Pls read your bible in peace and do to it as you wish. Your christian life is between you and God. No one can and should tell you if highlighting in your bible is right or wrong. These are the little things that Paul asks us to avoid - unnecessary debates. This topic doesn't add any value whatsoever. 2 Tim 2:23 |

Ilekeh: I love how the Yoruba woman is not kissing Chinese azz like Nigerians do in Nigeria.
That's why Chinese feel like they can come to our country and treat Nigerians like slaves. I wonder what would happen to that Chinese man if he dares to slap her, like they slap their Nigerian workers. Na hospital straight!!!
I'm sure you're the type that'd answer"Yes, sir" to the Chinese man if you were in her shoes. Don't mind him. See him sounding as if the guy too wasn't getting aggressive. |

Culture › Re: Why Are Yoruba's Obsessed With Greeting? by Egbagirl(f): 8:53pm On May 15, 2015 |
This is why conflicts arise. We need to learn to appreciate and respect other cultures. I appreciated the Yoruba culture more living in Senegal. In Senegal, you greet everyone whether or not you know them. The level of greeting now depends on how well you know them. If you're walking past a store or a woman selling Beignets (puff puff) by the road side (especially someone you walk past everyday), you greet her. It doesn't have to be long. It can be a smile, a nod, a "ca va", a wave, "Nanga def". If you know the person well, you stop and do a 1 min exchange.
Yes, we can all get caught up with whatever we're going through but if someone says, "ah ah you can't even greet", the simplest thing to do is just apologize and say you were lost in your thoughts and keep it moving!
This is how societies are maintained. This is how you build and maintain communities. You interact with people, you form relationships. We need to get over this "individualism" that's taking over our societies. Interact with people, greet them, smile, wave, do something.
Yoruba people know the importance of greeting. It's a form of holding the community together as well. We have greetings for everything you can think of. Even just sitting down, we say, "e ku ijoko". When you're eating and someone walks in or sits at your table, you tell the person, "e wa jeun o" and the person replies, " ese" or "a gba ibi re".
The OP and others that are vexing over this greeting thing need to stop seeing at as a chore. Instead, see it as forming relationships with people within your community. |

I think that we both need to research a bit more. Thanks for being so civil in your approach. Don't rely on electronic dictionaries. The word is not pronounced 'sakit' but as the other poster indicated. Check a standard dictionary or even Google. |

ifyalways: I'm a mother, I live in Nigeria and I blame the parents especially the mother of those kids, 190%.
Who hires maid NOW, without getting, meeting and cross checking references? How could they be that desperate and I dare say stooopid?
Even with confirmed references, the standard practice after hiring a new maid is to leave FIRM instructions with your security guys that UNDER no condition should the maid step out with the kids without your consent. Same instruction is passed on to the driver. The maid and driver does school runs TOGETHER at least for 4 months.
I simply pray those kids are returned home safely but darn, some of us parents need to set our priorities right. Family first! What if they don't have driver or security Why especially the mother? Why not both parents? How do they even trust their security or driver? |

This is the problem with society and with many Nigerians. I do not know Buhari's bank account balance but even if it was 50 million dollars and he chooses to live in this same house, that is HIS choice and business. He is not obliged to spend his money the way we think he should. Everyone has things they would rather do or buy with their money. For all we know, he uses his money to send his community kids to school and provide for others in his community or extended family. We do not know and we cannot draw conclusions.
As long as he is comfortable and happy, it doesn't matter what car he drives, how many houses he owns, how big they are etc. To each his own. |

Politics › Re: Jonathan Doesn’t Deserve North’s Votes After Wife Abused Northerners – Mrs Buhar by Egbagirl(f): 8:21pm On Mar 23, 2015 |
k4kings: The "word" change is now a very popular word in the mouth of many people, and sincerely speaking, I love change. But my question is, does the APC as a party really understand the true meaning of the "word" change? Americans preached change and presented Obama (as the first black to ever rule America). What has the APC brought to us? Fashola, Adams, Rochas, Ameachi would have made more meaning to us, not Buhari. GEJ is certainly not the best as we all know that there is no perfect human being on earth, but Buhari is not an option, because he does not have the capacity to change anything. The world we live can only be made better with "brain" and "Biro" not with bullet and gun which is what Buhari presents. Buhari is not just uneducated, but he also does not have interest in education. I say this with dew respect to him and his age. Buhari left office over thirty years ago, yet in his spare time, he never did anything to improve himself educationally. Even OBJ after ruling for eight years still went and improved himself. Nigerian Youths, pls THINK!!! I say whatever I say without sentiment nor biased mind, but through proper analysis of the truth. Putting an old wine in a new bottle does not make it a new wine... Nigerians please THINK!!! Buhari is not the "change" we need, he's just hungry for power. Talking about corruption, I have my doubts about his sincerity too. Buhari is being sponsored by one of the "most" corrupt leaders in Nigeria history; Bola Ahmed Tinubu. How is he going to fight corruption if he's been backed by such people. (I know that many people are going react to this post, and I'm waiting). Buhari in his first bid to elected as ptesident in 2003, criticized OBJ as a corrupt leader, and the same Buhari still claiming to be a "corruption fighter" was bold enough to tell the world on CNN that that same OBJ has endorsed him. Where is his integrity? I'll pause here, but let me add this: education does not have a substitute, and I doubt if a man that is not interested in self-education can provide for another!!! Education is not only by certificate biko. Even our so called PHD president did not complete his doctorate according to what I hear. No greater disrespect for the world of academia than that - claiming to have a doctorate and using that to deceive people? I'll take a man with a high school diploma that is not ashamed of it over a man who cannot convince us that he actually holds a pHD in Zoology. I'll say Buhari knows and appreciates the value of Education. He remarried and chose a woman with a BA in Public Administration, who is currently pursing a Masters in International Affairs and Strategic Planning. She obviously has his blessings and support. That he does not hold a Bachelor's certificate does not mean he does not know the importance of ensuring others do. It's like saying parents do not have university degrees will never send their kids to school. Isn't it the case where parents who did not go to school do their best to ensure that their own kids attain the highest education possible? |

You're also assuming that rape only happens because a girl is dressed in a certain type of outfit or is drunk or whatever, which is wrong. No matter the situation, if sex is not consensual then it is rape. It doesn't matter what the person is wearing and whether the person is intoxicated or not. No is No. Even if the victim teases you, when they say STOP, you STOP and when they say NO, they mean NO. Some human beings |

2good: Will you respect your husband if he doesn't contribute to the home? Imagine that parent these days spend more money on educating a female than a male child, yet the male is expected to be more responsible financially. While then is all the money spent educating a female child when society expect less of them? A female Phd holder can choose to be a house wife with no problem but a male without even a school certificate degree is not allow to do thesame. That is double standard from people demanding equality. I can't wake up one day and say I choose to be a housewife if it hasn't been discussed w my husband. That doesn't make sense. Forget the money involved. In a marriage you cabt just make solo decisions. I don't understand how equality is entering this issue. All I'm saying is that, financial contribution is not a prerequisite for respect. If the respect you have for your partner depends on how much he/she contributes, then OYO. Each couple should discuss and agree upon what works for them. If I don't gave a job for a whole year and can't contribute financially, should that give my husband the permission to disrespect me? The same applies of the reverse is the case. Anyway, this is just a general view. Other factors come into play but the Koko of my oro is that respect should not be determined by finances. Shikena. |
