It was gathered that student leader Sibongile usually receives £85 each month in her bank account in food and book allowances at Walter Sisulu University in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, South Africa before the sad error saw her account blow to a staggering N392 million.
But people started raising eyebrows when her neat corn-row hairstyle was replaced with £180-a-time Peruvian weaves and she began wearing designer outfits and bought a brand new i-phone 7.
if only she had invested the money wisely,not only could she refund the exact money back to the authority but left with enough to enjoy.
She began flashing the cash kitting out her closest friends with new outfits and drinking £50-a-time bottles of whisky and jetting herself and her pals round the country to wild parties.
Suspicions grew when a till receipt from a local SPAR shop was leaked showing that she had £810,000 in her account and her wild spending became more lavish and talked about.
She was finally outed by Samkelo Mqhayi, deputy branch secretary of the South African Students Congress (SASCO), who reported her to the National Students’ Financial Aids Scheme.
He told Herald Live: “She threw surprise birthday parties for her friends and showered them with expensive gifts and flew them to events where she bought the best seats.
“When the SPAR receipt was leaked showing a balance of R13.6-million (£810,000) in her account I called NSFAS and they checked their records and confirmed that the initial amount was R14-million (£850,000)".
By the time they reigned her in after her two-and-a-half-month spending spree they discovered she had been blowing £666 a day which is a staggering amount in South Africa.
The total missing from the account is £50,000. A fellow student said: “She went from a hard up, humdrum run-of-the-mill student to one who was leading a lavish lifestyle and seemed to have no bottom to her purse and lived the high life.
“She became very glamorous in beautiful dresses with all the accessories and we thought she must have won the Lottery. She must have thought she had won it too when she got that cash!”.
In a Facebook post Miss Mani claimed she had reported the error to the authorities.
She said: ”Today my personal life has become a social media scandal. I have been named and shamed in public. Today, I am a bad person, a person who stole the money of students.
“With that being said, and being named a thief, but as we all know in every story there is truth and there are lies with the very same story”.
She said she was not denying anything but would tell her side later but she has fled the campus and gone into hiding and shut down her Facebook page.
Miss Mani told the Daily Daily Dispatch: ”It is very clear that I didn’t make the error”.
Walter Sisulu University spokeswoman Yonela Tukwayo said the £850,000 payment did not affect other students saying: "All students who were due to receive NSFAS payments got them.
“She will have to repay the money”.
Intellimali chief executive Michael Ansell said: ” Legal action will be taken against the student. A forensic investigator had been appointed”.
The university has 30,500 students of whom 18,000 are funded by the NSFAS who are meant to spend their monthly grants on food and books.
Legal experts have said Miss Mani could face a charge of theft.

We southerners should not be selfish,there was a time when the north carried this nation on it's shoulder too before oil was discovered. Indeed, under the Revenue Allocation formula of the First Republic, it was the North that benefitted financially from the contributions of the other three Regions and not the other way round. It will be recalled that by Section 140 of the 1963 Constitution, 50% of oil proceeds went to the Region from which they were extracted, 20 % went to the Federal Government, and 30% was paid into a Distributable Pool. In the allocation of the 30% from the Distributable Pool Account, the North received a disproportionate share which effectively meant contributions from the other Regions. Thus, out of the 30% of the resources of all the four Regions paid into that Account, the percentage paid to each Region was as follows: (a)Northern Nigeria -40% (b)Eastern Nigeria – 31% (c)Western Nigeria – 18% (d)Mid-Western Nigeria -6% (Section 141, 1963 Constitution) Thus, at all periods, since 1914, the North has been and continues to be the major beneficiary of the financial output of the whole country. We must not forget what motivated the British Colonial Power to bring about the amalgamation of 1914. The reason behind the decision of the British Government to amalgamate the two territories (North and South) was purely financial or economic. The Northern Protectorate was not economically viable. It had become a great drain on the British tax payer. On the other hand, the Southern Protectorate was not just economically buoyant, it was producing surpluses every year. The British design was therefore to remove the Northern financial burden from its own neck and hang it on the neck of the hapless Southern Protectorate. According to Lord Harcourt, the British Colonial Secretary, unification of Nigeria demanded both “method” and “a man”. The man was to be Lord Lugard and the method was to be the “marriage” of the two entities. According to Lord Harcourt: “We have released Northern Nigeria from the leading strings of the Treasury. The promising and well conducted youth is now on an allowance on his own and is about to effect an alliance with a Southern lady of means. I have issued the special license and Sir Frederick Lugard will perform the ceremony. May the union be fruitful and the couple constant”. The comparative economic situation of the two halves of Nigeria has not changed in the last 100 years. Rather, the economic power of the South has continued to increase vis-à-vis the North. This explains the fierce opposition of the Northern elites to true federalism, and a National Conference, which might bring this about. On the issue of funds and funding of the Nigerian Federal Government, states and local governments, I think the Northern political and intellectual elite should be grateful to the South, particularly the Niger Delta, the great provider. I'm a minority even in my state, so I really don't care who rules this shithole, but one thing for sure is, the Fulanis were the ones that United the North, making the region a strong force. So, I give it to them, I'm happy with the status quo in the North, because, we're mostly one people, Islam and Hausa unites us, so a minority like me can maneuver. But. At a national scale is not the same, I'll like the country to be free from shackle of an oligarchs, I want this country to be land of the free, with zero marginalization towards particular ethnic group. Doctors and all concerned nairalanders, I really need to know if there is any treatment for itching especially after morning bath. I have used up all means known to me including, bathing hot water, applying aboniki after bath, etc. I brought this to nairaland believing to get a lasting solution. Thank you my good people. it might be eczema. i actually suffered same prob; mostly my back n laps itched. but when i took drugs that were intended to treat my facial pimples,it helped solve d issue. |

She is not desperate for marriage and therefore doesn't pretend to be what she is not. She has the potentials and qualities that if well guided, can make her a good specimen of womanhood and to add icing on the cake, SHE IS STILL A VIRGIN!
