Politics / Re: Governor Ayade Locks Out Civil Servants Over Lateness (Photo) by Elo4: 9:35am On Sep 15, 2022
This situation reminds of a story my friend told me about once, he said there was a time a newly installed commander of a brigade who is a brigadier General by rank gave an order that the barracks should be close by 9pm at nights. According him he said when ever there is a commander of a command or base is around his/her flag his flown except there was another senior officer whose rank is higher than that of the commander, by that time the senior officer flag is flown instead of that of that of commander of the base to signifile the presence of a senior officer. So in this case a major General was in the base at the time the commander gave this command he didn't inform senior officer about his new command that the Barracks be closed by 9pm with nobody going in or out, so one time the major General came back late at half pass nine and wanted to enter the Barracks the soldiers at gate informed him about the order and that they can't allow him inside except he could contact the commander. at that time the senior officer told the soldiers at gate not worry and they should carry out this order to the fullest and also keep him posted about the going in and out of the commander and that anytime the commander came late pass 9pm they should immediately inform him. So one day the Commander came late pass nine the soldiers at the gate inform him that he gave an order that nobody to come in to the barracks once it 9pm and that there another command from the senior officer that order should be carry out to the fullest , the commander gut angry and said to soldiers who is in charge and that he is the commander and that they should open the gate and so he forced himself in. then soldiers at the gate inform the the senior officer what has happened and he told them not worry, immediately the senior officer put a call to army headquarters millitary police department that the brigadier General (base commander) and told them what had happened. Immediately MP where sent to arrest the brigadier General for flouting his own commands(order) not only that he lost the command of the base.

Events / The Story Of A Nigerian Sailor Who Survived Under The Ocean For Three Day's by Elo4: 2:25pm On Apr 14, 2020
A Nigerian sailor who survived for almost three days underwater by crouching in an air bubble after his tugboat capsized has spoken about his ordeal.

Harrison Okene, a 29-year-old cook, was the sole survivor of the Jacson-4, which overturned after being battered by heavy swells last month. Eleven other crew members died as the vessel sank some 12 miles (20 km) off Nigeria's mangrove-lined coast.

"It was around 5am and I was on the toilet when the vessel just started going down – the speed was so, so fast," Okene said by phone from his hometown of Warri. Scrambling out, he was unable to reach an emergency exit hatch and watched in horror as three crew members were sucked into the churning sea.

The water swept him into another toilet as the boat plunged 30 metres into the freezing depths. Wearing only his underpants, Okene prayed as water seeped slowly but steadily into a 4ft sq air bubble in the cabin.

"All around me was just black, and noisy. I was crying and calling on Jesus to rescue me, I prayed so hard. I was so hungry and thirsty and cold and I was just praying to see some kind of light."

He had been underwater for almost 60 hours when he heard a hammering on the deck. A team of South African divers scouring the waters on a presumed body recovery operation were shocked to hear faint hammering in reply.

As a diver's light approached, Okene hesitated to swim outside the air pocket in case the startled diver might use a jack-knife on him. "I went to the water and touched the diver. He himself shivered from fear. So I stepped back and just held my hand in the waters and waved it in front of his camera so they would see the images above deck."

"The diver walked in and at the back there was an air pocket he was sitting in," Paul MacDonald, an officer on the support vessel wrote on Facebook. "How it wasn't full of water is anyone's guess. I would say someone was looking after him."

Once Harrison had been located, there were worries he would panic during the rescue, while his body had absorbed potentially fatal amounts of nitrogen. "His heart wouldn't have been able to pump [back on land] because it was just so full of gas," said Christine Cridge, medical director of the Plymouth-based Diving Diseases Research Centre , who advised the rescue team.

Okene was strapped into diving equipment, then led to a diving bell which took him to the surface, where he spent two days in a decompression chamber. "To survive that long at that depth is phenomenal. Normally you would dive recreationally for no more than 20 minutes at those depths," said a training consultant from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors.

Okene said, "They told me all the others had died and I cried because I thought I was the only one who had been trapped in the boat", his voice cracking. Despite suffering from nightmares and peeling skin, daily helpings of his favourite banga soup dish – a fish and palm fruit soup – have helped him feel much better, he said. He is planning to write a book on his experience.

"All the Australians have been on diving forums going, wow! But he could be absolutely fine from now on," Cridge said.

callthefred:
Going by your argument then PMB also did the wrong thing because there's already a stadium in Ogun named after MKO. Personally I think it's a very stupid argument and even more stupid views on the part of those saying UNILAG was a regional thing (Kola Abiola being the most stupid). Are you all for real? Do you know how many governors that school as produced? How could UNILAG of all schools be a regional thing?

We need to start thinking right in this country and leave stupid politics and quit being partisan. Ahmadu Bello University is in the North, Obafemi Awolowo University in the West, Nnamdi Azikiwe University in the east, so does that make them less national figures.

I'm Yoruba and I believe MKO deserves better even though he had his faults and I don't share his views but he was a hero in is right. That Abuja stadium hasn't hosted any reasonable event in a decade say for party primaries. If you must also think well, June 12 should have been MKO Abiola day not democracy day. We have Martin Luther King day in America and recognized by the US government, not a black rights day. This is a Greek gift for political points by PMB. Not done in good faith.

How my country men rate a stadium over a university says a lot about us and hatred to see beyond our nose o.

Make it MKO Abiola day and we will know you're serious. We already have May 29th as Democaty day. God bless Nigeria.

Brother you are fellow who have said the right thing

o what a shame, I wonder if people like her can't get admission then who can?

why most people here on these forum are saying she should go sit for another jamb.

I want to say how many of you people here on this forum can beat their chest and say that I scored 320 in Jamb in his or her fucking whole goddam life in this forums including the provost , vice chancellor, professors in OAU.

I wonder why we treat such things in our country with so much levity, is because most us of can't make such success that we are hell bent in raining causes on any persons who make such success such success.

I wonder why is it that jamb can't offer admission to some one who can't gets admission in his or her preferred choice to institutions for admission.

If I was in her shoe , I will asks therm to published the names of those offered admission in to that same course with their name, jamb score, states of origin. if they don't, then I kwn is frauds.

In other climes where eating three square meal is not a problem, money will not be an important factor while taking offer but in Nigeria where some people can't eat three square meal, money plays a major role. Moreover, our politicians have monetized everything. When you wake up everyday to news about politicians embezzling billions of naira, you will also be configured to think about money while taking offer.

To answer your question; for entry level position, consider money because you have to clean yourself and put some things in place but for experienced position, other things will come into play like benefits, career progression, leave etc cool

Anytime you open a school gate, you close a prison gate. School is very very important in human development. However, PMB is there for a bigger reason of celebrating Osun at 25 like he did when Ogun marked its own anniversary smiley
my dear u said that the President show up in event just because osun state celebrated 25 years of existence, may I remind you that anambra also celebrated 25 years about last month while didn't the president show up for the event also , don't u think it's because of the hatred to south east region that why didn't show up, may I also remind you of the President speech during his swearing in as president when he said and I quote "I belong to nobody and I belong to every one".

naijafox:

While Awolowo never trusted the Igbos, the north never trusted Awolowo and theYorubas. The northern oligarchy instigated crisis in Western Nigeria in the same manner President Obasanjo used the Uba brothers to instigate crisis in Anambra State. This crisis led to the trumped up charges leading to the trial and imprisonment of Awolowo . Reports has it that he was to be poisoned in prison before the military coup altered the state of affairs.

Awolowo was released from Calabar prison by Biafran leader Odumegwu Ojukwu and there was an agreement that while Ojukwu declares Biafra in the East, Awolowo would declare Oduduwa Republic in the West. The British establishment, sensing the dangers of Awolowo declaring Oduduwa Republic in the West, convinced Gowon and the north to checkmate Awolowo’s secessionist agenda by appointing him the Vice Chairman of Federal Executive Council. This strategy worked effectively and Awolowo was deceived that after Gowon’s tenure he would be given the opportunity of ruling Nigeria. Awolowo thus had to checkmate the Biafran dream to clear any obstacle to his ruling Nigeria while the north was looking for the right opportunity to throw him into the dustbin. In frustration, Awo resigned from Gowon’s cabinet when he realized he has been politically duped.

Awolowo quashed the Biafran dream while the northern establishment killed the Oduduwa dream and betrayed Awolowo’s presidential ambition thrice. This fact was aptly captured by a prominent Yoruba leader and Nigeria’s former minister of aviation Chief Femi Fani-Kayode while replying to a boastful statement by another prominent northern leader, Alhaji Usman Farouk on how the north dominated the Yoruba people and conquered the Niger Delta. According to Fani Kayode, "... the north literally begged Awolowo not to declare Oduduwa Republic and go the way of Biafra even though that was his original intention…Fourthly it was the support that the south west gave to the north that allowed Nigeria to win the war. Fifthly it was the lie that Gowon and the northern leaders fed to Awolowo that he would be made President of the country after the war and after being effectively being made de facto Prime Minister under Gowon during the war that got Awolowo to support them’’, invariably, the Igbos and Yorubas were effectively dribbled, divided, manipulated and overpowered.
Northerners were always wise when it came to politics

my brother what you said is all true but Awolowo was a greedy man. all he wanted is to be a President of Nigeria even before independence.
