I am disappointed in you for making such a statement.
Am I lying?

Show me how this statement is false, inaccurate, or misleading. It is 100% true. It might not be politically correct or what people want to hear, but it is the truth, is it not?
PoliticsRe: 26 Political Parties Align With Apga In Lagos by ekubear1: 10:23pm On Jan 13, 2011
For those of you who claim that Yoruba are singularly tribalist, the issue is that our region of Nigeria appears to be the most desirable and hospitable. I don't see people moving en masse to Igboland, in fact they are moving en masse out, either North or West. It is easy to say others are too protectionist when you yourself have nothing to protect.
PoliticsRe: 26 Political Parties Align With Apga In Lagos by ekubear1: 10:18pm On Jan 13, 2011
@dayokanu: I'm working under the assumption that they are going to change tactics. That they are actually trying to build a party that can succeed in Lagos. So I'm assuming that they won't be trotting out unpopular guys like Ojukwu in APGA Lagos. An endorsement from him is the kiss of death in the SW. . . nobody likes him there. If I ran on the APGA ticket, I wouldn't want any cameras to be around if I'm talking to him, lol. And God forbid if pictures are taken!

If this assumption is wrong, and they want it just be Ojukwu's party, then they are destined to fail in the SW. That is just reality.

(And as a digression, with all due respect to Ojukwu, what political success (or success, period) has the guy ever had anyway?  undecided He hasn't even won his own region, the PDP is still dominant in the SE. . .)
PoliticsRe: 26 Political Parties Align With Apga In Lagos by ekubear1: 10:06pm On Jan 13, 2011
Nothing wrong with being tribalist. 99% of humans are tribalist anyway, so it is sort of a meaningless slander
PoliticsRe: 26 Political Parties Align With Apga In Lagos by ekubear1: 9:52pm On Jan 13, 2011
ACN in SE is not a Yoruba party, it is primarily an Igbo party.

APGA in Lagos will also be primarily a Yoruba party.

The Democratic Party is mostly liberal, but obviously a Texas or Alabama Democrat is conservative.
Same thing with the Republicans.

I think the concern is being blown way out of proportion here.

PoliticsRe: 26 Political Parties Align With Apga In Lagos by ekubear1: 9:16pm On Jan 13, 2011
@Obiaglu1: Anybody is allowed to contest. But the question is, can such a person get enough votes to win? I don't think an Igboman running on an APGA platform has a chance of winning. There simply aren't enough Igbos in state for him to win purely on Igbo votes, and the Yoruba will close ranks against him, due to the issues raised repeatedly throughout this thread.

Allowed to contest != high chance of winning.

dayokanu:
Thats how they do their politics. In the first republic, When NCNC had majority in the Western house, instead of Zik to nominate a Yorubaman in the NCNC like TOS benson, Fadahunsi, Adeniran Ogunsanya etc for Premier, He Nnamdi Azikwe wanted to be Premier in the West.

No wonder why it was so easy for AG to perfect the cross carpet shitzo. I knew a NCNC man from then that told me that was the campaign AG people had then that Why not nominate a Yoruba man instead he wants to come and rule in Yorubaland
Hopefully they will learn from their mistakes  undecided

dayokanu:
Dapo, I think APGA presented an igbo man for lagos Governorship in the last elections
If they do this, even with an alliance with 26 other parties, they will simply get nowhere.

Any parties viewed as "ethnic" parties cannot run a candidate from their own ethnic group in another man's land. It is really that simple. Doing so will cause people to close ranks behind Tinubu and the ACN.

If APGA is SERIOUS about making inroads in the ACN, you'll do it through Yoruba candidates. Otherwise you'll be tarred and feathered as an Igbo domination plot and thus fail.
PoliticsRe: 26 Political Parties Align With Apga In Lagos by ekubear1: 8:38pm On Jan 13, 2011
I highly doubt APGA would be moronic enough to nominate an Igboman as governor candidate (or even local government candidate.) They'd want to avoid this sort of blind fear and easy slandering that is being exhibited in this thread.

If APGA makes inroads in the west, the heavy movers for APGA in that region will be in the SW.

Or does ACN run Yoruba candidates in Sokoto or Kaduna?  tongue

Anyway, this is a welcome development, assuming I am understanding their intentions properly. It is becoming increasingly clear that Tinubu has tyrannical tendencies and his power must be checked.

The ACN cannot be allowed to keep shouting "Awolowo", "progressives", "PDP=evil" and use that as an excuse to do whatever they like. Let others build strong progressive coalitions and challenge the ACN for the hearts and minds of the people.

PoliticsRe: Why Does Nigeria Lack Creative Entrepreneurs by ekubear1: 12:35pm On Jan 13, 2011
Most interesting thing I've read in this report so far:

Other sources appear to confirm that although corruption may be perceived as a major bottleneck in Nigeria, it is not much worse than in
comparator countries. Transparency International’s corruption perceptions index (CPI), which attempts to quantify the degree of corruption
as seen by businesspeople and country analysts, ranges between 10
(highly clean) and 0 (highly corrupt). Table 2.9 shows that Nigeria ranks
147th (of 180 countries), close to Indonesia; Kenya and Venezuela
appear to be slightly worse. These results may, at first sight, seem intriguing. Internationally,
Nigeria is perceived to be a country in which corruption is a major
problem. In fact, the data from table 2.9 do suggest that corruption is
(in relative terms) problematic because it ranks Nigeria 147th of 180
countries. However, a closer look at the data shows that corruption does not appear to be much worse in Nigeria than in the other comparator countries, especially Kenya, Venezuela, and Indonesia. According to
the investment climate survey data fewer firms in Nigeria perceive corruption to be a major or very severe constraint when compared with
Kenya, Venezuela, and Indonesia, which is in line with the perceptions
reported by Transparency International.
It can be argued that managers internalize corruption and hence
report a lower level of corruption even though the problem is actually
higher than perceived. To address this concern we looked instead at
objective indicators of corruption, such as the amount of bribes paid
“to get things done.” Even in this case, as shown earlier, objective indicators of corruption show that the amount of bribes paid by firms in
Nigeria is lower than that paid in Kenya and similar to the amount paid
in Indonesia. Furthermore if we look at the evolution of corruption
over time we notice that in the past few years Nigeria’s corruption
level has been improving. This finding is confirmed by other sources
and is a result of the significant effort taken by the Nigerian government to fight corruption through enacting the Corrupt Practices Act
and establishing the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related
Offences Commission (figure 2.cool.

I just found this EXCELLENT report by the World Bank assessing the business climate in Nigeria.

Atiku is/was a frightfully corrupt dude.

I have no clue if this new story is true or not, but reading through that report. . . bleh.

I have no clue how this guy is being fielded as the candidate of the North.

I've never liked the name "Oduduwa Republic" or "Odua Republic" either.

Something more catchy will need to be found.

Lording things over minorities is a bad idea, only causes discord. Cannot leave Nigeria only to replicate some of the things that caused it to fail.

In any case, if I had it my way, Oduduwa Republic would be very federalist. Only need to meet at the middle for things like national defense, border control, economic policy, immigration, etc. I don't see why the federal government of that republic needs to be stronger than it has to be. . . the weaker the better, imo.
