inFamouz: We finished 2nd and that's our most successful season league wise since SAF, that we became worse was partly the boards fault for not backing the manager.
We also reached the FA cup final and lost to a lone pk goal caused by deadwood jones.
Hazard was always going to score that ball whether penalty or not. The fact is that no trophy
inFamouz: Martial played mostly on the left even during the start of his Career, he was brilliant throughout the season considering it was his first season as a teenager in a shaky team.
And martial was one if not the most Important player in our team as of then, dem no born van gaal well to drop martial. nevertheless he was still amazing in his limited time with Gaal.
Martial form dropped sha. Mostly his goal scoring form from number 9
inFamouz: I agree he mismanaged di maria. Rooney deserved to start in Van gaals 1st season, but the 2nd season he was sh!t, and i agree we played our best football under Van gaal in his 1st season. we finished 2nd and reached the FA cup final.
Rooney deserved to start in the second season under Gaal. He was instrumental to our FA Cup success. Gaal was pressured to drop Rooney in two or three games in January/February, he did and the team couldn't get going, so he was returned to starting 11. Then injury hit him and some senior players.
Gaal find a position for Rooney in the deep, but Mourinho pushed him forward again.
On second issue. The season we finished second we were trophyless and had gotten worse since
inFamouz: Jones wasn't 1st team injury no go even allow that one play, Rashford martial and to some extent lingard were brilliant under van gaal, he didn't use young that much since he bought Memphis.
the above mentioned players wasn't the reason he failed as they enjoyed brilliant individual campaigns. most of his signings were huge disappointments that even we fans didn't see coming. Schnerderlin darmian bastian Memphis di maria, injury upon injury and his stubbornness with "My captain must play"
He did have a style of play albeit boring, but you could see what he's trying to implement, something that is nonexistent under OGS.
I disagree with some things. Gaal was our best after SAF but he mismanaged Di Maria. Di Maria began on a brilliant note with great individual play and sexy goals and Assists. But Gaal was too poor to spot that Blind was too weak and slow to play the DM behind Di Maria. So when we lost badly to Leicester, Gaal changed Di Maria position from left midfield diamond (where he excelled in Madrid) to left winger. He killed him. Di Maria despite being sent to the benched was still among the highest on Assists.
Rooney deserved to start, forget newspaper criticism. He was better than Falcao, Mata even Mkhitaryan under Mourinho. Some good counter attacking play happened because he was involved. He and Di Maria did some. Rooney was still number 9 during the time we played our best football since Ferguson. When Gaal played 4-1-4-1, his movement was good for the four players behind him (Young, Fellaini, Herrera and Mata
What have we done since Rooney left? Nothing except getting worse and players losing playing sense. Mkhitaryan, Mata, Lingard that 'Rooney was an obstacle' to their place could not deliver when given Rooney was gone
inFamouz: dis is false. Moyes didn't manage any of our current attackers or midfleders, infact only de gea was a regular under Moyes, Martial, young Ddg and Rashford were class under van gaal. van gaal didn't manage any of our current 1st team midfielders or defenders, only shaw and Shaw's best run was under Van gaal b4 his injury.
Our current manager is garbage! Jose won three trophies with dis guyz and finished 2nd in the league, Van gaal made top 4 and won the FA cup, I can bet you that OGS won't manage to win anything and also won't make top 4.
Martial lost form after having a brilliant start to his career at United and Gaal moved him from number 9 to the left. At some point he was not selected to start.
Rashford had a good start but didn't play long enough under Gaal for a proper judgement
GloryIsaac: It's the reason Hugo Lloris decided to dribble the Southampton striker
Tbh, Martial needs to come back from injury asap... Liverpool plays quick football while pressing high up the pitch but they hardly have injury issues. Small press, Martial and Co don enter hospital
Martial is only a messiah because he doesn't play. When he starts playing week in week out, it will be sell useless Martial
We may also have to accept the fact that the great days are gone and we are now mid table team. Just like we were in the late 1980s. We have to gradually build a strong team within a period of 3-5 years by identifying and collecting the best young players in England and beyond. I think this is what OGS is trying to do. But whether he is the right person to do it, I don't know.
In between gathering future young best, we can bring in some great signings. This idea of carrying hundreds of millions into the market and buying average player, is not working. The best players want to go to Madrid, Barca, PSG. After the best 'cadre' of players in the market are selected by those teams, the next set of lower quality players want to play for Guardiola, Juventus . Then the middle ones are sold to United for 100m each.
The point I am trying to drive since is that we should not talk always of sacking players when we know we have no better replacement in the team. A player will naturally walk away when he knows that a better player has come into the first team and he (the old player) has no way of getting into the first team again.
If we sold Young and Rojo in the summer, what would have happened to the left back now with Luke Shaw's injury. We didn't have to flush out Smalling, Jones, Rojo before signing Lindelof, Magure, etc. We even had to try a certain Timothy Mensah and Eric Bailly, but were not obvious improvement on Smalling and Jones.
Let's keep what we have until we have something obviously better.
Fact: Pogba is doing nothing to justify being a main man. Shooting into the sky. Can't nod in from 3 yards. Was this how Zidane played midfield? One player can influence a whole team to be great.
Sacking players is never the issue at all. If there is a better player, the onld one naturally gives way. No one told Gary Neville to retire when Rafael came in.
We keep going round circle. Same story same proposal. Sack the following four, five, six players and the team will be fine. It is done and there appear new scapegoat (list) of players to be sacked again for the team to work. The thing is now very boring and annoying.
Sell Roonay, Fletcher, Oshea, Nani, and the team will be good. Whoosa!
Next time, sell Rooney, Falcao, Di Maria, etc
Next time sack Valencia, Smalling, Jones, Young, Matic, Mata, Rojoetc
patrickmuf: Nobody said he should attack and defend all by himself, you can see folks also saying Shaw is average going forward, it is what it is, they're both limited and need to improve.
Shaw not even defending very well currently.
Dalot is good going forward. He has the flair. But are we to take Dalot over Aaron?
patrickmuf: Years have gone by and with it, the demands for a full back has changed...Wan-Bissaka is good, very good defensively but if we must compete with the likes of City and Liverpool, he needs to improve his attacking play...We shouldn't even have to debate this as it is obvious our full backs are average going forward bar Dalot.
Football revolves round a circle. Nothing is permanent. Even when Ivanovic was banging in goals and Assists, Azpilicueta who was not as good going forward was rated a better defender.
Maldini was renowned for his technical ability, athleticism, sliding tackles, stamina, composure and fast energetic forward runs as a left-back or wing-back.He was also an excellent crosser of the ball, and was an effective attacking threat, scoring and assisting several goals throughout his careerhttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paolo_Maldini
You people dont want Ashley Young. They bought this guy coming with high praise and relief on this thread. So quickly you guys are dashing our hope. So what is the good thing about current Manchester United?
Leyqute: I see what you're trying to say. This team seems to play off each other's performance. Rashy won't press if Lingard isn't pressing as he'd like. But the coaching crew can up the level. We can't bring in players until January- and that's if we actually buy anybody.
They are not technically gifted. No Scholes to learn passing from. No Giggs to learn wing football sense from. No Van Ronaldo, Nistelrooy, Cole, Yorke and Rooneyto learn scoring sense from. No Rooney, Tevez, Park to learn overall contribution from. Rodaldo and Nan's dribbling skills.
How many times have we ruined counter attacks which were better chances from what Rooney, Park, Ronaldo created and got goals. You learn things from highly technical players.
Looking at things since Ferguson retired, it beginning to look like we made a mistake on sacking Louis Van Gaal.
He played the best football since Ferguson and some youths shone under him. At one point we had little known boys like C.Jackson, Verela, Rashford, etc giving promising performance.
But LVG didn't like sticking to a formula that works
He was close to the net and his shot suppose go up. Perreira created a good chance for Mata as well but baba don old.
It still goes to the quality of players and mates they train with. John Oshea scored a similar chance against Liverpool in one of the title deciding fixtures 07/08. He lifted the ball above Pepe Reina in dying minutes.
Our average players way back had better overall football sense than our players now because they trained with quality team mates.
SIRcumalot: I always want my full back to first be a defender before any kain attacking instinct. A good right winger is what we need for that right position. Wan bisakka can't be beat by any winger for this league. Make we leave am there. Still,I understand we need some kind of attacking instinct from the full back positions which am hoping will come from The left. I don't think Shaw can do it.
I am not sure Paolo Maldini was known for going forward. Not everyone will be Roberto Carlos, Marcelo or Alves.
nitrogen: Elampiro, who/what is our problem sef? Would like to hear from you. Players, Manager, Board, supporters, fans or all of the above?
I only watch our first two matches so far. I just watched extended highlight of our match vs West Ham on youtube. We have no pattern. After those first games of OGS last season, we have been patternless.
At least I knew Moyes played a pattern but it did not work. Every player has a playing zone
LVG had a pattern of trying to keep possession and build slowly from the back. But it did not work. He however used some unknown players to disgrace some EPL teams.
Mourinho was always afraid to attack. He had a patern of trying to park the bus and go on counter. Also claimed we didnt have quality to play attacking football.
I don't know what OGS is trying to do. Players just run around and flow according to the rhythm of the opponent.
I always said Rojo is strong on the left back. Shaw was my least when we had a full house of Young, Rojo, Blind and Shaw. My order of rating at the time.
The press sell who they want to sell. Me I follow what I watch. Shaw is not a creative passer. He has speed to drive the ball forward when nothing is on his way
The players Ole bought are the ones who keep getting the best ratings. Hope fans and media will allow Ole to settle here.
I don't understand this talk of not giving young players a chance. Young players are introduced into big stage gradually. Their performance and confidence propel them into the starting eleven. It is not forced.
Rafael was not unnecessary forced to start ahead of Garry Neville and Brown. SAF tried many many young players who never were above average and were dropped again. At one time, every EPL opposition we played had a former United academic player.
POSTIVES; 1) The defence was solid and it seems I might currently rate young ahead of Shaw in the LeftBack position. 2) We controlled the midfield but until Matic seemed to be tired.(Afterall "you must not hold the ball to control the game" -Mourinho 3) Fred is very energetic and he could replace Pogba in the deep role, then Pogba moves upfield 4)Mc Tominay deserves the man of the match he was everywhere on the pitch, make mistakes though but had too much positives to outweigh his negatives 5)Chong looked like the real deal when he came on with his touches and dribbles 6)Ole was spot on with his substitutes.
NEGATIVES; 1)Matic is finished Fred should definitely start ahead of him 2) Rashford is not a No.9 that can bang in goals, although we know that already ( he plays too deep) 3) Chong should have started ahead of Mata with Pereira moving centrally 4) Lindelof is now the weak link in our defence( I expected that to be young) 5) Goals are scored by taking shots only Tominay and James too 2+ shots today
I rest my case
I didn't watch the match but with this I have an idea.
GloryIsaac: 2nd in the league with 19 points difference between the top two teams lmaoooo
What happened when other teams like Liverpool stepped up?
Always saying 2nd in the league as if the team challenged for the title that season with this players. If them no tell you, you no go no say na 19 points them use gap us.
Come and finish 2nd with 19 points difference again nah.... Let's see whether there won't be teams within that point range.
purpleprincess: So ole should be blamed for the fact that the players his predecessors signed are simply not good enough? I will like to see pep or rodgers work their magic on lingard and jones.
This thread should be renamed comedy central.
Those players finished 2nd in the league. We were told if Mourinho is sacked, the next coach will bring dressing room unity, get the best out of Pogba and United will compete with City because 'Mourinho inherited a better team than Guardiola'
