Politics / Building A New Seaport In Badagry by eleven(m): 11:10am On Sep 16, 2012
Monarch restates case for Badagry
Port

Unrelenting in his campaign for the
establishment of a modern seaport in
Badagry, Lagos State, a traditional ruler,
Oba Sejiro Olalekan Ogungbe James, has
again sounded a clarion call for the
actualization of the project.

The youthful first-class royal father, the
Aholu Henwa Okiki Arologbade II of
Kweme Kingdom, whose domain
encompasses Nigeria’s border with the
immediate neighbor to the west, Benin
Republic, was emphatic that Badagry is
overdue for a modern port.
“I have said it severally at various fora.
And I will continue to campaign for it,
until the dream is actualized. Badagry
needs a modern port. Nigeria needs a
modern port in Badagry urgently”, James
told Ships & Ports journalists in his
palace, on the sidelines of the
celebration of his third year on the
throne.

Tracing what he described as Badagry’s
critical roles in the socio-economic
development of Nigeria, James noted
that these were hinged on the maritime
trade.
“While we recollect with misgivings the
role of Badagry in the shipment of slaves
to Europe and the Americas, we,
however, proudly acknowledge the
important part Badagry played in
ushering Christianity into Nigeria”, the
monarch, who is the Vice-Chairman,
Council of Obas, Badagry West Local
Government Area, said.

He went on: “Badagry, as a port, helped
facilitate the siting of the first storey
building in Nigeria in the town. The
maritime endowments of Badagry
facilitated the arrival of the missionaries
who brought the first Holy Bible in
Nigeria. Even as Badagry facilitated the
ignomious trans-Atlantic slave trade, on
the positive side, Badagry was the
landing port for a large number of
returnee former slaves”.
Badagry, according to him, over the
years has not lost the many advantages
as a veritable maritime industry location.
“Badagry is now more than ever
abundantly qualified to have an
economically-viable port, considering the
on-going expansion of the Badagry
Expressway”, James said, adding: “Siting
a modern port in Badagry would totally
eliminate the perennial congestion at
the existing Lagos ports.

kayshow: Hello people,i applied for graduate driver job posted by dangote company, some days ago i received a an email from them,BUT i tried to open d file sent to me but was corrupted.please has any one in the house recieved such mail ,please share and give
Detail what was in the mail Τ̲̅hΩ̴̩̩̩̥nK̷̴̬̩̃̊§

Regarding the attachment not opening it could due to not improper file extension or you don't have MS office package (word, excel, powerpoint etc) on the system you are using.

For the file extension...try renaming the file with either a .doc (MS Word), .xls (MS Excel) or .ppt (MS Power point).

Example: Let say the file name is Dangote...try renaming it to Dangote.doc...if it's a word document it will open, if it doesn't open try Dangote.xls for excel format.

I hope this helps...Good luck!

Official: TUNDE ENAHORO Joins NOLBERTO SOLANO At Universitario de Deportes
Published: August 15, 2012

Source: Depor.pe
Nigerian striker Tunde Enahoro has signed a one - and - a - half - year contract with Peruvian Premier Division club Universitario de Deportes.

On Wednesday morning, Enahoro, who is relatively unknown in his homeland Nigeria, started training with his new teammates and had a chat with coach Nolberto Solano, who had requested for his services from Cobresol.

Enahoro, who could make his debut this weekend, will begin life at his new club with boundless enthusiasm.

He told depor.pe : '' It's a big step in my career. There is no greater joy for a player to come to a team as big as the 'U.

''I come to play and beat the opposition. Surely I must appreciate my teammates, but I have every desire to play now. I do better as a striker, although I have played as a winger, and even playmaker.''

Enahoro started his career in CF Torrellano in the second division of Spanish football. There he played from 2008 to 2010. In the 2011 season, he moved to Cienciano of Cusco where he scored only a little.

At the beginning of this year, Enahorro arrived Cobresol of Moquegua where he netted four times. His last goal came against Alianza Lima.

Interesting topic.

Mine is Eccl 9:11
I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.

Isahiah 41:9-13 (Especially vs 10 & 13)
9: I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, 'You are my servant'; I have chosen you and have not rejected you. 10: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. 11: "All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. 12: Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. 13: For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

padiehh: Lets me try and explain electricity tariff in simple terms as possible, probably it might help.

Electricity bill is divided into two: The fixed component and the Variable component.

The variable component is made up of variable Operation and Maintenance cost (repairs, overhauls etc) and Fuel (Gas, coal etc) which makes up 90% of the variable component of the tariff and its usually pass through.

The fixed component is made up of the CAPEX (89%) and fixed Operation and Maintenance (e.g. staff salaries, insurance, NERC fees, taxes etc)
Electricity infrastructure (generators, turbines, transmission and distribution line, transformers etc) transform the energy present in your fuel e.g. gas to electricity and transmit the electricity to you house. Technically the electricity you use is fuel transformed, remember basic physic: energy cannot be created nor destroy but transformed from one form to another.

The variable component of your bill is mainly fuel (90% fuel). As electricity consumption increase fuel consumption increases, this is the unit you consume. This portion of your electricity bill can be managed by consuming less electricity or switching off you source...remember how you manage fuel consumption on your portable generators.

The electricity infrastructure is very capital intensive estimated at USD1M/MW to build. The banks usually fund this capital intensive project based on a payback term or say 10 - 15 years. The payback of this huge loan cannot be based on the variable component of the tariff as you and I might decide not to use electricity or go on vacation for 6 month. Therefore in order to guarantee loan repayment, profit (Return on equity) and other commitment such as salary, insurance, tax, NERC fee, security etc. there should be a guarantee component…your guess is as good as mine ….the FIXED CHARGE. grin

In a simple term the fixed charge is the cost of providing you the electricity supply infrastructure (either you use it or not) while the variable component (units purchased) is the cost of fuel/electricity you use.

For example your can take a loan from the bank to buy a generator for your house, either you use it or not you have to repay the loan with some interest to the bank…..That is the fixed charge. smiley If you decide to use the Generator, then you have to travel to the filling station and buy the fuel that is the variable component….the unit you buy from PHCN. grin

The fixed component usually calculated using lot of variables such as cost of infrastructure (CAPEX), debt term, interest rate, gearing ratio (debt and equity portion), inflation rate etc.

I hope I am able shed light on the fixed portion of the electricity tariff.

Thank you for this insight on how energy billing system works.

Your explanation makes sense. I now understand the reason for the fixed charge and would educate others henceforth.

I wonder why NERCNG could not explain this to Nigerians.

Thank you.

@dedeike,

I don't agree with your UK/US energy cost comparison with Nigeria.

You didn't take into consideration the additional cost of fuel purchased by Nigerians daily to run their generators and the maintenance cost incurred to fill the gap when PHCN fails to provide power.

Do an analysis of this and add what you get to the current energy rate, I am sure Nigeria will turn out the highest paying country.

Don't wait for CLO or labour when you can make your voice heard directly.

Tweet your complains to @NERCNG.
Business / Re: PHCN Has A New Way Of Extorting Money From Prepaid Customers? by eleven(m): 10:06am On Jul 06, 2012
I have been taking the issue of the fixed charge thing with @NERCNG on twitter. After questioning them for some months they replied yesterday.

Please see their response below on the Fixed charge...We should not allow this to happen because it is an extortion.

Companies do not directly charge their fixed cost or variable cost to their customers independently.

They deduct it from their total sales which in this case is their service charge for services not well rendered.

Would need Management Accountants to help out on this.

Follow @NERCNG on twitter and add your voice against fixed charge.

I see it as a direct fraud against Nigerians.
