I remember NTA Benin 7pm news and NTA 9pm news, we glued to TV everyday from when he was arrested to when he was executed. I was in primary school then. There was great fear in the whole state before he was arrested.

I remember too another armed robber I witnessed his execution. Our headmaster closed school at about 9am and marched everyone to the public field to witness the execution. It was announced the previous night on NTA Benin that the armed robber would be brought for execution at about 11am.

While on the field, the black army van drove in and the armed robber jumped down. The force with which he was tied to a stake shielded behind by drums filled with sand was enough horror in itself. Two soldiers pulling the ropes with force around him, putting one of their legs on the stake to ensure the rope is so tightly tied.

Then followed the brief press interview of the robber. Then the prayer by an Iman, he refused the prayer of a priest. Finally five soldiers marched and took firing position. Then the command from their boss 'fireee'. Only the middle soldier in red beret actually did the firing.

Then the end of a man. A man who once was a new baby people gathered to celebrate his coming to mother earth. Now lifeless from firing squad execution with piece of rice from his busted stomach spilled on the field.

I went home very very sad and weak as I felt pity for him. He was a man that was probably in his 40s.

I am not happy about this. He was gradually becoming a beast on the right side. Now we won't get to see Young on the left wing again. Young too is prone to injury. Darmian and Jones cannot carry the ball to attacking zone with pace and flair.

Rooney has been One of my favorite since 2004..
My favorite united player of all time
Beck, Giggs, Scholes, 20LEgend, Nistelrooy, Rooney, Ronaldo in that order..
Currently, Rooney is utter crap unless he improves is goal scoring record or assist in Crucial match..

Don't tell us about UCL qualifier against Brugge cos even if it ends 0-0 we will still qualify

Anyone can play 9. Who shines today might not shine tomorrow. There is room for rotation and game plan.

Saha, Tevez, Macheida, Berbatov, Chicha, RVP, Falcao, have all been our 9, but Rooney still had a few games there.

Afrodoc2, the point you are missing is that Rooney played in the number 10 in last two matches. So why are you saying he should play as 10?

Martial led the line vs CSKA.

The point is we can not afford sitting on our hands and watching Rooney score 1 goal from August to December again while a better option like Martial is played out of position! We are chasing titles this season and it is going to be very tight at the top.

Let Rooney move to 10 and lets see, if he does not stink up that position too he can keep his place but if he rubbish there too let us try Mata or Herrera or Perreira there.

You can't keep playing average or rubbish and expect to keep your shirt while other boys come in play as well or even better and get sent back to the bench or are shunted to one side.

Mata,Herrera,Martial,Young and Lingaard have been better than Rooney this season. Rooney and Depay have been our worst attacking players this season.

Rooney wasn't playing as 9 that season. And I am not saying he must play as 9.

My point is that the coaches know they had to keep him in form for the run in. Luckily he is scoring better this season.

In 2010/2011 Rooney scored 1 goal in his first 14 games yet SAF kept playing him even under serious criticism.

Rooney scored 2 goals in his first 18 games.

Well it appears we are in agreement that Rooney should compete with Herrera for the no 10 spot while Martial plays on top.
In the best of worlds i would like Mata to move to compete with Rooney for the 10 position while Herrera drops down to compete with Schweinsteiger in CM while Carrick is a sub for MorganS. That way we have Lingaard,Young,Depay on the wings.

The way this team is built and taught we will have possession advantage (even with Rooney at 10) against all but the best teams, now what we need is pace n penetration at the 9 and on the wings and Rooney can't give us that

January - May
Rooney scored 14 goals.

I remember he was being criticized that season but SAF kept playing him. SAF also said recently that you have to keep playing Wayne Rooney to get to his level. The criticism then wasn't any different than now particularly following his poor world cup.

LOL. U like to generalize without reason. I have always tried to be fair and objective in my criticisms here , that is why i usually steer clear of the Rooney v RVP and other Rooney arguments you and Coogar inundate this thread with.

Last season i said i wanted Rooney and RVP both out preferably with RVP going first. I am not a Rooney hater but i am a Manchester United fan and i believe Rooney is drawing us back.Paul Ince, Mark Hughes and Kanchelskis were not this bad before SAF bounced them for fresher legs.

In Lingaard,Martial,Depay,Wilson and Adnan we have fresher and faster legs that can make our possession game pay off....we just need pace in attack. I am not saying all these young players will make it at United but we need players of that ilk (young,hungry with PACE AND PAWA) to take our attack to the next level. Rooney is not young, always looks overfed,lacks pace and has little pawa left

Gaal has a reason for playing him, and it's beginning to pay off.

We have only two players who when in form can help us with a lot of goals. Rooney and Martial. You cannot drop either of these two.

Particularly, Rooney is the one for the manager to get into form for us to have great games against such teams as Madrid, Barca etc. Experience matters.

The last 6 months is far more important than first 3 months of a league. When the going gets tough those young legs might let you down.

I am talking about the fact that Rooney looks slower and less agile than i have ever seen him.....and he is not injured or anything like that. He just looks OLD. He is not getting on to potential through passes because he lacks the pace to leave defenders for dead.

Rooney did well and played smartly in the last game. He did everything rightly until late in the second half when he appeared tired.

His run for the pass he gave to Mata shows he can still be very fast and pacing. That speed was unimaginable. A run that could have been expected from a top too striker. He also picked passes between lines like the one he gave to Schweinsteiger. He moved the ball forward driving some yards, not just relying on square passes.

My take is that Gaal is not a fool to play him.
