How is this fund able to guarantee 7.5% returns when the average returns on the underlying fixed income securities that it mainly invests in are tanking?
The facts are there Sir. VGIF is not mmf. The principal underlying assets are not tanking or yielding below the bench mark, moreover that is our core duty to mange investors funds as stipulated on the product prospectus hence I encourage you and others to allow us monitor and worry about your funds and make your wealth grow pandemic or no pandemic.

Already you can see that the fund is yielding above the 7.5% bench mark and this has always been the case over the years and as we speak the future is still bright.

The taste of the pudding is in the eating as they say, so come on board and see investment one putting smiles on your face.

Hello good evening everyone, I am a total newbie in stock,

Please I am looking for very cheap stock I can buy with kobo and sell in a year or 2 when the price increased, please I need guidance and suggestion, thanks in advance
Looking for stock is not the first step in stock investment. The first step is to look for knowledge about stocks before looking for it. Read and acquire some knowledge so that you can make informed decisions about stocks. Since you are already here it's a good step in the right direction. There are many teachers here so concentrate on what you need to know and avoid distractions in no time you will be fine. Don't rush! the market is always there it's the investors, sentiments, companies, economy etc that changes.

Lazyyouth4u:
Sir, is this 7.5% really guaranteed or just a target return? Guarantee funds typically guarantee capital and not returns so can you please let me know how this is different? If the returns are guaranteed, is this written in the fund document? Also, what are the fund’s expense ratio and management fees? Are the target/guaranteed returns net of the fees? Or will the fees be deducted from the returns?
VGIF though is in the fixed income category, it's structured uniquely.
The 7.5% returns is really guaranteed it's one of the unique features.

I can tell you categorically that in VGIF your capital and interest is guaranteed/secured it's the nature of the fund.
It's a unique form of mutual fund that guaranteed interest. it's not daily valued like others but bench marked with SDF (standard deposit facility) which is currently 7.5%.
Another unique feature is that any gain of the fund above the bench marked interest is shared among the investors.
The investors stand a chance of getting 35% of the extra gain of the fund.
Apart from being a sales rep I have run it for about six years and no regret.

VGIF Fund Fact
Minimum Subscription: N50,000 Additional investment can be made in multiples of N1.00
Fund Objective: To provide capital preservation and a stream of guaranteed income
Financial Year End: December
Fund Category: Fixed Income
Asset Classes: Money Market, Fixed Income and Equities
Fund Manager: Investment One Funds Management Limited
(A subsidiary of Investment One Financial Services Limited)
Fund Trustees: FBNQUEST Trustees
Fund Custodian: Citibank Nigeria Limited.
Fund Registrars: Investment One Funds Management Limited
Nominees: Stanbic IBTC Nominees Limited
Bank: Citi Bank Nigeria Ltd
Bank Account Name: FBNQUEST TRUSTEES/ VANTAGE GUARANTEED INCOME FUND
A/C NO: 0012706049
Features Benefits
VGIF offers a guaranteed return which is benchmarked against SDF (Standard Deposit Facility)
Returns are paid in January and July.
The return on investment is not subject to withholding tax.
Investors may also earn an additional yield equal to 35% of the net income of the Fund
The investment can be used as collateral for loan from banks.

From the fact of the fund,
The fund manager gets paid out of the excess gain of the fund and its shared as stated
35% for investors
15% reserved
50% for all the various fees (Trustees, custodian and others) that make up the expense ratio.
Over the years the excess above the SDF is in the range of 4% sometimes slightly less or more.
Whatever now accrued to the fund manager each year now depends on what that percentage translate to in terms of real figures.
This is a win win case because the fund manager have to work hard to make sure there is excess since that is where their fees comes from.
The investor on the other hand already has a Guaranteed rate which is not affected by the performance of the fund in anyway.

I have been seeing a lot of red flags on their site. Maybe I'm just being paranoid.
When it comes to fund management all concerns, due diligence and authenticity/genuineness of fund managers can be verified with the regulator ie SEC not by the color, or look of the website or the application use for the design. All capital market operators have standards put in place by the regulators that they must meet in all aspects of operation - applications, infrastructures, human resources particularly the management/board etc . The regulator does the regulation of everything about the fund managers or any capital market operator.

You have nothing to worry about on investment one website. It's secured and it meets the standard as set by the sector's regulator.

Out of curiosity I would like to ask because I am just noticing this.

why is Citibank the custodian for FBN asset management? why didn't they use FBN Bank instead?

have you got any clue why?
It's regulatory policy, it's for checks and balances- "you can't be a judge in your own case"

I agree.

I wonder which is more pain, shareholder or depositor. But for shareholders, don't they move them to the new investor?
That is one of the risks of the holders of ordinary shares of quoted companies you lose if the company goes under.

Lazyyouth4u:
Sir, on paper that is the case. In reality, no investment in any fund is guaranteed. Only the NDIC insured funds in Money deposit banks and micro finance banks are guaranteed. Investors have to understand that they can lose all their money in any investment fund if things go wrong and get zero from the fund manager and trustees.
That is not true Sir. It's what you are thinking not what is the reality. All funds have risk in relation to their underlying assets. If you say investors will lose their fund in mmf for instance you could have well say investors will lose their funds in TBills.

As pa Emma said outside equity funds or balance funds investors have their capital guaranteed by law. It's not on paper it's reality. Of recent we had the union trustees mixed fund which is now capital express balance fund. There was some issues with the fund managers or so. As we speak another fund managers has taken it up to manager after regulator's (SEC) approval. They even paid divided of recent which covers the period the fund managers had issues as the new fund managers came in; this is made possible because while there was problem with fund managers, if the fund was already invested in say FGN Bonds the investment is still going on and dividend is paid to the account that is oversees by the trustees.

Hence mutual funds especially the mmf and fixed income categories are always recommended for risk averse investors

VGIF is a SEC regulated investment that currently pays about 8% or thereabout so there is no cause for alarm.
SEC regulated funds have trustees which is different from the fund manager.
Thank you Sir for that contribution.

Yes currently the Trustees to VGIF is FBNQUEST TRUSTEES hence for those who have read the facts of the funds sheet or invested in the fund you will notice the citibank account number given is always fbnquest Trustees/VGIF as the account name. No money goes out of the account without the knowledge of the Trustees.

Apart from that there is the nominee and of course the custodian bank then the almighty SEC as already pointed out. So go ahead and invest.

It's being marketed because banks and fund managers interest towards customers are almost opposite. While bank wants deposit for investment just for themselves. Fund managers do same for themselves and for their clients.
In reality banks and fund managers have divergence interest when it comes to money with respect to customers/clients.

By the way don't forget to click the link on my signature to open VGIF account for free or contact me for more on VGIF. I will send you my voice notes on how the funds works.

I have traded NSE close to 20ys and traded NYSE for about 5yrs so I can categorically telling that comparing NYSE with NSE is like comparing LIFE with DEATH.

Even with the few days market correction we had in NYSE we are still on top of our GAME so stop looking for the living among the dead.

If you want to LIVE LONG in WEALTH and GOOD HEALTH ditch NSE for NYSE and thank me later.

A WORD is a enough for the WISE!
As you know @STNWAUME Markets all over the world have up and down, bear and bulls, stocks gain or lose, there are traders /investors that make profit or make lose NSE is not an exception. Bros don't paint NSE black. If NYSE is doing better than NSE right now does not warrant that comparison of death to life. NSE is our brand.

I need help with this e-dividend mandate form thing.

I have a share with UBA plc, and intend to accumulate from time to time.. will I need to fill and submit e-dividend mandate form for every extra units of UBA shares I buy?
If you already have a mandate with them and you buy more units with the same CHN you don't need to do anything the mandate covers everything automatically. If it's different CHN, you can send a mail to Africa Prudential registrar informing them of the new purchase and authorizating them to apply the existing mandate.

OK I get. Actually you don't really need to be computer literate to invest. The fact that you are in this forum and you can use a phone you have what it takes. The only thing about investment is to know where you are putting your money whether computer literate or not. Being computer literate is not the same as financial literacy. There are many tech savvy that are not financially literate.

Are you really sure the capital is safe? Why do they ask for ones "risk tolerance" level while filling the form?
Capital is Safe. Like I said in my earlier post I have first hand experience in the past almost six years.
They ask such question because it's the usual assessment when starting any investment product. They need to ask so that you can be guided properly. If your risk level is low it means product like VGIF is very adequate for you. If otherwise you can be asked to add riskier investment products like stocks. For instance your risk tolerance is low and you are going for an equity fund or stocks you will definitely be adviced to go for VGIF or Abacus money market fund. Now Ema, I think I started around June or July not sure of the exact time, I do not think I got any interest on the 31st of July, how do I confirm that? never really bothered about that before now.
Oh ok. I guess it will be July you started otherwise if it was June the interest for the number of days to June 30th will be paid on July 1st. But since you started after July 1st you will be paid on January first. The way it works is that anytime an investor starts, the interest is prorated for the number of days the fund remains in the VGIF account. For example if an investor starts today the interest prorated for Sept 2nd to December 31st will be paid January 1st.
