Thank you careytommy. was getting tired of the back and forth arguments. |
mundus:Please what truth o |
Do people still take this thing seriously. The world going to end on this day or that day. The day comes and goes and it hasnt ended. Wasnt it sup to end 11 when people started storing up food and selling their possessions? People need to start reading their bibles not relying on people to tell them when Judgment day will be. "For you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night." 1 Thes 5:2 "36No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,f but only the Father. 37As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. 42“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him." Matthew 24:36-44 |
I think we should pics to go along with these names 'cause there is no point in mentioning the different names but we dont know what you are talking about (at least for those of us who dont know the numerous names given to the meat types) |
dayokanu:I did that once but I dont think its a good idea. I mean plus its not accepted in Yoruba culture. When I went home, the elderly women were looking at me funny and when I sent my mom my pics, She totally freaked! I mean a woman shaving her hair has a lot of -ve connotations. Its stress-free but the easier way out is not always the best. |
2buff:hahahahaahhhahahah I swear I couldnt help but laugh! you crack me up! SMH. I have no comments for you. Cant be bothered really. |
Pst Grant:Why must a special committee be set up? What happened to the Nigerian Police Force? Everything in Nigeria is committee. then they will set up another committee to oversee the first committee. Committee this, committee that. anyway, Im still giving them the benefit of a doubt. Lets see what they can come up with. And did you say innocent man? HA! I laugh! I dont think I need to even argue that he is not. It is clear that his hands are def not clean! If only he would put his foot down and do something and not let some ignorant greedy people control him. By no means am I condoning the violence. Heck no! Im totally against it but my point is I am not in support of GEJ's move. Its not always about money. The money will finish then what? We like to address issues on the surface in Nigeria but we do not seek for structural/institutional reformation. |
Crude Oil:Right! I checked out his pic and some video that someone put up and I sure as hell would never want to kiss him (uurrggh!!! *shivers*) @Poster, youve been in America for how many years now and all of a sudden you think you are all that. Before you left, did you ever floss? or brush your teeth twice daily? On top say you go yankee, you come dey form. Abeg! how many yankee babes sef dey floss? How many of the ones you have kissed actually floss? They maybe lied to you. you cant be too sure. Please dont start acting like some bigger boy on top say u dey yankee. Its ok to introduce flossing and wat not to ur babe but not wth that kind of attitude. Its not like you knew what flossing was 'fore you left NG. |
queensmith:I totally agree with you. Its very sad. We seem to have this inferiority problem. We never think we are good enough and so have to be like the white man. I swear we are still under colonialism. Colo mentality as Fela will put it. We follow the whiteman like he is God. why cant we just take pride in who we are but no, the whiteman's way are the best. We dont have to conform to everything. We are slowing losing ourselves. as per the hair thing, I have natural hair and I have to say that it is very hard to maintain it esp not being in NG. However, I dont see a need to use weaves for anything at all. God created every person with their own hair. why the heck would I pay money for someone else's hair. Shows how worthless I think I am. very sad. plus Nigerian women over do this weave thing. They always find of way of taking things to the next level. smh |
I dont think that paying bride price should stop just because some men think that they are buying their wives. It is the mentality of these men that needs to change. Maybe they need to be more educated on this aspect of their culture. I guess society is lacking in preserving our culture and teaching it properly to the younger generations. I definitely want my husband to pay my bride price not that he is buying me in the literal sense of it. Its more like giving the girls parents a token of appreciation for taking care of her until that point where he takes her away from him. |
ahahahahahahahahhahah I cant stop laughing!!!! tpia@ totally cracks me up! But seriously at poster, if your husband is against tattoos, then why are you still going ahead to get one?? This might just be asking for trouble from your husband. It might be your body but then dont forget he is still the head and i mean he kinda owns your body if you know what I mean?. But that is up to you to decide sha. Its between you and your man. but really talk about it with him first because he might not be as excited as you when you show up at home with a tat on your shoulder. Im not sure what you mean by birds seem to be an important symbol in ancient yoruba culture. Ive never heard of them. Fellow NLders, pls enlighten me if there is something about my culture that I do not know. |
xremmy:I dont mean to sound harsh but, those who were affected by the violence will be guaranteed immediate employment upon completion of service? So they are the only ones who deserve employment? and the thousands of others who were not injured yet risk their lives everyday to serve their country? Maybe they should have also been part of the violence so that they can also benefit from this employment and be FORTUNATE/LUCKY. I am seriously not moved by this. We need to look at the bigger picture. How about addressing the issue of unemployment?? where will you even give these victims automatic employment?? which office?? Those responsible will be brought to justice? we are yet to determine these people o. Na so so promise em always promise. Everybody wey die, " the culprits will be brought to justice". It's been how long now since they been singing this song? I have worries that the whole issue will soon be put aside. Im waiting to see the true culprits (not the one that the police will falsely arrest) being brought to book. |
What about those that have been killed as a result of accidents (bad roads) while serving their country? or armed robbery attacks on the highway? or kidnappings? and the other innocent victims that have lost their lives as a result of instability, lack of security and infrastructure? Those who died in Jos?? Will those families also be compensated?? or they are not heroes because they did not die in the election violence? Weren't they also serving their country when they died? The issue is not the compensation. It's about the program. It needs to be fixed, readjusted, updated, reviewed. It needs to change. N5m? smh. I would rather hear that the government is working on adjusting the program and improving the infrastructure. We need permanent change. What makes us so sure that 3months from now, a crisis wont arise elsewhere that will result in the death of corpers? |
dayokanu:Hahahahahhahha dayokanu, Im not married o. |
I dont think girls are under pressure. I would say that they are only "over protected" and "restricted". I put these in quotation marks because at the end of the day, we realize that this over protectiveness and restriction was actually a good thing. Especially today when society is something else. I do not blame parents for guarding their daughters. Why shouldnt they? I think women are trying to do too much. All this talk about "we need to exercise our right". What right? Why are we trying to prove that we are equal to men or better than men? You play the "what a man can do, a woman can do (even better)" card. when trouble comes now, it's back to the "I'm a woman". smh I think it's about time we embraced our roles as women, see and appreciate our worth. Until we realize our value, we will continue to live under the mentality that we are being oppressed and suppressed. *not to say that women should be foolish and allow themselves to be abused. Knowing your value will determine whether or not you will be abused. We need to be real women not the Miss Independent feminist crap society is breeding nowadays. That stuff doesnt take us anywhere. |
Alj Uche:I think this question is highly irrelevant. That is not the issue. Its about who can do the job not about power sharing. |
oladcity:I agree. I wonder why he is not on the fore front of these campaigns |
I think Buhari just has a problem with articulation. |
I respect Buhari tho. He is responding quite well but he does not have clear cut responses on how to solve a lot of these issues. Shekaru is good but then he is not a major candidate which is sad. It would have been nice to see him campaign. |
Do Nigerians understand what these frats are intended for? If it has no meaning to them or it does not fit into our culture then it's not needed. Wole Soyinka and the others might have had good intentions but how many people share those intentions/values/sentiments? I think the benefits of this action and the consequences should be heavily weighed. Frats are good but are they good in Nigeria. We have to be realistic. Are they what we need at this point? Will that improve the education that nigerians are getting? Priorities first! |
@ Poster: How functional are fraternities and soros in the states today? Havent they lost their true meaning and initial foundational values? If they are not functional in the US anymore (and by this I mean actually what they were intended to do), how then can it work in Nigeria where there is a huge difference in society and culture? I see no reason to revive this frat/soro thing in NG unless it is adjusted to fit our society and culture which I see to be unnecessary. I say this because, even the Nigerians that do study in the US, very few of them participate in Greek Life what more those who are in Nigeria. If we dont understand how something works, its best not to use it or implement it cos it will lose it true meaning and become a nuisance to society. I dont think we have reached the level of incorporating greek life in our university education yet. (at least not the greek life of today) |
I typing this from my Yoruba Bible and unfortunately, I cant put all the accents on, cos i dont know how to but i will do the best that I can: Matteu 6:9-13 Baba wa ti mbe li orun; Ki a bòwo fun oruko re Ki Ijobe re de; Ife tire ni ki a se, bi ti orun beni li aiye Fun wa li onje ojo wa loni Dari gbese wa ji wa, bi awa ti ndariji awon onogbese wa Má si fi wa sinu idewò, sugbon gbà wa lowo bilisi Nitori ijoba ni tire ati agbara ati ogo lailai Amin |
