So we had 2 players in the hole?

Guy stop yarning dust.

Fabregas made almost all his assists in the first half of the season playing in pivot with Matic while Oscar was in the hole.

After Spurs disgraced us 5-2 in January, Mourinho saw our midfield was overrun and started playing Zouma in the midfield in the big games, dropping Oscar. The midfield shape changed to a 3 and Fabregas stopped assisting from that period, hardly.recording assists till season end. Costa also stopped scoring. From then we relied on winning games by single.goals with Hazard often providing the difference.

Fabregas has never played hole for Chelsea, simples.
Even after shoring evidence? Ok, you read below: Also, Osca started only 26 matches and Chelsea played only 4-2-3-1. Mourinho clearly stated that time two players were being used (alternated) in the hole. If I remember well, he also said it when he came to United. You just like to argue.

.......................................
Both teams played in 4-2-3-1 formations. For Chelsea, the young Courtois started on goal. A familiar back 4 started the match, with Ivanovic being more adventurous in his forward movements (especially off of goalkicks from Chelsea). As the #6s for Chelsea Matic and Ramires started, with Ramires having a vertical role. This comes quite naturally to him as he seems to have infinite stamina and loves getting up and down the field. Ahead of them, the new signing Cesc Fabregas played as the #10. Cesc very often dropped deep to build play. On the right Willian started. Willian had quick & long movements when dropping into the interior areas of the field for buildup, he gave Chelsea a different and quicker rhythm when on the ball. Hazard played on the left looking to move inside from wide areas and use his dribbles and quickness to create. Up front started the new signing for Chelsea, Diego Costa. He had a huge workrate both offensively and defensively. He looked to make diagonal runs from the center towards either side, providing a fast vertical outlet and some creativity as well.

Fabregas was used in double pivot. He never played hole. Even on the odd occasion, he played in 3 man midfield, it was not in the hole.
But I watched him na. He and Oscar played there.

If you play 11 girls against Manchester United, and we win 50 corner kicks, the girls will defend them with ease. Our corner kicks are waste. 80% of our set plays target Maguire, and he too forming Vidic but has not his heading prowess. We should just allow opponents continue with goal kicks instead of our wasted corner kicks no one can head. Smalling was the last who made effort to score from corner kicks.

England has always done well when it comes to qualifiers where they get to play those lowly rated teams but whenever they have come up against a half decent team, they have struggled...Reason? A dysfunctional sysyem, poor midfielders topped with a clueless manager...
I thought I saw them beat Germany this year sef.

To me, one thing that instill fear is your scoring ability. We were simply much more clinical with Rodaldo, Tevez, Rooney. With Giggs, Park, etc, we had better decision making. Those abilities when combined won us matches we would have otherwise drawn or lost. And when opponents know you are clinical, they fear to attack you.

Just remember some of our old goals. Rooney providing for Ronaldo's second against Inter Milan which ended Mourinho boast. It was just Rooney's foresight, understanding with Ronaldo, and Ronaldo's pefection in the air. Also the way we pulled one back against Roma in Italy playing ten men. Rondlao, Oleg and finally Rooney chest take down. Our attackers are very poor in decision making, weight of pass, can't head like we had before.

Our players don't make the right run in the box. The attackers don't try to find themselves in the air because they cannot head. They only play on the ground and everyone knows United has no player with heading accuracy.

Why does Sterling struggle with England? Don't forget that in attack, England prides the likes of Kane and Sancho who are top of their game at their respective clubs?
Sterling is always England one of best attacking players. Although I have not watched much of them this year.

Only one or two players will change the whole team.

If you find a player like Robben/Salah in his prime to play from our right or Silva in his prime to play our number 10, you will begin to see huge improvement. Just think how difficult it was to stop Robben or Ribery. Even when the ball is in a tight corner, Ribery would very likely drive forward along the line than reverse. Our players now, it is so so reverse.

Martial is not a poor finisher in my opinion. I am certain Rashford and Martial will do well if placed in that City team.
They are not good footballer as those guys in that City team. Guadiola takes time to buy complete footballers.

Lukaku scored for West Brom and Everton but he had issues here...Martial was rated very highly at Monaco but he can't seem to deliver here...Sanchez came here and flopped...You can honestly say Sanchez and Lukaku were not good enough as they were already tearing the league before joining us. Everything points to the fact that very good attackers struggle when they join us, why? A dysfunctional system first and then lack of quality from the supporting cast...
Sanchez was finished before he came.

Using you logic. We could say Pogba was on verge of winning Ballon D'or before he joined us. Schnederline was the best midfielder in the league before he joined. Luke Shaw was the best left back in the league before he joined. Fred was sought after by top coaches before he joined us.

Do you know that McTominay is able to shoot from tight marking more than any of our forward players? The attacking players need a free space the size of a room to be able to make a shot, and when they do it is shooting stars grin

Has anybody here insinuated such? We are saying Pereira is poor, just as Fred...We are also saying our fullbacks should push higher up the pitch when we are up against small teams...I have seen Messi use the run of Suarez as a decoy to get past defenders. Robben use to use the run of Lahm too to get past a defender. When we had Valencia, Mata could play on the RW and still be effective because Valencia provided the necessary width for him to move in field without affecting us.
The initial argument was even that midfield is the problem. Later una con dey add full backs. Yet a full back has created the highest chances grin

Anyway, my argument is simple. The blame should not be shifted. The way everyone is calling midfield is the problem, one would think that we have Messi, Ronaldo, Robben of old in attack.

Our attackers are not complete. They have individual deficiency. Rashford has no single buildup play, sometimes leaves the ball behind while trying to run swiftly. Martial is lazy. Peirera is always average. James still growing. All of them are poor in decision making and finishing.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 8:25pm On Nov 04, 2019
In the beginning of 2007/2008, one of Rooney or Ronaldo was out injured. We were struggling. But some initial moment of brilliance from the attacking players kept giving 1-0 win. Nani had one rocket from long range to win us a match. In another period, it was hard to break down defence when we played at home, cos opponents came to just park the bus. But the attackers were coming up with something special.

The first player we need to buy is a number 10 or a great attacking midfielder. Not this Pererira or Mata forming number 10.

Players like Raphael, Fabio, Oshea, Fletcher, may never have recognized outside Manchester United. But from hindsight, it is our attacking players who made those defenders appear very good. Not the other way round.

At Barcelona, who was in front of Alves?

If you watch Manchester City (Zichenko/Mendy and Walker) , Liverpool (Robertson and TAA) , Barcelona (Alba), Madrid (Marcelo and Carvajal), Bayern (Alaba and Kimmich), Juventus (Alex Sandro), Dortmund (Guerrero and Piszczek), Chelsea (Emerson/Alonso), Atletico (Formally Juan Fran and Felipe Luis now Trippier) and can't get the point we are making about overlapping fullbacks, I am sorry I can't help you.

Our midfield is even worse.
..
The attack is our major problem.

When we had Nani, you had an Evra who was like a left winger when we attacked, you had Giggs who dropped deep to free up space for a marauding Evra, we had Scholes who could switch play to our advantage with a raking long ball from midfield, we had Berbatov and Rooney in the box enough bodies in attack to stretch the opposition. Scholes sef joined the attack as soon as we went forward.

And Brown didn't play as our RB in many games.
There times injuries forced us to play what I will call second eleven. So even with the scenario I painted above, Nani will still be single handedly shaking defence on the right.

You guys think even if we bring Xavi, the likes of Pereira will begin to perform magic? These attacking players have to lift their games. But Pereira as a number 10 or a right winger is a let down already.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 8:03pm On Nov 04, 2019
The defender needs a player in front of him to be creative for him to also be creative.

Is it defender that makes them to miss penalties? To miss clear headers from six yard? To keep shooting wayward from edge of the box? To no make an intelligent through ball or lob over the defence?

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 8:01pm On Nov 04, 2019
patrickmuf:
De Bruyne from any position will still do well.

When Manchester City attacks, you see Mendy on the left stretching the play, Aguero is always in the box, Sterling tucks in to add more bodies in the box, Bernardo Silva tucks in too to allow Walker the space to drive forward, De Bruyne moves toward the right wing waiting for a cut back so can whoop in those his devilish crosses. In front of the defence, David Silva and Gundogan are waiting to recycle possession and in midfield, you have the CBs who push forward to narrow the pitch.

At Liverpool, Robertson and TAA occupy the wings when Liverpool attack allowing Mane and Salah to tuck in giving them more options in the box, Firmino drops to the edge of the box...Thats 5 players in that attacking sequence. To cover for the overlapping full backs, Henderson moves to the RW in any case of a counter, Van Dijk and Matip push up close to the midfield and Fabinho is stationed around the modified to stop provide cover with Wijnaldum ahead to recycle possession...

At United when we aatck, Rashford gets the ball, he starts running, when he looks for options, he can't pass to Martial because he is heavily marked, thus he turns and passes back to Young. Same thing happens when James has the ball, he begins to run but there's no overlapping full back or AMF in the same wavelength and with Martial heavily marked, he elects to go it alone until he is dispossessed or fouled. I have seen enough of our games where you'll find yourself screaming that Young and AWB should bomb forward but no (Young is even better). Pereira who should be very close to the attacks will be couple of yards behind thus we have to delay the play to allow them chance to join the attack by which time the opposition has regrouped. McTominay has been trying of late but he arrives late and most times his shots ends up being blocked...Watch our games and you'll observe what I am trying to point out, as a midfielder and even defender, you progress with the movement of the ball, how will we be on the attack yet Maguire, Lindelof and in some cases Rojo will be seen very deep in our half of the pitch? In a normal scenario, Rashford and James shouldn't be the ones whooping in balls, that's the work of our fullbacks and our midfielders should be around the dge of the box or thereabout with the defenders close to the midfield especially when we are up against small teams.
Nani did not have this excuse when they played in front of Wes Brown. Sometimes it was Brown on the right, Oshea on the left and Nani in front of Brown, Rooney in front of Osea. They still won heavily. No excuse.

Our forward players cannot breakdown defence. chikena. Luke Shaw was in form last season playing behind those guys, it was same story. Pogba plays too, same story.

There so many holes to pick on this your reply but I no get time to argue.

The crux of the discussion was chances created and not how they were created.

Some of the 60% set piece you are degrading from young could have been created/acquired by these same players you expect yo create.

Maybe in the process of creating the chances they were fouled and got a free kick or corner grin

Na for strikers to convert the CC naaim be the koko regardless of who create it.
There is only one way to create a chance in football. Same with Assists. Same with goal.

I agree with dis.

I don't agree with dis, the way a team is set up plays a part, take our game against Liverpool for instance, they didn't create many chances cuz we didn't allow their full backs into the game, leaving mane and firmino clueless in attack.
Where were their full backs last season when Liverpool won the UCL? The front three are still the highest contribution to CC, although they have a defender that has risen atop this season.

doesn't these have to do more with the way the team is set up? Liverpool for instance gets their creativity from their full backs, under Ferguson we use our wingers, I think even Alves was creating more chances than xavi and iniesta under Guardiola.
Generally, forward players (wingers, number 10 and number 9) create most chances in every team and league. There may be a rare situation where another player is doing well. But usually a rare situation. The way team is set up has little to do with it.

codedguy1:
You have not answered my question

You were talking about chances created by players and someone pointed out that young had created almost the same number of chances as Mahrez and you replied by saying 60% were from set piece.
The argument is simple. Generally, naturally, attacking players are the creators. However, we have on rare occasion defenders like Baines, and came top. If Baines did not craete that much, he wouldn't be held liable. But Silva, Mata would be held liable. Same way you would not hold Fenadinho liable if he doesn't create.

codedguy1:
This your DM and CM illustrations don't make sense to me. Are young and Mahrez CMs or DMs?
How? DM and CM do not have primary duty to create. It is the Wingers and Central Attacking Midfielder (number10 in the hole) who have this primary function, then number 9.

codedguy1:
If those that are expected to create chances at united in open play are flopping at it and someone else is creating those chances even if 60% are created through set piece, why make it look like creating chances through set piece is inferior to creating it in open play.

If the useless strikers we have were at least converting those set piece chances created by young we would be better off. No?
Professional analysts always separate chances created from open play from chances created from set play. Chances created from set play can tilt figures in favour of someone taking all the set plays.

Valenica 2615 minutes played= 89 chances created.
Ryan Giggs 1815 minutes - 68
Wayne Rooney 2723 minutes=56
Berbatove 2092 minutes =52

Does the fact that 60% of the chances he creates are set piece negate the fact that they are chances created. If we score from the set piece will the goal not stand or will it not be counted as assist for him.
Fact: Chances created are the 3rd assignment of a DM and a CM. Their first and second assignments are to shield defence and accurately pass the ball forward. If you see a CM having a high chances created, it is either he plays a bulk of the games in the hole (number 10) like Fabregas did for Chelsea or he takes set play.

The attacking players mostly win top chances created stats and Assists stat season after season in the EPL.
