VAT is one of the steps to true federalism and resource control. Only if Umahi can see the bigger picture I bet he won't complain. Ebonyi will benefit from VAT collection, although it might not be like her sister states but such move will force the state to look deep into their advantages.

That the Governor hasn't made any statement doesn't mean he’ll wholeheartedly join in the VAT race. Guess the two states pushing for VAT collection, Lagos and Rivers. What does that tells you? Both are super rich with commercial activities going on in their states. Collecting VAT will serve them well than other states with less economic activities. How many people migrate to Ebonyi to settle or work? How many people migrate to Ekiti to look for job? VAT collection favours States with huge IGR not States struggling.

Who told you Ekiti has all it's takes to survive? Deny Ekiti allocation for 1 months and cries will rent the air. Unlike states with oil wells, and others like Lagos, Oyo, Ogun and Enugu with industrial activities, states like Ebonyi relies on the small agro activities the state generates. The only way Ebonyi can stand economically is when there’s huge investment in it's Limestone and other natural resources.

Ebonyi is a poor state and Umahi has every right to defend his state. States like Imo, Anambra, Abia and Enugu can do well and will support state VAT collection. But don't expect states like Ebonyi, Ekiti and a host of others to support it.

Umahi is even doing wonders with the little allocation he’s receiving from the FG and you want him to stand with Rivers and Lagos, two states with huge allocations that can buy Ebonyi 2X.

So nothing like parasite here. The same way Ebonyi is a parasite is the same way Ekiti is a parasite. Both need FG allocation to survive. The only way they can stand on their own is when they is huge economic investment in those states.
