You really ought to do something about these tribalism rants on NL. Never mind all the stories on 419 and Fraud, such tribalist hatred make Nigeria sound worst than hell.

Methinks you should ban anyone who dares to go there with their tribalist tripe much like someone on any other respectable forum would be banned for promoting racial hatred. Think about it. Don't you think it is time to use this forum to promote one Nigeria?

Read up on the history of Hong Kong. From my understanding that part of China was leased to the Brits

Hong Kong is the most developed part of China. If Hong Kong was that way as the result of the Chinese then how comes the rest of China isn't up to the Standard of Hong Kong? The Chinese knew exactly what they were doing when the leased Hong Kong to the Brits for 99 years because now they can take credit for it.

Under the principle of "one country, two systems", Hong Kong's economic and political systems differ from those of mainland China.[12] Hong Kong is one of the world's leading international financial centres, with a major capitalist service economy characterised by low taxation and free trade. Under colonial rule, it espoused minimum government intervention under the ethos of positive non-interventionism.[13] The Hong Kong dollar is the 9th most traded currency in the world

When the Brits left America, they very much left their descendents in charge. George Washington, the first president of America was a member of the British army and his grandparents were born in Britain. In short, all you have to do is go to the East Coast of America to see that the British never really left there.

What sorts of things are you interested in?

London is a very varied city and most trips can be tailored to suit your preferences.

If you enjoy the arts for instance then there loads of art museums. Science museums etc all free too. Then there is theatre land with live shows such as Oliver Twist (which I have yet to see) and the Lion King which encompasses an all Black cast. Truly a magnificent show!

If you like sport then football season is starting soon and you should be able to see some live games at Wembley. Then there is alslo Lords for cricket if you like that sport.

Check out of the O2 too to see if any of your favourite acts will be coming to town. World class Stars like Whitney Houston, Alicia, Keys, Beyonce and Prince often grace the stage there. There is also a smaller venue in the O2, Indigo2 where some Nigerian stars and comedians play to packed houses.

The list is endless.

Check out this link.

Hi Guys weather BANKOLE is on official assignment or not  it is absolutely wrong for BA to search him. Because he is currently the House Speaker and he has the

power to move any motion in the HOUSE, barring BA from operating in NIGERIA.

Can  BA or any Airline on earth search  the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi?

How is it wrong when the rules explicitly state that officials are only searched when they are travelling on their own time. If Nigeria did not send the Speaker to London on official duty then he is going there on personal business and so therefore has to be searched!!
Politics / Re: Why Bankole Disembarked from BA Flight by EloSela(f): 4:50pm On Aug 14, 2010
Akainzo:

Truly, the inter-government diplomatic rules state that the Speakers of sovereign countries are exempted from searches, but it is only when they are on official assignments.

Reading the accounts of the situation as stated by the Speaker's press secretary, I can deduce or postulate this:
1. Bankole was NOT on official assignment.
2. As standard in Naija, it was the aide that was carrying the bags to the aircraft.
3. The BA official demanded to search the bags being carried by the aide.
4. Bankole then stepped in to say the bags are his!

Unfortunately by the letters of the law, once the bags were carried by the aide to the aircraft, they MUST be searched as the aide has no diplomatic cover.

The mistake most Nigerian officials make, is that they assume that the usual Nigerian practice of the big Oga's boy also being covered by the Oga's aura is acceptable in the developed countries. That is a huge mistake!

Therefore the aisde not being covered cannot be exempted from being searched.

Thank you! Speaker was not official assignment and so should have been searched like everyone else. Who does he think he is? Even the Pilot flying the plane is searched! All this 'big mannisms' that these people like to display is making Nigeria look dumb!

It's an ancient law passed back in the day when wives were seen as property. Unfortunately it still exists today like many other irrelevant laws. Wives who are burned when their husbands leave them for another woman are still using it to get their own back at their husbands mistresses.

I think it is about time the scrapped the law as people will stray from marriages if they are not happy and it is unfair to blame another person for their actions.

shirley bassey is a relic of the past not because of her age but because of the type of music she sang.

You don't speak for everyone in the world and so you can't say who or who does not listen to that sort of musci. Shirley Bassey does Cabaret theatre style music, the genre that made Liza Minelli, Barry Manilow and Sinatra famous all over the world. Furthermore if no one listened to that sort of music there wouldn't be radio stations dedicated to it and it wouldn't be taught in colleges around the world. There also wouldn't be sell out shows on Broadway and London's theatreland because that is the sort of music that is played there, not your Lil Wayne's and Wale, lol!!! grin

As I said if Shirley is a relic of the past then the same can be said for anyone star over 60. With your logic you come across like a 16 year old. is that how old you are?

buzugee:

hun the question is 'who is the most recognised nigerian musician in the world. ok the average age of people in the world is about 35 years. this means that most of the people in the world are young. the older generation grew up at a period when global access to the media was not possible. this was the era of shirley bassey and as a result, her fame was only concentrated in britain. so even amongst her peers and contemporaries she is not well known all over the world because of the era she grew up in (no internet, no cable tv, no MTV, ) and amongst the young generation, she is not known at all. shirley bassey is a relic of the past. she is one of those people who you might have heard their names once or twice but you do not know who they are, what they did or what they look like. based on that, she is not the most recognizable nigerian. just because her music is sampled or she had a bond song does not make her popular. musicians and producers like kanye west make it their duty to listen to every genre of music so that they can get a song to sample. nothing to do with how famous she was. get it right now

Shirley Bassey is famous all over the world because she is the original James Bond singer and as you know James Bond is not just not concentrated in Britain. Again age and generation has nothing to do with this question otherwise we wouldn't be discussing Fela who is more or less the same age as Shirley Bassey. Is Fela a relic of the past? Please apply some common sense!

I don't even consider her Nigerian but there is no doubt that she is very famous.

Sade trumps Wale, Kele and Seal.

Sade recently topped the charts all over the world including the US with her latest release. In fact she sold over 500k of the latest album in the first week alone. To date the album which was only released in Feb has sold millions around the world. Just because you didn't hear her being interviewed and talked about in the US press it doesn't mean she wasn't.

The Fantasia's full account of what happened is all over the news, black American sites like this one and blogs. There are also plenty of people on those Black American sites who claim to know Antwan Cook and that he is a serial cheater who has cheated on his wife since they were married.

nobody of our generation knows shirley bassey. if you put shirley bassey in a lineup and you ask 20 people to pick her out, i bet you only 2 people will know who she is. even in britain where she had her most fame, no one really knows who she is apart from when she pops up every now and then on shows like the graham norton and jonathan ross show to jog our memory on what she looks like

The question wasn't specifically put to people of your 'generation'

Everyone knows who Shirley Bassey is as she is the original James Bond singer. Kanye covered her song Diamonds are forever not too long ago and topped the charts with it. Her songs are also covered on American Idol one of the most popular shows ins American History and has been made a Dame just like Liz Taylor.

However I wouldn't consider her a Nigerian as she never knew her Nigerian father who left the family when she was a baby in Wales and I don't think she has ever been to Nigeria before and I have never heard her refer to herself as a Nigerian.

Who is this Nneka and ASA people keep going on about and how are they measure as gloabl international artists such as the Beyonce's, Rhiannas, Kanye etc? What charts have they topped? What are their Sales figures, which million dollar blockbuster movie soundtracks have their song appeared in, what is their image, their style? which international magazines covers have they graced?

Do tell,

by the Sade ticks all of those boxes and more. In the 80s every black girl in America and Britian would wear their hair and paint their lips red like Ms Sade Au

I have heard Sade refer to herself as a Nigerian plenty of times even going as far as to correct someone who described her as Nigerian British. She is also referred to as Nigerian sometimes in the British and American press. It the BAND, SADE which is named after the lead singer which is referred to as British.

MOST RECOGNISED globally - well Nigerian artists are more diverse than we think.

Sade-Omo Ibadan, born and raised, her brothers family stilll lives there.

Yes, Lenny Kravitz, his mum was Nigerian, holds a nigerian passport, he got into trouble allot as a teenager in NYC, she had enough , sent him home to Surelere, Lagos, were he was schooled by his granparents.

Sade was born in Nigeria but left when she was 4 with her English mother. She did however spend her 21st birthday with her Father and grandmother in Nigeria.

Lenny Kravitz mother was NOT a Nigerian. I think her name was Roxi Poker, a Bahamian American who was an actress on the Jeffersons. A simple google search will give you that info. Please get your facts right before posting inaccuracies.
Music/Radio / Re: Who Is The Most Recognise Nigeria Muscian In The World. by EloSela(f): 11:30am On Aug 13, 2010
Sade is the most recognisable and famous Nigerian musician around the world.

Sade was born in Nigeria and although she left there when she was 4 she has always claimed to be a Nigerian. If you look on youtube you will see interviews where she proudly tells them how to pronounce her full name and what it means. Even if you go to her myspace page, her location is listed as Nigeria even though she really lives in England.

In the February issue of Ebony Magazine where Sade graced the cover she says that her favourite food is Egusi soup and recently when an American called her a British Nigerian, she corrected him and said that she was a Nigerian who just happened to have an English mother.

I don't think any Nigerian artist has managed to reach number 1 in the charts all over the world and also earn the top awards in the music world like Sade has. Sade also has people like Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland, Kanye West etc, music stars of today who look up to her and plenty of other people covering her songs. India Arie recently covered

No respect to Tuface but he barely scratches the surface of Sade has achieved and so in my opinion he would hardly be classed as an international star.

Fela is a Legend in his own right but he was not really a music pop legend like Sade is considered all over the world.  Fela was more of a political activist who put his words to music and so that is where is Legend status is based. He was never a big seller in the music world like Sade who has sold over a 100 million records worldwide and is considered to be Britain's most successful female artist.

SeanT21:

That is what this ugly LovePeddler gets for being a homewrecker. Can't believe she lives in my state.

And you are a picture of beauty I suppose??

Fantasia is no homewrecker. The only homewrecker in this scenario is the Antwan Cook who couldn't keep it in his pants. He was the one who was married with two kids, he took the vows and entered the marriage contract with his wife but he still openely pursued extra marital affairs with young vulnerable women like Fantasia.
He purposely went out of his way to deceive Fantasia, told her he was separated and that he lived alone in a different location away from his family and he even took her to that place.
The wife should concentrate on dealing with her husband and stop acting like Fantasia caused the breakup of their marriage because if you really lived in that state you would know that Antwan Cook is a serial cheater who has had numerous affairs before Fantasia even came on the scene.

Politics / Re: South Africa Deports 47 Nigerians by EloSela(f): 9:53am On Jul 28, 2010
playmode:

As a Nigerian who has been living in SA for more than 5 years this topic is pretty confusing. No reason was given for why these people were deported. That being said Nigerians commit a lot of crimes in SA and South Africans at the time discriminate against Nigerians in general especially South African men(white & black).

Many a times ,i have had to dish out a good azz whooping to South African men when they disrespect me for no just reason. The whites males talk to black males like they are talking to a goat and the black males address Nigerians in derogatory tone and refer to them as Kwere Kwere.

This is not to say that all South African are xenophobic because that will be just be wrong. There are many South Africans who love Nigerians ,who watch Nigerian movies and eat Nigerian food. The problem of xenophobia in south Africa is fuelled by the racist ,biased media of South Africa. I think something needs to be done to caution the way the media reports news.

During the world cup on E.T.V a new presenter said that 2 Zimbabweans and 1 Nigerian was arrested for allegedly robbing a foreign journalist. A few days later another reporter from E.T.V indicated that the 2 Zimbabweans had been taken to court to be tried. No mention of the Nigerian was ever made again. I sent an email to e.t.v asking what happened to the Nigerian that was arrested and why he was never taken to court. I never got a response from E.T.V.I also made several phone calls to E.T.V trying to get to the bottom of the matter but they kept transferring me from one department to another.

The truth of the matter is that E.T.v just decided to spice up the story and include an imaginary Nigerian in the crime. This is what the SABC and E.T.V does in SA to discriminate against Nigerians and cause more hatred between SA locals and Nigerians. This is also similar to what they did in the movie District 9 by portraying Nigerian as cannibals and our women as whores who engage other species in sexual intercourse. Needless to say the SA media and Movie industry has no respect for Nigerian. Almost very SA movie that has been released in the past 2 years have made negative references to Nigeria, just take a look at the movie “Jerusalema”. Nollywood never makes movies to diss SA, but SA movie makers think that they can insult Nigerians and portray us in a bad light whenever they choose to.

Like i mentioned above many Nigerians in SA are up to no good but South Africans themselves are full of hate. Africans need to work together to solve the problems of Africa. Hate is not the way.

@RSA, never thought i will say this but big ups bra, i am loving that pic, I hope our retarded president sees that pic and recoil in shame. You hit the nail on the head.

Why is it that Nigerians seem to have beef with every country they choose to emigrate to

In Britain. they label the govt  and media racist with a specific agenda against Nigeria and Nigerians
In SA, the Black South Africans speak to Nigerians like dogs. Make movies that portray Nigerian negatively.
In America, the Black Americans look down on Nigerians. Nigerians also label the US media racist with a specific agenda against Nigeria and Nigerians
In Italy, the Italians see all Nigerian women as whores and the Nigerian men like animals, ditto for the rest of Europe.
In China, the Chinese Police stalk Nigerian men on the street and lock Nigerians up without papers,

The list goes on and on and on

I am sure Nigerians in Heaven have issues with God sef. . .  grin

Isn't time Nigerians stopped pointing the finger and looked inward as to what their issues are instead blaming all and sundry? If that fails then perhaps they should stay at home where you will perhaps be treated better. Victim mentality will get you nowhere.

What surprises me is the fact that most of these Africans will claim to be educated and intelligent but at the same time they will allow a most times uneducated illegal immigrant posing as a pastor to abuse and sometimes injure their children.

This is the reason why I tend to stay away from African churches and I can be quite wary of those that attend them.

It is sad how some Black people can be so gullible. Remember the time when a pastor, Jim Jones in Guyana convinced hundreds of people most of whom were black to drink and give their children cyanide resulting in their deaths at one sermon?  Tragic!
