I dont know how it is organized but there are 4 stands there. The empty stand is not a PDP stand. It is for another party. I think they will debate in batches. Lets watch and see.

The election will be free and fair by everybody's effort. If CPC members in the different areas do not sell their own conscience, how will rigging work? We all need to take ownership of the process. What we do not like is the fact that he always wants to disconnect himself from the whole thing. Everybody is looking for ways to improve the process. People are ready to go there with cameras and phones for proper monitoring, while he sits there expecting the worst.

Anyway, the fact that he made the statement in Benin Cty where he could only gather a little crowd (less than what a local government councillor will gather), is an indication of his fears. The defeat in the SS dawned on him seriously thus the statement. As Beaf said, Gov. Oshiomhole displayed far more maturity. Think of it will Fashola or Oshiomhole ever say anything like "If I lose election in my state, blame the government"?

He has seen the handwriting on the wall. He has to find an excuse ahead of his defeat. Not to worry, this is the last time anyone will take him serious.

To a thief, everyone is a thief. I know very many Nigerians who are very rich and earn their money honourably. Many Nigerians who are not corrupt. Many who pay their taxes to the last kobo. These Nigerians I am talking about are not just the ones you find in UK or US. Right here in Nigeria, there are many like that. I do not expect anyone to assume that everybody steals money.

@ Gbawe, thank God people like you are on nairaland! Can you imagine people want to sweep Swiss bank records under the carpet just because they want to protect their supposed 'superhero'. God help us. Are these the standards Buhari intends to run his anti-corruption campaign on? We need to think again. Is there truly hope in the past or does hope rest in the future? Do we really want to return to our Egypt?

The Questions:

1. Who is the referee?
2. Who is the coach?
3. Who is the home team?
4. Who is the away team?

This is a hypothetical story of a football match between two teams that sends a message about today's Nigerian Political scene. Enjoy

SHORT STORY:
In a football match between two teams, the referee was so annoyed that nobody had scored a goal in the first 45 minutes of the match. The referee got very angry and teamed up with the coach of the away team. They decided to go into the pitch to score a goal against both sides in order to teach them a lesson on how to score a goal!

The coach was a footballer in his early days but he had grown tired and weary. The referee had never played football all his life but was very good at blowing the whistle. They both wore their new jerseys and the referee dropped his whistle. Off they went into the pitch with nobody left to blow the whistle or to encourage the away team.

The home team was very aggressive. The away team was trying really hard to score and doing all they could. The referee and the coach were trying on their own to score against both sides! Everyone became tensed up. The away team's effort was getting frustrated by the interference of the referee and coach.

A few minutes to the end of the game, the referee was brutally injured by one of the footballers. Alas, there was nobody to blow the whistle! The home team kept playing aggressively while the injured referee kept shouting but no one listened. The coach being old and experienced knew he had to run away after much agression from the players. The home team became more aggressive and eventually scored several goals against the away team and won the match. Some of the spectators were not happy, however, they had no choice but to wait for the next four years when the teams will meet again.

What would they have done better?

The referee should have stuck with his job and be ready to blow the whistle when there was a foul.
The old coach should have given his support to his hardworking team.
They would have been able to increase the chances of the away team's win against the home team that was playing aggressively.
The impatience and greed of the referee and coach contributed to the hardworking team's loss.
The referee and coach both left the pitch with injuries.

If we are to remove sentiments,

A quick test, just go to wikipedia and type in the names of the candidates of the top 3 parties. If you are a neutral person, who will know who to choose. Look out for their education, achievement and reputation.

1. Nuhu Ribadu + Fola Adeola
2. Goodluck Jonathan + Sambo Namadi
3. Buhari Mohammadu + Tunde Bakare

Only two teams here will qualify AND one will stand out above all. I will leave you to judge which two teams really qualify for this job.

I believe Buhari and Bakare are to be respected. But just like in football, they will be better as coach and referee but not as footballers. Imagine if these two were supporting people like Ribadu and Okonjo-Iweala under the platform of ACN. That would have been the greatest team for 2011. I myself would have supported them wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, that is not the case. 2011 is a done deal and opposition needs to get it right next time.

mithel, Fashola is my dream president, But we all know that tribalism will not give him the chance in 2015. He will keep playing an important role in the near future and his time will come. Maybe not as president but as someone very important in Nigeria. ACN is also my most respected party. That is one thing we need to understand about politics in Nigeria. It is a different ball game. Many will not agree but I will say it; PDP has to make this choice for the stability of Nigeria. We should hope and pray that it works out. The Niger Delta is a very important part of Nigeria. Giving them this chance puts PDP ahead of other parties. That the party can use its strength to support a candidate percieved to come from the "minority" is a good sign.

My prayer for every Nigerian; whether PDP, ACN, ANPP, CPC, etc is simple: May God grant all of us a good and forward thinking government. May he protect us from the greed of wicked and unreasonable politicians. May we be spared from violence in the election period. May Nigeria come out stronger and better after the elections. May we rise to become a wonder. May our children look back and thank God for 2011. This I believe is the prayer of everyone who means well for Nigeria (North, South, East and West). If you believe in our future say Amen!

We need leaders and not rulers in Nigeria. He will fare better as a traditional or religious RULER. He needs to realize that what we need from his type is not for him to be in front but behind, encouraging the younger ones.

Waiting for the question to be answered. What has Buhari contributed to democracy. His age mates like Wole Soyinka have been actively involved and we have all seen his efforts. Even Ciroma and IBB are miles ahead of him. He has been dormant for 25 years. He has been a sink -adding no value to the country. How did he support his ANPP governors to achieve something with the opportunity given him by Nigerians? He needs to go and learn from OBJ and even the younger ones like Tinubu who have been doing their own part in shaping Nigeria and not whining like an old man with a broken tooth. We are waiting. Tell us just 1 thing he has added to Nigeria since democracy started.

@ emeka, you made some very strong points there. I support Ribadu but am not happy his VP candidate didn't show up for the debate. I thought they will tow the more honorable path by putting aside their pride for the good of the process. At the end of the day, PDP gained free publicity and their plans will be all people can remember.

Are you sure you do not want to reconsider this statement! Anyway you cannot deny that we have recorded tremendous improvement in our telecom and banking sectors. You know the details. If you do not close your eyes, you will find countless things that PDP has done since they got into power. We know they have not solved all the problems and they have also made huge mistakes. But now, show me just one (1) thing that CPC has done either in form of Buhari, or in form of ANPP (which was Buhari's party for years).

I am not a PDP supporter but I will not close my eyes to fact just because I support another party.

Why will CPC not stick to issues rather than attribute all the problems caused by the likes of Buhari himself to PDP. Democracy has started cleaning up the mess they made and we still have a long way to go. It takes a lot more effort to build what has been destroyed. Is CPC saying it can solve the problems overnight? Is Buhari himself not among the leaders of the country? Has he not been serving one way or the other since he left power?

Lagos remains one of the best states today but we still have challenges. There are still bad roads, serious strikes, insecurity and all the problems in Nigeria. CPC will do well to stick to issues and stop criticizing. Is that their agenda for Nigeria? To look at the last 12 years and then what? CPC should learn from ACN. ACN is busy showing the good work they have done while CPC is busy drawing emotions. Emotions that will fade away once reality hits.

People are not silly. They can see clearly what ACN is doing. CPC should show working and stop whining. Even PDP has done a billion times more than CPC. Face it.

Aletheia, pls don't be distracted by all the noise around. Let's refine our model and trade findings. The tribune article tells you which parties are on ground and that is the information we need. Whatever their opinion is about the candidates, we can decide to take it or leave it. With the article, I have been able to find some states where some parties do not even exist! That is the value I want us to get from it.

I would like to compare our model with the final election result at the end of the day and see whether or not we have done a good job. Carry on.

Some posters on this thread have made people assume that they just refused to air the jingle unreasonably. Some other posters suggested the jingle may have flouted some regulations set by the regulatory body (Not by NTA). The latter seems to be more correct. People were already castigating PDP for that when it may have been CPC's own fault! Why should we blame PDP for CPC's failure to adhere to the regulations? It is not bad for me to point out the current position of things so that people can get a balanced view of the whole situation.

As I said earlier, these polls represent the views of a few people and you cannot really depend on them. They are also dynamic, meaning the longer the poll lasts and the more the voters, the better the picture.

Some people are real crude haters and masters in this ''pull him down syndrome''. No matter what man says or does he will always be man and not God. I'll vote for the only one annoited amongst them all, I'll vote for my humble and listening President Goodluck Ebere Azikiwe Jonathan.

I agree with the part in bold font, people have closed their eyes to the truth because of the high level of bias. Some have become so depressed hence the denial. Let us be open minded enough to commend something good when we see it.
