The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has revealed that it is engaging pay television company, MultiChoice Nigeria, for clarity on its recently announced increase of subscription fee across all bouquets for its DStv and GOtv services. According to NAN, this was made known by the Executive Chairman of FCCPC, Mr Babatunde Irukera, during an interview on Wednesday in Abuja. FCCPC to check if Multichoice had complied with its orders Irukera pointed out that its engagement with the pay-television company is to find out if the company implemented a change in terms and conditions in line with the Commission’s mandated steps. He said that the FCCPC’s recent orders were broad and noted that it will be important that compliance is prioritised. He said, “Although we cannot, and did not regulate price except in limited circumstances requiring presidential approval and gazetting. As such, our order to MultiChoice did not prevent them from pricing their services in a manner acceptable between them and their subscribers. We regulate price gouging. The nature of gouging is post-fact, meaning that when a price movement occurs, we can investigate to determine if it is excessive, exploitative, unrestored or manifestly unjust. “Such is a very intricate investigation and the fact of the existence of any increase is not the entire evidence. There is a method to analyse the increase and other circumstances leading to it. “As in the case of pharmacies, we are prosecuting for inordinate increases of certain products during early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. For now, the first check with MultiChoice is whether they implement, or intend to, a material change in terms and conditions (of which price is one) without the steps the Commission has mandated as conditions precedent.’’ In case you missed it Nairametrics had on Tuesday, March 22, reported that MultiChoice Nigeria, owners of DStv and GOtv, had through a statement, announced an increase in subscription fees across board with effect from April 1, 2022. A staff of the pay-television company who wished to remain anonymous said the increment is due to rising costs of inflation and operations. Highlights of new rates include; DStv package now cost: Premium (N21,000), Compact + (N14,250), Compact (N9,000), Confam (N5,300), Yanga (N2,950), Padi (N2,150), Business (N2,669), Xtraview + PVR access fee (N2,900) Gotv Max for N4,150, GOtv Jolli for N2,800, GOtv Jinja for N1,900, GOtv Lite for N900. Recall that the FCCPC had earlier ordered MultiChoice Nigeria (MCN), to introduce an additional feature that allows subscribers to maintain the same subscription fee for a minimum period of one year. The additional features will also allow subscribers to have better value for money proposition for annual prepayment of subscription with the ability to suspend subscription at least once every quarter of the year. Also in the order, the FCCPC had ordered Multichoice Nigeria to introduce a price lock option that allowed subscribers to maintain the same subscription fee for a minimum period of one year subject to a contractual agreement that clearly specified the applicable terms and conditions. https://nairametrics.com/2022/03/23/fccpc-engages-multichoice-over-dstv-gotv-subscription-increase/

The story below is an experience of an Abuja resident and how to confirm your number plates if genuine. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: Just received from a friend. I Think it's time we stop over focussing on this PDP/APC, PMB and the rest issues and start looking where our problem is. I believe our problem is in the institutions of this country. I don't want to mention that of police now its for another day. It was on the 14th day of March that I drove into one of the police station to obtain the new tinted glass permit, in the process, it was discovered that the plate number of my car is being used by another car. My first question is "How is it possible?" Because I obtained this number from FRSC with all documents intact. I never know the car is going to stay for 12 days in the station. A file was quickly open and the car became an exhibit. Thank God the car was registered by a very high ranking officer of the FRSC whom was brought to the station. As the investigation was going on, it was discovered that some people were producing these fake and duplicate number plates and giving out to innocent and unsuspicious Nigerian ripping them off their hard earned money. My question is, should we now go and buy this numbers at a shop in Alaba or at Idumota instead of the Federal Government approved Agencies? In the course of my Research, I stumbled upon the Number Plate Verification System online. I started Verifying Cars of Friends, Church members and even cars that I see on the road. A shocking Revelation was made that OUT OF EVERY 10 CARS you see on the road with LAGOS and ABUJA number plates, that at least 4 is FAKE. You can check your own now. (1) Go to www.nvisng.org/numberplateverification.aspx (2) Enter your number in the space provided. Eg "ABC863AP (3) Click on verify button. Then an information will be displayed below the button. Because FRSC did not want the general public to see the full details of the Registration, you will only see the name of your car and the date of Registration. Here are some samples: 1. This number plate has been produced by FRSC and assigned to Toyota highlander on 20/01/2015. If your car is Toyota Highlander, then you are lucky its done. But if your car is for instance Toyota Camry and your Verification shows the above message, then you are in as me. #Solution is to go and Re-register your car afresh. 2. This number plate has been produced by FRSC and assigned to Matrix however the Vehicle is yet to be Registered..... If your car is Matrix, then just go back to the person that Registered your car and tell him/her to complete your Registration. 3. This plate number has been produced by FRSC but yet to be assign to any vehicle. It means that they just gave you a number plate that is not even registered in their system. Solution is to go to them to register your car and upload your information. 4. An Invalid/Wrong number plate. Do I need to explain this, NO. Verify your car first and sort yourself out with the FRSC before you even proceed to police for tinted permit cos if police are the one to find out, then you know what follows. Many Innocent Nigerian are suffering now because of Impunity in our Institutions Note: this verification is only Applicable to the Number Plates with this formats ABC123AB not AB123 ABC. Let us spread this news until everyone is aware of this evil FRSC is perpetuating. You are free to share. |

NEWSBREAKING; IGP angry as Force Headquarters reacts to PCRC Chairman wearing Police uniforms. The Nigeria Police Force has ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Chairperson for the Edo State Police Command, Mrs. Helen Atekha Odemwingie. The Force equally decried the illegal use of police uniforms, kits and accoutrements by non-police individuals and groups. In a press statement signed by Acting Force Public Relations Officer CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, “The suspension is coming on the heels of a trending picture of the PCRC chairperson and other members at a function held at the Edo State Police Command wherein the PCRC members were seen wearing black uniforms similar to that of the Nigeria Police Force, with accompanying insignias and various inscriptions”. It has been noted that the act contravenes the provisions of section 214{1} of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and section 101 of the Police Act, 2020”. “In line with the extant law, the IGP hereby warns that henceforth, any individual who adorns themselves illegally in police uniforms, would be made to face the full wrath of the law. Similarly, the IGP has ordered the police disciplinary units particularly the Force Provost Marshal, the IGP X-Squad and Monitoring Unit to clampdown on persons who engage in the illegal sales of police uniforms, kits and accoutrements, outside of police approved stores and the office of the Quartermaster”. In the same vein, the Inspector-General of Police has further directed the Force Public Relations Officer to meet and collaborate with members of the Guild of Actors in Nigeria to improve partnership to ensure proper use of police uniforms, kits and accoutrements in their movies/skits”. https://www.crimechannels.com/breaking-igp-angry-as-force-headquarters-reacts-to-pcrc-chairman-wearing-police-uniforms/

Buni asserts self, removes CECPC members from Coordinating sub-c’ttee, reappoints Fani Kayode In a political commando move to assert himself as National Chairman, Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee CECPC of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Yobe Governor, Mai Mala Buni has dumped the national convention sub-committee list earlier adopted by the CECPC acting National Chairman, Gov. Abubakar Sani Bello. He has also removed other members of the CECPC from the Central Coordinating sub-committee, naming only himself and CECPC National Secretary, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe as Chairman and Secretary of the sub-committee. Bello had, in Buni’s absence, on March 9 inaugurated about 20 sub-committees, declaring their membership composition as final. However, Buni whose mandate was given a fresh boost by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday via a letter to the APC governors had in his first major move canceled the National Executive Committee NEC meeting slated for Thursday. He followed up on Thursday morning by dumping Bello’s sub-committees and reverting to his own original list. Bello had in his list dropped some people including Chief Femi Fani-Kayode while he rejigged the composition of the other sub-committees. However, Gov. Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos State who was removed as Chairman of Media and Publicity Subcommittee to head the Finance Subcommittee has now reverted to his initial role courtesy of the new list. Fani-Kayode has also now been reappointed as Deputy Chairman of the committee as opposed to Bello’s list which had named the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed as co-Chairman. In the new list, the Buni-led committee also dropped Kano state Governor, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje as Chairman of the Protocol sub-committee, naming instead, the Kogi state Governor as Chairman of the Security/Protocol sub-committee. Ganduje will now revert to his earlier role as Chairman, Subcommittee on Accreditation of Volunteers/Diplomats/Diaspora/ Observers. https://www.intelregion.com/news/breaking-buni-asserts-self-removes-cecpc-members-from-coordinating-sub-cttee-reappoints-fani-kayode/ |
