Sincere9gerian: I think he allowed himself to be distracted by the PDP versus APC politics. He was more like an APC chieftainThat's the point! He allowed himself to be distracted with politics. Instead of seeing a simple solution to the downward trend of the naira, he simply stock to defending the naira with the reserve with resultant depletion. It was the same mistake Sarah Alade continue with. Seems Emiefile will make a fine CBN chief. |
(CNN) -- People wearing Islamic-style clothing and large beards are banned from riding public buses during the Xinjiang Sports Games in northwestern China, a Communist Party-run newspaper reports. The ban went into effect Monday in the city of Karamay, in the country's restive northwestern Xinjiang region. It applies to passengers who wear veils, large beards, as well as three types of Islamic dresses -- including those with the star and crescent symbol -- according to the Karamay Daily , a newspaper affiliated to the Chinese Communist Party. Dozens of public bus stations in the city will be manned by security personnel to conduct checks. Xinjiang attacks shifting to civilians Veils will also fall under the ban. The bus ban is being touted as one of a number of a security measures as the city hosts the 13th Xinjiang Sports Games, a large event in the autonomous region, the paper said, citing the event's organizing committee. The ban will be enforced through August 20, when the Games come to an end. Officials said those who violate the ban will be reported to the police, the paper reported. Uyghur rights groups have criticized the measure, calling it a "green- light" for racism. "Officials in Karamay city are endorsing an openly racist and discriminatory policy aimed at ordinary Uyghur people," Uyghur American Association president, Alim Seytoff said in a statement. "The concern is officials feel they can flaunt the laws of China in order to implement Xi Jinping's one year anti-terror campaign that appears more and more to be a wholesale onslaught against the Uyghur peoples' religious beliefs and practices. "What this bus ban tells us is that Uyghurs in China have fewer rights than other citizens, even in their homeland, and that it green- lights discrimination against Uyghurs by ordinary Han Chinese." Dozens of public bus stations in the city will be manned by security personnel to conduct checks. The ban on bus riders wearing beards and Islamic-style clothing does not specifically single out Uyghurs, but its language clearly points to them as potential targets of the restrictions. It comes about a month after the Chinese authorities in the region banned students and civil servants from fasting during Ramadan, the Muslim holy month. In recent years, the Xinjiang region has seen an uptick in violence between Uyghurs and Han Chinese over economic and other issues. Last week, nearly 100 people -- most of them "terrorists," according to state media -- were killed in an attack in the region. A total of 37 civilians died, and police "gunned down 59 terrorists," the Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua reported, bringing the death toll to 96. There have been numerous attacks in the region, where tensions are simmering between Uyghur Muslims, a Turkic people, and Chinese Han people. A Muslim separatist group founded by militant Uyghurs has been blamed for terrorism in the area, the Council on Foreign Relations explains. Xinhua said the "mastermind" behind the attack last week "had close connections with the terrorist organization," known as the East Turkestan Islamic Movement. Karamay is a resource-rich city of some 450,000 people located in northwest Xinjiang, which has a dense Uyghur population. edition.cnn.com/2014/08/06/world/asia/china-beard-ban/index.html?hpt=hp_c5

But its not too early to send it to there citizens in Africa. Africa don suffer!!! |
iamord: well you are right.. this present government has been very corrupt . and seem to have poor economist and thinkers.. well I believe that what ever decision will be in the interest to suite the country.. so with time there will still be a way out.. but at this stage I am tired of saying that a lot of the thing s we import can be home grown and processed.. cos the people in power seem to be deaf and blind.. but I am optimistic that Ghana will still cone through. . speaking on leveraging on the support of Nigeria.. so u see how we all behave on naira land.. I believe this is how the ECOWAS is... just that its formal and sugar coated.. there is no unity amongst us.. what's the state of intra trade between us both . we are both fighting on the line there is no hope on that.. till Africans learn to unite to fight one common enemy . . for now its on s Oyo levelI usually believe there are some level of cooperation between ecowas already in terms of trade though mostly informal. This can be seen between nigeria and Ghana expecially in the areas of Nollywood and ghollywood, small scale businesses and some large scale also like the west african gas pipeline that supply Ghana and few nigerian banks and telecom firms operating in ghana. Forget all these banters and insult that go on here on Nairaland, Nigerians do it even between themselves. what's on ground is a different picture completely. The only issue is, most of the inter african trade should be more formal rather than the mostly informal trading going on which is not capture in member countries economy. Sometimes I tend to think that the seed of Ghana economic problems where sawn from the last administration. |
davitogreat: So what do you think happens to ecowas now?As it is, other ECOWAS member countries have sign the EPA already. All Nigeria could do now is to accelerate our industrial development to be able compete with foreign product. This is because, soon smuggle product will start flooding the Nigerian market even if we ban the importation of such into nigeria. |

Most people will be shocked at the sight of a two-year-old boy playing with a boa constrictor. But while other most mums and dads wrap their kids in cotton wool, Charlie Parker’s do the opposite and let him “play” with a string of dangerous animals, from snakes to alligators. And Charlie clearly takes it all in his stride, looking far from rattled as he comes face-to-face with a 10kg snake. The youngster’s legs may wobble under the weight of Pablo - a 2.5m boa constrictor - but the enormous reptile holds no fears for him. Charlie is already an expert snake wrangler and is laying claim to being Australia’s youngest wildlife ranger. He comes from a long line of animal lovers who own and run the Ballarat Wildlife Park in Victoria. Proud dad and park owner Greg Parker said Charlie comes from three generations of animal carers and has grown up around the sanctuary. And he hits back at critics saying his boy is never put in any danger. Greg said: “We’ve never purposely exposed him to the animals - he’s just got this obsession with snakes and lizards. It must be genetic.’ “We’re still shocked by his natural ability with the animals. It’s quite remarkable to watch - he has absolutely no fear of them and he doesn’t just handle them, he also has the knowledge. “His favourite animals are reptiles, he loves snakes and crocodiles “His favourite animal is Pablo the boa-constrictor, he’s 20lb and quite a handful for Charlie but he loves him. “He’s calm with them and handles them gently, he has a very natural way with them.” www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/charlie-parker-2-is-australias-youngest-1299526

iamord: I guess as much but on the Ghana case the present government have done nothing but wreck the system and it seems they got no back up .. so they have no choice but to go with it.. only if another political steps in or Ghanaians put more pressure on the governmentEven if another government comes in Ghana, it will be difficult to reverse the EPA. The will more or less have to live with it. ECOWAS is divided already, Ghana would have leverage on the support of Nigeria to reject it. But I guess it's kind of too late now. |

BedLam: A dollar earned is worth more than 5 dollars given....Abraham Lincoln.I like that! Exactly what Mahama and his associate fail to see. |
BedLam: China even fall my hand, I wonder why them no lobby.China doesn't have a formal trade agreement with ECOWAS as an economic block. But I think they have with the individual countries. The Europeans are smarter, a trade agreement with the economic block and a market size of more than 300 million people is much more appealing and over rides that of individual countries. |
BedLam: The worst pattern of slavery is offering yourself for the chains! I don't know what heads these leaders have, while I can discern Francophone countries has been lobbied by France, the case seems more opaque for me to see through why Ghana and co would want to tie them selves down! We are no longer in the era of physical chains, it's economic and mental slavery!I think those leaders where entice by the offer of grants and aid associated with the EPA. That's the only explanation I can come up with. |
atlwireles: Nigeria produces 77% of the West African GDP. Tomorrow some midgets will be comparing their miserable broke-a$$ nation with Nigeria. The very reason nigeria has the capacity to opt out. If nigeria where a small market it would have been practical impossible not to be blackmail into signing that devilish document. |
SantaMafia: Abeg leave Ghana out of it and face your front! What is your problem? Nigeria and Ghana are the largest economies in West Africa. The President of Ghana is the current head of ECOWAS. The guy went ahead to sign a document with other African head of state involve. A document that mortgage the future of West Africa industrially and you said we shouldn't complain. Are you for real? If those goods find there way into Ghana and other countries, what stop then getting smuggle into nigeria? I think you are the one that need to face his front. |
Dreal1247: When a country is economically colonized, the effect is poverty. They become accountable to the colonial masters. So true! And I don't just understand how these smaller African countries simply miss the point. Expecially our West african brothers such as Ghana. |
And someone would ask why the economy of other west African state are grumbling. I wonder what other west african leaders are thinking before signing that document of slavery. That is why a big, strong and prosperous Nigeria should be the aspiration of all Africans to mitigate the over bearing influence of these Europeans. |
By Franklin Alli The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), yesterday, hailed the Federal Government’s decision not to join other West African States to endorse the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between West Africa and the European Union, as this action would prevent the country from losing N208 trillion ($1.3 trillion) revenue. The Economic Partnership Agreement is a reciprocal preferential trade Agreement being promoted by the European Union to create a Free Trade Area (FTA) between the EU and the African, Caribbean and pacific Group of States [ACP] through six regional economic communities into which the ACP is divided’ Signing the EPA in its present form, would cost Nigeria alone $1.3 trillion revenue losses from finished goods coming from the European Union while the negative effects EPA would have on local manufacturing range from shutdown of local industries and job losses due to unfair competition. MAN, in a statement signed by its director general Remi Ogunmefun, said Our commendation is sequel to the briefing to stakeholders by the Honorable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, July 24, 201’4, where he reiterated the determination of Nigeria to continue to pursue the implementation of the Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan (NlRP), local content policies, and transformation in Agriculture sector amongst others. The Minister was categorical that based on the mission of Government in these areas, it is inconceivable that the Federal Government will ignore national interest, particularly genuine concerns expressed by stakeholders in the country and go ahead to sign the Economic Partnership Agreement. It will be recalled that the Summit of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government at their meeting in Accra, Ghana on July I0, 2014 approved the EPA and instructed the regional chief Negotiators to take steps to start the process of signing and implementing the agreement. Nigeria, at various stages in the EPA negotiation process, had voiced strong opposition to the agreement and raised concerns that the Agreement could only lead to deindustrialisation in West Africa, with serious economic and employment consequences for Nigeria because of her 60 percent share of the regional market and Gross Domestic Product (77 per cent). MAN opposition is also premised on the fact that from all parameters, West African States, including Nigeria are not at the same level of economic development with any European country to warrant the conclusion of a reciprocal trade relationship espoused in the trade agreement with EU. MAN is therefore advising that notwithstanding the status of EPA and ECOWAS Common External Tariff (CET), Nigeria should continue to insist on the incorporation of the 196 tariff lines which the country had earlier recommended for reclassification in the CET regime in addition to the urgent need to design appropriate instruments that will take care of the 241tariff lines that currently enjoy various levels of levies as protective measures in Nigeria’ Earlier, Chief Kola Jamodu, President of MAN, noted “no country can develop without protecting its industries; he added that Nigeria stands the risk of having its market flooded by European goods with resultant negative effect on our industries and economy” if the EPA is approved in its present form. www.vanguardngr.com/2014/08/nigeria-rejects-epa-avert-n208trn-revenue-loss/

delishpot: Chei, Naim dey tire me for naira land. We dey fight before ni? You ask I answer you, slap me with names! Fool, childish etc wetin I do you? Well. I no dey in the mood today. I go just move on from you.you won't understand how painful it is to see a colleague infected due to occupational hazard and possibly die and see pple defending government maltreatment of medical professionals expecially doctors. |
dabossman: You just ruined your argument with the bolded. No one is ordinary. Those ordinary passengers are the patients who pay the hospital bills that pay doctor's salaries. Those air hostesses may just be the ones to save your life if you ever end up in an air mishap (God forbid). You can make your point without belittling others. Thanks! noted! |
delishpot: Chei, gone are the days. I am a new person now.I am not interested in your first post. I am interested in the post I quoted. It can be very annoying when some group of individuals take it as a past time to criticise doctors and called them greedy when the hadly have an iota of idea on the risk associated with the profession. And your nurses been expose to more risk is simply childish. probably nurses do perform surgical procedures on HIV infected patients now. |
delishpot: They know the symptoms. Once someone presents with it, they know. What is the big deal in wearing some coveralls, gloves and nose masks when handling a patient for the first time?what of doctors performing surgery on HIV patients or hepatitis patients the shouldn't demand for higher hazard allowance? |
delishpot: Should the passenger's also ask to be paid? Due to travelling hazards? Should the hostesses and other workers at the airport ask to be paid too due to occupational hazards. Can the nurses ask to be paid more too? Doctors are not the only ones dealing with risks here. They are even better equipped to protect themselves unlike the others. I. E air hostesses and school teachers. How idi0tic can one reason? nurses are paid # 30000 as hazard allowance while doctors receive #5,000 and ure here talking crab. Someone is exposed daily to the risk of HIV, hepatitis, various infections and now Ebola and dis fool is comparing it with ordinary passengers and air hostess. May thunder strike NMA if they call off dis strike witout our demand being met. |
And how much is the hazard allowance paid by Nigerian government? #5000 while nurses are paid #30,000 and one idi0t will come around and say nigeria doctors are greedy for going on strike to demand better care. |
Few years back Dangote met some tomato paste importers and advice then on a joint venture to open a tomato factory in kano giving the abundant raw material rotting away there. They flatly told him it is much cheaper to import than to manufacture locally. Dangote decided to do it alone. If tomorrow he becomes dominant in tomato paste sector, some people will start shouting Monopoly! forgetting that most Nigerian business men love the easy way out! |
Blaqsmith: Is Dangote the only private investor in NigeriaWhat stop others from investing in rice farming? While other business men see risk including Nigerian business men, dangote sees opportunities. And he's never afraid to take risk. Which single business man will take a loan of $9 billion us dollar to invest in an unstable country like Nigeria? The guy has gut, give him some credit! By the way there are other rice investors in nigeria like olams in Nasarawa and dominion rice in taraba and lots of smaller investors. |
YoursGEJ: Has he invested already or did they just sign to invest? Because if na ordinary signing, you go look for that investment you go tireIf it's Dangote, the guy is as good as his words. Check out his pass records. |
Nice one op |
LordMecuzy: Lol I Laff Which Party ruled Kano from 1999-2003? as for me PDP n APC na d same thing all Politicians are ThievesDiscrimination is said to be worse during Kwankwaso era than any other in the state. |
worthytalk: Sharrap there and stop spewing trash. There has been demand by Borno youths for SAS to be investigated even when he was in ANPP. As at when he was in ANPP and later APC the youths successfully ban him from entering Maiduguri promising to lynch him anytime he comes into the state, that explain his exile from the state. But his subsequent decampment to PDP changed everything. Now he has state support and the military in borno protects him the last time he was there which explain the reason for these public letter. But even at that, they nearly lynch him when he was in Maiduguri these last time making the military to open fire killing some youths in the process. |
vicadex07: OP pls Which party is that guy affiliated with before I make my comment...because justice in Nigeria nowadays depends your political party.previously a member of APC and considered a founder of BH by FFK. But recently decamp to PDP and suddenly became FFK "brother". |
