Ayatollah al-Sadr was a born genius in knowledge. When Kuwait wanted to establish Islamic Banking they contacted him. People of knowledge in the West mourned his murder. Saddam killed him with his own hand according to Saddam's Physician.

After the glorious victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, the greedy West did everything to overthrow the Revolutionary government but failed. Their last resort was to push Saddam to invade Iran. They provided him with sophisticated weapons while Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and other Arab countries funded his war machine.

What was the end of Saddam?

He outlived his usefulness to the Americans so they tricked him to invade Kuwait. The idiot invaded Kuwait and they formed a coalition against him. Saudi Arabia funded the war. They killed more than one million Iraqis and caught Saddam like a rat from a rat hole. They hanged him after killing his two sons.

Who has ever profited in serving the greedy European savages? Who? Please give me an example!

The Peaceful Posture of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky:

Today under President Buhari there is widespread prevalence of arms and ammunition in Nigeria where local bandits and thugs can easily secure arms but the Islamic Movement in Nigeria under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky chose to remain peaceful despite the brutal and inhuman #ZariaGenocide, murderous persecution, massive campaigns of calumny and demonization that included sponsoring anti-Shia book launching by Elrufai, refusal of obey the Courts by Buhari and other Saudi agents in Nigeria and attacks and killings of peaceful #FreeZakzaky protests.

The choice of peace under these existential threatening condition can only be made by those who are honored with Greatness by God and this is what Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky symbolized.

Sheikh Zakzaky is honored and respected around the world not only in the Shia world but in large section of the Islamic world. Afro-American Muslims considered him as their leader, the Black community in far away Brazil recently sent me a message that they considered Sheikh Zakzaky as their leader.

Just imagine if such a man with large followership around the world decided to go for Armed Resistance to avenge the gross injustice, genocide and monumental savagery and barbarism done to him and his followers. Nigeria will not survive with that. With our population tens of millions of refugees will result. A burden that our neighbors can not bear due to their small population.

Only the gullible will assume small arms and weapons will be involve in such armed Resistance. Precision Ballistic missiles and sophisticated armed Drones will be involve to destroy the Nigerian army and hunt down Buhari, Elrufai and gang to avenge the 1000+ innocent souls they brutally murdered and burnt in Zaria.

But the saintly Sheikh Zakzaky said "No, you must remain peaceful in all your programs and activities". He also said "Go to the courts to seek redress for the gross injustice done to us". We stage peaceful protests, they attack and kill us. We went to courts, the courts ruled in our favor but they contemptuously refused to obey the courts. We ask "What do they want?"

Nigerians should please ask what do these genocidal agents of the savage Saudi regime want? Anywhere in the world that you see the mark of the Western-backed Saudi Arabia, you must see deaths and destructions. These traitorous bloodthirsty Wahhabi savages had spearheaded the destruction of Muslim nations on behalf of Western imperialism and Global Zionism.

All the murderous terrorist groups #ISIS, #AlQaeda, #BokoHaram etc that are killing the innocent in the name of Islam are inspired by Saudi-sponsored Wahhabism. Governor Elrufai sponsors hate speech campaigns against us with book launch

– Islamic Movement in Nigeria

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria has accused Kaduna state government of Elrufa’i of sponsoring hate speech campaigns against it, with the public presentation of a Book early in the week at Arewa House, Kaduna, during which Shias were called infidels by the organisers of the event.

This was made known to the Press today in a press statement released by the President of the Media Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibrahim Musa.

“The Islamic Movement in Nigeria wishes to express its outright disapproval of the current campaign of calumny against the Shia Islamic faith in general and the Islamic Movement in particular as espoused in the gathering of some Wahabi Islamic scholars during the book presentation on Sunday 11/08/18 at Arewa House, Kaduna, where Kaduna state Governor was the Chief Host.

“Though the book presented was titled "Fallacy of Shi'ites beliefs," the scholars were reported by some national dailies to have said that “Shiites, threat to National Security.” We feel this news headline deserves our condemnation. How about if we say: "Sunnis, threat to National Security," will followers of Sunni Islam in Nigeria not get offended?” according to the Press Statement.

The Islamic Movement said, “We are extremely concerned that this title is similar to some of the scary titles you read about Muslims on the websites of Far Right movements who are busy spreading Islamophobia in the West in particular and the world in general, only that in this context the shiaphobia is the bogey for the so-called Wahabbi scholars.”

It then drew the attention of the government to the freedom granted citizens by the constitution, “We must emphasize that while these debates and arguments between Sunnis and Shiites are as old as the history of Islam, the secular Nigeria has nothing to do with it. These “scholars” know very well that the constitution of Nigeria gives freedom of speech and religion as enshrined in section 38, which categorically states: "Every person shall be entitled to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom (either alone or in community with others, and in public or in private) to manifest and propagate his religion or belief in worship, teaching, practice and observance."

The press statement categorically denies that the Islamic Movement poses a national threat, “Why they hate the Shiites has nothing to do with national security. Therefore well-meaning Nigerians should not be seen to support demonizing narratives sanctioned at a state level simply because people choose different interpretations of some issues within the religion of Islam. Therefore, as long as a group or organisation conducts itself peacefully without legitimizing violence, the state should stay away from meddling in inter-sectarian polemics.

“The almost 40 years history of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria and its Leader Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky is enough a pointer to the fact that we are not a threat to national security as those so called scholars that gathered in Kaduna will want other Nigerians to believe. In fact it is the other way round, because it is on record that in one of his books, the author of the book launched, Prof. Umar Labdo of the Maitama Sule University, Kano, called on Muslims of his like to kill, maim and burn the properties of Christians and Shiites. We strongly believe that it’s such ‘scholars’ who identify with the ISIS ideology that spread hate and animosity among citizens that are a threat to National security.”

The Islamic Movement vowed to continue demanding for the release of its Leader, Sheikh Zakzaky, “On a final note, we would like to state categorically that, we will not relent on our effort to enlighten the world about the atrocities committed by the trio of Federal government, Kaduna state government and the Nigerian Army (all under the influence of the Wahibi scholars like Prof. Labdo) against the members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria during the month of December, 2015. Even though the Kaduna book presentation is ostensibly held to justify the Zaria massacre executed by the Army, we will like to assure those pseudo ulama that Zaria massacre will continue to hunt the memories of its organizers, financiers and executors forever.

“We once again wish to reiterate our call on the Federal government to release our Leader Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, his wife Malama Zeenah and hundreds others still languishing in various detention facilities across the country, most especially Southern part of Nigeria since December, 2015.”

There Will Be No War, Nor Will We Negotiate With The U.S.

- Recently, U.S. officials have been talking blatantly about us, too. Beside sanctions, they are talking about war and negotiations. In this regard, let me say a few words to the people: there will be no war, nor will we negotiate [with the U.S.].

- Why do we not negotiate with the U.S.?
This is the U.S. formula for negotiation:
- Because U.S. officials depend on power and money, they consider negotiations as a business deal.
- The U.S. sets the main goals in negotiating with anyone and does not retreat an inch from the self-asserted goals.
- They demand the other side to give them immediate benefits and if the other party refrains from giving in, the U.S. officials will create an uproar so that their partner would give up.
- The U.S. does not offer anything in cash or immediate in return for what it receives in cash. It simply makes strong promises and tries to enchant the other side by mere promises.
- And in the final step, when things are over and the U.S. has received the cash, the immediate benefits, it breaches the same promises.
This is the U.S.'s method of negotiation. Now, should one negotiate with such a duplicitous government?

- JCPOA was an obvious example of what negotiations with the United States would bear. We can enter a risky negotiation with the U.S. only when we have reached achieved the desired level of power in economy, politics and culture, so that U.S.'s pressures and uproars won't affect us. Even if we ever—impossible as it is—negotiated with the U.S., it would never ever be with the current U.S. administration.

- Unlike what some assume, U.S.'s offer of negotiation is not a new issue and it has been repeated over and over during the past 40 years, receiving a negative response from Iran. Even Reagan, the then President of the U.S.—who was more powerful than the recent presidents—secretly sent McFarlane to Tehran for negotiations but he had to return after 24 hours without any outcome.

- No war will occur as, like before, we will never initiate a war and the U.S. won't launch a war either because they know that it would 100 per cent end to their detriment; this is because the Islamic Republic and the Iranian nation have proved that any transgressor, will be stricken a bigger blow.

- A stupid man tells the Iranian nation that 'your government spends your money on Syria'. This is while his boss-- the U.S. president-- has admitted he spent 7 trillion dollars in the Middle East without gaining anything in return.

The Fall of Daura

Come on. Let us face it. Lawal Daura was not appointed the Director General of the DSS because he was the Steve Jobs of his field. There was not any known qualifying exams or interview that could have rationally proved his excellence over other contenders. There were so many serving directors in the department who would have easily stepped into the shoes the Ita Ekpeyong on 2 July 2015. Even if considered, none was picked. In the end, the best to serve the administration was thought to be someone in retirement that shares the same geography as the President.

The Rise

Why would a President known for due process and faith in public servants choose to abandon serving officers and go for someone from his hometown?

Trust is the answer.

The recall of Lawal Daura to head the DSS was under the recommendation of the President’s nephew, Malam Mamman Daura. Lawal was not the only one. Malam Mamman has also caused the appointments of many of his and the President’s relations, in-laws, friends and loyalists. Known to the public includes the appointments of Chief of Staff, the ministers of education, water resources, FCT, aviation, trade and investment, budget and planning, environment, in addition to numerous assistants, advisers and heads of parastatals. Tambuwal had to even strongly intervene directly with the President to stop the scandalous appointment of a lady as ambassador from his state.

I have pardoned some of such appointments before by proffering that this time the President needs people he can trust given his bad experience of 1985. He knows that he has come the second time against many odds from elements of the previous administration and its party; those of the ancien regime that overthrew him in 1985, most of whom are still active; people that he may harm should he actualise his dream of cleansing the country of corruption; etc. Those that I could not defend were clearly nepotistic, like the ministers that were appointed even in the face of protest from their party members of their state.

Added to this list is the hidden and very powerful members of the kitchen cabinet – who the President’s wife and Nigerians call ‘the cabal’ – headed by no one less capable the President’s nephew. This is a familiar role for Malam Mamman Daura. He played it before when he headed the secret committee of himself, Dr. Mahmud Tukur, Musa Bello and Mutallab in 1985, in Lagos. They used to ‘guide’ the president on matters of policy, pro bono, a courier once confided. Fortunately – or unfortunately – for the President, all of them are still active, though few names like Kingibe have been added.

When a census is taken, it can easily be proven that President Buhari can carry the medal of the President with the highest number of relatives at the centre of power. We never saw the in laws and relatives of any previous president in the mix of Dodan Barracks or Aso Villa. I cannot remember any in law or relative of Balewa, Gowon, Shagari, Babangida, Abacha (except for his son Muhammad), Obasanjo, Yar’adua or Jonathan as presidential staff, advisers and ministers. I cannot remember any of their uncles or nephews occupying ‘the glass house’. They must have been too few, if any, to remember, except for their first ladies. For Buhari, they are too many to escape the enumeration of people like Dr. Junaid Mohammed, in spite of the former’s pledge that he will keep his relatives clear of state matters.

The rise of Daura must be squarely placed in the context of this scheme which only time could prove the wisdom of this scheme.

The Fall

And time was not kind to Daura.

Would the privileged appointment make Daura a more committed DSS director to the regime than how his predecessors were to theirs? Would he be able to strike a balance between the professional demands of his office and the loyalty to his sponsors?

One thing that cannot be dismissed is that Lawal Daura did not change the tide of abuses in the DSS. He went even farther. Never before did we hear the DSS embroiled in cases of appointments, investigations and duties of other department of government in addition to reported cases of insubordination.

Barricading the legislature was the stroke that broke the camel’s back. The timing was inauspicious for two reasons: the President, who would have tolerated his overzealousness, was not around and, facing elections, the regime is eager to show control instead of the aloofness that greeted such abuses from its side in the past three years.

The Vice-President seized the moment and fired Daura instantly and, possibly, ordered his arrest. Without waiting for the President to return and receive another recommendation for a new DG from his kitchen cabinet, the Vice-President, free from any baggage of memory that hounds his boss, did a professional job by appointing the highest serving officer in the department, Mr. Mathew Seyefa, as the new DG.

Now the EFCC is reportedly bracing up to extract its pound of flesh from Lawal Daura, who did everything to block the confirmation of its boss, Mr. Magu. But I doubt if it can go far without being restrained, like in other cases in which members of the kitchen-cabinet have substantial interest. Perchance the EFCC is able to carry its effort through, then that will confirm the allegation in some quarters that the former DSS director was a double agent.

Lesson

The fall of Daura is a lesson in the nation’s emerging democracy. The doctrine of separation of powers has to be guarded against abuse from officials of the executive arm of government. We now know that there is a limit to the pretext of ‘security’ which is repeatedly used by the DSS to justify abuses on institutions and individuals alike.

It could also be a good morning for some people detained in violation of court orders or political reasons, all in the name of ‘security’. We expect the government to cleanse itself of this filth before the next elections, if only to whitewash its record of human right abuses. Dasuki may not be a quick beneficiary. But he should contend himself with having a new neighbour in Lawal Daura.

Lastly, the President too will do himself a favour if he takes charge of his appointments. Delegating it to members of the kitchen-cabinet, the SGF or a political camp has proven to be less optimal. As the best that he is suggested to be, he must go for nothing less than the best. I believe, in the performance of the new DG of DSS, there will be abundant proof that Nigerians other than one’s townsmen can also be relied upon to protect both his interest and that of the nation.

Kinship or common geography do not directly translate into safety and competence. We must learn to trust other Nigerians. That is the biggest take home from the fall of Daura.

Lawal Daura has fallen, no doubt. Yet, that does not stop us from wishing him and the nation well. Stay well, brother.

President Buhari Calls Police against Protesting Nigerians in London

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari who is currently on a ten day vacation in London has called London police against citizens of own his country who had gathered in front of the Abuja House in London to protest against happenings in the country.

This happened just two days after some members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), also stormed the Abuja House in London to protest against President Muhammadu Buhari and the proscription of IPOB as a terrorist organisation.

The Protest which was broadcast on Facebook live video was against President Buhari and his constant travel to the United Kingdom to access medical services while neglecting the health sector in Nigeria.

The protesters insisted that President Buhari should go back to his country and develop it because it’s only developed countries that have quality medical facilities.

President Buhari called London Police to evacuate the protesters as they gathered around at the gate of the Abuja House. The London police however allowed the protesters to continue with their demonstration as they warned them to do it peacefully.

The protesting Nigerians in Diaspora also brought pictures showing the poor conditions of Nigerian health system which they presented in front of the Abuja House. They said the president should be using the local hospitals he is offering to other Nigerians.

“Go back home and use everything you provided for Nigerians”. They chanted.

While the protest was going on, a vehicle which was said to be conveying President Buhari left the Abuja House without a single comment to the Protesting Nigerians.

President Buhari is fond of travelling to the United Kingdom to treat ailments which the Presidency has refused to disclose to the Nation.

There were rumours that he had died in a London hospital following his disappearance from Aso Rock last year for nearly two months during which Vice President Yemi Osinbajo acted as President.

Legitimate criticism of Israel is not anti-Semitism

When Israel’s Parliament, the Knesset, in the wee hours of July 19 passed a controversial law, declaring that Israel was exclusively a Jewish state, the passage of the bill made headlines but failed to generate much worldwide condemnation.

In any other democracy, including the United States, a bid to enact similar legislation will draw widespread denunciation. The new Israeli law undermines human dignity and upholds the superiority of Jewish citizens over its other citizens. It has been given the enshrined status of a Basic Law, underlying the principles of the State. Therefore, it cannot easily be repealed. The new law recognises “Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people” and reduces its Arab and Druze people to second class citizens.

Imagine if Sri Lanka’s parliament passes a law stating that Sri Lanka is exclusively a country for the Sinhala Buddhists. Within minutes, international condemnations will pour in. The United States and the European Union will withdraw trade concessions and warn of tough measures if the government fails to reverse the law. Sanctions will be slapped. Sri Lanka will be overnight reduced to a pariah state.

But Israel is often treated with kid gloves and allowed to get away scot free. It can kill a thousand unarmed Palestinians in one go and still strut about on the world stage, with the US patting it on the back and hailing it as ‘the only democracy in the Middle East’. When the abominable law was passed, there was not even a whimper of protest from the Donald Trump administration. Perhaps, Israel was emboldened by Trump’s move to recognise the whole of Jerusalem as the undisputed capital of Israel – a move that killed Palestinian peace hopes.

Expressing concern, the European Union issued a weak statement that hardly stood up to the depravity of the racist law. Much weaker was the statement the United Nations Secretary General’s office issued. "We reaffirm the United Nations' respect for the sovereignty of states to define their constitutional character while emphasizing the need for all states to adhere to universal human rights principles, including the protection of minority rights," said UNSG’s spokesman Farhan Haq.

The passage of the bill, on the contrary, warrants international isolation of Israel – just as South Africa had been during the apartheid years -- and the reintroduction of the 1975 United Nations General Assembly Resolution which asserted that Zionism was a form of racism. The resolution had the support of the Non-Aligned Movement. In December 1991, with the Cold War coming to an end, the resolution was revoked, under pressure from and in awe of the US, which was emerging as the sole superpower or, sadly, as the global bully,
unchallenged by any rival.

Israel’s Arabs and the Druze communities have challenged the law in the Israeli Supreme Court, but Zionist hardliners, including Premier Benjamin Netanyahu and Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, have warned of an earthquake if the courts were to uphold the petitions.

Against this backdrop, a major controversy has erupted in the British Labour Party, with party leader Jeremy Corbyn, who has spoken in support of the Palestinians’ freedom cause, being slapped the anti-Semite label.

Corbyn’s problems began in April 2016 when Labour MP Naz Shah criticised Israel on social media posts and endorsed a suggestion that Israel be sent to the US. This was followed by former London mayor Ken Livingstone’s defence of Shah during a radio show. He added to the controversy by saying Hitler supported Zionism. He later resigned from the Labour Party, following his suspension.

These incidents and criticism of Israeli by several Labour activists saw Corbyn being accused of incompetence in dealing with anti-Semitism. In March this year, Jewish community leaders published an open letter accusing him of “siding with anti-Semites”. Although Corbyn had clarified matters saying he did not and would not support anti-Semitism, he remains vilified in the rightwing media. This is mainly because, Corbyn, in the true spirit of the traditional Labour, has been supporting the Palestinian cause, opposing Britain’s urge to bomb Syria and, domestically, pushing for radical socialist reforms aimed at uplifting the living standards of the working class.

Last month, amidst growing criticism, the Labour Party accepted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of anti-Semitism in a bid to put the controversy to rest once and for all, but rightly did not agree to a stipulation which said criticism of Israel could be deemed anti-Semitism. The Labour Party argued that legitimate criticism of Israel could not be anti-Semitic.

Despite this principled stance, a section of the party wants Corbyn ousted. They are the rightwing members – the so-called Blairites or supporters of former Prime Minister Tony Blair who lied to the British people to launch the illegal war on Iraq in 2003, and who as the international community’s Middle East peace envoy did nothing but making millions of dollars through his private consultancy business targeted at the region’s despots.

The huge storm the criticism of Israel has created in British politics and the mild condemnations Israel’s apartheid law has evoked only underline the double standards the world has adopted in eliminating racism. The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination reaffirms in its preamble that discrimination between human beings on the grounds of race, colour or ethnic origin is an obstacle to friendly and peaceful relations among nations and is capable of disturbing peace and security among peoples and the harmony of persons living side by side even within one and the same State.

In a related controversy, Britain’s former foreign minister Boris Johnson has drawn criticism from Prime Minister Theresa May and rights groups for saying that Muslim women who wear burqas or Niqab look like letter boxes or bank robbers. May, while scolding him, said women should be free to wear the burqa if they chose to do so.

But this appears to be a rare case of condemnation of Islamophobia defined as “dislike of or prejudice against Islam or Muslims”. Often, in the name of freedom of expression, any mockery of Islam and its prophet is allowed in the so-called liberal and enlightened West, where academics and researchers are still prevented from questioning the Zionists’ narration of the Holocaust or Israel’s right to rob the Palestinians’ land.

True, anti-Semitism is bad and needs to be condemned in the strongest possible terms. The Holocaust is remembered not to allow Israel to oppress Palestinians and occupy their lands in violation of international law, but to prevent another Holocaust, irrespective of who the victims are. Sadly, the Palestinians are subjected to a subtle Holocaust, by Israel with the explicit support of the US.

If the strongest condemnation is reserved only in defence of Jewish dignity and is not forthcoming with similar vigour when other ethnic groups and religious communities are ridiculed and their dignity tarnished, then those who are issuing such condemnation are practising the worst form of racism.

The Youth Volunteers of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (Hurras) have taken upon themselves to search anybody attending Islamic Movement programs and activities. These brave and courageous Youths prefer to die with a Suicide bomber than allow him murder dozens.

MY DEAR PRESIDENT, LET YOUR PEOPLE GO

Your Excellency, it is with every sense of love and patriotism that I have decided to write you again despite the frustration of knowing that you may not hearken to my sincere advice to you, as I have written to plead with you on several occasions, but my entreaties have been to no avail. I pray this letter meets you well in the beautiful city of London where I expect you to be resting and relaxing by now whilst waiting to undergo your mandatory physical check-up. Sir, though this piece amounts to unsolicited advice from a self-appointed Special Adviser, I wish to reassure you that you should stop banking on professional politicians who are merely using you to feather their own nests. I demand and require no gratification whatsoever other than to put it permanently and indelibly on record that someone told you the truth while the unrepentant liars took over your space and led you astray.

Before I go on, please, permit me, Sir, to take you down memory lane, from the First Republic to the present. Practically all our leaders failed, or fell, usually not because of only what they did wrong but ostensibly because of what they did not do right. Let me also establish one fact. Most of our leaders have been catapulted to power, not by their superlative might, but by divine intervention. One day, I will chronicle how providence has been responsible for the exalted position all our leaders found themselves. Sadly, practically almost all of them forgot how they reached their lofty heights and sought to personally perpetuate themselves in power, but the celestial manner of their enthronement also saw to their humiliating, sometimes tragic, downfall. Consequently, virtually all, except may be General Abdulsalami Abubakar, were disgraced, removed or retired ignominiously or controversially.
President Obasanjo who was easily the most efficient, efficacious and effervescent leader, after the brilliant and youthful General Yakubu Gowon, ended his tenure in 2007 with the reverberating hoopla surrounding his third term bid. Whether he was interested in it, or his acolytes forced him into it, all his good works would always attract that cloudy addendum. It is noteworthy, for emphasis, that no leader in Nigerian history has ever succeeded in enslaving Nigerians. We can stretch this further, by stating categorically, that no leader in the world has ever achieved absolute authority permanently. Indeed, that is a preserve meant only for God. If only humans reminded themselves constantly of this fact and their mortality!

This is the reason I wish to appeal to you once again to resist the temptation of wanting to take Nigeria back to those days of oppression and suppression. In case you need to be reminded of how much God loves you, I shall gladly oblige. When your military regime was toppled in 1985, your enemies danced on the streets. You were compared to the worst dictators on earth and many would have thought it was finished and over for you. But the ways of the Almighty are not the ways of man. 30 years later, the same Nigerians who rejoiced over the collapse of your military junta, in their collective wisdom or stupidity or amnesia, gave you a resounding victory at the polls against a powerful government and incumbent President. This was after you had tried for a record third time and had virtually given up any chance or hope of winning a Presidential election again. You had actually wept for Nigeria and yourself on that third inauspicious occasion. This time around, in 2015, everything seemed stacked against you, including old age and diminishing health. Yet Nigerians at home and abroad placed their abundant faith in you. What you have done with their faith since then is debatable.
What more could anyone ever ask for again in this life? Credit for that victory must go to everyone, including saints and sinners, in case such nomenclatures exist on planet earth. Please, let no one rewrite the history of that epic battle to dislodge the PDP behemoth. It was thus a gross miscalculation to get power by such default and try to change the narrative by saying you belonged to everyone and to no one, or whichever way it was crafted by your speechwriters. Truth is you belonged to the party that embraced you, warts and all, and all the foot-soldiers who made it possible for you to attain power once again. Not just that, you instantly became the father of the nation on that fateful May 29, 2015, and could no longer discriminate against anyone for that matter. If you wanted to govern in peace and make appreciable impact, you should have treaded softly and walked gingerly towards your ultimate destination. The war of attrition that broke out as soon as you took power was totally unnecessary and uncalled for. Except for your most loyal supporters, not many ever trusted the many fisticuffs were to the benefits of Nigeria, but only for the pecuniary gains of the privileged ones in power.
If you fight a war for over three years and you are unable to defeat your enemies, you should realise that it is either they are stronger than you or your strategy is abysmally faulty and failing. I love the Yoruba adage: “ta a ba leni, ta a ba bani, iwon la a bani sota mo…” (If we pursue an adversary and cannot catch up with him, it is better to retreat, than continue to make enemies of such a person). It is not an act of cowardice to retreat or even surrender. The fight you are pursuing right now would eventually prove too costly for you and for Nigeria, even if you manage to win it, which I seriously doubt. By the time you reach the end of it, you will discover the meaning of anti-climax. The victory will be a pyrrhic one or if otherwise, a cataclysmic defeat. Therefore, I’m shocked that you’re allowing some reckless and vengeful politicians to goad you on and mislead you into victimising those who have left your party and are now opposing you. The same people you met and laughed with recently, before our very eyes, have suddenly become enemies who must be destroyed by all means. Sir, this act is totally unfortunate. Only God can give power and only HE can take it back. You did not use force to take power in 2015, why do you then think you need to retain that power by use of force and fire?

I’m not sure if you are familiar with world history, my dear President. You may need to ask your aides to print out some dark moments in human history for your perusal. What often happens is that you will, inadvertently, turn those you’re harassing now into superstars. What you are playing with is a game of David and Goliath. It is one of the most fascinating scenes in the Christian Bible. Goliath was so confident of his awesome strength and stamina and so looked down on pitiable and diminutive David. The Holy Bible recalls their fight was a classic example of a mismatch. But Goliath suffered a crushing defeat in the hands of David. That battle is still celebrated worldwide till today, and it is a story almost every child knows and is taught to learn from. The didactic lesson from it is that not every battle should be fought and not every arsenal should be deployed. Better to keep some things till they are absolutely needed. This cat and mouse game of using State apparatus to witch-hunt deserters is becoming predictable, boring and nauseating.

Those who have decamped from APC have only exercised their fundamental rights. Whether they are morally right is neither here nor there and is ultimately a verdict for the electorate to ponder and unravel when elections, which loom large, finally arrive. Similarly, whether they are legally justified in their defection is a matter which your party may seek to take up in the courts, and I am certain that the Courts will do justice to the case as they have been doing despite terrorisation, bullying and coercion from some over-exuberant agencies of your government. I pause to observe that some of these guys were hailed by us when they joined our side the last time. At that time, we justified their defection to us as being part of the democratic process. If they have now decided to go because they believe they are not wanted by some influential gladiators in the ruling party, my dear President, please let them go. Your party’s point that they have done so for less than altruistic reasons will be considered and digested by our people who are quite politically savvy and discerning. They will make up their minds as to the rights and wrongs of it all.

Your Excellency, I want you to remember that you will not be in power forever. You have your family and friends to consider. Those who have been locked up in prison today and those being hounded could never have envisaged a day like this would ever come when there would be a reversal of power and fortune. It is too cheap for a Governor to decamp today, and then he and his operatives are being terrorised tomorrow. Power should never be abused in this manner. Who knows what would happen when tomorrow comes again?

One of the reasons former President Jonathan is respected today and enjoys some peace is because he gave you great respect though both of you fought tooth and nail over power. He tolerated many of us who supported you and did not make the occupation of Aso Rock a matter of life and death. Sir, why can’t you reciprocate this wonderful gesture? It is to his eternal credit that, in the midst of our attacks on him, I got invited to the wedding of his daughter, and was treated with decorum. Politics should never be a matter of brutish animosity. That is why I always have tremendous regard for lawyers. They may fight like savage adversaries in Court but, whilst they are there, they still show themselves some honour and respect. It is their attitude once they step outside the courtroom that is even more remarkable. Then they shed the toga of adversaries and become noble and learned friends. I wish all of us could imbibe this kind of camaraderie in the practice of our political beliefs.

Furthermore, I have copious examples that show that what you sow is what you reap. I wish to plead with you to cool temper, Sir. I know how it feels to be abandoned in the lurch by your own friends and supporters. But that is life. Everything can’t be smooth all the time. When you go to the FIFA World Cup, you do so knowing only one team can grab the much-coveted trophy. You should try to play a good and clean game and leave the rest to Allah. You have played your part to the best of your abilities and should be happy once your conscience is clear that there was no better way to do things.

Even if you decide to keep all your opponents in the gulag, it still does not guarantee that you will win the next election in 2019. But if you do it in God’s way by embracing decency and fairness, your rating will go higher. You will attract natural admiration. The love of the people cannot be forced. You’ve been drawing sympathies to the decampees because of the high-handedness and intolerance of some of your agents. As I started this mail, what kept coming back to me was a very popular autobiography I read as a youth, LET MY PEOPLE GO, written by Albert John Luthuli, the very first Black African man to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Luthuli led the African National Congress in South Africa in the apartheid years for 15 agonising years and coordinated mass resistance and non-violent crusade against the White supremacists. Though he did not live long enough to see the end of apartheid, others carried on the task and Nelson Mandela, who spent 27 years in prison, came back alive to become the first President of an independent and free South Africa.
Mr President, there is a moralistic lesson to learn from the life and trajectory of the great Madiba Nelson Mandela. He became a world Statesman for his uncommon magnanimity and spirit of forgiveness. He had the power to exterminate his former tormentors and jailers but instead he decided to set up a Truth and Reconciliation Committee that tried to integrate the whites into a new black-dominated government. Nigeria needs urgent reconciliation, healing and unification, which has led to a strident clamouring for restructuring. We should be tired of fighting for power for personal aggrandisement after groping in darkness for 58 ugly years. There are no prizes for war but there are beautiful garlands for peace.

ICC denies rating Buhari on integrity

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has denied claim that it invited President Muhammadu Buhari as its keynote speaker during its 20th anniversary because he had the highest rating on integrity.

A lawmaker, Abdulmumin Jibrin in an interview on a national television in July claimed that the ICC invited Buhari as its keynote speaker, because he is the only president, that achieved the highest indices on integrity in a check carried out by security agencies from twenty European countries and the United States of America on both serving and former African leaders.

This message was paraphrased by supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to read ‘Buhari showed me a document he brought back from ICC, Hague. A top-secret Background Check on Global leaders, past and present. He is the only leader rated XXX1 on Integrity, the Highest Rating Globally. That’s why he is the only World Leader on the ICC floor to address them - Abdulmumin Jibrin, APC Kano’.

The post was shared on social media platforms by loyalists of the president, including Lauretta Onochie, Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media.

But ICC spokesperson, Fadi El Abdallah in an email exchange via the Public Affairs unit of the court said “The International Criminal Court (“ICC” or the “Court”) is not involved in any integrity or background check of world leaders,”

He added that it has been standard practice for the ICC to invite Heads of State one ýat a time for certain high-level events, such as anniversary commemorations but also the opening of the judicial year, adding that “this is because of logistical and protocol reasons involved in hosting dignitaries at that level”.

He also disclosed that other heads of state have been invited and have participated in high level events organised by the Court in the past, stressing that President Buhari was invited as keynote speaker for the commemorations of the 20th anniversary.

El Abdallah said President Buhari was not the only leader invited to the event but that ‘Nigeria was the only State represented by its President’. He added that more than 30 other States were represented at the level of national Senates and Parliaments chiefs, as well as Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Justice.

The presidency declined to confirm or refute the claim.

‘Ask the man who told you,’ the spokesman of the president, Femi Adesina said.

We have reached out to Jibrin to clarify his claim and tell us his source but no response yet.

Onochie has also refused to respond to questions about the claim she shared.
