streetzdreamz: bless you, this was all I was asking about, yea people don't get executed like in the 80's the judge just passes his damn judgement and the culprit rots away in the cell for years, some ends up getting some state pardon while most dies in the cell, after spending years waiting for their execution, why not give them a jail term instead of a death sentence that won't materialize, the other day a judge in Ogun state jailed a woman for donkey years, have forgotten the exact number of years cuz it wasn't a life sentence, the judge himself can never outlive the span,so what's the essence of such stupid laws and verdicts?still waiting for the day a corrupt government official will be given a dose of what the law actually says, until then, this country is just a huge joke. If an armed-robber is convicted and the successive governors showed lienency by not signing his execution, such a robber should just make up his mind he is serving a life sentence. |

I think death sentence is the only verdict. However most don't get killed like before when we had military regimes or in the 1980s. The governor usually has to sign the execution. |

"It was already in the media – Rojo has been injured," the boss told MUTV during his pre-match interview at the Aon Training Complex on Friday. "It’s his shoulder, the same as last year, in a training session. It’s very unfortunate, also in the position of Luke Shaw, so I have a great problem. "Also the injury of Wayne Rooney is more heavy [serious] than we thought, so neither can play. That’s it I think. Jesse Lingard is coming back which is good news. Phil Jones is still injured so we have six injuries." Quizzed further on Rooney, van Gaal said: "It’s a nasty injury. It’s been getting worse but we have to let him train to make the ankle stronger, that’s very important. I cannot say [how long he's out for] because the doctor shall decide that with Wayne of course. He is training well in the rehabilitation." The boss later suggested the skipper will also miss the vital Champions League clash in Wolfsburg on Tuesday, saying he thinks the England striker will remain unavailable. Van Gaal also confirmed Ander Herrera is still injured and will not face West Ham. Antonio Valencia is United's other absentee as the Ecuador international continues to recover from recent foot surgery. With Rojo and Shaw both injured, leaving United with a shortage of left-backs, the manager was asked whether he will field three centre-backs like he did at Leicester last weekend. "It’s dependable on the opponent," the Dutchman said. "It’s also dependable on the shape of the players, I have to compare." |

And you have chosen to resort to insult? What do you mean that I comprehension problem? Why not just try to clarify yourself? Rich men too still go to jail. Infinitikoncept: As long as this write up is concerned none of such was said. Its a case of stealing. If he was a murderer then ni one will pity him on this thread It's a case of armed-robbery which attracts death sentence once proven. Whether there was killing in the case or not. Every robber would claim they have never killed before if the operation they were caught didn't involve killing. So the law says whether you killed before, killed now or have never killed , once you put a gun on your fellow citizen to disposes him of his goods, it's death sentence. On the other issue you raised, this robber confessed to joining a gang when he first went to prison. He's going to prison for the second time. He's hardened. |

streetzdreamz: perfect,in Indonesia drug trafficking attracts a death penalty, irrespective of your gender, nationality, status,or believes, the law stands its grounds, that's a sane law!!!now if our law holds the same grounds for crimes, robbery, stealing, murder, rape, any crime whatsoever that poses a threat to human lives, attracts a death penalty, and this judgement is carried out irrespective of the age, status, tribe, nationality, gender and all other things, then it would be a just and sane law,our law in this country ain't a just law,as it condemns only its helpless, poor citizens a C.P once told me how this sh*ts works,a wealthy mans son commits murder and the case is brought forward to him,the next day he gets an alert or some land papers, the culprit goes free, thesame would have been the fate of this man,if he had some powerful means behind him, this ain't justice, the law is no respecter of anyone, but in this country the law respects the rich and that ain't just, an unjust law aint no law at all! This is no excuse to be involved in armed-robbery or support an armed-robber. A robber can be killed on the spot by SARs squad or even mob action. It's always a dangerous crime. Lastly, the magistrate is not concerned about cases killed at police station, he looks at cases brought to the his court and evidence submitted. The magistrate has a career to protect too. He also has to protect the society. Sometimes too, all the money in the world don't help at the police station. So why even commit? |

This Judge though arghn arghn, worse comes to worst he should just serve jail terms and community services What's the difference between a murder case and an armed-robbery case? Armed robbery is premeditated. Murder might just come from sudden provocation or even sometimes unintended. Armed robbery is even more serious. Anyone who left his home with a gun to rob is ready to kill when provoked. Again the law has always been clear armed-robbery. So why do people take such risk? |

Ojayk: A crime that was commited in 2003 is being given a judgement in december 2015, why was this man's judgement delayed uptill today? shouldnt the judiciary take blame for delaying judgement? the guy choose to defend himself probably because he cant afford a lawyer and dosent trust the government lawyer to aid him out. he may have confessed out of the truma and phsycological toture expirenced over his long stay in awaiting trial status. is death by hanging the only option before the biased judge for such a crime? what is the difference between him and others returning billions of naira secretly to PMB? this to me is an unfair judgement considering the time of the act, time of judgement delivery, the type of judgement given to the man, the amount involved etc the judge should have taken into consideration of the failure of the judiciary to dispense justice on time, the amount involved vis-a-vis what is happening in our society before giving such crystal clear biased judgement. that guy i believe must be a product of a failled society in which those that plundered the society are being rewarded with No prosecution and even minsterial appointment. the man cant even appeal going by his economic condition the death of that man would be one this nation would not forget in a hurry. That's what we read is newspaper report. There are many gaps in the report. If we had a good report capturing most of the record of precedings, we could make a better analysis of the case. However, his confession was not out of trauma from long stay in awaiting trial as you claimed, considering his confessional statement to the police. Again, 2003 is when he committed the crime, not when he was sent to the court. We haven't all the details. Considering he went to prison before, I am thinking perhaps the first time they helped him and dismissed the case, then when he committed more robberies, the prosecutor decided to nail him finally by consolidating all the files. Just guessing here. May be may be not. |

Does pleading guilty in Nigerian law not grant the Perp any leniency during sentencing?
Ekiti Judges sha.. I don't think he pleaded guilty before the magistrate. I think he confessed to the crime in his statement to the Interrogating Officer at the Police. His refusal to get a lawyer compounded it all. So why are you angry he confessed? That's his headache. He knew the implication because he had been to prison before. His family people are obviously tired of him and they have since abadoned him. repogirl: He isn't a murderer, he is an armed robber....big difference. If he killed someone, then he would be a murderer.
In developed countries, the death penalty is reserved for people who kill without remorse... Most times for no defendable reason at all.
This sentence is too harsh. That's not the law. The law says when one is caught robbing with a gun, etc. The reason is that you wouldn't know if he had killed in an operation before. He could also have killed in the operation he was captured if he was provoked or the person didn't cooperate. What was he doing with a gun in the first place? Owing a gun is 7 years imprisonment. Using it to operate is death sentence. Whether the person kills or not because the intention cannot fully be judged. Here we have this person confessing to many robberies, as well as seven witnesses (victims) coming to testify against him. |

queenfav: That's why I say the accused was acting upon a curse from home. Why on earth would he decide to defend himself. Was he a lawyer in his former life?Besides if the accused insists on defending himself, the court cannot force a lawyer on him.The judge will only put it on record to show that the accused made that choice voluntarily, and oblige his request. The state compulsorily provides a lawyer for the accused where he cannot afford one.In this case the accused decided that he was going to defend himself. The judge could have persuaded him though, letting him know what is at stakes. But again, when you meet some stubborn accused persons, you'll understand. They are self so distructive that they won't even follow your legal counsel. At the end it backfires, then they start saying 'had I known'. I think he left the prosecutor and the judge no choice. First he said he went to prison before, from where he joined a gang of robbers. Secondly, he confessed to have been involved in series of robberies which means he is a hardened criminal. Thirdly, the prosecutor was able to bring 7 witnesses against him. Seven! Haba! You people still pity someone who robbed 7 different people? People should look beyond the amount. Robbering is the worst form of crime. When one faces a robber, one's life is at his mercy until the operation is ended. Why should someone possess a gun at all, then used the gun to disarm another person of his belongings. |

He was armed, probably with a gun or any other deadly weapon therefore must be executed unless he's granted amnesty. You're the first person who posted like someone who is enlightened.
It's not about the money. It's about possessing a gun and using it to rob people. He could have shot and kill someone at the slightest provocation from his victims.
He even confessed he went to prison before and from there he joined a gang of armed robbers. The prosecutor brought several witnesses. This means he has robbed many people.
People don't know what it means to robb with a gun. With a gun you can command a group of people. You can rape at will, etc. If he was caught with a firearm it's a small case that ends with maximum 7 years imprisonment. But if you use arm to robb people which endanger lives, then no pity. He didn't sound like a first time offender because he had been to prison before. |
