Programming / Re: C# Programming by eko4show(m): 10:49am On Dec 01, 2009
IF you are keen on learning C# and OOP then get hold of " Head First C#". By my estimation, this is the most instructive book on C# for wannabe C# developer. It not only teaches you the language, but also relate it to OOP concepts.

You may download a copy at http://www.esnips.com/doc/8a3669b9-6c44-46c6-9600-0ee207ff1a0c/Head-First-C

Any troubles downloading it, just send me your email, for a copy

even america rigged the last election or woulld you guys tell me Putin conducted a free and fair election in Russia undecided. the point is electioneering process is synonimous goes with rigging anywhere in the world, but when eventually the so called elected get to the office, do they deliver?. i'll rather have a performing leader that was rigged into office than a woeful elected leader. grin

Travel / Re: Horrific Crash Involving Petrol Tanker On Lagos-Ibadan Road by eko4show(m): 5:00pm On Oct 31, 2007
I do not wish for this, but if one of Seun's close relative was involved in this mishap in question, he probably will be singing a different tune. There is no doubt that the accident may have been averted had the driver taken some more caution, but the fundamental issue remains that our roads should not have been death traps in the first place.

i think its a shame and a fundamental failure of the previous government to still have our roads in such states of disrepair in spite of the billions they claim was invested on them.

everyone in a civilised society has a role to play, clearly, our governments have failed the people over and over again.

a father who does not provide good education for his son has no moral justification castigating this son for being an agbero later in life
Career / Re: Certifications Required For Job In IT Department Of A Bank? by eko4show(m): 11:23am On Oct 08, 2007
mcse, ccna, mcdba, oca,ocp , cisa , cissp are all relevant to the banking industry.

i worked in the IT dept of a leading bank in naija for about five years so trust me on this.
the only issue would now be your area of interest, but suffice to say that whichever ares you choose to pursue, the banking sector has a lot of opportunities for seasoned /aspiring IT professionals.

again, be prepared to sacrifice most of your weekends and holidays. that was what really put me off eventually.
Romance / Re: An Open Letter To Nigerian Girls And Ladies by eko4show(m): 12:04pm On Sep 21, 2007
good piece as regards the level of articulation and clearity of thought, but am certainly stuned by the hypocricy of most of the responces to the thread.

i wander how much news it will be if i told my three year old girl that if she jumps up, she will certainly come down
Romance / Re: Are You Married To Or Dating A Pilot? by eko4show(m): 10:11am On Sep 19, 2007
grin This thread reminds me of Lagbaja's albums: " baby ta ni ko fe wa, shugomu, bla, bla, bla, ".
Our women would not stop amusing me. the point is that they often tell us one side of the gist. I bet, this lady in question has all the material comfort she had always wanted to the extent that her neighbors and friends grin with envy and jealousy. , but has she mentioned that in her story?, NO.

Life is about difficult choices especially as it relates to relationship. If you want a long term relationship with a successful career bloke (pilot, doctor, banker, soldier, bla, bla, bla), that can guarantee you the luxury you desire, then you should be ready for cold and lonely nights as he MAY have to work his socks off to provide all that.

on the contrary, if you want that "homely man", that will make dinner, wash the kids, change dippers and keep you warm every night, then he probably MAY not be in a career that fetches the kind of money that would give you the luxury you desire.

In effect, women should know what they want and their priorities. a woman that is married to a married man would only deceive herself to think that she would not have to fight for attention later in life.

the only choice you got here, is to stand by the "consequences" of the decision you took in the past, i will also suggest you make the most him being around , and of course by a bigger pillow and duvet for the cold nights.

a million women would love to swipe positions with you for all you care.

Religion / Re: Are Expensive Church Buildings Really Necessary? by eko4show(m): 11:17am On Sep 14, 2007
Let us balance issues here.
Under Solomon's dispensation, God "needed" to dwell in a house or temple. You will recall that when the glory of God descended  into the temple ( the holies of holy precisely), only the preist could go in and do the usual "abracadabra" even at his peril. Some of the Priests may have have lost their lives and that explains why they had a long rope around their waist and  tingling bells around their ankles.

the new testament has urshered in a new dispensation however. The concept of the new testament Church is completely different to what obtains in the old tesstament. God now dwells in the heart of men , which is the body of Christ, and  not in buildings or churches.

Much as i do not frown at a magnificient worship centres called Churches, i absolutely abhor the  misplacement of priorities of some of our christain leaders
Programming / Re: I'm A Computer Guru, But My Fiancee Is A Market Trader! by eko4show(m): 4:35pm On Aug 06, 2007
@topyblack

relationships are for people that have risen above such petty prejudices like "level", age, race etc. Since you are such "guru", i think its just best that you concentrate on being just that and probably grow up some more b4 thinking of having a woman.

by the way, what kind of computer guru are you? undecided
Romance / Re: Is It True That Marriage Is A Capital Intensive Project? by eko4show(m): 9:43am On Jun 07, 2007
wedding is different from marriage. while the former may be needlessly and mindlessly expensive, the latter is only a matter of give and take.

wedding is a ceremony, marriage is an intitution or the life together after you say "i do"
Business / Re: Your Bank Might Be Defrauding You? by eko4show(m): 11:32pm On May 31, 2007
nigerian banks are no exception my people. Even in UK customers are laden with myriads of unfair bank charges. How else can you explain the mega billion pounds profit of the likes of barclays and royal bank of scotland etc.

i have since resolved that i'll dig a hole in my backyard and keep my money there , just like Fela Anikulapo did. i suggest any disgruntled customer to follow suit. shikena
Business / Re: Please Suggest A Business Name! by eko4show(m): 11:08pm On May 31, 2007
can anyone tell me the meaning of Tesco, Toyota, General Electric, Microsoft, Cadbury , Nestle, Omo or even Coca-Cola. They really have little meaning ordinarily, but the reputation and branding that has gone into those names over decades has differentiated them. They are now no longer names but an experience.

To that extent, you may chose any name that can easily be remembered to start with, over time, through your market differentiation and branding strategy, the name becomes extra-ordinary. Would anyone tell me the name David Bechkam is more superior to Ade Komolafe, not at all, but the marketing/branding behind the former makes all the difference. Am actually supriced that professional marketers in the house are dictating to the contrary .

If you like choose ewedu or gbegiri so long as you meet and exceed customers' satisfaction, you'll be fine. i stand to be corrected on this

Romance / Re: Caught My Husband With His Mistress In Our Room by eko4show(m): 12:00am On May 25, 2007
you have everything to loose by walking out of your married

firstly, you suffer the stigmatization of a divorcee, then you loose your wedded husband to somebody else. believe it or not, if you walk out on him today, there are 1001 women that are waiting. as for you, most men will even look at you twice soon as they discover you have been married before especially if you have had an issue.

much as i condemn in totality what your husband did, it appears women folks are unfairly always the victim in this context.

give him a few slaps and try and find out why he is attracted to somebody else. it might very well be that its an issue that can be easily resolved with better communication.

i wish these self proclaimed "business gurus" would go to places like zimbabwe to prove their skills.
i wonder what kind of business or investment you can groom in an economy with 3000% inflation rate. whoever takes an exception from Big B1's submission on this matter is either inexperience or unexposed. shikena
Family / Re: Why Are My Friends In Nigeria Always Asking Me For Money? by eko4show(m): 6:52pm On May 05, 2007
its no big deal to me, honestly. the mentality of nigerian at home is that you are better off. full stop. its up to you how ell you play your cards.

the calls and the asking would not go away, so you better wake up to that reality and stop mourning.

i remember even when i was a studying, my old colleagues in the banking industry would even ask for the impossible, i had to manage them somehow and i didnt see them as vampires . if you critically look at it , its really not their fault but the impression that had been created by these "oluwole boys" over time.

Career / Re: Is A Third Class In Computer Science Useless? by eko4show(m): 4:58pm On May 02, 2007
i think kayus made the most sence, try and figure out where you could work as a volunteer or minimal pay, get the expereince and the reference on your cv and move on. its just unfortunate you may not find much in terms of volunteer placement in naija. i remember the first IT role i took in UK, becos i didnt have UK experience i found it hard to get a job, so i approached a firm that advertised for a position i liked and i volunteered to work for 4 weeks without pay and i even indicated that if at the end of the day they found my job unsatisfactory , they could kick me out. to cut a lond story short, i worked there for almost two years and i had to leave for a better one.

the issue of becoming a consultant sounds bizzare to me given that you graduated only a year ago and i would imagine you do not have loads of experience. i would imagine consultancy has to do with experince, pedigree and business contact. besides i suppose you wont just float in the street as a consultant, you need an office, and some hardware which will certainly cost you money.

be realistic, you know yourself and your capabilities, but sadly enough you didnt have a great result, for whatever reasons. dust yourself, dont let anyone define your scope, start somewhere, save money, write exams and in four - five years time, your 3rd class would have paled into insignificance. all the best

Career / Re: Can You Describe Your Job? by eko4show(m): 4:27pm On May 02, 2007
marco7,
have you noticed that no teacher or civil servant or any seemingly "unjanded" vocation responded to the thread?. the point i was trying to make is that it is most unlike any of the body in the above above profession would initiate a thread on this nature for the simple reason that such kind of job is widely perceived to be "lowly" and "unitellectual" in naija context.

that explains why somebody would say he attended Unipetrol in the even though he has only gone to technical college. now technical school is fantastic and it has its place in the economy, but if you never go Lag or OAU for naija, you may even be considered an illiterate in some circles.

i hope you grab my point
Career / Re: Can You Describe Your Job? by eko4show(m): 9:46am On May 02, 2007
trust nigerians, when it comes to "showmanship" you will find them.

even people that stock shelves in ASDA or Tesco would tell you they are Business Development Analyst. Why are we so obsessed with ego and title. we put ourselves under undue and unnecessary pressure.

and to be honest, whatever informed this thread in the first place, suggests to me a complex on the part of the initiator.

a white man wold tell you ha is a plumber, he proud of it and he stands by it. our values are just nuts and that is why we will remain where we are.

are we suggesting there is no carer or cleaner or support worker in this house? , but they have all suddenly fizzled into oblivion in the face of the "project Consultants", the " busineess consultants", the " Nuclear Astrophysicist", the "insetment startegist", undecided
Career / Re: Computer Science: A Good Course Or Not? by eko4show(m): 1:03pm On May 01, 2007
i still insist that ill rather study mathematics or electrical engineering and have a postgraduate in software engineering/AI.

i studied computer science, no regrets and i worked in a bank in naija for 6 years , at the moment i work as project manager (systems) in the west and i can confidently tell you that most software laboratories, especially those that develop engineering/AI software would prefer a mathetimatician/engineer with a masters in Software Engineering/AI.

if you want to remain in naija, by all means go for computer science, otherwise a 2.1 or 1 physics, matehmatics or engineering is a passport to the world.
Career / Re: Computer Science: A Good Course Or Not? by eko4show(m): 10:02pm On Apr 30, 2007
i studied computer science in the university, it was great. but if i know knew what i know now, ill have studied mathetimatics or engineering instead.

in the west, a mathematics graduate who is very fluent in C++ or java is of more value in the job market
