How did this become a gay issue? This is rap.e we are talking about. Rap.e is rap.e regardless of if it was by a gay of straight person.

As far as I'm concerned, the dad didn't do enough. The guy can still looks ok. I expected a broken nose, some missing teeth, and one eye gone.

Poor kid... I can't imagine going through that for 3 good years! Smh

shymexx: Hmmm...interesting, I must say.

I think there's a lot of cash flowing in the naija and I believe with little or no capital you can still get something going. How about starting an online drop shipping company from America to Nigeria? I know that's easier to do from America and the buyers have to pay upfront, to avoid fraud. You can also look towards china, for things like wigs and weaves (they're extremely over there) and get them to naija, since a lot of girls are crazy about weaves these days. Tons of people do that in London and they make a lot of money off it.

From what I've seen and with the cashless thing that's growing in naija - online business has a future there. You can start with the little you've got and watch it grow in no time. I'm looking into it as well, and I might get a few things going before the first half of this year, just to test the market. Mine is just going to be more IT based.

There is definitely a lot of money in Naij and that's one of the reasons for my interest. I'll look into the online drop shipping thing. I have other things in mind that I want to do but then the online drop shipping thing might just help me raise the capital I need.

Hi everyone,

Happy New Year!! smiley smiley smiley

Okay so we all know starting a business isn't easy especially when it comes to raising the right amount of capital. For someone who has very little savings and is not particularly interested in taking out a loan, what are other ways of securing this capital within a year for a small business?

I know investing is one, which leads to my other question. What are some short to long term investments one can make in Nigeria?

Any ideas??

Just because they have been married for over a year doesn't mean thru should have kids immediately. Biko leave them to plan their life accordingly. If they decide to have kids, I'd rather they did when they are both ready instead of having them and not been able to take care of them.

Egba girl is so right. While I am proud of Chimamanda as a Nigerian, I wonder how many people commenting on this thread actually read the book. Did you read it eeeeeee? I highly doubt it.

I was quite excited to read the book but like Egba girl I struggled; although I managed to finish it. The book was tedious, completely unrelated to its blurb, and merely an avenue for Chimamanda to share her opinions on race and anecdotoes about life in Nigeria. I read Purple Hibiscus and I loved it. Even though I did not enjoy this book I still admire her skill as a writer. And like I said earlier, I am still proud of her. But for once, Nigerians, call a spade a spade. A book is not fantastic just because your fellow Nigerian wrote it, and you are not unpatrotic for admitting it.

And for those that have not even read the book but find it neceesary to comment, for those that are arguing UNN, igbo 4 life!, I have no words.

I loved Purple Hibiscus too! My favorite so far. For me, I wasn't initially excited becagae I felt the hype about it was too much but then a couple of people that I trust with books recommended it to me.... I still haven't finished it yet undecided

Please stop believing everything you see/hear in the news (especially the western media). Mugabe is not "oppressive". He just refuses to be a puppet to the ever-wanting to control west & so they always look for easy chances to blackmail him.

He himself might not be oppressive but we cannot deny the fact that some of his policies have directly and indirectly oppressed many Zimbabweans. I respect Uncle Bob but I also disagree with some of his policies.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Mugabe Renames Victoria Falls To Mosi Oa Tunya by Egbagirl(f): 5:25pm On Dec 20, 2013
More information on the renaming:

Zimbabwe's ruling Zanu PF party plans to rename world renowned tourist attraction, Victoria Falls arguing it cannot continue to honour the legacy of colonialism and Queen Victoria, whom the falls are named after.

At its conference last week, President Robert Mugabe's party said it did not make sense to continue having colonial names and instead these should be replaced by local ones.
David Livingstone was not the first person to see the Victoria Falls, they (the falls) must be rebranded Mosi-Oa-Tunya

"Institutions bearing colonial names must be changed and be given indigenous names . . . School syllabuses must also change," the party resolved.

"We should teach our children about Mbuya Nehanda, Sekuru Kaguvi, General (Josiah Magama) Tongogara and other gallant fighters of our liberation struggle."

Victoria Falls was named after the British monarch, Queen Victoria by a missionary, David Livingstone, the first white person to set sight on one of the world's seven natural wonders.

At independence in 1980, Mugabe's government set out to rename most major towns and landmarks, although a number were left untouched.

A leader of an association of ex fighters for Zimbabwe's independence, Jabulani Sibanda was on Tuesday quoted saying there was no going back on the resolution.

"We still have institutions like Allan Wilson School, what an insult, considering what that man did to our country.

"David Livingstone was not the first person to see the Victoria Falls, they (the falls) must be rebranded Mosi-Oa-Tunya. We have soldiers living at KG (King George) VI (Barracks)," he thundered.
"How can we have our barracks continue to be named after a foreign king?"

But there are fears this could have a negative effect on tourism, at a time the country is desperate for foreign earnings.

But a belligerent Sibanda maintained that if European tourists want to see the legacy of Queen Victoria "her grave is there in England and they are free to do so. grin grin grin grin Very soon they would be landing at Robert Mugabe International Airport".

Some in Mugabe's party have for long called for radical action to rid the country of its colonial past, but have surprisingly been stopped by the country's 89 year old leader.

A lobby group within Zanu PF once wanted to have the remains of Cecil John Rhodes exhumed from the Matopos Hills and thrown into a river.

Before independence from Britain in 1980, Zimbabwe was called Rhodesia, after Rhodes.

Another group wanted the removal of David Livingstone's statue from the Victoria Falls, but again their efforts came to nothing.

More recently, the government tried to rename all schools with colonial names after what it terms liberation war heroes, but this failed spectacularly and it was forced to abandon the plan.

grandstar: Yeye dey smell! Victoria falls is one of Africas best tourism brands and if not for Mugabes oppressive rule it would be bringing in hundreds of millions if not more in tourist dollars. That new name is all hubris full of fire and brimstone but signifying nothing.

It might not mean much to foreigners but it will definitely mean a lot to the locals. It doesn't always have to be about the other people.

Eziachi: And he still retained his colonial names of Robert Gabriel? As a wise man, he should have started with his own name in his colonial cleansing campaign. A washed out and outdated dictator, who has ran out of idea.

After the renaming gimmick, he will jump into their brand new mercedes, wear their Amani suit and drink their crystal champagne for dinner. Who is fooling who?

But trust stupid Africans, they will fall for the old tricks of our dictators. Yeah, I remembered Mobutu changing his own name to Seseseko as well to make him ultra African but inflicted an un-mending damage to Africa forever.

I hear you and I think you make some valid points. However, if the locals refer to it as Mosi Oa Tunya, I don't see why the name shouldn't be officially changed to that. That's what the people call it,why then call it another name?

I'm sure it has always been referred to as Mosi Oa Tunya way before it was discovered by Livingstone and named in honor of Queen Victoria.
