It's just the fear of juju that's the problem. The fact remains that every single claim by juju proponents is made with fraudulent intent. This fraud is now being used to to subject fellow Nigerians to slavery and forced prostitution.

If more Nigerians began exposing juju for the colossal fraud that it is, these hapless souls imprisoned by their fear, would not be afraid to expose the criminals enriching themselves on the back of fearful and poor Nigerians.

I have given my reasons as to why I dislike it, but it seems this is just not sinking in.

JayZ who is one of the most commercial rapper there is, even criticised the use of autotune. Surely, that is saying something?

I won't use autotune on my voice, nor will I encourage anyone am working with to do so. I have good enough reasons in my opinion to stand against it. smiley

I'm not sure if it's actually possible to be as dense as this but, then again you learn something new everyday. So I'm going to assume you really are that slow. Bear with me as I try to outline it as simply as humanly possible.

Now let's try again. Read Hamas's charter again slowly. Please stop bringing the Taliban or Al-Qaeda into this. They have absolutely nothing to do with this. Remember take it slowly, no rush. You can do it.
Ouch. It is not directed at me, but damn, that hurts.

Erm, they are talking about the belief and fear people have from not speaking out etc. But, since this is something that will go unnoticed, I trust nairalanders to not see the real story.
Music/RadioRe: Post Your Studio Or Tell Us About It! by ElRazur(op): 12:07am On Mar 02, 2010
How is my point baseless when one - Autotune is used as a disguise by today's artist to hide their not-so-great-voices? Two, most artist with good voice hardly use it - Mary J Blige, Lauryn hill, Michael Jackson etc. I suppose that in itself is saying something.  Finally, how can it have done more good when every one sounds the same and when the effect cannot be pulled off in a live setting?  Yeah what ever you say.

So you deny pirated fruity loop is been used alot? You deny fruity loop is not one of the most commonly DAW used in Nigeria? Nice.

Erm, if you say so. I do not have to prove myself. I am not one of those guys, so I won't keep dragging this. Anything you say.  grin

PS
Remember, time will tell if folks around here do accept criticism. Gosh the time was just too soon.

this your hatred for autotune is something else. some people dont have a good enuff voice, should they go and die cuzz u dislike autotunehuh
lil wayne voice is crap. tpain real voice is crap. young jeezy too. autotune vst changed these completely, now that is what i call ''voice solution '' instead of playahating on it. u need to hear some voices b4 u urself will recommend some pitch changing.
like it or not autotune is an advancement in music tech for some people.  lemme hear u rap first i will tell u whether u need autotune on your voice or not, i hope u dont sound like a drunk frog o grin grin
If you do not have a good enough voice, you get voice coaching or better still stay away from singing? Just a thought.  Autotune is done to death with most song and it is more or less a substitute to those who cannot sing lately. Auto tune was originally designed so that if a singer goes out of range, a slight correction is made so that it is not noticed. It is not a substitution for singing a whole track like most singers are doing now.

How is stating I dislike Autotune is playahating? I prefer proper singing than listening to artificial and manipulated auto tune non-sense, that no be playahating grin

No, auto tune is not an advancement. That is like saying the use of steroids in Olympics is an advancement. It is nothing but cheating.  grin grin

My focus is more on making back tracks not rapping. Wait, did you just suggest you will recommend autotue for a rap vocal? Lmao. You have just shown why I dislike autotune. lol.

Oh another problem with autotune, you cannot play live on stage with the same autotune crap, it is hard to pull of when singing live. grin

are u hating on fruity loops cuzzz u aint got fruity skillzhuh shocked shocked now i understand why u hate on fruity,.hmm interesting.
I have nothing but respect for fruityloops and those who use them. However, given the fact that it is easily hacked and readily available. Given the fact that Nigeria is well known for piracy, it is not too much to suggest that FL is common in naija. Again how that translate as hating I dont even know. Can a brother not say a sentence without people thinking he is "hating"? grin Kai looooorddddamerceee. shocked

NOT that we dont like criticism, u just need to understand where naija music is evolving from to understand why we dont allow any foul mouth to critic our kinda style. we cant be like the americans they are white we are black ! we are completely different , simple.!

Yeah true. Even the in-built ones, you have to turn down the tv or any other thing as it'll interfere. But once you get the tuning thing down, it becomes second nature and in good time you won't even need the tuner, your ears will be the judge! I'm trying to slowly get to that point myself.
Yeah you are right, with time it should become second nature.

Here's a pic of my fender, the one with the built-in tuner. I'll take some pics when I get home up close and personal so you can get an idea.
If you're truly down at some point, I'll show you the best, dopest, flyest guitar teacher on the face of the planet lol. And its all FREE! imagine that lol.

This is london, who no like free thing? This na london and recession bite hard for here, I no go mind at all. wink

Lol, I have finally found my twin cheesy. I cannot say enough bad things about autotune. Did you see the new "We Are the World" video? even rappers like lil wayne with toad voices were singing there too, I don't know what this world has come to.
I remember staying awake back then to watch the original "We are the world" and it was and still very good memory. I have avoided watching the remake as I do cannot stand and watch as a classic is destroyed. Lil wayne in an "we are the world" remake? No thanks. Some classics shouldn't be touched - EVER. "We are the world" is one of them.

Then I will come armed with the music from the likes of Sade, Lauryn Hill, Bob Marley, Mos Def, IndiaArie etc. When I have children, they will be banned from listening to most of today's music. Na "oldies" I go dey play for them straight from the crib.
It pains me to say this, but I feel we are a dying breed. Music these days is for the moment. Do you think "Yahoozee" will have an appeal 3years from now on? I think it is higly unlikely, but then most [autotune generation] will disagree lol.
Lol, that's cool. Yeah yeah, I love finding and working with gems in the ruff. Def. We go dey talk. I swing by this section from time to time but usually met with modenine this, and tuface that, beyonce this, jayz that. I just waka commot. lol. oh dear, that is so ol' skool lol. You poor thing, I sympathize with you jare. No wonder you're traumatised. Many newer guitars come with built-in tuners, its literally as easy a picking a string and seeing if the light is green or red and then slightly turning the peg on top to either tighten/losen the string.
Lmao. No wonder. I think I bought a digital turner, where one turns it on and then strike the string, then watch the display. But because it uses microphone, it can be tricky lol. Will upload photo at some point.

I never new guitar are made that way these days.

And yes oh youtube is an incredible resource - free resource. I can't begin to detail all the things I've learned from there. Everything from guitar to keyboard, to how to use pro-tools, to music theory, to music business, name it, its there.
I use if a lot - even did extensive "research" on it before I bought my Juno G. It just never crossed my mind to use it for guitar lesson. I will give it a try.

Leave them. There's not much you can persuade this autotune generation. The rubbish that passes for music these days is disturbing for real lol. Well, we have young upper comers like yourself to change the game abi?  cheesy  don't let us down oh!
I swear you must be me in the body of a female! I have moaned about the auto tune here too. As expected, I was told off lol. From the school of thought that I come from, one must be able to sing to if one is going into such trade, but lately I think one don't have to know how to sing - there is autotune. What a load of non-sense. It makes me cringe that everyone sound alike! I blame Tpain lol. [Even though, auto tune don dey around way before him]

As for saying "The rubbish that passes for music these days is disturbing for real lol." Do you want to start world war III on this section of the forum? lol.  Folks around here do not like any criticism of any kind when it comes to naija music.

I wish I can make changes, I won't mind working with a few artist to show case what I can do as I love dabbling with sounds and unusual style of music.

ElRazur,
you try oh. Few comments. Krayola talked about moving the sounds around, I agree. You said you didn't really mix it yet so that's understandable. If you can work on your FX settings and make the instruments blend more together and sound like "they're being played together on the same stage, at the same time" it'll add an extra umph to it. Also try to make the transitions flow/blend a little smoother for when you switch between the horns and the keyboard. Not just the levels but the overall feel and notes that are being played. Overall good job and keep it up! and more! smiley
Thanks. I have that pinned on one side of my head for the next track lol.

I uploaded three tracks already. They are all on this section - should still be on the front page of this section. All have similar heading.

Na lie jare lol. This is what potentials tell themselves when they think the instrument is too hard for them to learn. I honestly think the only requirement is passion. I was spending 3-4 hours a day when I was learning. Rubbishing and challenging myself with incredible players I'd see on youtube videos in between. All you need is passion brotha, passion.
Omo I swear, my acoustic guitar cost me £150.00 when I bought it, it was some hand signed brand with carrier bag, dvd and tuner. My point? When I spend that kind of money, I am forced to give it all the passion in me, but it defeated me. Even the guitar tuner was a pain. Blowing air and trying to weak the neck of the guitar to match the tune. What a pain in the backside lol.

Now that you mentioned, youtube I may give it another go, but it appears I already developed a mental block that I can't do it. A very bad state of mind. angry

Gbam left, right and center. This is the problem I have with a lot of mostly hiphop instrumentals these days. Very generic, and even when its a hot beat, its flatline all through the song. Nothing to continously tickle and surprise the ear. And then there's the opposite - too much going on in the song its hard to appreciate the complexities. Balance is everything - including vocals as well.
Exactly. I once had a heated debate where I mentioned that Nigeria's hiphop producer do not have a defined sound, it is good to see someone one sharing my views lol. That is the things with Timbaland beat, there is always something that the ear is yearning to hear more of. So is Dr Dre beat. I guess because the scene in naija is too young and the use of Fruity loops by most studio may have a hand to play in that.

Lol. You right small sha, small. I love the talking drum much much, such a unique sound and feel, can "africanize" instantly any track lol. Harmonica can also be very dope in some songs too. Very nice. I just saw your thread with your sample, lemme go and listen . . .
I have always thought talking drum and Guitar are some how similar - I.e drawing the "strings" [the leather ropes] on the side and applying under arm pressure [in guitar's case the finger tip to change keys] makes them playable in a similar way - well in my head any way lol.

I appreciate feed backs from heavy weights to be honest. Just noticed you are a female. Awesome. lol. grin

wengewenge:
hey men i didnt say having hardware aint good, i just say u can make a beat as good as dr dre timbo without hardware , i started then wit fl and i am  extremely comfortable wit it.   on the programmed drums , there are drums called programmed loops that almost any kinda pattern , i have links that would lead u to over 500gig of programmed loops used by renowned producers all over . i collect sounds all over , i have over 1 terrabyes of sound samples , i guess i need to take a screenshot of my sound bank /vsts at this point .
I am not sure you can make a good as Dr Dre or timbo just using stock sound from fruity loops. You will need additional samples or plugins at least.

oh I wish! lol. Honestly, it really take decades to get anywhere close to Carlos Santana level.

You should learn brotha smiley  I won't lie, it takes a lotta time and passion, but its really worth it esp if you're an artist/performer. And when I get instrumentals to work with, I really enjoy sprucing it up with some guitar here and there as a lotta tracks when generated from computer programs tend to be kinda robotic. And you're left-handed? lol, left-handed guitars confuse me just by looking at it lol.

But anyways, do you play any instruments? though I know messing around with mixers and boards is an art all by itself.
Carlos is a God. He makes it sound so simple, but I get frustrated when I try to emulate his stlye lol.

I think Guitar is one of those things where one either have it or don't have it. I have a feeling, I probably don't have it lol.

Tell me about all those drum machine programmed beat! It is common alot in naija song. It just do not have the feel and swing of human touch man. One of the reason a lot of people swear by the Akai mpc, the quantize is so good, it sometimes feels like it is played by human. Also I believe there is a legendary "swing action" that is seen on roland drum machines I think.

Man, I respect anyone who can play the guitar, it is one of the most b*stard of instrument to learn lol. But it can be rewarding once one know the way around it.

If Harmonica count as an instrument, then yeah. grin I can play [via improvisation] on most instrument lol. I can do Sakara [popular in fuji], Konga, talking drum etc. I guess my most recent instrument I can play via improvisation is the keyboard. It is easy to learn unlike the guitar lol.

@Krayola

Omo some good stuff right there jare. I actually looked at the Triton LE, but the lack of Sampler and Audio recording made me went the Roland way. wink I have seen what can be done with the M3 and I swear, If I have money, I go buy am o.

Music/RadioRe: Post Your Studio Or Tell Us About It! by ElRazur(op): 4:01pm On Mar 01, 2010
I am not home.

You have already shown why a MIDI keyboard is needed. A paying artist will not wait 5days for you to come close or reproduce a result.

Sometimes, when you have a keyboard you can be messing around with a particular sound and bingo you make a nice riff, melody that can give you your first hit record. Using a mouse and keyboard will most likely not get you that.

The way I am (by eminem) was made that way. He was about to leave the studio when the keyboard player made that riff that was popular in that song. Eminem asked him to play that riff again, and from there it was laid down, went back to the boot and recorded the hit. If a mouse and keyboard is been used, that may not have happened.

Even flstudio makers kinda acknowledged by adding pre-set key riffs and music score in fl as it is harder to pull off without MIDI keyboard.
Music/RadioRe: Post Your Studio Or Tell Us About It! by ElRazur(op): 3:32pm On Mar 01, 2010
You need a MIDI keyboard to pull off some keyplay. Trust me on this one. I can play you a riff and ask you to replicate it without keyboard, I have a feeling you may have problem and highly unlikely to pull it off.

Fruityloops have its strong side, but it is not the end of all. Professionals use pro tools mainly plus expensive hardware. There are other DAWs that are in my opinion better than flstudio, but that is another story.

Software is not everything and hardware is needed if you are getting serious. Watch videos of top producers on YouTube and you can help but notice the amount of hardware present.

Next generation won't be using iPhone and BB to. make beats, those machine are not powerful enough to run a decent sequencer or handle some of the power-hungry applications of today. However, low quality cheapo coded ware may be written for these phones. (there are a few already)

At most times of the day, the toilet and bathroom are one of the noise-free places in the house. My toilet is probably cleaner than some people's room. Lol.

Speaking of mixing, I know a thing or two, I just don't bother as I get too lazy lol.
Music/RadioRe: Post Your Studio Or Tell Us About It! by ElRazur(op): 2:44pm On Mar 01, 2010
@hustler. The keyboard in that photo is not a proper studio keyboard. It looks like a yamaha or Casio of some kind. Most studio oriented keyboard do not have inbuilt speakers. Perhaps it is used as a midi controller instead?
Music/RadioRe: Post Your Studio Or Tell Us About It! by ElRazur(op): 2:41pm On Mar 01, 2010
@hustler
I made a post in the music production center. You may want to have a read. Alternatively, you may want to let us know if you want hardware or pc based recording. As you can see, I am using both. If you want a dual monitor you need a graphics card that supports that. I am on my phone so will give you more info when am home.

@obinna.
I tend to record vocals in the bathroom/toilet as the mic can pick up the most silent of all noises. However, with the Juno g (as it is what am using solely lately) I just plug in a phono-jack condenser Mic. Seem to work.
