Some people don't understand that buying a bank does not mean buying it's assets and liability, you only buy the shareholding. The deposits were mostly the loans and other investment are derived from are not for sale, you assume them!

I am not an enemy of progress but I don't know what will happen in the next coming days but chairman of Apex bank said we should not panic yet. Google or check online newspaper for more information. You are right if the sustainability continues but then we are too greedy in Nigeria. Yes traders will restock but will the price commensurate with the currency appreciation? Our price regulation policies in market is still poor as retailers want to enjoy exorbitant profit

I like you objectivity, but our problem still steam from the fact that we don't do enough export of other product apart from crude oil and foreign investment inflow is still not as strong as it is suppose to be especially during OBJ's govt. The only reasonable thing for the govt to do is pump in the dollars at the risk of savings for the future and maybe when Dangote's refinery comes up, we might experience true improvement.

Very correct, CBN has always been protecting the naira since the increase in demand for consumption of foreign goods and crude oil price boom. It was relative during OBJ'S time because there was really a significant inflow of foreign investment (fx) and our demand for foreign goods was not as high as it is during GEJ and now.

I think if you compare our Import today and that of during OBJ's government more than ten years ago, the difference is very clear. Our standard of living had improve not necessarily through the right channels but our demand for foreign goods had almost doubled.
The reason why we didn't feel the financial crisis of 2006 to 2008 was because we had huge reserve close to $60 billion dollars and we were not shy of spending it.

When you sell petrol to your citizens at an outrageous rate of $0.01 per litre for over 20 years, it becomes impossible to maintain a concrete reserve especially when the price of crude oil goes south more than 70%. Only God knows what our situation would have been had the last government continued. Maybe Deziani, patience, yakubu and their friends would have contributed some of their dollars to boost our reserve.
