I have not checked my Investment One VGIF account for a long time now.

So, this morning, I randomly checked, only to see that my interest is a whopping 127 million naira.

Hahaha. Wetin dey happen? My capital is not even up to 5% of that interest I am seeing there.

Can any of the agents tell me what's happening or I should start rejoicing that I have turned a multi-millionaire? grin grin grin

See screenshot below.
@Grupo and all Please note that your observation on your VGIF account as per accrued interest is a system glitch.
The team in charge are already working to rectify it.

Thank you for choosing Ione

Is Insurance Industry the next?

Tony Elumelu (Former MD of UBA) has acquired license to commence operation as Heirs Insurance LTD

Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede (Former Managing Director of Access Bank), now the Chairman of Coronation Insurance PLC, he has significant stake in the company. Coronation Insurance PLC has also signed BANCASSURANCE with Access Bank PLC

Stanbic IBTC Group is lunching into insurance space with Stanbic Insurance Ltd.

Why are banks/bankers now rushing to Insurance sectors?
In a more advanced economy insurance sector is juicy. It's a sign we are advancing though at a very slow pace.

Afternoon
What is the current rate for stanbic ibtc mutual funds
I just got access to my account and I am shocked at the slow and low interest accumulated?
This is the current situation for all MMFs irrespective of the fund manager. Currently the highest you can get in the industry should be about 2%. I wouldn't know what you saw in your account but it should not be strange it's the reality on ground.

Note: the reason is not far fetch it's because TBills the major underlying assets of all MMFs has crashed in rate. It's already less than 1%. So don't be surprise.
I have always said it on this thread that VGIF remains a good alternative for folks that want a guaranteed capital and income.

thanks for your opinion, I already have a basic knowledge about stocks and I have invested in some stocks before but j don't really know the best time to buy
Then by now you would have known the basic rule of - buy low and sell high. So you buy when prices are low and sell when it's high. That is the very basic.
All analysis you read or hear people talk about ends with just that simple basic understanding.
This is the period most investors position in dividend paying stocks like FUGAZ and others. Prices are higher though compare to what it was earlier in the year. You can watch and see if prices pull back or buy in trenches to average down.
However applying the basic rules is determined by your investment objective. A long term investor may not be too bothered about price like a trader. Some long term investors ie dividend seeker can make do with 8% dividend yield so to that investor he may not wait for a stock like zenith to be N20 or less before he buys but a trader will

I'm new here, please is it advisable I buy some stocks this December and if yes, can someone please recommend some stocks for me?
This is not the best approach to invest in stocks.

You have to do the following: Determine your investment objective - why do you want to invest in stocks, for what purpose and for how long.
Do you have some basic knowledge on how the stock market works? if answer is no then start by investing in yourself by reading some materials and previous pages on this thread.

However, you don't have to be an investment guru to start; most of the gurus started as a newbie as well, you get experience and learn more while at it.

Manwarrior55:
VGIF is no longer 7.5% guaranteed

Have you checked their last quarter report?
@Manwarrior and others.
Please note the following about VGIF

VGIF RATE IS STILL 7.5% AS AT THIS MOMENT

VGIF is a mutual fund but not MMF. That treasury bills rate is down does not affect it like it does to MMF.
75% of underlying assets is FGN Bonds as we speak most earlier issued long term bonds still do double digits; a very tiny portion less than 0.5% is in fundamentally sound stocks that dividend yields is up to 16%

As per the fund prospectus which is monitored by SEC, the capital and the interest are guaranteed and interest benchmarked with SDF,
Anytime there is change in sdf and a change in rate, it's always communicated officially to all clients

The Q3 report shows that the rate is prorated for July to December it's not saying that rate has dropped to 3.75%
If you check very well you can see there is extra income already as shown within the period under review.

Many folks are in VGIF here please check your daily accrued interest and confirm.

The fund is not doing anything out of economic reality of the country. It's well regulated and monitored.
Parties to the fund:
fund manager- Investment one
Trustees - FBNQuest
Nominee - IBTC
Custodian- Citibank
Regulator - almighty SEC.

If there is any clarifications needed about the fund always get in touch for the correct position of things so that we can be well guided. Let's not just assume things.

On a personally levels I have run VGIF for the past 6 years and still counting nothing has been done outside the prospects/facts of the fund.

VGIF still remains a good alternative to TBills for low risk tolerance investors who don't want to invest in riskier investment windows.

You can always reach me anytime with the details on my signature

Thank you.

Guru's in the house please it's safe to put my account details and bvn on this site https://www.investment-one.com
Yes it's safe! Reasons for bvn:

It's a requirement by SEC for any Investment account to be opened in Nigeria

It's a fight against money laundering

It's to protect your fund to make sure that during partial withdrawal, total liquidation or divided /interest payments funds are paid to the rightful owners and bvn is used for verification

The details you provided is tied with your funds so that any other account number can never be honored in any transaction involving money leaving your fund account except the one you provided during registration and it can only be changed by you incase there is need for that and that request is also verified using your bvn

Kindly note that though you supplied your details it doesn't give access to investment one to your bank account in anyway.

Please to help my ministry as sales Rep use the link on my signature to open the account of any product - VGIF, stockbroking etc with investment one.

Alternatively, if you are still not comfortable with the online registration, I have sent you a PM reply and I can send the offline form for you to complete offline and scan back to customer care or call 08181057319 if you still have any doubt to clear.

Thank you.

Please I am interested, how does this work? Thanks
Simple. VGIF is a mutual fund in the fixed income category. it's not tenor base like TBills. ie the investors decide how long you want your money to be invested in the fund.

After the first deposit, you can top up with any amount anytime at any interval- daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or it can even be a one off deposit and leave it for as long as you want. Interest which currently is 7.5% is prorated and earned daily but paid or reinvested depending on your option twice yearly - 1st July and 1st January.

To register, click the link on my signature at the bottom of this post and register online. You can also monitor your account online wherever you are in the world. You need the following to register as you click the link - ID card, passport photo, utility bill and your signature which you are required to upload at the last page of the online form.

N.B: Investment one will not ask you for cash to register. it's free.
You can also connect me with the phone number on my signature if you need further clarifications.

Thank you

What's the difference between it and the VBF. saw the current rate is over 14%
VBF - Vantage Balance fund is also a mutual fund. While VGIF is in the fixed income category with guaranteed capital and interest/income and major underlying asset on FGN Bonds, VBF on the other hand does not guaranteed capital and interest/income reason being that the major underlying asset is equity with some real estate and money market instrument. The reason for its doing well now is because of the current positive activities in the stock market.
VBF is more or less like investing in the stock market the difference is that you leave the picking of equities in the hands of the fund managers.
it's good but it's risky compare to VGIF. The 14% you see can become negative if the NSE goes south or can be higher if there is crazy bull at the floor of the NSE

Please House help a novice, i'm in Unilever bus, what would likely be the impact of border opening on Unilever stock?

I heard on air today FG is on the verge of reopening our land borders.
There will be little or no impact positive or negatively in fact Unilever has operated more in years of border been opened than when border was closed.
Unilever stock will be affected basically by the state of the economy generally not on just a single act of opening border. The purchasing power of consumers is what should be of concern.
If you enter the stock at bottom price and ready for the long term nothing to worry about whether border open or not.

Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by emmasoft(m):
RECESSION

Rebalance your portfolio. At this time, you are not to quit investing rather rebalance your portfolio- real estate, stocks, fixed income, mutual funds etc. Try and align with sectors that have businesses not affected seriously by the recession or have great prospects after the recession. At this time, you can take advantage of fall in fundamentally sound stocks prices and accumulate. There could be distress sales in some real estate, there are still some mutual funds that guaranteed capital and interest. Do a proper rebalancing

Economic sense needed to be gotten/acquired. Get economic sense. It’s time to get economic news, information that will enhance your investment decision, you can get a mentor at this time, instead of lamenting about recession and just talking about it get economic sense out of it.

Cast out non profitable investment quickly. Recession is is a ship in the sea that is trying to sink as a result of overload (remember the ship where Jonah was travelling in what the occupants did). To avoid the sinking of the ship the best thing to do is to throw away excess goods to save the most valuable ie life. If you have investment that gone sour instead of just looking at it to sink salvage the one you can and move on.

Endeavor to be realistic with your financial status, present and future. No need to live in denial or think you are insolated from the recession.

Select carefully what you commit your money into during recession. Don’t throw your money around be careful. It is good to take risk but during recession the risk should be seriously calculated before it’s taken i.e. if you must take the risk at all. Yes, rates are low in fixed income instruments but if you are risk averse there is not point to give yourself high BP just be realistic. What you cannot handle do not venture into it.

Stop and analyse to see what exactly how recession affects your business/work or income flow; do not be in the bandwagon; if you can get opportunity during recession grab it. Do not be carried away by hearsay or the news on social media. Analyse the situation and apply it to yourself personally to see exactly how the recession affects you. Yes, recession is seen to be generally a bad time but analyse carefully it may not all be bad going by our different dispositions and investment inclinations

Information must be well filtered before acting. In recession you hear of business or investment that looks too good to be true. Look critically. Do not be carried away by the promised returns. Always consider the safety of your funds/capital because if you lose your capital your own recession will get deeper than the general recession in the economy.

ONLY you have absolute power over your investment. Whatever happens to your investment only you can do the needful. Do not rely only on what you hear or read rather be yourself and do your due diligence. Analyst are good when it comes to analyzing but at the end you are the only one that is affected by your decision not the analyst

No excuses take responsibility of all your financial decisions it will help you so that you can easily retrace your steps if you have made wrong financial or investment decision or pursue your decision to the end without allowing distractions.

In conclusion, the news of recession should not make you lose sleep. It is not time to only talk about the government or shift blames rather take advantage of it and do something for yourself. it is not strange after all the experience of 2016 is still fresh.

Note also recession is just a state of the economy at a particular time it is not permanent. The best thing to do is make sure you learn one or two things as we move on. It is well with all of us.

There was no communication from one investment, even my aged old man that encouraged me to open the account in 2013 did not get the update message. I was the person that told him. I even went to your Maryland office almost a month ago to do the update and I was not allowed into the office cos of a standing order in the name of operating skeletal services as a result of the fallout of the End SARS prottest. I have done it for more than 3wks and I added in the email I need the statements but till now nothing as been done.
Ps, I don't have an account officer, I opened it myself when the office was still opposite TBS
Kindly get in touch or get to the office on Wednesday to sort it out. I can see your account was opened a long time ago perhaps under kakawa. As at 2013 the fund was still with kakawa and known as KGIF. It was 2014 Ione took over kakawa and since then there has been alot of changes. Ok. I think I get you now. The notice of change of custodian bank from Stanbic to Citibank was communicated to all VGIF customers. Some customers even called me then to be sure it was genuine which I confirmed some of them are on this forum. Well since you have been depositing in the old custodian bank, have all your evidence of deposit and send them to customer care copy your account officer your account will be updated, ordinarily deposit made for VGIF is posted/updated within 24hrs. When you login to the dashboard you see total investment ie your worth assuming you want to liquidate.
It does not mean your daily accrued interest is compounded yet till payment date. If you picked the option of reinvest the interest becomes part of your capital and you earn interest on it from that day ie it's compounded. If otherwise the accrued interest will be paid to your bank account.
