporters, Malami launches multi-billion naira hotel

Mnister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, has opened a new hotel in Kebbi state.

The new sprawling edifice is located along Sani Abacha Byepass, Birnin-Kebbi and named “The Azbir.”

According to a report of Sahara Reporters, the hotel was supposed to be launched today, May 4, 2022 but was canceled due to recent allegations against the Minister of Justice.

Recall, INTEL REGION reported that Abubakar Malami gifted members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State over N1bn worth of Mercedes Benz GLK and Toyota Prado Jeeps.

Malami’s gesture was said to be in preparation for formal declaration of his Kebbi gubernatorial ambition. The Minister of Justice on April 28, 2022 declared his intention to contest Kebbi state governorship under the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

However, on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, an aide of the Minister, Umaru Gwandu said friends and associates of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice are the ones who donated exotic vehicles of assorted brands to his loyalists in Kebbi State.

The AGF since his appointment in 2015 have been alleged to be using the office to amass wealth to himself, making Nigerians to be asking if President Muhammadu Buhari is really fighting corruption as claimed.

In a series of detailed investigation done by Sahara Reporters in 2020, it was gathered that Malami had acquired several properties whose value run into many billions of naira since being appointed into the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria’s chief law officer.

For example, the AGF has an underground hotel in Sokoto, three houses at Peace Estate, Abuja, a brand new state-of-the-art school in Kebbi, two houses for his sons worth N100m each and a new hotel under construction in the Jabi area of Abuja.

Also according to reports, Malami recently acquired a house worth N150million in the Gwarimpa area of Abuja. Also, he built a N3billion multipurpose event centre in Kebbi State named Azbir Arena for his son in Kebbi state, to mention but a few.

While all these might be allegations against the Minister, his next ambition is said to become governor of Kebbi state under the APC.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) price for obtaining Expression of Interest and Nomination Form for governorship is placed at N50 million and its gubernatorial primaries is slated for May 11.

Education › How Do You Celebrate World Teacher’s Day by eddie7(op): 9:03am On May 03, 2022
Teachers have played tremendous parts in our lives. So how do we celebrate them?

As we move closer to the special day, let’s look at some of the ways we can honour celebrate our teachers.

Say ‘Thank You’ to your teacher

Students can give their teacher a card or gift, write a poem or create a piece of artwork. Teachers feel happy when they know that their students are learning something and their work is not in vain. The key here is to get as much creative as possible and give a sweet surprise to your teachers!

Interact with them personally

Consider reaching out to your favourite teachers and let them know how they had a powerful effect on your life and career choice. Let the teacher know why his or her past interactions were so meaningful.

Throw a party for them

Parents at the local school can get together to thank educators by throwing them a special reception or party. Ideas might include offering refreshments, holding a special program (songs, poems, or other recitals made by students), and offering each teacher a gift made by the students.

Express love and respect to them

Tell them honestly how they contributed to your success.

Flaunt messages on a white t-shirt that admire teachers and their teaching.
Treat them with what they love to eat
Present them with things like cute memo pads, well-made organizers or a super-special pen.

Parents can also give their child’s teacher a note that lets them know how much they appreciate their kindness, warmth and patience.
Express gratitude through social media

Students and their families can create videos expressing gratitude for teachers and post them on social media, or hold a virtual town hall for the teachers.

Plan a role reversal activity

Students can plan an activity for the teachers specially dedicated to them. They can become teachers for some time and pretend to teach like their favourite teachers. This can be a school activity and is sure to promise heaps of fun and laughter.

Ask teachers if they need your help

It will make them happy. Try to help them in the best possible way.

Politics › 2023: Dapo Abiodun Faces Disqualification From APC Over Fraud Allegation In USA by eddie7(op): 9:11am On Apr 30, 2022
2023: Dapo Abiodun faces disqualification from APC over fraud allegation in USA

The Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun is facing a possible disqualification from contesting under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) after a petition alleging him for fraud in the United States of America surfaces.
A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Ayodele Oludiran, had petitioned the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu, on behalf of Oluwatobi Sofela of Ogun Bibire Unity Forum that the state governor, Dapo Abiodun cannot be the candidate of the party in 2023.

The petition which was signed on 12 April, 2022 claimed that Dapo Abiodun’s candidacy would portend danger for the APC with the damning allegations against him.

The petitioner, Ayo Oludiran maintained that Governor Dapo Abiodun was accused of “concealing criminal offences he allegedly committed in the USA in the 1980s.”

He also claimed that there are discrepancies in Forms CF001 the governor filled in 2015 and 2019 with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to him, while contesting for governor in 2019, Dapo Abiodun claimed he attended International Primary School Ayetoro in 1971. But four years earlier, while he was running for Senate, the governor submitted another primary school, Comprehensive High School Ayetoro State Primary School, in 1971.

He maintained that both schools said to have been attended by the governor which would have been in the present Ekiti State or Ogun State – of the Old Western Region of Nigeria could not be located anywhere after thorough findings.

Recall that on Thursday, April 28, 2022 Dapo Abiodun officially declared his intention to run for a second term in office along with his deputy, Noimot Salako Oyedele.

He claimed that a certain ‘The DA Mandate Group’, led by one Apagun Biyi Adeleye, had raised funds for the purchase of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for his second term bid.

In a March 2022 report of Sahara Reporters, it was gathered that the Ogun state governor was on November 7, 1986, apprehended for fighting and injuring a police officer in an attempt to resist arrest.

While being processed at the station, his fingerprint was run through the crime database and it was discovered that the Adedapo Oluseun Abiodun being processed for detention was the same as Shawn Michael Davids, who had been on watchlist for credit card fraud, petty theft and check forgery. Abiodun was later jailed in Miami Dade Florida, USA.

However, in 2015, while contesting for the Ogun East Senatorial seat against the late Buruji Kasamu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he applied for the redaction of his criminal records in Florida.

This act of concealment meant he could lie on his Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) forms that he had no prior criminal records. A perjury offence that could have disqualified him from ever holding an appointive or elective office in Nigeria. The redaction was granted in August 2015.

While this was unfolding, some quarters claimed that the governor is still active in the fraudulent act which he was accused of years back. In August 2021, a Senior Special Assistant to the governor, Abidemi Rufai was suspended after he allegedly boycotted the United States data system using 10 different emails in 14 days, defrauding Washington State Employment Security Department of over $350,000.

Abidemi who is currently in custody in the US also used a pseudonym to carry out the fraudulent act.

Crime › Premier Of British Virgin Islands Alturo Fahie Arrested In U.S. For Drugs by eddie7(op): 5:49pm On Apr 29, 2022
Premier Of British Virgin Islands Alturo Fahie Arrested In U.S. For Drugs

The premier of the British Virgin Islands Andrew Alturo Fahie was arrested Thursday on drug smuggling charges in South Florida, federal authorities said.

Alturo Fahie was arrested alongside the Managing Director of the territory’s ports Oleanvine Maynard.

Both were taken into custody by U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents at Miami-Opa-locka Executive Airport.

They were charged with conspiracy to import cocaine and conspiracy to launder money, according to a criminal complaint.

Maynard’s son, Kadeem Maynard, faces the same changes in the alleged scheme, according to the records.

“Anyone involved with bringing dangerous drugs into the United States will be held accountable, no matter their position,” DEA Administrator Anne Milgram said in a statement.

“Today is yet another example of DEA’s resolve to hold corrupt members of government responsible for using their positions of power to provide a safe haven for drug traffickers and money launderers in exchange for their own financial and political gain.”

Fahie and Oleanvine Maynard had been at the airport to meet Mexican drug traffickers, who in reality were undercover DEA agents, to see a shipment of $700,000 in cash that BVI officials expected to receive for helping smuggle cocaine from Colombia to Miami and New York, the complaint said.

A DEA confidential source had previously met with Maynard and her son after being introduced by a group of self-proclaimed Lebanese Hezbollah operatives, according to the complaint.

After Fahie became involved, it said, the BVI officials agreed to let the smugglers bring the cocaine through the port at Tortola before continuing on to the U.S.

Governor Of The British Virgin Islands John Rankin released a statement clarifying that Thursday’s arrests in Florida were not connected to a Commission of Inquiry issued last year in the territory.

That investigation was meant to focus on governance and corruption, not a criminal investigation into the illegal drug trade, Rankin said in a statement posted online.

It isn’t known whether the commission had found any suspected wrongdoing by Fahie or Maynard, but Rankin said he expects to have the results published urgently to avoid unnecessary speculation.

The British Virgin Islands, with a population about 35,000 people, is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean Sea, located east of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The governor is appointed by the queen, the territory’s ultimate executive authority, and acts on her behalf.

The premier is the head of the government and is elected in a general election along with the other members of the ruling government.

Nairaland General › Just In: NLC to Embark On Nationwide Strike In Solidarity With ASUU by eddie7(op): 8:57am On Apr 29, 2022
JUST IN: NLC to embark on nationwide strike in solidarity with ASUU

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a threat to embark on a three-day nationwide warning strike if the Federal Government continues to ignore the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The NLC also revealed that it has given the Federal government a 21 days ultimatum to act on ASUU’s demands or face a nationwide strike of the Nigerian Labour.

ASUU and other university unions including the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) have all been on strike over for the last two months.
The strike actions by these unions have forced the shutdown of all public universities in the country. According to the unions, the strike became necessary following the failure of the government to implement various agreements.
Rising from a meeting in Abuja, the NLC Central Working Committee in a communiqué issued on Thursday, said it will embark on solidarity protests and strike after a 21 days ultimatum to draw the government’s attention to the prolonged shutdown of the universities.

The communiqué was signed by the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba and General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja.
There have been a lot of back and forth between ASUU and Federal government since ASUU began a warning strike earlier this year, however no concrete meeting or agreement has been made to ensure the reopening of Nigerian universities.

ASUU on February 14, 2022 announced a four week total and comprehensive warning strike following the inability of the union and the Federal Government to reach a common ground on the demands of university lecturers.
Some of ASUU’s demands include the release of revitalisation funds for universities, implementation of the re-negotiated 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement and the release of earned allowances for university lecturers.

Others are deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) for the payment of salaries and allowances of university lecturers.
Following the expiration of the initial four weeks of the warning strike, ASUU had on March 14, 2022 gone ahead to declare another eight weeks strike, saying that it was giving the government more time to meet its demands.

The eight weeks strike which is expected to end by May 14, 2022 has not produced any signs of calling off the strike action, NLC says it will intervene latest by May 4, 2022 (21 days ultimatum) should the government continue to ignore ASUU’s demands.

The NLC president Ayuba Waba said: “Within the span of the subsisting 21-days ultimatum given by Congress, the NLC will hold national protests against the current strike action affecting students of Nigeria’s public universities and occasioned by government’s failure to honour agreement reached with trade unions in our universities.

The protest is to draw the attention of the government to the inherent catastrophe in the emerging culture of social apartheid in our society, especially as marked by a prolonged lockout of students from working-class and poor homes from our public universities while the children of the rich continue their academic pursuits uninterrupted;

“And if at the end of the national protests and the 21-day ultimatum, the Federal Government still fails to resolve the industrial crises in Nigeria’s universities, the congress would be left with no other option than to embark on a three-day nationwide warning strike action in solidarity with our affiliates in the universities and with Nigerian students whose future and wellbeing are being robbed.”

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, has asked members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to go back to classes as the ongoing strike is unjustified.

He made the statement after purchasing a N100,000,000 expression of interest and nomination form of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to run for the office of the president in 2023.

According to him, ASUU’s demands asking the Federal government to utilise UTAS ahead of the IPPIS is impractical. He said: “It is impractical and incongruous to continuously expect that somebody who is paid a salary continues to dictate to the someone who pays him: ‘This is how you must pay me’. This is where this anomaly is.”

Oshiomole’s Senate ambition splits Edo APC group as incumbent fights to stay

The senatorial ambition of the former governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomole has created a cracks within the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Two persons who had served as commissioners in Edo State when Adams Oshiomhole was the governor have kicked against his senatorial ambition, pitching their tents with the incumbent senator who is also a member of the APC.

Mr Oshiomhole who clocked 70 years old recently, had earlier this month, declared his intention to contest for the Edo North District in the 2023 election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr Oshiomhole who has once served as the national chairman of the APC is perceived to be highly influential in deciding who gets what in the party structure.

Two former commissioners of the state, including Lucky James and Inumidun Idehen, in a joint statement, opposed his Senate ambition.

Mr James was the commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, while Mrs Idehen was in charge of Women Affairs.

According to the former commissioners in a joint statement released in Benin, on Thursday, they have pitched their tent with the incumbent Senator, Francis Alimikhena and will support him against Adams Oshiomole.

Mr Oshiomhole sacked Messrs James and Idehen from his cabinet in June 2012, one month to the governorship election in Edo.

The re-election of Mr Alimikhena, instead of replacing him with Mr Oshiomhole, would “guarantee a bigger deal” for the senatorial district, the two of them said in the press statement.

“Edo North APC youths should work in synergy with their respective leaders to ensure victory for Senator Alimikhena,” the statement said.

The statement said Senator Alimikhena, besides being the first to get the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, has strengthened his campaign organisation, as a sign of his seriousness towards his re-election.

It quoted Mrs Idehen as saying, “At my age and with my pedigree, I cannot deceive my people. I owe it a duty to lead rightly, and Alimikhena is the right person for the 2023 Senate.”

She urged the people to do the right thing by nominating and supporting the senator for another term of office.

Reacting to the statement, a chieftain of the APC in Akoko-Edo, Ayo Olowojoba, said support for Oshiomhole would drag the senatorial district backward.

“We cannot be dragging Afemai backward by allowing a new person to go to the Senate. We will deliver Alimikhena with our unity, especially the Owan and Akoko-Edos,” he said.

The incumbent Senator representing Edo North, Senator Francis Alimikhena, had on the 4th of April declared his intentions to run for a third term in the senate.

In his declaration statement released by his Director of Communication, Benjamin Atu, he vowed to use his position to accelerate massive job opportunities and infrastructure development in Edo North, when reelected.

With Oshiomole’s interest in contesting for the same position, they will go head to head to get the party’s ticket for the upcoming 2023 elections.
