Mourinholic:Nothing is too far nothing is too near. You either have the trophy or you don't have it. Stop saying SAF won by luck. |
ollah1:No, those we really lost. But the ones we were ousted in questionable circumstances |
Mourinholic:Paul Scholes disallowed goal in Porto. Rafael's red card. Nani's red card. SAF could easily have won 5. |
codedguy1:When Darmian first came I supported him over Valencia. I thought may be we had an Azpilicueta. |
raumdeuter:You didn't know what laws were there in bringing non-British. We are arguing this 20 years after and haven't all the facts. After the restriction was lifted, SAF brought in 5 new players the next season, only Teddy Sherigham was British. He allowed about 8 players to leave, all British. The next season he brought in only non English players. So I wonder if there were also laws which made this impossible before 1995. |
"He [Darmian] gives too much space on Tadic in my opinion and Tadic was the most dangerous man,”van Gaal said.“That is why I have changed him andValencia did very well – I didn’t see Tadic anymore in the second half.” Gaal, after Southampton's game. |
PietroRico:You may not have noticed but it's a true assessment I have given you. There is a difference/variation in 'give me I give you' from player to player. Valencia, Jones and Young are better on the ball in their feet in our own third/half than Darmian. Darmian is not comfortable on the ball when passed to him, he wants it out of his feet quickly. He is a little better when he gets it in the opposition half and there's is space. There are some passes released too soon and too safe, to the back. There are many things. When Val or Jones wins a tackle you are never again going to win the ball back from them until they utilize it, but Darmian loses. When you talk about going forward, he is also very very weak at it. |
Darmian also struggled against Wolfsburg when his wing was our weakness on the night. In the second half, Wolfsburg almost killed us through that left wing. He also was poor against Midlesbro in Capital1 cup. He struggled against Palace and was taken off for Ashley Young. These are the ones I can still remember. After his first month, he has been struggling. |
PietroRico:He has been poor beginning from the game away to PSV. The next game against Southampton he was the reason the game was deadlock until Valencia came on at half time. After then he has had mixture of good and bad. His best in recent time has even come from the left side, but he's never going to displace Rojo from there. In all, he is poor in ball retention. He is not a good passer too, he does give me and give you back (with panic). When he wins a tackle he is not comfortable on the ball and allows the opponents to recover to close him down on the ball. |
PietroRico:Does he even do his primary job well even as a right back? Even football has gone past the time full backs just win the ball and throw a long ball forward. Darmian is limited in passing and ball retention. |
Arsene is sounding childish and ridiculous. |
We are not thin in attack (striking). Memphis has a new position. Memphis is now a striker. |
SIRcumalot:I know Darmian could come good if he developrd his attacking play. It's only painful that we have come to a period where those who aren't playing well should be substituted but we haven't the alternative due to injuries. Not only Darmian, everyone who is not playing well should be substituted or benched going forward. The grace period has past. |
weedtaker:The whole thing is complicated given the fact he was given money to spend, and he actually has spent £200m. But all these criticism will go away should he win all his fixtures to New Year. But the problem is the injuries because players like Darmian won't take us any where. |
Manchester United's stars are reportedly becoming bored of Louis Van Gaal 's training methods. Former Old Trafford stars-turned-pundits Roy Keane , Paul Scholes, Gary Neville Rio Ferdinand, Owen Hargreaves and Michael Owen have all taken pot shots at the Dutchman for his possession-based approach. And it appears his training sessions at their Carrington headquarters have also come in for criticism from members of his squad. A club insider told The Sun : "They are unhappy, it is just like Groundhog Day at the club. No matter whether they win, lose or draw nothing changes. "Every Monday they know what they are doing, every Tuesday they know what they are doing, every day they know what they are doing. "There is nothing different or exciting to look forward to and it is getting some players down." [Source: The Sun] |
Raumdeuter, you are talking like you don't know how powerful the law is. (1) Law ensured there was no discrimination against workers or restriction in number of workers of UK citizens within the territory. (2) European court of Justice through the Bosman ruling ensured discrimination against workers of members States, restrictions in the the number of hires of citizens of members States were prohibited/removed. In this case football clubs were mandated to allow players the choice to walk away once their transfer was over. Secondly, players of European citizens could move from one club to another in numbers without any restrictions in number of players that can be employed by a club. So the almighty Eufa bowed to court ruling, and you think English clubs/FA should have disobeyed the laws of their land? |
ollah1:25 years. Remove 5 years ban. Remaining 20 years. Remove those years English teams had to reshuffle their team when they went to Europe. We are looking at minimum of 7 years here because even after the restriction was lifted in 1995, the clubs couldn't have changed their teams in just a year. Remaining 13 years for SAF to really compete in Europe. |
raumdeuter:Those Eufa laws would be hard to implement in UK because of the nature of the territory which had been before football came into the world. One fact is that only English teams had to shuffle their first team when they went to play in Europe. And it was a big problem bringing none UK citizens to further compound the problem. |
David de Gea has revealed that capturing the Premier League title in the 12/13 season is still the greatest moment of his Manchester United career. In what turned out to be Sir Alex' last season as Manchester United boss, United won the league in dominant fashion and De Gea received a winners’ medal for his efforts in guarding their goal. When asked to identify the greatest moment of his Manchester United career, De Gea told the club’s official website: “When we won the league – that was a really special moment. The greatest thing about Man Utd is the clubs history, the greats that have represented this team and the fans are incredible too." De Gea also identified a save he made in the 2011/12 season as his best to date. He pulled off a stunning save against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a 3-3 draw. “The one from Juan Mata against Chelsea – the save from the free-kick in February 2012.” |
raumdeuter:You said they announced it when 1995 season was about to start. Anyway, English team were simply saying, their govt law didn't restrict players/workers from anywhere in UK because of common Labour law (perhaps). Their FA probably were unable to implement the Eufa restriction because of a government law. So the clubs were torn in the fight between their govt and Eufa. |
raumdeuter:I read that the laws were not there in the 70s. The UK already had a system before Eufa brought their laws. The government of the entire UK economy was more important than football. It's just like having a free trade and free movement in West Africa. It's like saying you as a club cannot discriminate against players from Wales, Ireland and Scotland. And that's Queen's law. So your hands are tied. |
raumdeuter:The law that three foreign players had to play, did it start in 1994/1995 season as you try to make us believe? I want to believe the law was already effective, but it always favored other leagues which had a similar law with Eufa. But English league couldn't make a similar laws because of the common ground in UK as a whole. So it was hard bringing quality players from outside UK due to the British laws which favored their people but hostile to foreigners particularly non Europeans. What am I saying. Teams from other leagues didn't have to reshuffle their team when they play in Europe. But English team will have so much changes to make because many first team players wouldn't be eligible due to difference in laws. |
raumdeuter:You can see for yourself how English teams were disadvantaged because of internal Labour laws. So United could have 5 English, 5 other UK players, 1 non UK player as regular XI in the league, then on European nights United will be forced to source 3 more English players from reserve or Academy to play Europe. It could be worse if the regular bench is made up of players from Wales, Scotland, Ireland . |
raumdeuter:It's a disadvantage because it was only English teams who had first team regular players who were eligible to play Premier League but ineligible to all play in European matches. |
Dadehmola:They parked the bus against Barca na. United had a very swift transition of the ball from defence to attack. We were the only ones who could have easily beaten them. The Inter Milan team we beat a year before was almost as strong. They had Ibrahimovic at the time. They were feared until they met us. We were so good that year 2010 that we were going to win in Germany then injury played it's part. They were still lucky the cross bar prevented Vidic rocket header from going in. Soon after they scored us. |
raumdeuter:So United would use there non UK foreigners, then forced to compulsorily dropped first team members who came from Wales, Scotland and Ireland. How could the team play with a good rhythm when the first team had been distorted? Take for instance, you are forced to drop Irwin and Giggs because you already have chosen other three foreigners. |
raumdeuter:We are getting somewhere. I don't know much of the Labour laws in UK or England. But it looks like there was a free movement of players withing the UK which meant English teams had like nearly half of their players from other parts of UK. So take for example, the Leeds team that won the league in 1991/1992 season, when they had to play in Europe, they will be forced to select only 2 out of about 8 players from Wales and Scotland. Plus Cantona the required three is complete. The rest first team members would not be qualified to be even on the bench in Champion League games. These were the disadvantages SAF faced. |
raumdeuter, I will like you to see this. Did Bosman help Manchester United win the Champions League? British clubs pre-Bosman found themselves at a huge disadvantage in European competitions, because Uefa decreed that Welsh and Scottish players counted as foreigners under their "three-plus-two" rule. That meant that United, for example, had to make wholesale changes to their normal line-up when playing in Europe - most memorably when Alex Ferguson brought English goalkeeper Gary Walsh in for the Danish Peter Schmeichel in the 4-0 thrashing by Barcelona in 1994-5. When clubs were suddenly freed to play all the EU players they wanted, Sir Alex Ferguson was at last able to play his first-choice XI in Europe. Only five of the 13 players who featured in United's 1999 Champions League final win over Bayern Munich were English. Before the Bosman ruling, that team could never have set foot on the pitch. .............. |
raumdeuter:The foreign players in Leeds, were they not from Scotland, Wales and Ireland, apart from may be Cantona? I remember very well English teams were angry with Eufa for counting players from other parts of United Kingdom as foreigners, so they couldn't use all their players in Europe. English FA and authorities didn't see players from other parts of UK as foreigners as such, but work permit was made very difficult from players from other parts of the world, particularly outside Europe. All these made the league to be substandard and restricted the coaches in English league. |
Dadehmola:Did you know by how many goals we dismissed AC Milan that season? Without Rafael's red card and Rooney's injury we would have won it. We were comfortable even against Bayern until Rooney started limping. We had Valencia, Nani, Vidic, Ferdinand who were playing some real world class football at the time. |
raumdeuter:I am not talking about the number of foreigners featured in a team. I am talking about welcoming of foreigners to a league which ultimately affected the standard of the league. English league was not welcoming to foreign players until mid or late 1990s. Compare that with Laliga and Serie A. I will be back much later, hopefully. |
ollah1:Now this guy sounds like 1025. |
