eph12: So you don't believe man United can be dominating and devastating? Mehn LVG really did lot of damages to our psychic.
I understand. We will get there.
We can dominate with direct play. Just like Madrid does or Juventus. It doesn't have to be about keeping possession without threatening opponents. The frequency you get to the opposition box matters. We have improved on that massively already.
parrotibaba: I know that but it will be wrong for some people here to expect us to boss games LVG style, possession, possession, possession, sideways passes, etc.
SIRcumalot: @elampiro thanks for the link. that Shaw penarity soft sha.
After 9 months away due to injury. He needs protection. The most important thing is that there was a contact.
The highlight didn't capture two other good chances we had. Ibrahimovic missed a more simple heading, a free header, I think from Antonio Valencia's good cross. He also failed to connect Martial's through pass, it was like he didn't expect it.
So we are creating chances and there are positives.
parrotibaba: I just de see "we are not dominating games" up and down in this thread. I don't think that Mourinho is interested in dominating games Phee-lo-so-phee or guardiola style, if na wetin people here de expect to happen. His philosophy is winning and defending well, not how much possession you had in a match or how you used your possession play to score a goal. He wants the players to start believing that they can win a match even without playing well, it's all about the wining mentality and I think it's a good thing to happen to our club considering what happened during the last 3 seasons. Of course we will drop points(no be every match you go win) but it's important that those situations are limited if we really want the league title this year. I expect us to play better against so called big teams because of the system that the team plays, the smaller teams are the ones that we should worry about.
The general play will get better. It's still work in progress with a new coach.
Lana1: Na so u go dey lie all in a bid to defend Rooney. Mata was neva dropped from Pks. Even with Rooney on d pitch, Mata played most of our PKs last season. If memory serves me right, Herrera's only PK was against Liverpool last season. While Rooney dint even take a pk last season.
And only some1 who knows nothing go dey take Pre-Season so serious. Rooney is Mourinho's first choice pk taker. He took pk in pre-season but he couldn't take pk in an important league match.......at home abi?? First class Delusions of Grandeur.
Mata was dropped from penalties. Gaal said this. I think that was after the match Mata lost a penalty.
Rooney took the first penalty under Mourinho. Chikena.
Lana1 and dopeJemi, Rooney scored penalties for us last season. He played and scored two penalties. That is what I meant he has been playing penalties for us.
SIRcumalot: am going off what I read on this page didn't watch the game. he should get some goals against Hull.
He was very lively in the second half tearing opposition apart in their final third, but he missed three good chances. He missed one vs one even though he had an option of passing to Ibrahimovic. He was slow to shoot on another occasion. But these things happen, and we know what this lad is capable of. Some guys here may also expect him to score everyday like Messi and Ronaldo.
Lana1: Bros. U think u know, but u know nothing. Rooney was stripped of PK duties after that Liverpool game. Later dat season, we played West Brom at home. They scored and we had a late penalty to draw d game. Van Piersie took the pk. Not Rooney.
Last season, we had one or two pks. One in the ucl against wolfsburg. And another one in the league. Mata took both of em. He scored the first and missed the other. Fact is Rooney has been stripped of pk duties since the Liverpool. And he hasn't played a pk for us in any competitive match since then. Na only for England e dey flex muscle dey take pk.
And u're even mentioning Pre-Season. Are u serious?? Even De Gea can take pk in pre-season. But u'll neva see him take one in an important league game.
Rooney has been kicked off pk duties. However u take it is ur business.
Unnecessary essay.
Rooney, RVP and Mata were all dropped from penalties, and Herrera became our last penalty taker. That was under the former coach, Gaal. Even Gaal said when the next person misses a penalty, the duty goes to another player.
But we have a new coach. Out first penalty under Mourinho was taken by Rooney.
SIRcumalot: things are surely looking up. not too long ago person would have to start scraping the bottom of the barrel to find a way to say something positive about the team.
hopefully marital picks it up soon. he can't afford a sophomore slump to many guys waiting to take that spot.
In my opinion, Martial played well. He was just unlucky not to score.
Lana1: Oh. Really! Selfless indeed. How soon u forget Liverpool vs United. Mata on two goals, Unitef ve a penalty, Mata with his chance to nick a hattrick and yours truly just had to ruin everything and even miss the penalty sef.
Oga no talk shît. Rooney has been dropped from PK duty for more than a year now.
That was Van Gaal's time. Gaal had specific duties for players. Rooney wouldn't have given it to Mata, else he risks the wrath of Gaal.
Rooney has been taking penalties since that time. Rooney even took a penalty in the pre-season.
I don't understand the hate for Rooney. The guy played well.
Mkhitaryan will have his time, the season is very long. I actually struggled to see Mkhitaryan on the pitch until injury time and when Southampton had no hope of coming into the game again.
Pogba is money well spent.
I like Bailly's jumping power, but there is some areas he need to mature.
Valencia and Shaw always tucked in while we are defending with Mata and Martial covering the wide for them. Not too sure we did fine with it, but it was okay to put plenty bodies in the box.
Fellaini was good again. But together with Pogba and Rooney, we will need to 'charge' the opponents harder.
Diademk07: Which excuse? You mean playing with about 7 shite players consisting of inexperienced shite kids in the team is an excuse? That's a real fact on the table.
More so, Kagawa already left the pitch before Alli started dominating us and he was our best player despite playing in a 2-man midfield before he got injured. It was after he left, Mkdons started scoring their goals.
Whatever you say, the fact is Rooney hardly scores nor create chance while pretending to be a no 10. All he does is to play long ball to Valencia while ghosting in to score from the subsequent cross. He's basically a fraud! Better still, a forward but an average one.
Fake excuse. Find another. In the past we played weaker eleven against teams in Carling cup and FA cup and we were never disgraced. Even Moyes played Academy players and still won.
Secondly, Rooney score more from number than number 9. That is his stats. Even when he played behind RVP and Falcao he appeared going to outscore both of them combined until Gaal changed the formation.
Diademk07: Limited passes you say? You know why many people constantly overlooked Blind defensive errors to praise him in his first few matches for us? His visionary passes! His passes was quite good and you call it limited?
Why don't you check the Westham team that played us in the previous game? While I don't think Noble or Nolan are great players, they are respectable midfielders in the league and both were missing in the previous game. There was even Kouyate, the brute who was missing in the previous game as well.
You know I stated that it was only the Roma game he looked good but apart from this, which other games he created chances in the game. I'll make it easy by not asking about him assisting a goal but creating a good chance for his fellow forward, even if the chances were missed.
And stop mentioning any backheel here, that was no chance but him linking up play.
1. Blind is limited in passing compared to Carrick who uses both legs. This is why it is hard for Blind to switch the direction of play.
2. Excuse, Excuse, Excuse.
3. You didn't even know Rooney had an Assist against Roma. I provided it, now you ask for more. How do I remember the chances he created in pre-season games.
I remember I told you he was involved in our first goal against Madrid. Jones the centre back in there man defence passed to Valencia, Valencia to Fletcher who find Rooney who ran into attacking space. Rooney back hill intelligently to Fletcher.... It was a tikitaka move.
Rooney also scored in the final. He was voted best player of the tournament.
Diademk07: Look at our midfield and defence against Mkdons before mentioning the likes of Chicharito, Kagawa played Mkdons.
We had Micheal Keane (our worst player in the pre-season), Reece, half fit Evans, Vermijil in defence, a midfield combo of unfit Ando and Kagawa. Our wings had one Janko and Powell on it while Welbeck and Chicharito led the line. For crying out loud, they are not magicians.
We had nobody to create on the wing nor in the middle while our defence was also rubbish yet I recall Kagawa being our best player with his often forced playmaking through the middle until he got injured and everything fell apart as soon as he left..
As for Rooney, his best form was when he was leading the line to play long ball to Valencia while running forward to nod in the subsequent ball before he got injured. Fergie was constantly alternating between 442 or 433/451 setup and he predominantly used the latter setup in the CL and in big games. Rooney hardly created enough chances for Berbatov who was quite sluggish though.
See your shameful excuse for Welbeck, Chicharito and Kagawa against unknown MK Dons. A team not up to Okomu Oil.
Rooney's best scoring form came in two seasons. 2009/2010 when we played predominantly 4-4-2 and he paired with Bervatov. But we played a different formation in the UCL, mostly 4-3-3. Then his second scoring form was in 2011/2012 when we played 4-2-3-1 mostly with Rooney in the number 10 position. The number of matches we played 4-5-1 should not be up to five, and this was when we used Giggs, Park, Scholes, Carrick to control the midfield.
Diademk07: Lol at replacing Blind with a strong DM when he was the one that made us tick with his passing as soon as he was brought into the team.
He is a liability in the primary function of a DM. He cant shield the defense. He is even limited in his passing. His right foot is non existence, so he is forced to pass mostly to his left, which is why he over laboured Di Maria and got him tired in matches.
Diademk07: He wasn't nimble enough, agile nor defensive aware to be as good as Carrick in the role but his passing and vision were good in that role and was the major reason we looked good going forward, not because of any 442 tactics coupled with the fact that most of the teams we faced were thrash. Teams like QPR and a Westham team with lot of shite players in it.
Worst teams than West Ham had to take points from us when we changed formation, and we were less attactive. Carrick for Blind, problem would have been solved, or buy a good DM in January.
Diademk07: You still haven't told us the chances Rooney created in pre-season?
When did you ask this question and do you expect me to have every detail in my head?
See this Assist from Rooney for Mata's goal against Roma. Remember, Rooney scored the other two goals in our 3-2 win.
I remember I also told you his beautiful back hill pass towards the opening goal vs Madrid. I think it was beautiful exchange of pass between him and Fletcher then to Young for the goal.
Diademk07: Cut it out already, Young was our creative player in the pre-season. When Rooney was supposed to be the SS in the pre-season, he was acting as the forward while putting the bulk on Welbeck; but with another true forward player in Rvp in front of the sluggish Rooney in the league, everything went into chaos.
You know what? The thing with Rooney is he's a forward but an average one pretending to be no 10/SS. Forget all his stupid pass to the wing as a SS. He knows as a forward, he's no elite and that why he loves disguising as a 10/SS behind another forward to divert any attention from himself, only to burst through and surprise the opposition to score goals.
The only time he looked good as an no 9 was when he was making long ball to Valencia on the wing while running forward to get the subsequent crosses from Valencia. And that's why he was never and will never be the main man in any of our title win.
As for the 442 tactic, we were up against poor teams in most of the matches. Also, Madrid 1st half team wasn't a strong one.
You are very confused. Welbeck, Chicharito led the line against MK Dons with Kagawa playing behind them. What happened?
In our league matches against Burnley and Sunderland, Welbeck came on for RVP in both matches. How come nothing changed.
In terms of Rooney leading the line in 2009/2010, he was a co striker with Bervatov. We lost the league to a number of factors. Injury to Rooney in Munich which he never really recovered from till end of the season. The whole team was badly hit with injury too. SAF having to rest players against Chelsea in a crucial match and Drogba scored from a clear offside which decided the season.
Rooney is primariry number 10. That is where he has played most in his career and scored most of his goals like 2011/2012 when he played behind Chicharito and Welbeck. But he is not a number 10 like you want him to be. If he gains form this season, you will understand his kind of ten and how a number 10 can score plenty goals.
That Madrid match, there first half was there strongest line up based on fitness. Ronaldo only played the last 16 minutes and was giving the ball away.
Diademk07: There's no diversion here. My first post was how the slow toads of Rvp and Rooney made the 352 look rubbish only for you to come up with 'Rooney was our best player in the pre-season'
And I'll always talk about how the 2 sluggish mofos looked without our "reliable inform lovely playmaker'' (Young) in the league. Lol!
Why don't you tell us the chances Rooney created in the pre-season?
3-5-2 (3-4-1-2)is rubbish. The formation that was going to work well was 4-3-1-2
Di Maria and Herrera in the sides of the diamond midfield. Mata or Rooney in the hole. RVP with Falcao/Rooney in attack. The only problem was Blind in the DM. We played attractive football with this formation. The problem is Gaal not sticking to a working formation. He only needed a strong body to replace Blind in the DM position.
Diademk07: Madrid had Nacho in defence, Illara in midfield, Carvajal/Modric on the wing while Isco and Bale were the front 2 in their starting line-ups. Is that a strong team?
Apart from the goals, Rooney was abject. His job as the SS was rubbish. So was Mata who was the designated playmaker. Their duties were taken over by Welbeck and Young respectively in the games. Imagine a makeshift wingback, especially an inconsistent sick-note as Young being our best creative player?
It's no coincidence that the team eventually faltered in the league while depending on slow mofos like Rooney, Rvp and Mata.
Rooney’s beautiful back hill was the highlight to our first goal. So how do you mean only Welbeck and Young were doing the creative job. Even the second goal, Rooney's made an attempt to head Young's cross, but he missed narrowly and the ball went in straight. There was a question as to whether Rooney got a touch.
Welbeck was even substituted just before half time due to injury.
Young may have done better in the Madrid game, but Rooney was the overall best player considering his performance across all matches.
Lastly, we played our most attractive football when we played the diamond midfield with Rooney/Mata in the hole, and RVP with Rooney/Falcao in the striking positions. But when we lost to Leicester, Gaal felt we were over run in midfield then he removed Blind and Di Maria from midfield, instead of only Blind who was the weak DM. That was the start of our dull football under Gaal.
Lest I forget, that Madrid line up was very strong.
Diademk07: His role as a SS was not only to score goal but to add creativity and linkup the play in the final third which he failed to do. It was Welbeck that consistently did that. Even Chicharito did his part as opposed to Rooney.
We had to depend on our fullbacks, esp. Young putting in crosses and once he got injured or went off form in the main league matches, we were back to square 1 with 2 sluggish toads in Rvp and Rooney finalised by another useless one in Mata.
And Rooney was no best player on the pitch vs Pool, Sterling was. Rooney only got the man of the match because he scored 2 tap-ins, one got cancelled though.
How does Van Persie come into this preseason when he didn't even participate. Stop diversion.
Rooney was the most creative in the tournament. He won the best player mostly because of his creativity than his goals. Rooney was giving great passes from the deep, even releasing Mata, Welbeck, etc to go one vs one on several occasion. There were times we were held in our half in matches, odds were against us, and it was Rooney who brought inspiration with either scoring stunner from outside of the box or starting a great counter or pinging long rage passes which freed Mata, Valencia, Welbeck. He also had good understanding with Mata, Welbeck and Young in the final third.
Even his goal against Liverpool in the final which you want to rubbish is not an easy goal to score. His worst enemy, Coogar, wrote thus: Rooney doesn’t always score but scores great goals.
Diademk07: That's not true. The likes of Roma and Madrid fielded their best players in the second half. I remembered Pjanic and Ronaldo coming in the second half.
The galaxy game for example, the team was dire in the first half despite the 3 goals scored until the introduction of Kagawa who was putting Herrera in lot of good position with his passes before Herrera's through balls. Don't forget Kagawa was the CM in that match.
The only match I remembered Rooney playing well was the Roma game 1st half game.
Ronaldo was not fit, he was coming back from injury, hence the coach fielded the fit players.
Our best time was when we played Rooney, Valencia, Mata and Young. The last 30 minutes, we always lost shape with those kids.
It was not hard to know Rooney was the best player in matches. May be I should even search for reports. But you will again say it is British papers. Even on this thread, people praised Rooney despite heavy criticism against him months before.
Diademk07: You don come with your British report again?
Which Liverpool match are you even talking about? That controversial match where a penalty wasn't awarded to Liverpool? Or a cross that sailed out for goal before it got cancelled?
Not to talk of the fact that we looked quite poor in the first half when Liverpool should have scored plenty while the likes of Sterling and Coutinho terrorised us throughout.
The scoreline didn't even tell the story.
You have come with your useless conspiracies against the English press. Na English press award Rooney best player of the tournament?
I saw it with my eyes. This is why I think you don't watch matches.
Again Rooney was second highest goal scorer in the tournament and gave a superb performance throughout. Even if you want to say Liverpool had a better play in the final, Rooney was still the best player on the pitch.
Again Rooney was by far United highest goal scorer from the LA Galaxy game to the final game against Valencia. So whether he played as a second striker as you mentioned earlier is imaterial.
Diademk07: Just scoring goals? when he was the second striker? Lol!
The fact that most of our chances came from Young and Welbeck or Kagawa whenever he came on tells a lot. We hardly create chances with Rooney and Mata on the pitch. All we see is Welbeck either taking long shot and getting busy or Young putting in crosses as a wingback when we should be creating through the middle.
Even Chicharito was creating chances for your lump of wood in that controversial Liverpool game.
This finally tells that it's you who didn't watch the match if you actually responded to my first post of "RVp and Rooney looking like dunderheads in the 352 tactic because Rvp didn't play in the pre-season and one sluggish toad in Rooney was enough already let alone having 2 in Rvp and Rooney.
Our best play was usually when Rooney, Mata and Valencia were on the pitch. And that was also when the opposition fielded their strongest team.
The last 30 minutes when opposition had removed their first team players was when Chicharito, Kagawa played and their sub standard performance was still obvious.
See screenshot from wikipedia. Look at the bottom part of the second attachnent.
It looks to me you don't watch matches and don't follow events, you rather make up stories from your brain as it suits your agenda (your Gaal's support agenda).
The players who impressed were Rooney, Valencia, Mata and Young. Lingard also showed great performance.
Diademko7 below is a link for you. Wayne Rooney has been named man of the match and player of the tournament. He wins a fishing trip to Lake Michigan and lifetime gold card for Taco Bell.
His only good performance was vs Roma team. Young was our best player in that pre-season followed by Welbeck.
Against Real madrid for example, Welbeck was our best player in the first half and once he went off, the team looked drab. We weren't creating much after the first goal BTW.
In fact our 2nd goal was through a lucky cross that sailed into the net. Not until Kagawa, Lingard and Chicharito introduction did the team start to look like scoring plenty of goals!
You on the other hand should stop watching Rooney performances through his highlight goals, watch the whole match or at least, all his touches!
Rooney was voted player of the tournament. And deserdly so. Even Rooney's enemy on this thread at the time agreed he hit form and said he could hit near 30 goals if he went into the season with same form.
Diademk07: Top coach rarely deploy 442 nowadays except they have a player like Keane or Kante in midfield to prevent the midfield from being overrun and pacey forwards to help out.
Considering only 442 or 352 could accommodate the 2 waste bags of Rooney and Rvp, Van gaal chose the lesser evil.
352 tactic with the right players is the best tactic ever for me. We all saw the Italian team with such tactic doing so much like advancing to the Euro final in 2012 or performing well in the recent euro despite having little quality in the team. How about the average Holland team that won the 3rd place final. Even Pep often operates similar tactic because the tactic ensures more numbers in the defence and in the midfield thereby tapering over the little quality in those department.
The fact that we had 2 sluggish shitheads in Rvp and Rooney as the main front 2 was the major problem. The tactic looked great vs Madrid in the pre-season with the pacy Chicharito and Zaha leading the line for example.
Hence, blame your bae, Rooney for stinking the whole place.
Did you watch the pre-season then? Rooney was the player of the tournament.
Chicharito and Zaha were far behind Rooney and Mata in performance. It looks like, truly, you watch matches from livescores.
