Governor Orji’s humility, competence and forcefulness are not in doubt as he has shown uncommon dexterity in the management of human and material resources. He has the breadth of character, requisite finesse, wit and sharpness of mind, high moral integrity and sense of judgment characteristic of a true transformer. He has given Abians reasons to approach the future with great optimism. The legacies have just begun.

Politics / Oyo Government Removes Lunatics From Ibadan Roads by EkoAtlantic: 3:03am On Aug 16, 2013
Thursday, 15 August 2013 05:56
RESIDENTS of Ibadan living on Total Garden-Yemetu-Idi-Arere-Oja’ba axis were astonished on Wednesday, as one Hiace commercial bus, with Oyo registration number XF 843 NRK, picked lunatics from the streets of the city.
The bus, according to Nigerian Tribune investigation, belonged to an agency commissioned by the state government to rid the city of mentally challenged people on the road.

Branded in the colours of the state commercial paint, the bus was first noticed on Bodija road, en route Beere. It stopped around Yemetu, opposite Mobil petrol station to pick a mentally challenged woman and at Oja’ba, around Isude Mosque.

When the Nigerian Tribune contacted some of the officials of the agency on board with the mentally challenged, one Afinju Leke, who did not mention the name of the agency, said they were from the Ministry of Environment and Habitat, commissioned to rid the road of mentally challenged.
He said the agency had been picking the affected people on the road and taking them to a designated camp at Soka-Boluwaji, on Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.

When contacted, the information officer of the Ministry of Environment and Habitat, Cosmas Oni, confirmed that the agency was truly commissioned by the state government and was initially attached to the ministry.
“It is true that the agency was commissioned by the state government to do the job. However, it has been moved to the Ministry of Women Affairs, so it’s no longer under Environment ministry again,” he said.

Fashola has set a model for other states to follow.
Oyo state government used the idea of Lagos BRT, introduced her own transport service system named "Pace setter Transport Service(PTS). Ibadan is Nigeria's biggest city in land mass(almost the size of some states, e.g.Imo). Which makes it very essential to have a good city transportation system.
PTS carries people within Ibadan no matter how long the wanna go at maximum of N50(cheaper than that of BRT & Lagbus in Lagos), N20 and N30 at times.

They provide free services in festive days like they did in the just concluded salah celebration.
State Government workers and school students and pupils(private and public) take the buses for free everyday.

With this, old rugged and dirty buses have reduced drastically and Oyo state has been able to generate money. Wonder why Oyo state hasn't borrowed any amount since Ajimobi got elected.

The smaller buses(14 passangers) are for inter-state transportation.

Cocoa Mall will relive old memories – Developer
The developer of the Cocoa Mall in Ibadan, Oyo State, Chief Tokunbo Omisore, has said the aim of building the complex is to relive the memories of the days of mega shopping malls in the country such as Leventis, Kingsway Stores and UTC.

He said the mall would also help to solve the problem of the rise in unemployment in Oyo and neighbouring states.

Omisore said, “With many brands coming to be part of the Cocoa Mall, it is employment opportunities for the creative minds in the state. In the days of the Kingsway, Leventis and UTC stores in Ibadan and Lagos, it was always fun-filled days after visiting the departmental stores because consumers were able to purchase items at affordable prices in hygienic and cosy environments.

“The Cocoa Mall will bring this memory back to the older ones and thrill the younger generations to the fact that you don’t need to travel abroad to get great services in terms of goods.”

He said in a statement issued on Friday that the mall, which is expected to open in October, would also boost patronage of made-in-Nigeria goods.

Omisore, who is the President of the African Union of Architects, said, “The Cocoa Mall is an international standard in terms of structure and pricing, and it is first of its kind in Oyo State. Though the mall is a huge investment, we have set reasonable time for return on investment on the project.

“The mall is 80 per cent allotted and paid for by prospective shop operators of repute in the growing country’s retail industry. We have multinationals and also those who are growing their businesses as occupants; these are people, who are set to majorly project made-in-Nigeria goods.”

He said the mall offered a total of 14,000 square metres of floor area with international and local brands taking up unique positions.

Here are few I can get now on Ibadan.
I'll try to get more later, if I have the time.

I know he's has also tried in increasing Oyo state's IGR. And many more.
The bridge below is looking better now, this is an old picture of it when it was still under construction.

I'll also post pictures of the heritage mall which has changed the old ways of shopping and flexing in Ibadan, that'll be later.

Ogun posts 61.26% Q1 budget performance, as monthly IGR stays at N4bn
August 13, 2013
Oluwande Muoyo, the Ogun state commissioner for budget and planning has disclosed that the 2013 Ogun state budget size of N211.8 billion which was approved by the State House of Assembly in December 2012 had recorded a cumulative overall performance of 61.26 percent in the second quarter (Q2), just as the State monthly internally-generated revenue (IGR) stays at N4 billion.

The budget performance, according to the commissioner, was better than that of 2012, which stood at an average of 50 percent at the same period last year.

Muoyo said though the 61.26 percent budget performance in the second quarter of 2013 was better than that of last, it however performed below government financial expectations, therefore “there is still a lot more to accomplish”.

She said, “This improved performance was made possible by our aggressive and collective commitment to our Internally Generated Revenue IGR drive. The result of this is that our IGR now stands at an average of N4 billion monthly. We must appreciate the key stakeholders that have committed themselves to the mission to rebuild our dear State”.

Muoyo, who addressed pressmen in Abeokuta on Tuesday on the “Ogun State Mid-Year Budget Performance”, also revealed that the State Capital and Recurrent Expenditure split stood at 53:47 respectively, in the second quarter, which she declared was “still marginally below the State target for 2013 fiscal year that is projected at 55:45” for Capitals and Recurrent.

She highlighted the basics of the 2013 Budget premised on the Governor Ibikunle Amosun-led administration development agenda and cardinal programmes, to include affordable qualitative education, efficient health care delivery, agricultural production/industrialisation, affordable housing and urban renewal and rural, infrastructural development as well as employment generation.

The commissioner however, emphasized the significance of funding in ensuring that State projected developmental projects and programmes are executed, she therefore, urged the citizens and residents “to perform their civic duties and ensure that their employers pay their taxes to the coffers of the State where they reside as and when due”.

Ogun: Propelling Development Strides With Seven Additional Flyovers
8/8/2013
The ongoing urban renewal programme has literally turned Ogun State into one huge construction site. Over the last two years, the Governor Ibikunle Amosun-led administration has tenaciously pursued it, transforming the landscape with road infrastructure and re-enacting development at an overwhelming pace hitherto unimagined.

As part of this beautification drive is the plan to deliver seven flyovers across the state by December, this year. Surely, many residents are eagerly awaiting this monumental projects embedded in the government’s mission to rebuild agenda.

The flyovers are currently under construction simultaneously in Abeokuta, Ago-Iwoye, Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu areas. They include the two bridges at Itoku and Sapon along OGTV-Brewery road in Abeokuta; two bridges along Ilishan-Ago Iwoye road; Mobalufon flyover and Lagos Garage flyover along Ejinrin-Oluwalogbon junction, Ijebu Ode; and the flyover at Sabo, Sagamu.

Already, the Amosun administration has given a glimpse of its promise with the Ibara flyover located in Abeokuta, the state capital. The dual carriage overhead bridge is reputed as the first ever flyover constructed in Abeokuta by any state government since the creation of

Ogun in 1976. For some observers, the Ibara flyover has provided the vista to peepinto the bigger picture of more amazement to come. The flyover begins at the end of Lalubu road and opens into a standard six-lane Ibara-Ita Eko-Sokori-Totoro road, which was completed with drainages, median, greenbelt, walkway, streetlights, modern bus-stop and a pedestrian bridge equipped with air-conditioner, among other modern features.

Apart from the ongoing flyovers, several roads are also being handled by different construction firms across the state. These multibillion Naira projects include Ilo-Awela road in Ota; Moshood Abiola Way, Ojere/Adatan/Asero road and Lafenwa/Aiyetoro/Ajebo road in Abeokuta; Sagamu-Benin Express/Oba Erinwole junction road in Sagamu; Ilara/Ijoun/Egua/Oja-Odan/Ilase road in Ipokia; Ilishan/Ago-Iwoye road; Ikangba-Ilese road; Ejinrin/Mobalufon/Ibadan road in Ijebu-Ode, Ofada/Mowe/Ibafo roads; and Sango-Ijoko/ Oke Aro/Ojodu Abiodun road.

The state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Olamilekan Adegbite, said recently that the flyovers were expected to be delivered before the end of the year. He described the Ibara flyover as a model and benchmark to be replicated in all the three senatorial districts of the state.

Towards ensuring that all roads being constructed by the state government are completed as scheduled, the commissioner disclosed that contractors handling the projects have started asphalting sections of the roads.

During an inspection tour of the sites, Adegbite explained that the asphalting of sections of the roads were done after completion of all necessary concrete and earth works on the concerned roads.

“Some of the roads on which the sectional asphalting had been done include MKO Abiola Way, the Ilara axis of the 107km Ilara-Ijoun-Eggua road, Sagamu expressway-Sabo road, Ilo-Awela road in Ota and Onikolobo axis of Ojere-Adatan road in Abeokuta. The contractors are aware of the state government’s stand on when the roads are to be delivered and they are working towards achieving this,” he said.

The commissioner expressed satisfaction that despite the rainy season, the pace of work had not been slowed down but rather tremendous progress recorded on all the roads.

At the inauguration of the 2.4km Ibara-Totoro road on January 24, 2013, Amosun had given insight into his administration’s massive investment in infrastructure. He said it was in fulfilment of his electoral promises to the people.

The governor had expressed optimism that the flyover would aid movement of goods and services, ease traffic flow and reduce manpower-time wasted in traffic congestion, thereby improving the productive time of individuals plying the road.

He said, “Our goal is to put our state in the league of advanced economies and make it investors’ destination of choice not only in Nigeria but sub-Saharan Africa. To achieve this, we will continue to rehabilitate existing infrastructure and construct not just modern but high-tech infrastructure that will enhance the magnificence of our environment and act as a catalyst for our socio-economic development.

“I thank residents for their support and sacrifices for this project, especially those whose property gave way to the beautiful edifices that we are building across the state. I urge you to exercise more patience and continue to support the administration in its mission to rebuild Ogun.”

The governor assured that his administration was committed to improving the standard of living of the people through the provision of necessary infrastructure, including good roads, electricity, affordable health care, qualitative education, clean and potable water, shelter and empowerment of the people to become self-reliant.

To sustain these efforts, he called on the people of the state to support government by paying their taxes, levies and dues adequately and regularly. He also urged the organised private sector to take advantage of the enabling environment being provided and partner with the state government to create wealth and achieve good returns on investment.

With the massiveness of the capital-intensive projects, many have wondered how the Amosun administration would be able to execute them.

“Would these projects not plunge the state into needless debts” or “would they not be abandoned ultimately” have been the sort of question agitating curious minds?

The government’s huge investment could rather be imagined with 15 model schools under construction, purchase of tractors and other agricultural equipment, purchase of power transformers, Bus Mass Transit (BMT) buses, vacuum trucks for environmental sanitation, 13 Armoured Personnel Carriers and 240 security patrol vehicles, renovation and equipping of existing health institutions and the planned construction of 10 state-of-the-art hospitals across the nine federal constituencies in the state.

Good development. I'll try one someday if I'm guaranteed of the safety.

INNO18: pls sell ur mediocrity to the akara vendor by the junction...Winning who's heart? If he truly wants to win our hearts he should begin by constructing the 2nd Niger bridge which only a few months ago we read that '' works had begun on it'' yesterday i was in onitsha and saw absolutely nothing there...just by the side is the 'river port' as idle as Gej left it...the only thing he's achieved so far is a 3rd class but manageable airport in Enugu. we still have the worst federal roads in the federation, the ones being constructed are done at snail speed. Yet Igbos praise and buttlick Jonathan the most!...Igbos! We're so Gullible! tUFIA KWA!

Must you wait for the federal government to build necessary infrastructures for you? What's preventing the states involved in constructing the bridge from their own pocket and request for the refund from the FG.
The states involved, Delta and Anambra state are both oil producing state.
This bridge is not up to 1.5KM.

Akwa Ibom has constructed and constructing tens of federal roads.
Osun state is #5 in the SW as per riches, yet she's constructing federal roads of about 45km.
Lagos is making a three lane on both sides of Ketu-Ikorodu(mostly water logged areas) with enough bridges, yet it's a federal road.
Rivers is not left out.

Try to be independent for once.
