PoliticsRe: 4 Years Of Goodluck Will Lead To 8 Years For Pdp North -- Pdp Zoning Still Lives by efisher(m): 2:53am On Apr 02, 2011
Also, are you, the OP, saying that Buhari will step down for an Igbo in 2015 or beyond? Are we that much of royalty for people to step down for us just because we are Igbos? Where did you get this logic from?
Valid point you have made there. The issue of zoning crumbles when other parties come into the picture. With the way politics is structured in Nigeria, zoning can only be discussed at the party levels. It can not be reliably used as a tool to score political points against opposing parties.

Nice one danjohn,

I have always known you as a reasonable fellow. Sometimes we may anchor deep to make a point but the truth remains unchanged.
Buhari has got his fair share of victory and failures just like every man on earth. As you rightly pointed out, he has actually helped strengthen our democracy by his efforts. Even if he did not win the elections in 2003 or 2007, he definitely deserves some credit for participating as a strong opposition. In the end what matters is that we as a nation move forward, progress and take our rightful position in the scheme of things.

@ recoome please do not wish anyone the failures and disappointments that have plagued Buhari's life. Niether should we wish anyone the great destruction that lies in wait ahead of CPC in the coming elections.

This is our prayer for every Nigerian PDP, CPC, ANPP, ACN, etc supporters included:

"May your life be filled with blessings. May you not be judged by where you come from but by the content of your heart. May you achieve astonishing growth and success in life. May you stand among kings and be recognised. May your life be protected from electoral violence. May the greed of desperate politicians not cause you to stumble. May you contribute to the growth and development of Nigeria. May you and your children enjoy the benefits of good governance. Amen"

Fluorish my good friend. There is a japanese proverb that says "You can't see the whole sky through a bamboo tube".

This is not just an issue of stopping imports. It is a matter of wrong economic policies that worked against the survival of citizens. A full person does not understand the needs of the hungry. The man sat in his office with more than enough loaves of bread while he took away the little slice of bread that was on the table of the poor citizens. He didnt even give them corn in place of it. Is it fair to take away the rags of a madman if you have no clothes to replace them with?

We shouldn't even debate whether or not he did the right thing and there is no point trying to defend him. These things are engraved in history for us to learn. The effect was negative and he refused to be sensitive enough to feel the needs of the people. That was the essence of the post.

Vote for a candidate that can feel your pains and can connect with you. The world has since moved on.

On the contrary, Obasanjo gave us a good shot at democracy and it was Buhari that destroyed his efforts. Read the history books.

This is from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olusegun_Obasanjo

Obasanjo pledged to continue the programme for the restoration of civilian government in 1979 and to carry forward the reform programme to improve the quality of public service.

The second republican constitution, which was adopted in 1979, was modelled on the Constitution of the United States, with provision for a President, Senate, and House of Representatives. The country was now ready for local elections, to be followed by national elections, that would return Nigeria to civilian rule.

@ Fhemmmy, to be very frank with you, I appreciate your person and I know you to be an illustrous Nigerian.

Step back for one minute and think about it. Buhari is 69 years old and has served as a military ruler of this nation already. He reminds us of the bitter past. Daily, as we dig up these facts from our history, it leaves a bad taste in our mouths. Every credible Nigerian who lived (and was aware enough) in the time of Buhari knows that he is not cut for a job as this. It is widely accepted that he tried to instill discipline but it is also clear that he has no handle of modern day governance. He has also lost touch with what is left of the 80's.

Let me use an analogy you may like.

Peugeot 504 was Nigeria's most reliable car in the 80's. Fact. But does the same apply today? Should we because of the imperfections of Toyota Camry go back to 504? NO WAY! The 504 has a manual transmission gear system, no airbags, no navigation system, no power steering. You know the rest. If you drive a Toyota Camry the way you drive a 504, you will veer off the road. It takes a new mindset to steer the nation in the way it should go. Our democracy is too tender to be left in the hands of a man like Buhari.

During his regime he introduced austere policies that worked against the common man. The koboko was his constutution. Health, Education and the economy were in shambles. In order to frustrate some citizens, he banned the importation of certain essential goods and at the same time did not provide alternatives. You know where I am going  wink Check the history records.

This is from BBC website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-12890807
However, his attempts to rebalance public finances by curbing imports led to the closure of businesses and many job losses. Prices rose, while living standards fell, leading to a palace coup by Gen Ibrahim Babangida on 27 August 1985. Mr Buhari was imprisoned for 40 months.
My brother, there is a parable that says: You cannot teach an old dog new tricks. Surely, nobody is a dog, but the essence of the parable is to show that human nature is difficult to change. It gets even more difficult with age. Why do you think many of our grand parents cannot leave their chewing stick? For any reason you have to vote for him, you will find more in other candidates if you look carefully.

PoliticsRe: Govt To Restrict Gsm Calls & Text Messages On Election Days As Security Measure by efisher(m): 11:58pm On Apr 01, 2011
soldee:
Political parties and individuals hoping to use telephone text messages to check electoral malpractices or relate on other election matters may be in for a shock as strong indications emerged on Thursday that the services of GSM operators might be restricted on election days (April 2, 9 and 16).

Our correspondent learnt that it was the thinking of the Federal Government that mobile telephone calls and text messages on the general elections should be restricted during the polls.
This claim was refuted on the NTA Network News of April 1, 2011.

Thank you for your post.

Ribadu and GEJ will make much better Presidents than Buhari. Spread this message to everyone: Nigeria must move forward and not backward.

PoliticsRe: Jonathan's Three Noble Actions by efisher(m): 3:19pm On Apr 01, 2011
This article contains some of the reasons why I decided to vote for GEJ. Every Nigerian agrees PDP has not given us their best. But I had to stop and think for a while and I discovered that PDP is at the brink of a breakthrough. It is unfortunate that some people have lost faith because of the difficulties they face. This may also be the reason why they cannot see the signs of new things.

GEJ has a very strong team manning various aspects of the government. I watched Deziani Madueke on NTA and I was surprised to hear all the things happening underground. I even got more inspiration when I watched Sanusi on BBC talking about how the government is out to crush the "cabal" standing in the way of the development of our power sector. One of the things that changed the game for me was my own personal experience. I work on certain projects that have to do with power generation and I couldn't believe the amount of efforts that have gone into getting Nigerians from darkness to light! When the projects hit the grid, we will be astonished at the rate things will grow. The start may be very difficult but when we get it right, we are set for wonders.

GEJ is one of the very few leaders on earth who has actually made  a serious effort to connect with Nigerians. The facebook idea may seem like nothing to many people, but it is a giant leap in the right direction.

Thank God for GEJ.
PoliticsRe: Government Says It Intends To Increase Power Generation To 13,500mw By 2013 by efisher(m): 3:04pm On Apr 01, 2011
This time it's for real. I have some priviledged information about one of the power plants coming on stream and I am sure we can achieve it. The only challenge I can see right now is our transmission and distribution network. We already have lots of power generation projects at advanced stages. I hope the super grid project gets a boost after the election. Nigerians want power so they can breathe FRESH AIR!
