President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr Liman Ibrahim as the new Controller-General (CG) of the Federal Fire Service (FFS).

A statement signed by Al-Hassan Yakmut, Secretary, Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board (CDFIPB) on Thursday in Abuja said that the appointment took effect from March 29.

Yakmut said that Ibrahim’s appointment was made following the retirement of Mr Joseph Anebi, the former fire service boss.

“The appointment is for an initial term of 4 years and subject to the extant rules and regulations governing retirement in the public service,” he said.

Less than an hour after THISDAY Newspapers' Brands and Marketing Editor, Raheem Akingbolu published the story of the boy on his Facebook page, K1, through his publicist, Kunle Rasheed, reached out to the writer.
@k1deultimate, the father of modern Fuji Music said he was touched by the story of the boy and offered to sponsor his post-primary education to the university level.

He described the boy as a raw talent that must be guided, supported and not allowed to waste.

"I was touched when the story was brought to my notice and I see it as one of those things one can do to impact the society. Education is key to success and who knows the boy we are talking about may be a governor or President in the making. He may become another Ben Enwonwu, Bruce Onobrakepya, Wole Soyinka or an international Artist of repute in the future. If the society fails to give him the needed support now, posterity will not forgive us. This is the time to lift a hand and groom a talent for posterity."

Meanwhile, arrangements are being made to introduce the promising artist to his new benefactor and perfect ways through which his mentorship and sponsorship would be handled.

A young man said to be a cult member in Sapele was allegedly shot dead by a rival cult group around Oriaki Road, Sapele, Delta State.

The deceased identified as Voltage Kingin Agbagu (ALIKI) was killed on Sunday, March 17, shortly after he posted photos on Facebook and stepped out to see some friends.

Friends have taken to Facebook to mourn him, with some writing under comment sections, warning the rival cult group to "get ready"

The veteran singer and self-acclaimed activist has said his father is not happy with the situation of things in the country especially the judiciary arm of government.

"I met my late father last night. He looked so so very sad. Even in his death when he should be resting in peace. I can’t imagine he is still worried about Nigeria. About the judiciary. How do I appease my father?"

An outrage has been sparked after a man was filmed dancing on a dead person’s coffin during a funeral. A cultural expert believes that this will anger the forefathers and make them retaliate.

South African cultural expert Mtimande Ngwenya told Daily Sun that not only will the man’s ancestors be angry – but so will those of the entire nation!
He believes the entire country should undergo a massive cleansing.

“This thing disrespects culture,” he said. “The country has lost its sense of humanity.”

He said the nation’s ancestors, including chiefs, struggle veterans and freedom fighters, are livid. “When these ancestors are angry, they attack the nation.”

In the video, mourners are shown carrying a coffin and singing while a man is sitting astride the coffin, riding it like a horse. He is swinging a sjambok and dancing and cheering.

The video was apparently taken during the funeral of a gangster in the Free State, although the date it was taken is unknown.

He said the video shows that South Africans can make a joke of anything. “They take funerals too lightly. “This has become a trend and someone has decided to turn this into a joke.”

He said the words on tombstones that say “Rest in Peace” are being rejected. “This kind of conduct does not allow a dead person any peace,” he said. “That’s why after funerals there are deaths or violence in families who do this. The ancestors retaliate.”

Ngwenya said the video would contribute to the chaos being experienced in the country.

President Buhari today reassured Nigerians that he would not let them down in his second term in office.

He said this when he received the leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), who paid him a congratulatory visit at the state house in Abuja.

According to him, he would work harder in the next four years to address the challenges facing the country.

“This is my last lap, I will try to work harder. I assure you, I will not let you down.”

Four children of the same mother were burnt to death at their home in Animal Line by Dore Street, off Mciver Market in Warri, Delta State, on Tuesday night, March 5th.

The children who were between the ages of six months to six years old, were in their house waiting for their mum to finish preparing dinner when an explosion that engulfed their building occurred.

Although the cause of the fire is yet unknown, it is believed that the mother might have been using adulterated kerosene to cook.

The mother of the children sustained serious burns and was rushed to Oghara hospital where she is receiving medical attention.

Chairman of the Warri South Local Government Area, Dr Michael Tidi, who was at the scene of the incident on Wednesday morning, said the remains of the children has been deposited in the morgue.

Some unidentified gunmen have kidnapped a pastor with the ERCC church in Quaapan Local Government Area of Plateau State, identified as Rev. Thomas Ashaku.

It was gathered on Tuesday that the pastor and the church Secretary, Mr. Ezekiel Agwadu were kidnapped during a vigil organised by the church located at Namu community of the Council Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Tyopev Teena, did not pick his phone calls when contacted over the matter but the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Quaapan Council Area, Rev Isaac Tali, confirmed the kidnap of the two clerics to our correspondent in Jos on Tuesday.

According to him, information on the incident which occurred on Friday night did not get to him until Tuesday morning.

Tali said, “I have just been informed of the incident. It was the youth CAN President of Jos North who called me to report the matter and when I made inquiries, I found out that it is true.

“The gunmen were said to have stormed the church and picked the two leaders from among other numerous church members who attended the programme. This is strange and unfortunate that such a thing can be allowed to happen.”

The Zonal Chairman of CAN in the Area said the matter had been reported to the police and that the gunmen who kidnapped the two church leaders had demanded ransom.

A man has taken to social media to celebrate one year anniversary of his survival along with wife after being involved in a horrific motor accident in Abuja.

According to Ifeanyi Charles Nwoko, the accident which happened last year March saw his vehicle badly damaged after being hit by another car which was from the airport.

HOW GOD defeated the devil
Exactly one year ago, on the Night of March 3rd, just by the Churchgate junction, the devil made an attempt on my life and that of my wife. Coming from Wuse, a car coming from the airport rammed into my car from the passenger side where my wife was seated.
Impact:. My tyre came off together with the rim and shocks, my chassis bent, my engine bust open and shifted to the other side along with the gear box. My car spun 3 times and stopped.

I was scared, I looked at my wife and asked if she was okay she said yes. I came down, pulled her out and we went to the other side of the road. I stepped on my engine oil on the ground while I crossed.

When we sat, I was bleeding from the head, my wife was okay just shocked. A good Samaritan took us to the hospital where my head was stitched from two slightly-beyond-minor cuts.
My wife’s hand was slightly bruised and that was all for her, apart from the shock.

God really came through. Two weeks later, wen I tell people that my head was stitched they find it hard to believe cos of how healed the wound was.
Two months later, God blessed us with another car better than the last.

Long story short:. God gave the devil multiple jabs for our sake. He saved my wife Adanna Uwaleme Nwoko and I and we remain eternally grateful to him. PLS help us thank GOD, the one that effectively shields us

A young man was killed by unknown gunmen after he was attacked in Akwa Ibom state.

The deceased identified as Kingsley Cletus Akpan of Ikot Andem Ukwok, Ini local government area, was shot dead by armed thugs in a case allegedly linked to political thuggery in the area due to the election.

According to report, the deceased was a final year Student of the University of Calabar, Cross River state.

The immediate past Commissioner for New Cities Development in Cross River State, Abang Ekpungu, on Sunday night narrowly escaped assassination attempt alongside his wife and children.

Abang-Ekpungu, who spoke with newsmen on Monday, said the incident took place at Sunday midnight in his country home in Kakwagom community in Boki Local Government Area.

“My house was attacked last night. The thugs came in with guns, machetes and other dangerous weapons to my house to kill me.

“There were gunshots inside my house. My car and other valuables were destroyed and we found over 15 pellets in the morning hours.

“I don’t know where this is coming from. I thank God for the safety of my wife and children.

“I want to call on the state Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to move in immediately and investigate this matter because it has been reported,” he said.

He denied having any political rivalry with anyone or malicious quarrel that should warrant such an attack in his home.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the attack in a telephone interview with newsmen.

“The matter has been reported to police station in Boki. It was a malicious damage. There was no injury or loss of lives,” she stated.

A 27-year-old woman, Glory Uchenna, has been remanded in prison custody by a Senior Magistrates’ Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for allegedly stabbing her neighbour to death, according to a report by TheNation.

It was gathered that Uchenna, a housewife and mother of one, allegedly stabbed Imoh Cletus, her neighbour, in the back with a kitchen knife.

A document obtained from the court alleged that the accused stabbed her victim over alleged trespass.
The document reads: “The only problem we had was that anytime she wanted to bath, she must look into our room. I have warned her several times, but she continued doing so.”

She allegedly committed the offence on February 7, about 3:30pm, at Elikpokwudu, Rukpokwu in Obio/Akpor Local Government.

The one-count charge of murder was not read to her; hence she did not take any plea.

She was not represented by any lawyer.
Magistrate Gomba Osaro ordered that she be remanded in prison custody.

She also ordered that her case file be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal Office has arraigned one #Tayo Morawo before Justice E. Nwite of the Federal High Court sitting in Warri, Delta State on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence.

Morawo and Kamilu now at large were said to have fraudulently obtained the sum of N4,811,000 (Four Million, Eight Hundred and Eleven Thousand Naira) from their victim.

The charge reads: “That you, Tayo Marawo and Mr. Kamilu (now at large) between 2016 and 2017 in #Warri Delta State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did conspire with yourselves to commit an offence to wit obtain the aggregate sum of N4,811,000.00 from Ebuwa Emmanuel Ikemefure by false pretences and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 8(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3)of the same Act.”

The defendant pleaded “not guilty” to the charge when it was read to him on Monday, February 25, 2019.

In view of his plea, the prosecuting counsel, Moses Arumemi, asked the court to fix a date for trial and to remand the defendant in prison custody as he needed time to respond to the bail application filed by the defence counsel, E. O. Ajanaku.

Justice E. Nwite, thereafter, adjourned the case to March 18, 2019 for “hearing” and ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison pending the determination of his bail.

Police operatives attached to the Madalla Division in Niger State have arrested two suspects for alleged human trafficking.The two suspects, Blessing Aluna, 23, of the Rimi Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, and one Oludare Jeprince, 36, of Giri Abuja, were apprehended in the Madalla area of Suleja for abducting a three-year-old child.

It was learnt that Aluna, who resides in the Madalla area of Suleja, had at some point allegedly sold her one-week-old baby for N200,000.

It was learnt that she was nabbed for allegedly conniving with Jeprince, who was said to be her boyfriend and accomplice, to kidnap and facilitate the sale of the three-year-old baby.

Northern City News gathered on Sunday that Aluna had in 2017 sold her week-old baby to one Nkechi Udo, of Tungan Maje, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Further checks revealed that Aluna had assisted one Precious Ade of the Gwagwalada area of Abuja to sell her 15-month-old baby for N250,000.
The suspect reportedly received the sum of N50,000 as her share of the proceeds of the crime.
In an interview with punch correspondent, Aluna blamed poverty for her involvement in the crime.

She said,

“Imagine me selling my child for money; that will tell you the level of hardship in the country.
“I sold my own child for N200,000 in order to open a provision store in Suleja at least to take care of myself and my siblings.”

When asked whether she regretted her action, the suspect said, “I have done the worst thing to humanity and especially to my own child. I don’t think I deserve to be alive, let the law take its course.”

Grammy-nominated Atlanta-based rapper 21 Savage, a rising figure in American hip hop whose songs often canvas his upbringing and his life of crime, has been arrested by US immigration officials who said he was actually a British national living illegally in the country.

The rapper, whose real name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, came to the United States from the UK as a teenager in 2005, overstaying his visa to settle in Atlanta, said Bryan Cox, a spokesman for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Mr Cox said Abraham-Joseph, whose album I Am > I Was went to number one on the US Billboard 200 chart after its December release, was in custody in Georgia and faced deportation proceedings in federal immigration courts.

On social media, the news has come as a shock to fans, many of whom have long associated Savage with Atlanta — an epicentre of US hip hop — alongside rappers like Migos, Ludacris and T.I.

While some ridiculed the rapper, posting memes about his Britishness, others in the hip hop community offered support.

A 25-year-old Nigerian man identified as Prince Jerry killed himself in Italy after authorities denied him a residence permit.

Jerry's funeral was held Friday morning, at the Chiesa dell'Annunziata in Genoa. Prince Jerry was a chemistry graduate and was continuing his studies at a University having arrived from Libya on a boat two and a half years ago.

In mid-January his appeal to stay in the country was rejected and he “fell into a deep depression”, according to sources close to Jerry, who was staying in Tortona in Piedmont at the time of his death. Italian authorities have been denying residence permits in their hundreds and have started removing migrants from centres as the government’s hardline immigration measures kick in.

Approved in December, the Salvini decree – named after Matteo Salvini, the interior minister and leader of the far-right League – abolishes humanitarian protection for those not eligible for refugee status.

“After discovering he couldn’t even count on the humanitarian permission that was cancelled by the recent decree, one of our boys took his own life,” said Fr Giacomo Di Martino of the charity Migrantes.

Fr Alex Zanotelli, a member of the Comboni missionaries in Verona, described Jerry’s death as “a state murder, the bitter fruit of the Salvini decree, which besides insecurity produces deaths”.

“Many of the migrants and refugees we treat in our projects have already passed through traumatic experiences in their journey, in many cases with episodes of violence and torture in Libya,” Lilian Pizzi, a psychologist with Médecins Sans Frontières in Rome, told the Guardian.

“When they arrive in Europe they are often retraumatised by arbitrary policies that reduce their rights and by an atmosphere of hate and racism amplified by the media. And all this exacerbates a sense of powerlessness and exclusion.”

Moments ago, the Court of Appeal in Abuja declared former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke as the authentic presidential flag-bearer of the Social Democratic Party, SDP.

The appellate court, in a unanimous judgement by a three-man panel of Justices, vacated a judgement of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, which had on December 14, 2018, voided the emergence of Duke as SDP’s candidate for the 2019 Presidential Election.

The High Court had maintained that Duke’s emergence was in violation of a zoning arrangement the party adopted with a view to ensuring that a President and National Chairman of the party do not emerge from the same Geopolitical Zone.

Consequently, the lower court voided all the votes that were ascribed to Duke who was declared winner of the primary election, on the premise that he is from the Southern part of the country as the incumbent National Chairman of the party. It declared Prof. Jerry Gana who came second at the primary contest, being the only candidate from the Northern part of the country with the highest valid votes cast.

However, in its judgement, the appellate court held that the high court judgment was “perverse and wrong”. It held that the lower court’s verdict was a violation of Duke’s right to freedom from discrimination, adding that Gana was bound by an undertaken he signed to support any candidate that emerged from the presidential primary contest.

The appellate court described the purported zoning formula as “a mere political arrangement” to help SDP to win elections, saying it had nothing to do with the qualification of a candidate. It held that Gana’s complaint was not that there was any violation of the Electoral Act, but that Duke who is from the Southern part, was not qualified to contest the presidential election. “Such a complaint does not disclose a cause of action”, Justice Abdul Aboki who read the lead judgement held.

The appellate court resolved all the issues against Gana and ordered him to pay N500, 000.00 cost to all the five Appellants in the matter.
