Diademk07:FIFA rated Di Maria as one of the best. You just like stories. There is nothing easy in the opposition Argentina played. Di Maria even out performed Messi in some of their matches. Van Gaal messed up. He doesnt know how to use players. |
Kagawa10, even whoscored rated Di Maria as 11th best player in the world cup, but you said he was average. How you take dey watch ball sef? He was the most dangerous player in the knockout phase. You also see he was the first name on FIFA shortlisted during the tournament. I think the list came out after the semi final, even though he couldn't play to that extent. I end my argument here. Van Gaal messed up big time.
|
Diademk07:I wont argue with you. But look at the players shortlisted for the best player award in the last world cup. Also which player was punishing the Nigerian defence? Di Maria was easily the most dangerous player in the knockout stage but injury stopped him, and that affected Argentina in the final. To me they should have won it if he played till the end. ..... On 11 July 2014, the FIFA Technical Study Group announced the ten-player shortlist for the Golden Ball award. [4] Ángel Di María Mats Hummels Toni Kroos Philipp Lahm Javier Mascherano Lionel Messi Thomas Müller Neymar Arjen Robben James Rodríguez |
Diademk07:The difference between Smalling and Blind last season was like heaven and earth. The reason we played close to our box was because of the lack of speed of Blind. That alone invited pressure and stalled our attacking prowess. Blind is also short which made opposition bullied us with long balls into our box. How can you use Jones first match from injury in the U-21 to rate him? Such matches are part of gaining fitness, and the players doesnt have to stretch too much muscle to avoid a premature return to the clinic. Van Persie was also poor in the under 21. Rooney was also poor, but the next match he was MOTM for the senior side. To me the assumption that Jones is not intelligent is a myth. Smalling was also very prone to injuries until last season. Rafael always spent more time in the hospital than on the field. |
Diademk07:Gaal didn't know how to use him. This is same Di Maria who was on course to becoming player of the tournament in last world cup until his injury. Despite him being scarcely used, he was one of the top Assist providers in EPL two seasons ago. To me he was the best among the trio of Modric, Alonso and Maria. The pace with which he carried the ball forward ensured Madrid counter was very effective, particularly in the UCL knockout matches. He was protected by poor Blind in United, and that was Gaal's fault. I could imagine if we had a player like Kante behind him. |
SIRcumalot:Many games. I only gave an obvious instance. |
SIRcumalot:Abegi, the only good thing about Blind last season was that he was fit. He actually cost us the West Ham match that should have given us a top four finish. Gaal should have played Jones or Mensah against the tall hammers forwards. |
DAILY TRUST .................................. Perceived appearance of Christ draws crowd to Makurdi church Aug 9 2016 5:00AM A crowd of spectators yesterday besieged the St. Augustine Catholic Church, Nenger in Makurdi over claims that Jesus Christ appeared on the crucifix (cross) hung at the church altar. Our correspondent who visited the parish located behind Government Model College by Zone 4 Police headquarters in the High Level area of Makurdi, observed an unusual illumination around the crucifix as worshippers surrounded the altar prayed for the mercies of God upon His creation. It was said that ‘the sudden apparition of Christ accompanied by a mild wind’ was first witnessed by a group of parishioners at 3pm on Sunday during their normal divine mercy prayers, consequent upon which the group intensified their prayers until it became glaring that something very unusual was happening in their parish just as other worshippers were alerted to the scene such that throughout the night, people kept vigil. While the news spread around the state yesterday, people continued to troop in and out of the premises to see things for themselves, and the commercial motorcyclists made brisk businesses transporting passengers. A spectator, Sev John, a non-Catholic who attends NKST church, said he heard about the development and decided to find out for himself. “I heard that Jesus appeared here and that one woman was the first to see him, so I came to find out the truth. I have seen the picture myself, it is true. I saw the head but wouldn’t know if it is Jesus. I believe that Jesus is coming soon,” John said. Another respondent, Simon Terver, simply added, “I heard that Jesus appeared, so I came here. I saw something around his image.” But the parish priest and those present at the time of the unusual development have declined comment on grounds that they were not worthy to speak to any journalist about spiritual matters. Contacted, the Communications Director of the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, Reverend Father Moses Iorapu, said that the Catholic Church does not jump into conclusion of unusual happenings until it confirmed them. “What we have here is some unusual illumination of Christ around the crucifix. It happened when the people were praying. The Church takes time to confirm such phenomenon,” Iorapu said. www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/perceived-appearance-of-christ-draws-crowd-to-makurdi-church/158349.html |
SailorXY:If only we didn't allow Di Maria go. |
SIRcumalot:I think our playing close to the goalkeeper (DDG) appears to be what has covered his weaknesses. |
Our defensive play is more compact now. Some things have improved, but we need to: Improve further the frequency with which we get the ball to the final third and inside the box. We need to improve further on winning the ball in midfield. Spend less time passing the ball around in our own half. We need to be more direct, and play more with pace and power. We have a striker who is an inbox King, so we have to get a lot of balls and crossings into the box. If it were a striker like Tevez, then we would have been fine playing far from the box while everyone races down at once at the opposition defence. We wait for the season to start to see how it goes and how things work out. We have players with jumping power (Ibrahimovic, Bailly and Pogba), so we will be a threat from set plays and long balls while also doing better defending than last few seasons. |
I see formation with Smalling as RCB while Bailly as LCB. It makes no sense. Smalling is more experienced and will be paying on the left side which is more difficult for both guys because they are right footed defenders. Moreover Smalling has played there before. And Mourinho did not play Bailly on the left side of central defence throughout the pre-season. |
SIRcumalot:It will still not work. Chamberlain and Wilshere will breeze past him with ease, in fact everyone will breeze past him easily as he is the most sluggish player in the EPL. It is also more difficult to win aerial duels in midfield than defence. He will be bullied off the ball in the middle of the park. Blind will be backup to Smalling in the left side of our central defence, and then one of the backup to Luke Shaw in the left back. To me Blind best position is left back. |
afrodoc2:Why can't Schneiderlin play the DM? The former Belgian national team coach said Fellaini is a good DM but United never uses him there. |
tess1:Blind also passes with one foot which makes him pass mostly to his left. Unlike Carrick who passes with ease to both sides. Blind offers zero protection to the defence, he lacks speed and passes with one foot. |
Odunharry:It closed before I got there. I have been absent from nairaland and I didnt pay attention to my mentions. Sorry about it. Goodluck . |
I don't know what exactly the argument is, but when we played the diamond under Gaal, we had Blind in the base of the diamond while Rooney/Mata played at the tip. Di Maria and Herrera were at the sides. When we played it under SAF against Newcastle which we won 3-0 in 2012/2013, Carrick was at the base, Rooney in the tip and Kagawa and Cleverley in the sides. Overall, I don't rate Blind as a DM, he didn't offer any solid protection to Di Maria when he was at the base of our diamond under Gaal. I also prefer calling the formation 4-1-2-1-2 to calling it 4-4-2 diamond. 4-4-2 is a different stuff totally where you play with width. Below screenshots when we played diamond against Newcastle (we won 3.0), West Ham (we won 2-1) and QPR (we won 4-0)

The diamond formation is best explained with 4-1-2-1-2 ......................GK RB..... CF............ CD..... LB ............... DM(base) .... MFR..................... MFL ................ AM(TIP) ........ DO..... .......... FW |
The Reasoning Behind United's World Record Move for Pogba by Miguel Delaney at Wednesday, Jul 27 2016 After the latest talks with Manchester United about Paul Pogba, Juventus were still completely unmoving on their asking price of €120m - with all representative fees to be thrown on top of that too - and it’s a figure that’s still a little hard to get your head around. It’s all the more difficult to comprehend if you solely consider the player’s performances at Euro 2016. With Pogba taking centre stage of a tournament his own country were hosting, expectation had almost built to the point that he was expected to emulate Zinedine Zidane and deliver the trophy with definitive individual displays, just as the midfield maestro managed in 1998. That didn’t happen. In fact, Pogba didn’t make much happen at all. He obviously wasn’t the complete flop that some seem to be arguing, but he was just quiet, only ever showing the odd flash of that obvious talent. Pogba often seemed constrained by his position, in fact, but that might be the key to comprehending why it is not quite so utterly ludicrous to paying so much for what is mostly potential. As gradually became clearer throughout Euro 2016 and was made painfully apparent in the final, Didier Deschamps never figured out how to properly use the 23-year-old’s abilities, and ended up just awkwardly fitting him into very fixed roles rather than looking to integrate the player into a fluid midfield that released him. The defeat to Portugal was the nadir, as it was like Pogba had been ordered not to leave the centre circle. This just wasn’t the best use of his quality. It was, however, very like some of Steven Gerrard’s most frustrating displays for Liverpool and England; when he was being shoe-horned into a position that didn’t fully suit his excellence. It was one of the most persistent issues with Gerrard’s otherwise brilliant career, and could yet be a defining one for Pogba’s nascent career. Because of the way the long-legged French star combines exhilarating physical power with supreme technical ability, but so often seems shackled and subdued by roles that require more tactical discipline, the comparisons with the Liverpool legend come easy. Finding exactly the right position to fully maximise his quality isn’t so easy, as Deschamps found, but Mourinho may well have a solution. He certainly had a clear role in mind for Gerrard at Chelsea in 2005, explaining why he was so keen to sign the English midfielder that summer, and it’s equally difficult not to think he has the same thing in mind for Pogba. There was an instructive press conference with Mourinho at Chelsea last season, even if he was talking about playmakers, as so many traits seemed applicable to the French international. “I like a number 10 to score goals. I like a number 10 to get in the box. I like a number 10 to score Oscar goal against Maccabi. A number 10 for me is an eight-and-a-half when the team loses the ball, and the number 10 is a nine-and-a-half when the team has the ball.” The point here isn’t that Pogba would necessarily play number-10, although that can’t be ruled out. The point is Mourinho’s emphasis on movement, on power. They are characteristics United’s mostly turgid midfield need above anything, and they are what Pogba provides in abundance. At Juve last season, he dribbled 2.9 times per game - the third most in Serie A - and that was more than anyone at Mourinho’s 2014/15 Chelsea title-winning team, bar Eden Hazard at 4.9. He also offered more interceptions than anyone in that midfield, with 1.3 per game, except Nemanja Matic on two. Pogba will also regularly try his luck from distance, with 3.5 shots per match. Even though Mourinho does have alternative options, it’s still likely he has very specific position in mind for Pogba’s very specific abilities. He really could be key in that sense. United just have to unlock negotiations - or go all in. The money could be truly preposterous, but the reality is it already always some way ludicrous. When you have as many commercial deals as United do, does £20m really make that much of a difference, given it’s a player so desired? Failure to get him could make a real difference to their approach and that is something else United have to get their heads around. https://www.whoscored.com/Articles/xny8asd4v0seujn3vfervq/Show/The-Reasoning-Behind-Uniteds-World-Record-Move-for-Pogba

Bolustic:The elites will rig the election in favour of Hillary. They have all ganged up against Trump. For those who think elections are only rigged in third world countries, they better wake up. |
igbsam:Ok. |
igbsam:So you prefer watching matches on laptop and phones to watching on TV? What about the days network might disappoint you. I know say MTN network get down moments. |
MTN is offering me 3g for 1k on my oldest line. I have had the line since GSM came to Nigeria. But the network is not very steady in my opinion. It gets even weaker at night in my area. |

#BREAKING Skysports Italia are reporting that officials are currently holding a meeting at Juventus HQ and there could be news on Paul Pogba tonight. |
chrisley024:Put a player like Mascherano in the equation. Martinez too. I only used a weak/poor Oshea as an example to show how intelligence kept him in top flight football for many years where he should have been a league 2 player if he were to rely only on his physical abilities. Oshea is far more intelligent than any defender in Manchester United today. The only thing he has is his intelligence, he has no speed, no physical strength. Anyone who can play the DM is intelligent. Luiz is an intelligent guy. How many times have you seen Terry score from outside the box, curl a ball into the far corner, score freekicks like Luiz does? They mostly used their jumping power and heading ability to score from set plays or score from a rebound with their legs. |
