How can people be so naive? Does anybody expect that a president of Nigeria will not dine with the likes of IBB? We have too many jokers that have no clue about politics. Muammar Gaddafi once wined and dined with the west, today he is under fire from the west!

Many people are hoping people like Ribadu and Buhari will come into power and put everybody in jail. What a huge joke. Anybody that can reason properly will not vote because they think somebody can kill corruption, or is a superhero that will erase every corrupt person in the country. You vote because a man has capacity to deliver. Look at the plans the man has for Power, Education, etc. Not how many probes he wants to conduct. This is where Buhari fails woefullly. He has lacks vision and capacity. Ribadu has vision and capacity to deliver. GEJ even has more plans than Buhari.

We need to wake up from this emotionally induced dream we have found ourselves in. Damn!

1. A bank run by a World renowned LAWYER ably assisted by a succesful BANKER (Who established one of the most succesful banks in Nigeria today amongst many other things).

2. A bank run by a LECTURER with PhD in Zoology ably assisted by an ARCHITECT (with years of experience serving in ministry of works and housing)

3. A bank run by an EX MILITATRY GENERAL ably assisted by a PASTOR of a church in Lagos (who also has been an activist)

I will definitely go for No. 1, maybe 2 (if I want to take some risk or if there were no other option) but I will only consider 3 if I did not know the meaning of BANK!

Good road map. This is the best effort I have seen so far at solving the power problem. News I am hearing suggests the Government is really putting a lot into it. My guess is that it we are at the difficult kick-off stage but when the policies are fully implemented, a rapid turn-around will be seen similar to what happened in the telecom sector.

I pray it works out. It's about that time!

Word of advice: Do not underestimate PDP.

Even if nobody from the north registers support for PDP on this thread, PDP remains the strongest party in the whole of Northern Nigeria.

When you hear names like this in a party like CPC, the scales of false hope will begin to fall off. The acclaimed superhero of anti-corruption boldly declared that the most notorious military dictator never stole any money. We all know the stories. Some of us know this man in question personally. The question then comes again: IS THERE REALLY HOPE IN THE PAST, OR IS HOPE IN OUR FUTURE. Do not be deceived. Once beaten, twice shy.

Brabus, you are right. Imagine what would have happened if Buhari fought behind Ribadu? If he had dropped his ambition to support someone who has a brighter future. He would have pointed the way for all to see. But every man thinks of his own belly first even those who are not hungry!

Bolded is contradictory. If he has most of the masses then victory is sure as their number far exceeds that of the elite.

Let me try to explain clearly. Northern voters far out-number southern voters. However, you need at least 25% in at least 2/3 of all the states. The masses following Buhari are concentrated in certain parts of the North. The elite factor is important because unfortunately, the masses are easily swayed and can be made to do as the elites please! That is the top-down approach of the PDP. There are so many other things happening on ground and it is not as simple as it seems on the news and on the internet. It is a fierce battle but PDP has "certain" advantages against the opposition. Just watch out for news from now till the elections and you will see why they say politics is a dirty game.

He makes some sense. This election will be won and lost in the North. Not even the south west any more. PDP has infilterated the ranks of the elite and are using a top-down approach to achieve their victory. Buhari is using a bottom - up approach. Buhari has most of masses but not the spread. The only thing wrong with the statement is that PDP doesn't need to rig to make this happen! Buhari's own camp has been infilterated by these veteran politicians. Just the way Atiku lost the PDP primaries.

Buhari himself should be a "godfather" but not in the sense that we know it. His type need to point the way ahead for others to see. He doesn't need to be president, he can support people like Ribadu that have a bright future and a vision for the country. Why should it be the other way round?

I AGREE. YOU MADE AN EFFORT TO BE OBJECTIVE.

I only want to add the following few good things about each person, I will also try to be objective:

1. BB: Has been able to connect with the masses and he will give a tough time to some corrupt politicians. He has been able to put hope in the hearts of many Nigerians (whether it is just emotional or not). He has been able to make people look up to him. He was disciplined back in the 80's. Something a lot of Nigerians lack today. (I sincerely do not know more about him than these. If anyone can come up with a list of his achievements, it will be nice for us to see)

2. GEJ: Really looks like he is dull but if you look beyond the "face value", you may see a genuine democrat. A civilian learning at the deep end of the sea but learning fast. Has he really achieved NOTHING so far? To be fair, I do not think so. He has done a good job with fuel availability. He has been known to respond to the calls of the masses. Look at the facebook initiative. The revival of the train system, the efforts at implementing PIB, power sector reforms etc. The petrochemical plant efforts. The rigorous fight against unemployment. The introduction of 6 new federal universities.

3, Ribadu: Ribadu has shown his passion. He has shown that he values the youth. He fought corruption actively in a democratic dispensation. Under Ribadu's administration, the EFCC charged prominent bankers, former as well as serving State governors, ministers, Senate presidents, high-ranking political party members, commissioners of Police, and advance fee fraud ("419" gang operators. The EFCC issued thousands of indictments and achieved about 270 convictions. One notable case was that of his boss, the then Inspector-General of the Nigerian Police Force, Mr Tafa Balogun, who was convicted, jailed and made to return £150 million under a plea bargain.
Ribadu’s achievements in the EFCC included the de-listing of Nigeria from the FATF List of Non-Cooperative Countries & Territories, admission into the prestigious Egmont Group and the withdrawal of the US Treasury FINCEN Advisory on Nigeria. They helped make the EFCC the foremost Anti-Corruption Enforcement Agency on the continent, cementing Ribadu's reputation in the world as a respected anti-corruption crusader.He has shown his desire to be a great leader by studying to improve himself

^ Good point you inspired in me there. Which other party can we think of that would have painted Ribadu in better light than ACN. Every party has these people we percieve to be corrupt. Buhari's party is not free either. He has an Abacha running under his platform. I do not know the key sponsors but if I am to compare party values, I will put ACN far ahead because ACN is a party of technocrats and well educated individuals many of who have global exposure.

The only party with hard evidence to show for capacity and good performance. ACN is the only party in Nigeria today that has people who will promise something and people will believe that they can perform. They are the true voice of hope. They have shown that they can manage the country effectively and restore pride. they have shown that they have guts. Ribadu will have no choice but to perform if he gets in there. Look at their campaign strategy. They have employed the most modern methods, Not just by crude sentimental crowd gathering. Birds of the same feather flock together. That is one reason they did not jeopardize their party's standards by joining forces with CPC.

The irony is that those same almajiris will be used against him in the forth coming elections! Lots of people are in for a shocker after the election.

In democracy, superheroes cannot "beat-away" corruption. It takes a structured and rigorous legal process led by thinkers and performers to CURB it.

The part in bold font here is what Nigerian intellectuals have tried to look at very closely.
Buhari was a disciplinarian. Everybody agrees! But the argument is that this is democracy. Does he have the methods needed in today's political scenario to fight corruption effectively. Do we think "whip-lashing" will stop the militants in Niger Delta from stealing crude? Will IBB suddenly become a saint? Or will new ways of doing crime simply crop up. Are we going to have four years of long drawn court cases and political score-settling? Will students stop cheating in exams or will they find innovative ways to perform exam malpractice? How will he handle the senate, the house of assembly, the governors, etc. How will we measure his success in fighting corruption? Does he still have the strength and tact as he had 25 years ago? Can he "play ball" with those boxers in the house of assembly? Will he support the "wasteful" amnesty program? How will he deal with those fomenting trouble in Jos? CAN HE HANDLE ALL THESE PRESSURES PUT TOGETHER? Has he given us a plan for all these?

How about the part we can see? How about the stable electric power and good education Nigerians are asking for. He has told us already that he will concentrate on probes before making further investments! What is the repercussion of that? More poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and what will be the result of that. FRUSTRATION! When you have frustration what do we think will be the result? Civil unrest, strikes, etc. Will he listen to protesters calling for increased minimum wage? Or will he brand them as lazy? What will happen to all the projects being set up by the current government? Can he manage them? If ACN takes over from PDP I am guaranteed that they can build on and consolidate the little gains of the PDP government. But can same be said about CPC?

Think about what Nigeria might be 2 years into a BB regime after emotions have worn out. Do we think Nigerians will be satisfied with his standards in corruption? Will he be seen as partial in his dealings? I will end with this statement which I think best describes my perception of Buhari:

AS MARADONA IS TO TODAY’S FOOTBALL, SO BUHARI IS TO TODAY’S NIGERIA.
