Politics / NEW OPEN LETTER! Now To Vice President Sambo by emmaliveth10(m): 4:52pm On Dec 31, 2013
The letter writing politics has reached Northern Nigeria as a strong member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the region Engr. Umar Gana wrote Vice President Namadi Sambo an open letter.
In this document the official cautions Mr. Sambo to wake up from slumber and save crumbling PDP in the North. Additionally, he urges Vice President to tackle serious issues as the region slips away to rival All Progressive Congress (APC).

Sahara Reporters claim to have obtained a copy of the letter dated 9th December, 2013, from a prominent member who chairs a leading Federal Government agency in Abuja.

According to the information provided, the letter was addressed to Sambo was copied to National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, Chief Tony Anenih chair PDP Board of Trustees and President Goodluck Jonathan through his Chief of Staff.

Gana openly accuses Sambo of his inability of addressing the creeping collapse of the PDP in the North West Zone and Kaduna State, which he draws immediate attention of Jonathan in view of its being the largest and most populated zone in the country with 28% to 30% of entire voters in the country going by 2011 figures.

The official was also quoted in the open letter as mentioning that, Governor Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna state has skewed misunderstanding of the dangers ahead in their home state of Kaduna, saying,

“To me, there is a crucial need for collective concerted efforts to salvage the situation. Otherwise, giving our past ugly experience, we have no alternative than either to join the APC or flee for our dear lives, including the lives of the members of our immediate and extended families.”

Politics / No More Food In Aso Rock: Jonathan by emmaliveth10(m): 12:47pm On Dec 31, 2013
With the economy in a bind and a growing public anger over his administration’s management of the economy, President Goodluck Jonathan has taken a rare decision to spend less on food and consumables at the presidential villa in 2014.
As the budget comes under an increasingly  intense media scrutiny, President Jonathan has given up nearly half of the presidency’s giant feeding bill of N1 billion, a proposal, two years ago, that shocked Nigerians and stirred public anger.

The feeding cost has been lowered by N494 million or 45.5 percent in the 2014 budget proposal sent to the National Assembly by the president.

The 2014 request, if approved by lawmakers, will be the lowest amount of naira spent by the State House on feeding and allied costs in two years.

In the 2012 budget presented in late 2011 by the president, his office and residence as well as those of Vice President Namadi Sambo were allocated an obscene N993 million for refreshments, catering services and purchase of kitchen equipment.

That year, approximately N477million was assigned for foodstuffs and “catering materials supplies” for the president’s office, while an additional N293 million was to provide “refreshment and meals” for the president’s comfort at his home and office.

An extra N45.4 million was earmarked to buy canteen and kitchen equipment for the president’s household, although similar purchases were made the previous year.

For the vice president’s office in 2012, foodstuff, catering and materials supplies were scheduled to cost N104 million, while cooking gas and cooking fuel was to consume N6.2 million.

Refreshments and meals at Mr. Sambo’s office and home were estimated at N20.8million, and another N45.4 million was allocated for purchase of kitchen and household equipment at the state house headquarters.

The funds allocated to feed Aso Rock in 2012 were sufficient to pay about 1,200 of the nation’s growing unemployed graduates a monthly salary of N70, 000 for a year.

That revelation at the time, published by PREMIUM TIMES, aggravated public anger and revved up resistance to government’s plan, within the same period, to remove petrol subsidy, and jack up the pump price of petrol.

A terribly embarrassed presidency quickly scrambled a review of the budget, cutting down the proposed feeding bill by N147 million.

But in the two years that have followed, the government has significantly lowered the feeding bill for the first and second families and their offices, raising the question how the huge 2012 bill may have been utilized, since the same purpose is now being served at a cheaper rate.

In 2013, the presidency’s feeding was put at N717.3 million. For 2014, the figure has been scaled downward to N542.8 million, the new budget shows.

In 2014, for the president’s office and residence, food stuff and catering materials supplies will cost N200.8 million, while refreshment and meals will gulp N162.6 million.

Cooking gas and fuel will be purchased at N 9.4 million while a new set of canteen and kitchen equipment-the same purchase that has consistently occurred for years-will cost the nation N131.8 million.

For the Vice president’s office, food stuff and catering materials supplies will cost N23.9 million, refreshment and meals N10.8 million, while cooking gas and fuel cost would be N3.6 million.

The figures are subject to National Assembly’s approval.

Federal revenues have dwindled during the past year with the government so terribly cash-strapped that it is unable to pay university teachers and execute key developmental projects.

Politics / Boko Haram Says Attacks On Barracks Is Victory From Allah by emmaliveth10(m): 8:03pm On Dec 27, 2013
KANO (AFP) – The leader of Nigeria’s Boko Haram Islamists, Abubakar Shekau, has claimed a daring December 20 raid on a military barracks in the restive northeast, in a video obtained by AFP Friday.
The insurgents stormed the barracks in the town of Bama in a convoy of trucks before sunrise, opened fired on the soldiers inside then torched the compound. Several witnesses said the gunmen kidnapped soldiers as well as women and children.
“Our fighters stormed the Bama barracks,” Shekau said, while seated on a mat and flanked by a group of armed men.
Shekau has released a series of videos since taking control of the rebel group more than three years ago. The latest recorded statement was delivered to AFP through the same channel as previous messages.
“This is a victory from Allah,” said the wanted insurgent leader after claiming to have destroyed “21 armoured tanks” and killed “multitudes” in the raid.
The military has not released a death toll from the barracks attack and rescue agencies have largely been barred from working in the northeast since at a state of emergency was declared in the area in May.
According to the defence ministry, more than 50 “terrorists” were killed when ground forces backed by fighter jets pursued the fleeing Islamists after the raid.
Residents told AFP that an unknown number of civilians were killed and four villages destroyed during the military response.
Shekau has been declared a global terrorist by the United States, which put a $7 million (5.1 million euros) bounty on his head. Nigeria has separately offered 50 million naira ($300,000) for information leading to his capture or death.
In the video, Shekau appeared to mock the notion that one of his loyalists would betray him in exchange for a reward.
“What is 50 million naira? We do not worship money. As for those who are in our midst, Allah has taken care of them,” he said.
The Bama attack was the second major strike on the military in the northeast this month and was seen as a reminder that more than seven months into a military offensive aimed at crushing the insurgency, Boko Haram remains capable of striking high profile targets.
The group’s four-year insurgency, which seeks to create an Islamic state in Nigeria’s mainly Muslim north, has killed thousands.

Nairaland / General / Yuletide: Army, Police, Navy Team Up To Fight Criminals In Onitsha by emmaliveth10(m): 11:38pm On Dec 20, 2013
In what looked like a pro-active measure, ahead of the
fast approaching Christmas and New year season,
officers and men of the Nigerian Army, the Police and
Navy may have teamed up to fight crime to a standstill
and ensure crime-free yuletide.
Already, authorities of the military cantonment in
Onitsha and their Naval Base counterpart have
assigned a patrol team each to assist the police in
patrolling all nooks and crannies of the commercial
city to foil criminal activities.
Sources from Onitsha Police Area Command confirmed
that based on the existing synergy among the security
agencies, and based on the increasing rate of crime,
the three organizations decided to team up and tackle
the trend headlong.
The source further hinted that the last-minute struggle
by some hoodlums to terrorize the inhabitants of
Onitsha in particular and Anambra state in general in
a bid to rake in some money for the celebration of the
Xmas may have drawn the attention of the security
personnel.
It was gathered that hoodlums are now operating
indiscriminately in various parts of Onitsha with arms,
particularly at nights, dispossessing their would-be
victims of all their cash and valuables under gun point,
a situation which the security agencies are not
comfortable with.
Sources confirmed that the uniformed men usually
assemble at the Police Area Command Headquarters,
Onitsha during evening hours as a take-off point,
adding that the commencement of the team-up
exercise, about a forth night ago has yielded a lot of
positive results as some of the hoodlums were either
apprehended in the act or they escape with bullet
wounds each time the military personnel storm the
robbery scene.
The Police Area Commander for Onitsha, Mr. Benjamin
Wordu, An Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP who
simply confirmed the new development to newsmen in
his office at the weekend, vowed there would be no
safe haven for such criminals in Onitsha before, during
and after the yuletide season, adding that more
strategies are being mapped out to flush out the
criminals.
The Commander of 302 Artillery Regiment, Onitsha,
Col. T. A. Gagariga who had just been newly promoted
to the rank of Brigadier-General, decried the menace of
some hoodlums who he said usually operate under the
name of the Movement for the Actualization of
sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB and warned such
persons to desist from their criminal acts or face the
dire consequencies.
DSP Anthony Ogar, the Commander of the Special Anti-
Robbery Squad, SARS, Okpoko Unit, near Onitsha, said
they have mapped out strategies to apprehend such
hoodlums operating in the area.

Politics / Obasanjo’s letter raised things that are germane – Bimbo Daramola by emmaliveth10(m): 8:26pm On Dec 20, 2013
Bimbo Daramola is a vocal member of the House of
Representatives on the platform of All Progressive
Congress (APC). He represents Ekiti North Federal
Constituency 1 in Ekiti State. In this interview with
Vanguard, says that former President Olusegun
Obasanjo in his letter raised salient issues that
shouldn’t be ignored. Excerpts:
Nigerians appear divided over Obasanjo’s letter to
President Jonathan. Some prefer the message to the
messenger while some talk down on both. How may
you react to this?
Well, a lot of things are happening. I think Nigerians
shouldn’t also perpetually be a bunch of people who
do not live by history. Before you can ascribe value
and integrity to whatever anybody says and you go the
town with it, you should also check the character of
the man who is saying it.
I say
this
thing in a jocular manner. If a mad man tells you that
your house is burning, would you say, O! He is a mad
man and just go? Will you not double check to know
whether your house is actually burning? So, whatever
former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said may not
be talking about the messenger. As a person, he is
tainted. He has an albatross on his neck that is
sufficient enough for Nigerians to say, hey, no more.
Will you just leave us in peace? Or it’s about time that
you shut your trap and let us just be having our own
time. After all, Yar’Adua was you protege and then
President Jonathan? But you see, in trying to say that
we should also be mindful of the fact that the kind of
things that Obasanjo raised in his letter also are very
germane. I don’t want to bother myself with the aspect
that deals with the PDP.
The earlier the PDP’s self destruct, the better. I have
also reminded people that the size of Dinosaurs did not
prevent them from facing extinction. And if you want to
remind yourself of Dinosaurs today, you can go and
look at fossils. So, I believe that there are some
germane things: 1000 people are being penciled down
for elimination, the economy is grinding to a halt, you
can’t deny that.
You can’t fault those things. So, what we need to do is
to look at that, identify those that are very germane,
those things that the man said and then we can deal
with those issues. We can discountenance the integrity
of the man who has said that. Don’t forget that if a
mad man tells you that your house is burning, you will
not say he is a mad man. You will turn around and
say, just in case, let me check if my house is really on
fire.
APC called for the impeachment of Mr. President and
incidentally, you are member of the party. Are you in
support of that?
Well, that coming from a respected personality like the
interim national publicity secretary of the party who is
also an avowed democrat, I am not too sure if that is
the position of the party.
I want to be guided about it. The best of power is
appreciated when you are guided and the deployment
of same. But what I think we should do at this time;
there is no doubt that this President has so many
constitutional infractions against him enough to get
him out of his feet like yesterday.
They are there. But are we going to actually say that
because a woman has fibroid, and after the first to
prognosis, the next thing we can do is to take away
her womb out? But I am going say; but one thing I am
clear about is that there are plethora of constitutional
infractions against this President but we must also be
very, very courteous about how we deployed it.
Are you perchance divorcing yourself from the position
of the party?
No, no, no, I cannot dissociate myself from what the
party has said. I am not sure that was the position of
the party but that coming from a respected personality
like Uncle Lai Mohammed, I know too well and expect
that he would have actually done some consultations,
but for me, speaking for myself as Bimbo Daramola, I
have been one of the advocates of trying to let the
President know that there is a constitutional provision
to put him in check. He did not become the President
of Nigeria because he woke up one morning or he has
a Ph.D.
He became President of Nigeria as a result of the
mandate of the people, expectedly so. But I think we
should do is to now push it and OK, against the
backdrop of the constitutional provisions. But the
truth of the matter is that we need to also be very, very
careful. These are interesting times.
We are trying to get two strong parties to see how we
can take power democratically from government that
has failed us for 14 years. And I am not saying this
guidedly.
This government has failed us. The government of PDP
has failed. We only got the kids back to school from a
6 month forced holiday. Where is that done? And
somebody cites example of schools in Ghana being
closed for one year.
Is Nigeria Ghana? And on the heels of that, medical
doctors are threatening. On the heels of that
PENGASSAN has also given ultimatum. There is a
systemic challenge.
We need to go right now. We have scratched the space
for too long. Now, the thing is that if you impeach a
President Jonathan, who becomes the next President?
The beneficiary of that same process is still going to
emerge from this same party that has held Nigeria
down after 14 years of being in the saddle. So, it takes
a little bit of strategy to know which of the options is
best.
Even on the floor, the remnant of the PDP members, in
their single digit are already convinced that the game
is up. And I hope that this President will see the
signals on the wall and do the wish of Nigerians. Let
no body push Nigerians to the woods anymore.
We went to South Africa to celebrate Mandela. Mandela
got celebrated not on the basis of the fact that he left
government after 4 years, no, but necessarily because
that was the mood of time. And people feel that it’s
about time that we take this country to the next level.
These guys have held us down for too long. It’s about
time to leave the PDP that has failed this country.
Well, the Presidency said you are toying with treason
on the issue?
What’s treasonable about something that is
constitutionally provided for? It’s in the constitution.
No body is taking a hard one against government.
Listen, treason is not removing Jonathan. Anything
that is treasonable is about forcibly taking over the
government of the federation. It’s not removing
Jonathan.
There is a difference between the seat of power of the
Presidency and Jonathan. President Jonathan is an
individual and the presidency is an institution. That
should be clear to them and I know too well that if that
constitutional provision is not relevant, the drafters of
that constitution wouldn’t put it there.
It’s just in order to ensure checks and balances; to
ensure that government is run and run properly so that
the interest and welfare of Nigerians is secure. That’s
why they put it there. You can’t have a president
running riot and somebody says you cannot put him
in check.
Most people say it’s all a gang up against the
President’s second term ambition in 2015…
I don’t think so. Look at Amaechi. Rivers state is not
the same now. Even in Bayelsa, did you see the guys
who decamped in Bayelsa? So, don’t ethnicise it.
What I know is that we have asked and demanded that
this party, having been in government for 14 years, if
you had a child 14 years ago, it would be getting
ready for College now. It’s about time for us to know
where we are headed. And it’s not about me. I can get
sorted anyway.
It’s about the corperate texture. If this country goes
down, President Jonathan is not gonna be immune.
Go and ask Morsi in Egypt.

Sports / Copa Dedicated To Goodluck Jonathan by emmaliveth10(m): 4:19pm On Dec 19, 2013
Head coach of the Nigeria's Supersand Eagles, Audu Adamu has dedicated the success of his wards in this year's Copa Lagos Beach soccer tournament to president Goodluck Jonathan.
Nigeria won the trophy for the third consecutive time on Sunday after beating fellow African foes, Senegal 4-2 in their last game.
The Supersand Eagles began the defense of their title with a 7-1 decimation of Germany last Friday, but they were made to sweat as they managed to beat Lebanon 10-9 in their second duel at the Eko Atlantic city in Lagos.
The Nigerians however scored a total of 21 goals and conceded 12 to emerged champions of the Copa Lagos.
Adamu told supersport.com on Monday that the inspiration him and his boys got from president Goodluck Jonathan masterminded their triumph at the 2013 Copa Lagos.
“I am the happiest man on earth because I have fulfilled the pledge I made to Nigerians and president Goodluck Jonathan that we would give them christmas gift and I thank God that we won the competition again.
“The president told us in Abuja that we should try and win the title so that the 2013 would be so colourful for Nigeria going by the success of the Super Eagles and the Golden Eaglets.
“We are the last this year and I want to dedicate the trophy to the first citizen in Nigeria (Goodluck Jonathan) whose words inspired us to success,”. Adamu exclusively said to supersport.com

Politics / Jonathan Presents N4.6trn Budget Estimate For 2014 by emmaliveth10(m): 4:11pm On Dec 19, 2013
ABUJA -PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday presented the budget estimate of N4.6 trillion for the 2014 fiscal year to the National Assembly against the N4.7 trillion that was budgeted last year.
According to the budget estimate, the Federal Government is to spend N1.1 trillion for capital expenditure, while N3.7 trillion is expected to come from the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.
President Jonathan who was represented by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala did not give details of the budget and the amount for the recurrent expenditure as he only laid the well packed budget proposal on the floor of the Senate.
Speaking to Journalists after laying the budget estimate, the Coordinating Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala said the aggregate expenditure of N4.6 trillion excluded the Subsidy Reinvestment Expenditure Programme- SURE-P.

Sports / Ronaldinho Gets His Boots Taken Away From Him From Raja Casablanca Players. by emmaliveth10(m): 3:55pm On Dec 19, 2013
Ronaldinho may have ended up on the wrong end of the 3-1 scoreline in the Club World Cup semi-final, but the Raja Casablanca players were so taken by the Brazilian that they were seen practically taking the boots off of his feet at the end of the game.
Casablanca had the advantage of playing at home in Morocco, but their victory against the South Americans still came as something of a surprise.
They'll now play European championsBayernMunich in the final.
Ronaldinho, 33, may be in the twilight of his career, but the shoe-grab certainly proves he's still a huge draw for players and fans alike.
And given that he can do this with his feet, it's not such a shock.

Politics / Re: Iyabo Did The Right Thing – Fasoranti, Afenifere Leader by emmaliveth10(m): 12:45pm On Dec 19, 2013
It’s a fabrication — Fasehun
On his part, founder of Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, Dr. Fredrick Fasheun said the letter was fabricated.
Fasehun, who spoke with Vanguard on the telephone, said “I do not believe Iyabo would write that kind of letter to her father. I do not believe it, it is a fabrication.”
Iyabo’s letter, a vital document — Babatope
In his reaction, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, who was reluctant to comment on the Iyabo’s letter affirming that it was a family affair between a daughter and her father, however said: “What I am concerned with is the fact that he also wrote a letter to the President which was based on dissemination of falsehood and rumour mongering. So, I don’t want to comment about Iyabo Obasanjo’s letter being a family affair of the Obasanjos. But I can tell you that Iyabo’s letter is a vital document, which can be a reference source for anyone who is interested in the politics of Nigeria at the moment,” he said.
It’s food for thought — Kehinde
Hon. Femi Kehinde, a former member of the House of Representatives said:
“Iyabo’s letter is food for thought. It teaches fathers a lesson that they must take care of their children. The letter is a product of long, bottled-up anger, agony and anguish over a father that could have done much better. It is very sad that the first child of a president would be living in the boys quarters of the State House. That is an agony and it is nothing but a reflection of a family that is not united.”
It’s a plot to rubbish Obasanjo, says Tsav
In his reaction to Iyabo Obasanjo’s letter to her father, former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubabar Tsav dismissed it as the “handiwork of some faceless sycophants in the corridors of power.”
Tsav who spoke, yesterday, to Vanguard in a telephone interview in Makurdi, the Benue State capital said: “It’s all a desperate plot to rubbish Obasanjo. Nigerians can actually attest to the fact that the letter that was written by Obasanjo to the President was nothing but the truth of what we are witnessing in the country today.
The truth of the matter is that some persons who are desperate to protect their interests and stronghold on the presidency can also go to any length to protect their interest in the looting spree that has become the order of the day in the country, so I’m not surprised.
All I can tell you for now is that former president Obasanjo remains a statesman who spoke the minds of all Nigerians and any attempt to rubbish him by some chicken-hearted persons will certainly be discountenanced by all Nigerians.”
Iyabo’s letter a gimmick — CNPP
Similarly, the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, in Benue State described Iyabo’s letter as “another gimmick by the ruling People’s Democratic Party.”
Benue State Chairman of the CNPP, Mr. Baba Agan who spoke, yesterday, to Vanguard in Makurdi, said: “I see this unfolding drama as the biblical hand of Esau but voice of Jacob.”
According to Agan, “this is nothing but a clear indication that some persons at the corridors of power are getting desperate all in a bid to rubbish Chief Obasanjo.
“The purported letter is nothing but a gimmick that will serve no useful purpose because it was intended to distract Nigerians from the salient issues raised by the former president in the letter he wrote to President Goodluck Jonathan.”
While noting that former president Obasanjo may not be a saint, Agan observed that “this may not be far from being the product of a hatchet man and may not have originated from the daughter of the former president.”
The opposition leader urged Nigerians to discountenance the content of the purported letter, adding that, “we will also like to see a confirmation that the piece actually originated from the alleged writer.
“As you know, some desperate people can do some desperate things just to curry the attention and favour of the President for their personal gains; I believe strongly that Chief Obasanjo’s daughter will not write that type of piece to her father, considering the much he did for her as a daughter in recent past; Nigerians cannot be fooled,” Agan added

Aremo Olusegun Osoba, former governor of Ogun State, who was cited in the letter, confirmed the meeting between him and Iyabo in Massachusetts, United States but distanced himself from the plot allegedly cited by her father to empower her with the ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC for the next round of elections.
Besides, Aremo Osoba, several prominent Yoruba elders spoke on the development among whom were Afenifere leader, Chief Rueben Fasoranti, Afenifere bigwig, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Dr. Frederick Fasehun, Chief Ebenezer Babatope and Hon. Femi Kehinde, a former member of the House of Representatives.
Senator Iyabo Obasanjo had written an open letter to her father accusing him of being a liar, manipulator, wife-basher and hypocrite who was desperate for a third term despite his denials to the contrary.
Olusegun Obasanjo and Iyabo Obasanjo
Following the hoopla over her letter,Iyabo spoke severally to Vanguard, yesterday. Asked to respond to claims that she had denied the authorship of the letter written to her father, Iyabo, who holds a doctorate in epidemology and now resident in the United States, said:
“No, no, no, that is not true. How can you live by social media? That is part of the problem with Nigeria, people want to be flying rumours. I have not told anybody o! It is early morning here and I just woke up and if I were you I would just ignore them,” Senator Obasanjo said.
“People are calling me and telling me that they called Baba but if I say I am not talking to someone (her father), how can you say you called the person and the person will tell you what is on my mind?” she asked
Giving reasons on why she broke off, she said that after a break from relating with Obasanjo, she found out days ago that her father would not change from the manipulative person she had known all along.
“The whole of last year I didn’t speak to him and I just started speaking to him recently, and the last time he was trying to manipulate me to say, this, say that. I can’t be saying no when you say no.
“The last time I spoke to him was three days ago and I decided that I was not going to speak to him again after that. That was the communication through which I realized that this man would never change from manipulations for himself.”
Dismissing her unsolicited canvassers on social media, she said:
“I was surprised that they would say that they called Baba, and I said to myself, are these people mad? How can you call the person that I said I am not talking to, to ask him whether I wrote a letter or not and he is going to speak for me?
“Nobody can say that I told him that I didn’t write it. I am not a liar. I will not back away from what I wrote and there is nothing that is there that is a lie. In the last four years how many of them have spoken to me? They are all mad people,” she said.
At press time last night, close associates of the former president who spoke under conditions of strict anonymity told Vanguard that Iyabo had not called her father to deny that she wrote the letter.
Iyabo did the right thing — Fasoranti, Afenifere leader
Leader of Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti commended Iyabo, saying she has done the right thing.
In a telephone chat with Vanguard, Chief Fasoranti said: “I think she has spoken the truth, she is his daughter and I think what Obasanjo said in his letter about Jonathan is highly provocative. He is creating the impression that he is a holier-than-thou person.
He is not right. Other elder statesmen in other countries keep things like this to themselves, they do not make any comment. He should stop haunting those who are in office because he is creating the impression that he is the best person. It is wrong. What Iyabo has done is perfectly right.”
Iyabo spoke her mind — Adebanjo
Also, Afenifere bigwig, Chief Ayo Adebanjo said what Senator Iyabo Obasanjo did should not surprise anyone.
In a telephone chat, Chief Adebanjo said: “What people like us have been saying about the man (Obasanjo) is being confirmed by the daughter. There is nothing she has said in that letter that is not true or that will be a surprise. The daughter has also confirmed it that he (Obasanjo) likes hypocrites to surround him and he (Obasanjo) does not like to hear the truth. There is nothing strange in what she has said. She has only spoken her mind in a clear and logical manner. She has said that it was their mother that struggled for the education they got; that they have never benefited from his (Obasanjo’s) position.”

ABUJA- GOVERNORS elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will today meet in Abuja, the nation’s capital city, with the lingering political quagmire in the party as well as planned removal of its national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur topping the agenda.
Vanguard gathered that the PDP governors meeting which will be a follow up to the one held penultimat Sunday, will also discuss the defection of five of its governors who operated under the aegis of G-7 into the All Progressives Congress, APC as top on the agenda.
Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
The meeting which will take place at the Akwa Ibom State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, will be attended by the 18 governors of the PDP, just as it will be presided over by Akwa-Ibom state governor and Chairman, PDP Governors Forum, (PDPGF), Godswill Akpabio.
It will be recalled that the governors at the end of their meeting penultimate Sunday had resolved that Bamanga Tukur must go if there must be peace in the party, even as the Governors at the end of the meeting vowed that it will be the only solution to the political logjam in the PDP against the backdrop that since he became chairman of the party in 2012, the party has not seen peace because of what it termed, his Administrative style which does not go in tandem with members of PDP.
Meanwhile, as the governors meet today, the PDP national Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has pleaded with all the aggrieved governors , members of the National Assembly and other stakeholders and members to learn to forgive him and one another irrespective of the gravity of the offence or provocation.
Tukur who begged the PDP governors that he has extended the hand of fellowship to them said, ” To our Governors of PDP extraction, I extend my right hand of fellowship, cooperation, peace and love to you all in the interest of our great Party. I further entreat Nigerians to eschew bitterness, rancor and acrimony in their social, political and economic dealing with fellow Nigerians.
“As one of the living fathers of this great country, I believe as elders our duty to our children and younger generation is to use our wisdom to show them the right path to selfless service to the nation and commitment to the enthronement of peace, love and unity. For our nation and our leaders can only succeed and thrive in an atmosphere of peace and love.”
In a statement by his Special Assistant, Media, Prince Oliver Okpala, Tukur who urged party members to in the spirit of Christmas, embrace peace and love for one another said, “as the Christmas draw nearer signifying the birth of Christ according to the Catholic Calendar and doctrine, I wish to once more as a father and elder statesman of our dear country offer my good counsel, wisdom and advice for national unity, peace, love and coexistence.
“While wishing Nigerians mostly Christians the best of the Christmas festivities and prosperous new year may I, utilize this opportunity to stress the urgent need for Nigerians to use this period to seek the face and intervention of God in institutionalizing brotherly care and peace both in our polity and dear country Nigeria.
“I call on all Nigerians irrespective of tribe, religion or ethnic affiliation to henceforth see their fellow Nigerians as their brothers and sisters belonging to one corporate entity known as Nigeria.
“I further entreat Nigerians to eschew bitterness, rancor and acrimony in their social, political and economic dealing with fellow Nigerians.
“As one of the living fathers of this great country, I believe as elders our duty to our children and younger generation is to use our wisdom to show them the right path to selfless service to the nation and commitment to the enthronement of peace, love and unity. For our nation and our leaders can only succeed and thrive in an atmosphere of peace and love.
“I urge our leaders and Nigerians at large to emulate the shining leadership qualities of tolerance, forgiveness and accommodation of late South African President, Dr. Nelson Mandela who as President brought peace and harmony to South Africans irrespective of tribe, religion, colour or race.
“Let us place service to the nation first before personal or parochial interest. Let our desire be to make Nigeria greater than we met it and let our guiding principle and goal be for the unity of Nigeria as a peaceful corporate entity.
