I don't even get mad at the stuff I read there, it just cracks me up.

LOL@like my husband being the only NIGERIAN I know.  Okay.  (chuckles at the dumbness)[/quote]This ain't got nothing to do with feelings. You don't know sh1t about Nigerian dudes. Stop generalizing and pretending as if you know what you are talking about. You clearly do not.

If you DO want to start generalizing, we can do that. There are plenty of generalizations I can make about you and people like you. Hope you won't "catch feelings" if I do.

By the way, I don't do random bleeps.  That your expertise.  wink
If you say so. Personally I don't give a damn what you think. . . if it makes you happy to believe that, so be it.

ogugua88:
I just added a poll.

I was born in the US so some of my views are more liberal than the average Nigerian. I don't go to church either. This guy is asking too much of me in my opinion. I don't just believe in things because I want to, because I want to be different, or because other people are. I have and uphold my values because I've experienced some thing or some things; there is always reason behind it. I feel that what he's asking me to do is change my way of life to appease him and his parents. Quite frankly, I can't live a life like that.

I know some people are willing to change, either a little or a lot. If I have a flaw, then I'll say I have a flaw. Like someone said earlier, no one is perfect. If he was asking me to lose weight or cut my hair, then fine, that's physical and a discussion can follow lol. He has his beliefs and ideas. What he believes in doesn't bother me. Every day though, he's at me about my beliefs and values. I'm getting annoyed is all. I'm not copping out, trust me. I can look myself in the mirror and say I was wrong and correct a situation, but to change who I am in terms of mind and thought is unrealistic.
So in short, he wants you to go to church and do religious things X, Y and Z? Maybe abstain from A, B and C?

I still think life is about give and take. Trust me, you are going to end up making him do some boring @ss sh1t he doesn't want to do. But he'll end up doing w/o much complaining.

Basically, you'll end up changing a bit, but he will too. So long as everything is fair and even-handed, no wahala.
PoliticsRe: are you a criminal? get votes for gej and you are forgiven, instantly. by ekubear1: 1:44am On Feb 06, 2011
How many votes must one deliver to GEJ to wipe away murder?

We need a price list.

Information on how much various criminals in Nigeria are paying to GEJ (in the coin of votes) would also be useful  tongue
RomanceRe: How Much Are You Willing To Change: ? by ekubear1: 1:42am On Feb 06, 2011
You've got to change to some extent if you want a successful relationship. I dunno. I feel "accept me for me" is a bit of a copout.

Change isn't bad, if it leads to becoming a better person.

And this is why women have to be very selective about who they deal with.

If your wife is lazy, not going to ruin your life.

But a woman with a lazy husband likely will have a crappy life.

Anyway, at the OP. . . that is just the way the world is. Women have to be more selective about romance than guys. Consequences for not being selective as a woman are far harsher than they are for a guy.

Most interesting thing about the UK to me is that they have this big, powerful multinational (Shell), and their country doesn't even produce much oil.

Kinda impressive.

What is their economy based upon?

Primarily London and international finance/banking, right? They don't manufacture or build anything of note, do they?

Perhaps some UK nationals can shed some more insight on what their country's economy is based on (I'm too lazy to Wikipedia it right now. . . )
PoliticsRe: Nigeria To Commence Islamic Banking Soon – Sanusi by ekubear1: 9:03pm On Feb 05, 2011
Kinda nuts. I was talking with my buddy last night over dinner about Islamic Banking.

He has a cousin in Singapore who is some sort of banker and sells Islamic banking financial products.

Long story short, there is no real difference between it and Western-style banking. . . the effect/impact on the borrower is pretty much the same.

Here is an example, courtesy Wikipedia:

In an Islamic mortgage transaction, instead of loaning the buyer money to purchase the item, a bank might buy the item itself from the seller, and re-sell it to the buyer at a profit, while allowing the buyer to pay the bank in installments. However, the bank's profit cannot be made explicit and therefore there are no additional penalties for late payment. In order to protect itself against default, the bank asks for strict collateral. The goods or land is registered to the name of the buyer from the start of the transaction. This arrangement is called Murabaha. Another approach is EIjara wa EIqtina, which is similar to real estate leasing. Islamic banks handle loans for vehicles in a similar way (selling the vehicle at a higher-than-market price to the debtor and then retaining ownership of the vehicle until the loan is paid).
So no real practical difference. Just slightly different (and more awkward, imo) customs to make people feel as if they are getting an interest-free loan.

Anyway, let's not tie this up with Islamification, Jihadism, etc. It is really just a gimmick to make it appear that you are getting something (a loan) for nothing (no interest).
PoliticsRe: How Will Nba Star Ian Mahinmi(dallas Mavericks) Feel, about Yoruba Unification by ekubear1: 7:54pm On Feb 05, 2011
I don't think unification is strictly necessary, Becomerich. The main thing is to leave Nigeria, or at the very least have true federalism.

I think once that occurs, naturally the Western border will become more open. Especially if we run Yorubaland properly and ensure that it becomes one of the fastest growing nations in Africa (by fastest growing, I mean in a GDP/capita sense.)

Who would not want to unite with such a well-run country?

As poorly managed as Nigeria is, this will not be very hard to do, in my opinion.

ChinenyeN:
Some are here trying to argue how they think it should be, when the reality of the situation is that this indigene vs settler thing is a very real phenomenon, and one that will not be dissipating anytime soon, no matter the 'constitution' in Nigeria. We all know this. So, just be realistic about all this, and stop trying to sound "progressive". It's irritating.

Nigerian Arabic is a variety of Arabic spoken in the farthest northeastern part of Nigeria in Borno State especially in Maidaguri where it is spoken by 10% of the population.
10% of. . . Maidugiri? And seems limited to NE Nigeria. In other words, where the Shuwa Arabs live. . . so probably most of that 10% is them.

Doesn't seem to be spoken by ordinary northerners elsewhere. . . ?

I was under the impression that the koranic schools would be a bit useless for teaching the language. Just memorization of verses. That really isn't enough to learn the language well.
CultureRe: What Does Mahinmi Mean In Yoruba? by ekubear1(op): 8:26am On Feb 05, 2011
From my understanding, Hausa uses Arabic characters (Akanji/Akami or something script.) The same way Yoruba (and English) use Latin characters.

But I don't think this suggests any fluency in Latin in and of itself. If Buhari speaks Arabic fluently, I'd be a bit impressed. Just because Nigeria is not a country where it would be easy to become fluent in that language, given the lack of Arabic speakers.
