So in your opinion, Soludo's policies in restoring the value of the Naira was not viable, economically?
Ndipe are you referring to me ? because my last post did not in anyway go along the above quote .
PoliticsRe: What Should We Do About Osama Bin Laden? by egoldman(m): 9:05am On Aug 26, 2007
He is world threat , but certainly not Nigeria's immediate problem , we have more pressing needs than to deal with than Osama issues .
PoliticsRe: Soludo Dropped From National Economic Team by egoldman(m): 9:01am On Aug 26, 2007
Soludo is only a human and if he has done some mistakes with his recent naira policy , the government should not humiliate him like this , why not treat this matter internally , why not call soludo to aso rock and thrash it out with him , should all that he has achieved suddenly be swept aside because of this his recent naira policy ? Yaradua might be a good man , but he might be listening too much to wrong people and wrong advise .I wonder what the foreign investors and the outside world like the world bank would be thinking about the economic policies of this administration .

hence they had the money to open more branches

DOESN'T THIS TRANSLATE TO NEW JOBS ? AND WOULD THE PERSON WHO IS AGAINST BANK CONSOLIDATION PREFER THAT NIGERIA BANKS REMAINS THE WAY THEY WERE B4 SOLUDO CAME IN ? SOMETIMES ITS LOOKS AS IF SOME PEOPLE LOVE TO SEE NIGERIA GOING BACKWARD angry angry
PoliticsRe: Soludo Dropped From National Economic Team by egoldman(m): 7:49pm On Aug 24, 2007
Weather Soludo have goofed with his latest Naira policy should not be the reason to sack him or make him feel its not worth it to continue his job .Weather we like it or not , Soludo is very much part of the reason why the outside world is beginning to have some confidence in the Nigerian economy .Should this one "wrong' policy now overshadow all that he has achieved and bring about his downfall ?
If Soludo will go or be forced to resign , how do you think the outside world would view our president and his policies ? I dont mean to say that we would be ruled based on what other think about us, but i do feel that yaradua might be trying too much to pacify some sections of the country that feel Obj have not favored them during his tenure and that is not good for the country .

shigidi:
@ egoldman, companies normally make their results public 2-4 months after the year end, so u can expect oceanics full year result around late november or early december, however, i think u should buy about 2 months before hand as im sure the price will appreciate before the result in anticipation of a bonus offer.
Shigid thanks for that response , now to you shigidi and easimoni , i have been trying to understand this PE and EPS of a thing , so i have tried to calculate it with intercontinental bank shares , below are my results, i would like you guys to tell me if i am right or wrong , cos i have delayed most of my buyings until i get this right ;

intercontinetal ============ EPS >>>> 1.10
============ EP >>>>> 20.90

now i used the earnings per share they paid for whole year which was 1.10
i now divided their total closing price which is 23.00 and i came to conclude that their EPS as of today is 20.90 , so you guys should tell me if i did well with this calculations . cry cry cry
InvestmentRe: First Bank Shares - Whats Going On? by egoldman(m): 4:25pm On Aug 22, 2007
what was your plan when u invested in the Firstbank shares ? long term or short one ? if long term dont worry much , the fundamentals of the bank have not really changed that much , however if u invested to make money on the short term , then i think you have made a mistake .
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by egoldman(m): 7:12am On Aug 22, 2007
Does anyone know when companies actually make their end of the year public , example i know that oceanic bank will have their year end by September , but when do they actually publish the info to the public ?

What do you guys say about Intercontinental and Oceanic 5 months from now? i plan to buy both with 5 months target in mind , also i want to know if its wise to wait and see if the bearish season go continue ( forgive me cry cry ) as i hear that the month of September is always bearish on the market .

InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by egoldman(m): 4:08am On Aug 15, 2007
But wait oooh , am kinda getting confused here undecided undecided undecided let us look at it from this angle, if someone had bought firstbank shares in 2006 and is eligible for the 1 for 6, then in February this year the person sold it , does that mean the one who bought it (me) will not be able to claim the bonus ? what if the original owner from last year did not sell it, does that mean that owner also is not qualified ? does the change of ownership mean the new owner is not eligible for the bonus ?
damn it i need full contact of firstbank registrar and God help my broker if she is trying to play fast one at me , not gonna take it no easy with her angry angry angry

@ egoldman

Before you go and fight with your broker. Let me jus try to put things as straight as possible. The bonus shares for the year ended 2007 has not yet been credited o. It will be credited to all those still holding the shares of FBN as at 20/8/2007.

What you read on proshare was the bonus issue for the year ended 2006, i read the report too. you are not entitled to that one and that is why your broker is correct.
If anybody has recieved bonus for FBN 2007, let them speak up,

@ easimoni
i will try to post some more analysis.
How many shares does Oando have in issue? i read that it is 572 million. Can you please doublecheck that for me.
Could someone give me the email id and contact numbers of firstbank registrar ? i guess they will be able to tell me where i stand on this .i also need the automated inquiry numbers of the cscs to verify what i have in there (hope its working this time wink wink)

Hello people , I need to be cleared about something here , it could be either i am wrong or my broker is wrong (playing me ?) cry i have bought some Firstbank stocks on the floor in the month of February 2007 .
Now i have read somewhere on the news (www.proshareng.com) that first bank have credited the bonus shares they declared this year to the investors cscs account, i had been thinking that this means i am supposed to be among those those that would receive this bonus, but i called my broker last night and she was telling me that i am not supposed to get the bonus , saying its for those that bought last year , she was also saying something like they will credit the bonus shares to investors cscs account only after their year end , could someone please tell me if i am the one thats wrong here or if its my broker .

InvestmentRe: Stocks That Can Make You Rich In 2007 by egoldman(m): 12:25am On Aug 09, 2007
Transcorp have a of assets that would take them to great heights if turned around , so its likely that the any news coming out from transcorp this days would be about their plans to turn those assets around (like Nitel) , so they seem to have good future ahead .
Also as you said you are not gonna need the money until about end of the year , why don't you leave the stocks till them , just like your broker said you should leave it , believe me some other brokers brokers would say same to their clients and b4 you know it the hype that drives most Nigerian stocks would set in and the stock would start to gain , just my 2 cents though wink wink wink

This first actually happened in the united states last year or so , a friend sent me same by email and i saw the pics , the poster would have told us that it happened in the west so we should watch out in case someone had become too wise here to try such , posting it in a way that makes it look like it happened in Nigeria is not really that tasteful u know.

Aporo:
Whilst i am not an expert on stock analysis, i can identify the following fundamentals:

1. Market share or dominance of the company;

2. The market strength of the Company's product(s) over competition E.g are the product's performance contingent on some other happenings or it's always dominant?

3. Management is key. E.g Access Bank Plc has been recognized for its crop of top managers of late;

4. Debt Profile/Financial Viability of the Company - This factor is significant, it will determine payment of dividends and other pecks. In any event, payment of dividend in the last couple of years will always be a good indicator of a company's financial strength;

6. Look out for likely strategic alliances the company may have with a larger and more reknown company or even potential investments by foreign investor. That has been a major growth driver in the Nigerian banking sector of late.

7. Look out for industry trends i.e ban on importation/exportation one way or the other.

8.Look at the books. If you don't have the expertise, you may want to consult an analyst before you take a position.

These tips are borne out of my personal experience in investments.
Most of the things u listed are what made me buy abc stocks ;

they seem to dominate in their in transport section now in Nigeria, at the list to the best of my knowledge , they have some value added services and products , example they are the first and probably the only transport company thats listed on the NSE .
the first and probably the only transport company that have online facility where you can book oyur ticket online via fidelity bank .
they have traqcking dives that tracks the speed of their drivers and also report to some kind of central station detailing where theire buses are at any given time , with this innovation their drivers would stick their required speed , this will improve safety of passengers and instill confidence .
they have been awarded best transport company in Nigerian, i forgot the year though it was recently.They recently won some contract from lagos state goverment .
their profit after tax has been increasing too , they are spreading their wings to other parts of west africa and this will reflect in their earnings .
one of the main reason why i like them is the cash flow , passengers dont come to the bus park without their ticket money grin grin
ofcos there are risks just like in any other stock , but can the whole of their fleet just have accidents at the same time ?not really .
finally am not any guru oooh, i suggest that them gurus should add to what i have said , thanks .
