Resistance forces came to Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani to seek his permission to punish the Sunni tribe. Re; Federal Government Allow Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky To Speak With The Press.

Haven heard information from Sheikh Zakzaky himself as regards the much celebrated media access the Sheikh got today, I felt a sudden urge to expose the lawless government of Mohammadu Buhari, the first president in the history of Nigeria that refused to obey several valid courts verdicts simply because it didn't favour him.

Firstly, Sheikh Zakzaky was not even aware that he was going to meet the media for the first time after 2years and a month illegal detention. He was actually told that he was going for routine laboratory test then they told him that some people want to see him and to his surprise the press was in front of him.

I find it shameful although the government doesn't have any shame left in them to trick Sheikh Zakzaky and fool Nigerians into thinking Sheikh was aware that he was doing a press conference as everything was staged managed and manipulated.

I urge President Muhammadu Buhari to obey court order and release Sheikh Zakzaky before we ground the entire fct with protests, he should never think that showing Sheikh Zakzaky on TV has ended the national and global protest. As much as we are law abiding citizens, we also want a law abiding president.

Femi Falana, activist lawyer, has reacted to the alleged death of Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency - The detained leader of Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, is alive but seriously ill, his lawyer has said.

The lawyer, Femi Falana, was responding to rumours of Mr. El-Zakzaky’s death, more than two years after he was detained by the Nigerian government.

Rumours of the death of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria spread on the social media on Friday, hours after the latest rounds of protests by his followers, demanding his release, held in Abuja.
Mr. El-Zakzaky and his wife have been detained without trial since December 2015.

They sustained gunshot wounds during their arrests, his lawyer said.
Mr. Falana said the bullet in Mr. El-Zakzaky’s wife’s body is yet to be removed.
“Clinically he (El-Zakzaky) is not dead yet. But he is very very sick,” Mr. Falana said.
“He has lost an eye, he is in the process of losing the other one. He has developed stroke in detention.

“Bullets in the wife’s body have not been removed since 2015,” he added.
He accused the government of violating the fundamental rights of the detainees.
“Regulation 12 of the Prisons Act that law has been there since 1917; even convicts can be handed over to their families for treatment when the state can no longer provide such,” he said.

A Federal High Court in Abuja in December 2016 ordered the release of Mr. Zakzaky and his wife. The government refused to obey the order.

Members of the IMN group have been staging series of processions across the northern states demanding the release of their leader and his wife.

Meanwhile, a security source quoted by PRNigeria, a platform that circulates statements from security agencies, claimed on Friday that Mr. El-Zakzaky was “alive and stable”.

“As I am speaking to you now Sheikh ElZakzaky and his wife are alive and stable.
“They observe their regular prayers and are in stable condition.

Since the arrest and detention of the Islamic Movement’s leader, his followers had organised series of peaceful protests in some cities in the country calling for his release.

Nigerian forces yesterday attacked peaceful protesters in different cities such as Abuja and Kaduna and arrest over 60 people. The security forces attacked protesters with tear gas and live bullets which 3 persons killed and tens injured.

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria on Wednesday 10th January, 2018 addressed a Press Conference on the health situation of Sheikh Zakzaky, who is being illegally detained despite a valid court judgement declaring his continued detention as unconstitutional and a breach of his rights.

The conference addressed by Prof Abdullahi Danladi of the Resource Forum, also talked of the recent spates of the renewed campaign to secure freedom for the ailing Sheikh to enable him obtain treatment where appropriate.

BEING TEXT OF PRESS CONFERENCE DELIVERED BY THE ISLAMIC MOVEMENT IN NIGERIA

ON THE DETERIORATING HEALTH OF THE ILLEGALLY DETAINED SHEIKH IBRAHEEM ZAKZAKY ON 10TH JANUARY, 2018
Ladies and gentlemen of the press,
Good Morning,
Following a rare visit to our Leader Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky by some family members, it was discovered that the health situation of the Sheikh has taken a nosedive for the worse. He had suffered what turned out to be a stroke but the authorities illegally detaining him had kept a blind eye to his dire situation.
It emerged that his health condition suffered severe knocks in the past week, such that he was critically ill and was in urgent need of the best medical attention possible, but the Buhari administration is negligent about it. He was found to have slurred speech, weakness of the right side of his upper and lower limbs and general weakness and consequently has been unable to walk or even stand for the past one week. The Sheikh is also known to be hypertensive for more than 10 years. His treatment in detention generally has been suboptimal.

The 67-years old was severally shot at close range during the murderous attack on his home by the military in December, 2015. In the process, the Sheikh lost his left eye and is on the verge of losing the right eye sequel to that brutal treatment meted out to him by the armed soldiers, which was made worse by the State Security Service denying him adequate treatment or the foreign medical treatment recommended by the local specialist who was officially brought by them to attend to him. Even the alternative arrangement put in place by the family of the Sheikh to bring eye specialists from either within or abroad to treat him in custody has equally been rejected without any justification.
To say that we are agitated by the latest development is to say the least a gross understatement. We are deeply concerned and disenchanted by the attitude of this administration towards our peaceful protests and demands that the Sheikh and his wife be released as ordered by a federal High court in Abuja. The Court has affirmed the Sheikh’s fundamental right to personal liberty guaranteed by Section 35 of the Constitution and Article 6 of the African Charter on Human and People Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act (CAP A10) Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

As we focus our attention on the deteriorating health of Sheikh Zakzaky, we are not oblivious of the medical condition of his wife, Malama Zeenah Ibraheem also. For reasons best known to the State Security Service, some of the bullets lodged in her body during the brutal attack of December 14, 2015, have not been extracted up till now. In the circumstances, she has been subjected to excruciating pain and agony, on a daily basis. Her life which is currently in danger may be saved and prolonged if she is allowed to receive adequate medical attention without any further delay. We therefore, urged Mr. Buhari to release the couple and allow them to seek proper medical attention.

To this end, we have started a series of peaceful protests across the country, to demand an immediate and unconditional release of our leader and his wife to enable them get the proper medical attention they deserve. Since the start of these peaceful protests last Sunday 07/01/18, armed policemen have in a number of places heavily descended on the peaceful protesters killing two in Kaduna, injuring several others and arresting hundreds in both Abuja and Kaduna. We condemn in the strongest terms these barbaric acts by the Police on peaceful protesters who are rightly calling for the freedom of the Sheikh in the most peaceful of ways.
We are strongly appealing to people of conscience, human rights organisations, activists and the international community to prevail upon this administration to tread the path of justice and pave way for our Leader to go and look after his health properly.

#Sheikh_Zakzaky: The Buhari-regime’s Political Score-Card

The Muhammadu Buhari-led Nigerian government has turned into propaganda, blackmail and torture to achieve its political aims. The popularity of the Buhari-regime has dropped drastically to the extent that he was even booed during the recent Kaduna state visit. Only a few people are now interested in supporting zero-performance regime.

Of recent, the records of bloodshed in the country perpetrated by both state and non-state actors might have led to the death of thousands of innocent citizens since the coming into power of this regime. The brutality with which the killings have taken place especially by the state actors is with unalloyed impunity and suppression.
.
Taking the case of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) as a case study, president Muhammadu Buhari’s regime has turned the revered Islamic scholar into its political score-card.
.
The regime has segregated the Shi’a community and abused the fundamental rights of its members to meet up with its contract for the support it got from America, Israel and Saudi Arabia during the election that brought the regime to power.
The regime might have also received hundreds of millions of dollars in bribe from Saudi Arabia especially the Kaduna state government.
.
Globally the world has segregated into camps uniting interests together. One of such camps is that of America, Israel and Saudi Arabia. This camp in particular is in an all-out war with whatever it considers not in its interest. One of its major concerns is crushing the influence of the Islamic Republic of Iran anywhere around the globe.
.
This is because Iran has blocked the plans of Israeli superiority in the Middle East. It has created a wall using Hamas in Palestine and Hizbullah in Lebanon. Iran has destroyed ISIS in Syria which is receiving the backing of Israel and America and the funding from Saudi Arabia.
.
More so, the Shi’a Clerics in Iraq with the goodwill of Iran have crushed ISIS in Iraq which was earlier a den they have been using to terrorize the Middle East.
.
The trio decided to tame all what they see as Iranian influence anywhere across the globe. The Saudis descended on innocent Shi’a civilians in Yemen killing them in their thousands in the name of fighting war. They also murdered the leading Shi’a cleric in the Kingdom Sheikh Nimr an Nimr and placed the IMN on its list of extermination.

The Sheikh Zakzaky-led Islamic Movement is also seen as a very big threat to them especially that it is considered as the most formidable mass movement of the people in West Africa which they see as having Iranian influence because they are Shi’as.
.
Part of the plans they implement include engaging the services of stooges in countries of interest to implement their plans even at the detriment of the citizens. It is based on this that they agreed with the Buhari regime to eliminate the IMN. Their agreement is to kill Sheikh Zakzaky, disperse his followers and ban the Movement.
.
In doing this to serve the Imperialists’ interests the Buhari regime segregated the Muslim community along sectarian grounds. It over-looked the crimes of the Izala sect in particular in its claimed fight against corruption. It is known to all that over N500 million was given to the group from the arms procurement funds for which Sambo Dasuki is being kept in detention even against Court orders including the ECOWAS court.

The Saudis through the regime fund the clerics to propagate lies against the Shi’as to justify the regimes clampdown on the IMN. The IMN leader is in illegal detention also in contempt of court by the government.
.
During the attack and arrest of the IMN leader he was shot severally by the Army and injured to the extent that he lost an eye and the mechanical function of an arm. The remaining eye, which is hardly functional, needs expert medical attention.
The Nigerian government is torturing the IMN leader by refusing him medical attention to the extent that his health condition is deteriorating by the day. This is even as a Federal High Court has ordered his unconditional release from illegal detention.

With the situation on ground, there is likelihood that the Buhari-regime is fearful of a woeful loss and disgrace in the coming 2019 elections. Hence it is holding Sheikh Zakzaky in illegal detention to appease the Izala sect and hold on to their support for the next election. More so, it is keeping him as a score-card they could use to create state of emergency in the country to be able to hold on to power indefinitely.

The Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai on his side is working hard to see that he instigates IMN into violence using the police. The police clampdown on peaceful protests of the IMN members killing them at will. Their intention is for the IMN to turn violent so that they could suspend electoral processes and cling to power indefinitely.

Just as the government has not given any genuine reason for the attack on the IMN and killing of over 1000 of its members over two years now, it has also not given any genuine reason for the continued illegal detention of the IMN leader Sheikh Zakzaky. This is even as the health condition of the leader is deteriorating and they are deliberately refusing to give him treatment with the intention that he dies. There could even be possible attempts at his life and his health condition might have been worsened by them.

But one thing for sure is that there is nothing the Buhari-regime can do that will make the IMN to lose focus to the extent of engaging in any form of violence to achieve its mischievous plots. The IMN will definitely continue to resist all forms of suppression and impunity through all available peaceful means.

PRESS STATEMENT

*SHEIKH ZAKZAKY IN URGENT NEED OF MEDICAL ATTENTION*

From a rare visit to our Leader Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, it has been confirmed to us that his health has suffered a severe knock in the past two days, such that he is critically ill and in urgent need of the best medical attention possible. We have seen this coming because of his age – almost clocking 67 years old, and the several gunshots wounds he sustained during the murderous attack on his home by the military in December, 2015.

To say that we his followers are agitated by the latest development is to say the least. We are deeply concerned and disenchanted by the attitude of this administration towards our peaceful protests and demands that the Sheikh and his wife be released as ordered by a federal high court in Abuja. It seems those holding our Leader captive are just waiting for time to kill him, since Allah has rescued him from their attempt to kill him using their military might.

The fact that for the past two years our Sheikh has endured all the mental and physical torture he has been subjected to by the Buhari administration is enough a miracle from Allah the Almighty. He has been shot at close range, for him to die, but he survived it. He has been denied proper medical care, but he still carries on. A vigorous campaign of calumny against him has been mounted by his detractors, but he still enjoins the tumultuous support and sympathy of millions of people. This is a miracle they don’t want to admit, but which is very clear to all discerning people.

The Islamic Movement do hereby unequivocally call on the federal government to listen to the voice of reason and release our leader Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky to go and look after his failing health. It is foolhardy for the government while being contemptuous of a court order releasing him; he is denied access to a better health care.

We are appealing to people of conscience, human rights organisations and the international community to prevail upon this administration to tread the path of caution and justice and pave way for our Leader to go and look after his health properly. Nothing short of this will calm our frayed nerves.

Peaceful protests were held to sensitised the public of our plight in various cities across the country on Sunday, January 7, 2018. More are coming until our demands are met.

My attention was draw to the assertion of Dr. Abdullahi Gadon Kaya that Nigerian Shia community is more affluent than their brotherly Sunni community. This is grossly incorrect and I will state reasons that debunk this false assertion.

After President Buhari brutally slaughtered 1000+ Shia children, women and men in Zaria and wickedly dumped the dead bodies in mass graves at night to bury the evidences, they launched massive campaigns of calumny and demonization against Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, The Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Shia Islam and Iran. One of their fraudulent lies was that Iran is funding IMN programs and activities. We openly challenge them to provide proof but till date they have failed to provide a single proof.

Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky always harp on hard work, economic independence and honest living. No member of the Islamic Movement has ever been convicted of corruption by any government ministry or agency. The 1000+ innocent Nigerians President Buhari brutally murdered in Zaria were hard working Academicians, Engineers, Teachers, Doctors, Nurses, Technicians, Craft men, Business men and women etc. President Buhari butchered 1000+ innocent Nigerians in Zaria then dumped their dead bodies in mass graves to bury the evidences.

Nigerian Shia community are like all Nigerian communities presently suffering from an Economy under recession due to the clueless economic policies of President Buhari's regime. Today the Islamic Movement in Nigeria under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky is facing huge challenge of taking care of the 1,973 Orphaned children of #ZariaGenocide and 400+ Widows. These unfortunate Orphans need to be adequately taken care of and provide with quality education as Buhari's army brutally murdered their parents and Elrufai wickedly dumped their dead bodies in mass graves at night to bury the evidences.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is not sectarian and religious bigotry is not among the traits of the Iranian government. During the tenure of former President Goodluck Jonathan, there was widespread rumour and accusations against Gen Muhammadu Buhari for being #BokoHaram's sponsor mainly because:

1. A statement attributed to him that he'll make Jonathan's government ungovernable.
2. His appointment by Boko Haram to represent them alongside others in negotiations with Federal Government for possible ceasefire.
3. A video that went viral instructing his supporters to kill anyone that touches ballot box.
4. The post election violence perpetrated by his supporters across Northern Nigeria for loosing election in 2011 presidential race which led to the killing, lynching & burning Christian citizens alive. Destruction of properties, desecration of holy sites & injuring many.

Despite these facts available, I was still doubting if this man is 100% responsible for all these & more. Barely 6 months into the office, there was a genocide in Zaria by the Nigerian Army which left 1000+ taxpayers killed, numerous injured, countless imprisoned, holy sites demolished & properties worth hundreds of millions destroyed. #ShiaGenocide is a BokoHaram agenda and only ISIS and BokoHaram can execute what Buhari's army did in Zaria against Shia civilians. As if that was not enough, the clamp down was extended across the northern region with similar stories everywhere. We have being watching you through your Twitter handle, Facebook and other social media and you have being engaging in subversive activities against the government. For your own good stop. This is a warning for your own good. Next time, there will be no warning. We know your house, we know what you do, we know everything about you."

Immediately after the brutal & inhuman #ZariaGenocide by President Buhari, one of my childhood friends who is Sunni rushed to my house & asked "Are you going to take up arms against the regime to avenge 1000+ of our brothers and sisters brutally murdered by the Nigerian Army?"

I answered my Sunni friend that despite the monumental savagery and monstrous barbarism displayed by President Buhari via the Nigerian Army during #ZariaGenocide, the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) will not take up arms against the regime.

I told my Sunni friend that this decision is not because getting sophisticated weapons or raising an avenging army is difficult but IMN leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, ordered IMN to go to court and seek redress for the heinous crimes and atrocities of Zaria genocide.

My Sunni friend was still not convinced, he accused me of doing Taqiya to hide secrets. I insisted on my answer to him. He told me that if IMN is a predominantly Sunni group, they will take up arms against the Nigerian state to avenge the inhuman genocide by the Nigerian Army.

I told my Sunni friend that at the peak of #ISIS terrorism in the Middle East, some friends in the Middle East suggested to me that why can't we send 1000s of youths to gain military experience in the fight against ISIS. I told them Sheikh Zakzaky will not support that.

The Shia community of Pakistan have the #Zainabiyyon group fighting against ISIS in Iraq and Syria & the Shia community of Afghanistan have the #Fatimiyyon group. But the Nigerian Shia community with millions of people do not have a single person all thanks to Sheikh Zakzaky.

Then why will the Nigerian regime attacked such an epitome of peace, tolerance and peaceful coexistence? Why did President Buhari sent the Army to the residence of Sheikh Zakzaky where they brutally murdered his 3 children in his presence and burnt down the whole house?

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria successfully commemorated the second year of the Zaria massacre in Abuja between 12th and 14th December, 2017 with series of activities ranging from rallies, processions, advocacy visits, and public as well as media engagements. The events loudly called for the immediate release of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife from illegal detention. Both are being subjected to unconstitutional denial of their freedoms for the past two years despite a Federal High Court judgement. It was the first time IMN was holding such events for three days consecutively and it was unprecedented.

Except for the first day when policemen attempted thwarting the procession from reaching its destination, the Three Arms Zone where letters were to be delivered to the leadership of both Chambers of the National Assembly, there was no serious inimical occurrence. That the occasion was peacefully done over these three days puts to shame all purveyors of violence, whose main aim, had always been to portray us as a violent group. This is only a further evidence of our peaceful disposition contrary to these agents of doom.

To this end, on behalf of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, we extend a very hearty thanks to all those who turned up en masse for all the activities. Particular mention must be made of Human Rights groups, activists and various local and international media houses for gracing our important activities for the second year commemoration of the Zaria genocide. We cherish their support and passions for justice for Zaria pogrom victims and for the unconditional release of Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife as well as other prisoners of conscience still being held unjustifiably at various detention centres across the country.

We are individually and collectively resolved to keep the fire burning and shall not relent until the total freedom of Sheikh Zakzaky is achieved. We will not leave any stone unturned until our all our members also being detained for no other reason but their faith, are freed. We will not rest on our oars until those who perpetrated this heinous crime against us, are brought to book in our local courts and at the International Criminal Court at The Hague.

Arkwright said it was time the reports of the incident is implemented. Arkwright tweeted: “It is two years since the #Zaria incident when some 350 Nigerians were killed by the military. Since then there have been several investigations, reports and recommendations. But a number of recommendations remain to be implemented. We call for accountability on all sides.”

The soldiers travelled with 100s corpses they brutally murdered in Zaria for more than 70 KM at night and brought them to Mando, outskirt of Kaduna, dug a mass grave then buried their victims.

Among those the Nigerian Army brutally murdered during #ZariaGenocide were 193 children, 293 women with 29 of them pregnant. Few months-old infants were among the victims. Infants were burnt alive during Zaria genocide by the Nigerian Army. They were singing and dancing while perpetrating these heinous crimes and wicked atrocities.

While in responsible societies the military protects and defend civilians, save then from dead and destruction, in Nigeria Buhari sent the Army to Zaria and they butchered 1000+ children, women and men then dumped the dead bodies in mass graves at night to bury the evidences. Nigerians should please ask President Buhari why did he brutally murdered 1000+ Shia civilians in Zaria and dumped their dead bodies in mass graves? Which agenda was he serving? Why brutally murdered 100s innocent civilians then to celebrate with bloodthirsty Arab savages? Why bombed and destroyed the Shia Islamic center Husseiniyya? Why killed 3 children of a man then illegally detained him and his wife for 2 years? Why all these monstrous inhumanity and monumental savagery on Nigerian Shia community? Nigerians should please continue to ask these questions until the victims and families of victims of #ZariaGenocide get justice.

On a final note, only bloodthirsty murderous terrorists and barbarians will slaughter 100s of innocence civilians in less than 72 hours. And this is what evil tyrant Buhari and his gang of mass murderers are.

#ZariaGenocide: Second Year Anniversary

“The true horror of what happened over those two days in Zaria is only now coming to light. Bodies were left littered in the streets and piled outside the mortuary. Some of the injured were burned alive,” -Amnesty International

On 12th - 14th December, 2015, President Buhari sent the Nigerian Army to the ancient city of Zaria where they brutally and inhumanly slaughtered 1000+ Shia infants, children, women and men. Some of the victims were burnt alive, some were buried alive in Mando mass grave, pregnant women were shot in their stomachs while other women were shot in their private parts and their breast stabbed with riffle bayonets with the murderous soldiers chanting "No Shia in Nigeria".

The London-based Human Rights organization, Amnesty International, wrote a comprehensive report on the Zaria genocide titled "Unearthing the truth: Unlawful killings and mass cover-up in Zaria". The report contains shocking eyewitness testimony of large-scale unlawful killings by the Nigerian military and exposes a crude attempt by the authorities to destroy and conceal evidence.

The Amnesty report stated: "After the incident the military sealed off the areas around al-Zakzaky’s compound, the Hussainiyya and other locations. Bodies were taken away, sites were razed to the ground, the rubble removed, bloodstains washed off, and bullets and spent cartridge removed from the streets."

A witness described to Amnesty International what he saw outside the hospital mortuary on the evening of 14 December: “It was dark and from far I could only see a big mound but when I got closer I saw it was a huge pile of corpses on top of each other. I have never seen so many dead bodies. I got very scared and run away. It was a terrible sight and I can’t get it out of my mind.”

Two years after the massacre the families of the missing are still awaiting news of their loved ones. A full independent forensic investigation is long overdue. The bodies of the mass graves must be exhumed, the incident must be impartially and independently investigated and those responsible must be held to account.

The Buhari administration refused to conduct an impartial investigation on the Zaria genocide because the Nigerian leader ordered the inhuman massacre. On 18th December, 2015, four days after the massacre the king of Saudi Arabia called President Buhari on phone and celebrated the inhuman massacre of 1000+ innocent Nigerians. Zaria genocide was an evil imperialist agenda that has the Saudi regime as front. Brutal killings and massacres of the Nigerian Shia minority did not stop with Zaria genocide. Shia civilians were slaughtered in Kano, Kastina and Kaduna state.

The soldiers President Buhari sent to the residence of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, brutally murdered his 3 children in his presence, killed his Nephew, burnt his 70+ year-old elder sister alive, shot him 7 times, shot his wife 4 times and burnt down the residence. Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife are in illegal detention incommunicado since then. A competent court ordered their freedom last year December but President Buhari refused to obey the court order. Massive protests and campaigns are ongoing in Nigeria, other African countries, Europe and Asia for the unconditional release of Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife.

Due to the deliberate attempts of President Buhari and the Nigerian regime to cover-up the Zaria genocide, the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) reported the issue to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Hague. ICC has commenced investigation into the Zaria genocide. It is our hope that one day the murderous criminals who brutally slaughtered 1000+ innocent Nigerians and wickedly dumped their dead bodies in mass graves at night to bury the evidences will be prosecuted.

On a final note, heartfelt condolences to all the families of victims of the inhuman and brutal Zaria genocide. God grant us the fortitude to bear our huge losses.

How I was burned, battered and shot by Nigerian Army during #ZariaGenocide

This is the miraculous survival story of a man who was locked up in a room along with many others and the room set ablaze by Nigerian army. His burning body was battered, then shot!

My name is Mahdi Goronyo, a Nigerian from Sokoto state.

On the 12th of December, 2015 I went to Zaria in the company of many others for the purpose of attending a religious event of flag off of the auspicious ceremony of birthday of the Prophet (S). Before we arrived, soldiers from the Nigerian Army had shot and killed in Hussainiyyah, the venue of the occasion, and maintained a siege. We, like hundreds of others like us, therefore went to the Gyellesu residence of our leader.

We monitored what was happening at Hussainiyyah via calls, SMS, WhatsApp calls, messages and whatever. We prayed for the safety of those trapped in Hussainiyyah, not knowing that our own calamity was just hours away!

The Nigerian military arrived the Gyellesu neighborhood about 10:00PM, and announced their arrival with sounds of gunfire many kilometers away. There were many people, who like me, came to Zaria initially to attend the flag hoisting ceremony, which symbolizes the start of the month in which our Prophet (S) was born. Over two thousand people converged at the residence of Sheikh that eventful night.

Initially as the soldiers shot from afar, corpses and victims were brought to where I was. Soon after, the sounds of gunfire became louder and appeared much closer and more sporadic as the number of victims increased. I wondered how the situation was in about a dozen other places around the Sheikh’s compound where victims were taken to. After a while, I noticed that the number of victims – corpses and wounded – being brought to our location had dwindled significantly as those ferrying them got wounded or killed as well. This situation continued unabated all through the night. A few of us survived till the next day.

In the course of the night, sounds of explosions punctuated the heavy gunfire and the Soldiers had already gained access to the Sheikh’s compound. They had set ablaze many structures in and around. Heaps of corpses littered the compound and there was no escape for us. I was in the company of a few others.

Suddenly, we came face to face with the soldiers. They pushed us into a room and shut the door. They set the room ablaze with us inside. There was intense heat and smoke. Splinters of fire fell on us as the roofing ferociously burned. Soon, my clothing’s were also on fire. I had on me layers of clothing, but all were completely burnt. The pain was excruciating as my skin was being charred. Almost every part of my body was burnt.

When the door of the room burnt and collapsed, opening the room, I noticed that the soldiers kept watch, as if they wanted to be certain that we were all burnt alive. I rushed out to escape the suffocating smoke in the room. On citing me, one of the soldiers barked an order, “Come here!” I replied him, “You too, come here!” He came with so much scorn and vengeance, and used the butt of his gun to continually hit me until I was no longer having any sign of life in me. Soon after, the thick smoke from burning people choked me and I coughed. On hearing the sound of the cough, he returned to me and said, “you are not yet dead?” I replied that my life is not in his father’s hands. On hearing that, he raised his gun and shot me pointblank at a very close range on my stomach. When I came round, I saw myself on the hospital bed.


I don’t know what happened to those I was with. They probably were burnt alive.
