Hello guys,

Is there any one coming to Regina, Saskatchewan in January that needs accomodation. I reside in a two bedroom apartment and my flatmate is relocating. The apartment is fully furnished with chairs, bed and tv. About 12 minutes walk to the University of Regina.

Rent is a little above 500 dollars per month.

Send me a message if interested.

Hello,

At the port of entry/border, which bank statement would I present ? The old one I used to apply for the visa application or a new one closer to my travel date .

Thanks . Replies would be appreciated

I think you should show them the old one but also have a recent one handy in case they ask.

Good morning everyone here. I want to apply for a degree in Business Management in a University in Canada. If you know any university that offers the course in Canada (preferably a cheap one), I'd really appreciate it if you can help me with how to go about applying for it.

Thanks in anticipation of your replies.

Hello,
Tuition costs in Canada is usually tied to the provinces. Generally Saskatchewan, Manitoba and New found Land have the lowest tuition rates. You might want to check universities in these provinces.

Hi everyone,

Please, I want some clarification on this: is it compulsory I include my personal statement of account when making my visa application even when the funds from my sponsor and the scholarship from the school adequately cover for all the financial need that may arise?

Kindly oblige with the necessary info.

Cheers.

Hello bro, your personal SOA serves as a form of "personal assets". You should include it especially if you have been working for a while and do not have any concrete ties to Nigeria.

Yup, North American universities (Canada & USA) are ALL wayyyyy better than ALL Nigerian universities, when it comes to facilities, resources & opportunities. We indeed have a very long way to go.

Both my siblings have made the same observations that you just made. Yes they are both doing well. Hope you are looking forward to warm weather in the upcoming summer season, you are about three months away from summer. Also, hope you have found something to like about the winter season. grin

There is nothing to like about the winter oh. When i just arrived, the average temperature used to be about -20, now it hovers between -2 and - 8. I am waiting patiently for summer.

Hey bro, yeah after both my siblings got their TRVs I haven't spent as much time on here but I still pop in once in a few days or whenever I am chanced. Hope your first semester is going well.

Yeah semester is going on well. I am currently swamped with series of assignments, lab reports, project, midterm. I am doing 3 courses but it seems like 8 courses in a naija uni.

Standard of education here is top-notch. U of R is supposedly not among the top 20 schools in Canada but its facilities is world class and standard really high. The best uni in Nigeria probably doesnt have up to one-tenth the facilities the uni has . Nigeria really has a long way to go. Can we ever get things right?

Hope ur siblings are doing well?

Cheers.

Sponsor and self sponsor which is better , when you are financially buoyant in both.

Hi you can use both.

Under finances, you have to proove:
1. Evidence of sufficient fund for tuition and living expenses
2. Personal assets. This can be in form of bank statements, landed properties etc (especially if you have been working for a number of years)

Personally I used my elder sister as a sponsor even though I had about 4 mill in my account. (Which is more than enough for 1 year of studies). That 4 mill. served as my personal assets.

Note that the relationship btw you and your sponsor has to be such that the VO will not doubt that he/she is sponsoring you.

My sister is paying my fees from her account on monday 11th January, can I use the duplicate copy of the FORM A as proof of payment at the POE? I am departing on tuesday 12th January, and the telex copy will not be ready by then.

NB: My school resumed on the 5th January and I have got a reply to a mail from my school to resume latest 15th January.

Yes you can. That was what I used. I showed the officer the duplicate copy and told her that the funds have not arrived yet hence no school fees receipt. I used Union bank and it takes 5 working days to get to destination.

I will also advice you to carry your bank statements and keep them handy in case you encounter an officer that is sceptical.

My School resumes May, I have already gotten my TRV but have no intention going to that school, I wanna switch, I wanna go to a different school. How do I tackle d immigration and customs at the POE, interms of school fees receipt, paying for this school will amount to paying double school fees. Or how do I show proof of financial strength Suggestions needed!!!

Hello It is not compulsory you show school fees receipt (a nairalander travelling with me didnt show it). I only showed the form A because she specifically asked me for it. What you need to show is "proof that you have enough money to support yourself during your stay in Canada"
For that I think bank statements will suffice. I had my bank statements with me. I would have shown that if she had asked.

Hello guys, happy new year.

Reporting live from Regina.
Journey was smooth but stressful. Flew Ethiopian airline from Abuja. Had four hrs layover in Addis ababa, 1hr in Dublin, about 8hrs in Toronto angry

Had no problems passing through customs and immigration in Abuja. They were very professional shocked. They were smiling and wished me a great trip.

No problems with immigration and customs in Toronto. Just declare the kind of food you are carrying in the customs card.
Immigration asked for school fees receipt but I didnt have. So i showed her the customer duplicate copy of the form A I used in making transfer. Told her the funds have not arrived the school yet.

Goodluck to everybody waiting for their visas and safe journey to those travelling.

Cheers

Hello,i still haven't received any update on biometrics.dont know what to do anymore and my representative keep saying it's normal that it happens sometimes. It was 4weeks on Friday. Don't knw what to do anymore

Bro/sis you better get your login details and check your portal yourself. It is possible a mistake was made on your application OR are you a citizen of a country where biometrics is not required or you are not within the age bracket? (Read this link http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/biometrics.asp)

Most people here get medicals after 5 weeks of submitting their application. That is what you should be expecting now and not a biometrics mail!

Deposit Money Banks have commenced a process to stop all customers from using their payment cards, popularly known as Automated Teller Machine cards, for dollar-denominated transactions when they travel abroad with effect from January 1, 2016.

SUNDAY PUNCH’s investigation also revealed the banks would not allow their customers to use naira-denominated ATM cards locally for transactions denominated in forex.

This means bank customers will not be able to use their cards to buy products from foreign e-commerce sites like e-bay and amazon.com in which payments are made in forex.

The development follows the lingering scarcity of foreign exchange, especially the dollar, to settle obligations arising from customers’ use of the ATM cards for forex-denominated transactions.

Already, Standard Chartered Bank has notified its customers that from January 1, 2016, they will not be able to use their naira-denominated ATM cards for transactions that are denominated in foreign currencies, either locally or when they travel abroad.

In a notice to its customers, Standard Chartered said, “This is to notify you that from January 1, 2016, your naira card will no longer be enabled for international use. This is as a result of the limited foreign exchange supply in the financial market.”

Asked how long the suspension of cards from international transactions would be, the spokesperson for Standard Chartered Nigeria, Mrs. Dayo Adurogbo, said, “We cannot give a definite date. It depends on how soon it is available. We will do everything to meet our customers’ demand once it is available.”

Further findings showed that a number of other banks had stopped customers from using their ATM cards abroad but had yet to officially communicate this to them.

Some customers told our correspondent that when they notified their banks of plans to travel and the need to enable their cards work overseas, they were simply informed that the cards could not be enabled for now due to issues relating to forex scarcity.

SUNDAY PUNCH findings showed others banks might issue notices similar to that of Standard Chartered Bank before the end of the year.

“We had some discussions recently and some top bank officials said they would stop customers from using their naira-denominated cards for international transactions due to the serious challenges in getting forex to settle their international partners,” a top bank official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, said on Friday.

The current situation means customers travelling abroad for Christmas and New Year may face severe payment challenges, a situation that may mar their shopping plans.

The fall in prices of crude oil, the main earner of foreign exchange for Nigeria, has made the nation’s forex income to reduce drastically, creating dollar scarcity crisis for the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The CBN has been rationing dollar to banks, importers and other forex users as the nation’s foreign exchange reserves continue to deplete, hitting $29.4bn on December 7, 2015.

The PUNCH had exclusively reported on Thursday that banks had cut the amount that their customers could spend using their debit and credit cards abroad by between 70 and 90 per cent. This took effect during the first week of December for the majority of the banks.

Specifically, banks cut customers’ card spending in foreign currencies from the annual $50,000 allowed by the CBN to between $5,000 and $15,000.

According to findings by our correspondent, Ecobank Nigeria Plc has reduced its limit from $50,000 to $5,000, with a maximum of $500 monthly and $100 daily expenditure.

Skye Bank Plc, in a notice to its customers via email, also slashed its international card spending limit from $50,000 to $12,000 annually, a maximum of $1,000 monthly and $100 daily.

Wema Bank Plc also slashed spending on its payment cards from $50,000 to $10,000 annually, $1,000 monthly and $100 daily.

Although other banks have yet to confirm their new international card spending limits, findings by our correspondent revealed that the new limits for most of them ranged from $5,000 to $15,000 annually, and $500 to $1,000 monthly.

Hmm, how do we pay for services now? angry
