Hello investors,

I'm considering going for VGIF but pls is this investment as safe as Tbills? and is the interest paid upfront like T-bills?

Thanks
Investment is safe but interest is earned daily and paid twice a year - January and July with option to reinvest interest (compounding).

@emmasoft, thank you for the enlightenment. Please concerning the Vantage Gurranteed income fund VGIF,

1. Is the capital preserved? I mean is it 100% certain that no matter what happens, one is sure to get his capital back?

2. Is there any holding period during which one cannot withdraw his funds at all (or withdraw it without charges)? If there are charges if one withdraws early, are such aharges on the capital or on the accrued interest?

Thank you as I await you valued response.
1. Yes! Capital is preserved base on the underlying asset it's not a balance or equity fund. Sure you get your capital back there are other parties involved in mutual funds- trustees, custodian in case anything happens.

2. For VGIF, holding period is six (6) months. However, if a unit holder/investor decides to redeem all or part of the funds you lose 10% of the accrued interest only. Nothing is charged on the capital otherwise no penalty whatsoever.
Example: If you invest 1m and in 3 months which is less than the holding period you decide to redeem 200k, you will lose 10% of the accrued interest on 200k only.

You can call/chat. contact is on my signature for more if need be. Thank you.

Pls what viable investment can I invest in?
Av got 500k lying In my account . is it advisable to put it into bonds. And will there be reasonable amount of profit .
Two options depending on your risk tolerance:

If your risk tolerance is low go for mutual fund. Vantage guaranteed income fund VGIF recommended
If you can take risk and having long term in mind go for GTBank and Zenith bank shares even at the current price it's ok though if you get it lower better.
You can do any of the options or both with Investment One (former GTBank Asset Management) to open account click the link on my signature.
Everything is done online and you have the opportunity to monitor your investment anywhere you are in the world.

N.B: Investment one will never ask for cash to open any of the products account.

Closed period for Zenith is 6th July, 2020

Will others follow suit?

Time for the bears to temporarily chill?

I hope some took advantage already.
Others like UBA and Access that can follow will do that. We know them it's their culture. From 25kobo to 30kobo. However we don't know may be Covid-19 will bring it back to 25kobo. We hope for the best.

To the Investment gurus, please I need an advice.

I have a capital of 20M naira idling away in Nigeria because am not presently around. I have followed sound arguments for weeks on this platform, but confused on direction to take. I did TB briefly before it's current low interest rates.

Will Fixed deposit be ideal for now or stocks? I would have preferred a business but for the fact that am not available. Am open to Investment options.

I am scared of so many digital Agricultural schemes.

Thank you.
I will advise you to do mutual fund while waiting for opportunity like sukuk. Eventually when you have time to be available you can run a biz if you have to because what you can't monitor you can not measure and what you can't measure you can not appraise and what you can't appraise it's like working in the dark.

As usual I will recommend VGIF managed by investment one. You can do all things online.
It's flexible, tenor is determined by the investor. Free entry and exit.

There is Gurranteed rate of 7.5% benchmark with SDF with a promise of additional gains which most times translate to additional 2.5 to 3%. In essence we are looking at about 10.5%. You can open account online by clicking on the link on my signature or contact through my number.

Pls, What is the interest rate on MMF now?
MMFs rates on the average is 5.5% currently, actual value depends on the firm and it's valued daily. It's not static. TBills rate is a major determining factor

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Whenever I log in, I only see the total accrued interest as at today. I don’t get to see the previous accrued daily interest like a schedule. I hope you get my question.
That is how the system is designed. If you wish to know the amount added, just note the current accrued interest and by the next day you can get the difference and with that you know the amount added daily.

Example: The amount added is the 7.5% of your current principal prorated to a day. ie if you have 1m as principal that gives 75,000 a year interest which translate to 75000/366 which is 204.92 a day interest. So the 204.92 will be added daily till you have a different principal and principal changes only when you top up, reinvest your accrued interest or when you redeem part of your funds.

N.B: the 366 is used because the current year is leap year otherwise it's 365.

Oga Emma, please is the VGIF fund daily return calculated using simple or compound interest?

Secondly, how can someone check the daily accrued interest of previous days. It seems the online platform only shows the total sum of the accrued interest.

Thank you
The interest is earned daily by simply interest and it's compounded when u decide to reinvest your interest at d end of every six month.
So if you picked reinvest option, the accrued interest from the day you join till June 30th would have be reinvested July 1st so the capital plus that interest becomes the new principal and it goes on and on (compounding)

You can see daily accrued interest when you check the fund statement after you login. The principal is clearly separated from the interest and the interest changes daily while the principal only changes when you top up or your interest is reinvested.

Covid-19 lesson Among many lessons we have learnt in this covid-19 era is that the period has help us to look at the difference between wants and needs and this is very critical if you wish to embark on investment journey.
Needs simply means what you must have it is the necessities of life. Things that you cannot do without. On the other hand, wants is things you can do without (good to have) ie something desirable. Luxury items is in this category; however luxury is relative it depends on your economic and social status because what is a luxury to a low income earner can be a normal life for the rich or super rich.

The lesson here is that being able to know the clear difference on what you really need to survive and what you considered wants can help your saving culture and ultimately your investment.
This period has helped to cut off some excess and make us focus on the reality.
Though not seen as positive occurrence, yet the period has thought us that we can actually live below our means and have more for the raining day.

If you have made more savings as a result of cut in some excesses and practiced a little frugality this period, it’s time to put your money to work. Invest in secured and safe instrument that guaranteed 7.5% interest with Investment One (former GTBank Asset Management)

With management scooping up 65% of the excess gain, could you please share the implied Expense Ratios for those six years? Thanks.
From the fact of the fund,
The fund manager gets paid out of the excess gain of the fund and its shared as stated
35% for investors
15% reserved
50% for all the various fees (Trustees, custodian and others) that make up the expense ratio.
Over the years the excess above the SDF is in the range of 4% sometimes slightly less or more.
Whatever now accrued to the fund manager each year now depends on what that percentage translate to in terms of real figures.
This is a win win case because the fund manager have to work hard to make sure there is excess since that is where their fees comes from.
The investor on the other hand already has a Guaranteed rate which is not affected by the performance of the fund in anyway.

You are so bent on selling or pitching the VGIF fund, I am sure if people feel confident and convinced enough you really do not need to push this hard on every page. My thoughts.
@Godbpraised you can see clearly that my responses are always to prospective investors who have questions and need clarifications. I am not pushing hard or doing anything outside what is is allowed in the corporate world. Everything is a matter of choice. I hope you know how large operators like Glo, MTN etc are currently and as we speak they still want to convince the public why consumers should patronize them.
In as much as there are investors interested in the product and make enquiries, I will talk about it. It's a matter of choice. Thanks anyway for your observation it shows you noticed and aware of the product already. I wish more people to be aware of the product.

Can you redeem all your funds at a go after maturity?
.or put better

Is there a minimum account balance I have to maintain?
You can withdraw all funds if you wish or redeem in part. The truth is that there is really nothing like maturity. you are the one that determines how long you wish to operate the fund account. VGIF is not like Tbills that has tenors. It's not tenor based. Most times investor operates it like a special savings account. You are free to operate it as you wish.

If there is a loss on the fund, what happens?.
It's in the fixed income category of mutual fund. it's not a balance or equity fund. There will not be loss since the underlying assets that can have material effect on the fund is invested in fixed income instrument, hence we have the trustees and custodian to the fund to make sure the fund is invested in the agreed assets as per the prospectus with Sec. Anything otherwise means contravening Sec rules and no reputable investment house like investment one will like to do that.

Pls, my T-Bills is maturing in two weeks. i'll like to invest in VGIF. can you explain to me how it really works and how do i go about it when i'm ready to invest? expecting your response. Thanks.
VGIF - Vantage Gurranteed income fund is a mutual fund in the fixed income category.
It has its rate benchmark with SDF.
It's currently 8.5%
Though there is a circular already issued as per SDF review by CBN which will take effect on VGIF by 1st of July that will make the Gurranteed rate to be 7.5%. Apart from the guaranteed rate, investors also get additional 35% of excess gain of the fund, though this is not fixed or Gurranteed, it's however paid every year at least for the past 6 years. The interest is prorated and earned daily but will be paid twice a year July and January or reinvested same time if an investor opt for reinvestment. It has a minimum holding period of 6months. The initial minimum deposit is 50k after that you can top up with any amount at any interval.
You can open account now and fund it later when your Tbills matures. You don't need cash to open VGIF account.

can u tell me 4 reasons i should not invest in suku 11.3 vs VGIF 8.5 as a rational investor?
Sukuk and VGIF are two different forms of investment windows and operated differently.
It serves different purpose for different investors as per their investment objectives.
For instance while waiting for another primary auction for sukuk for a low risk tolerance investor, VGIF can be a good alternative since you can be topping up with any amount at any interval.
In this instance VGIF is compared with Tbills and MMF not Sukuk.

At what time can i withdraw the funds if for instance iam no longer interested in the investment?.
You can do that anytime. It's like withdrawing cash from your bank account. No penalty except the withdrawal is being made earlier that six months of investing and in that case you lose 10% of your accrued interest with principal intact.

if one goes for the 182days will the interest be paid twice in 6month?
VGIF is not like Tbills. There is no tenor. Investors keep it as long as they want. All interest is per annum. The six months is not tenor it's just a holding period. You are free to hold VGIF for any period base on your investment objectives. At anytime you start your investment, your interest is prorated for the period your capital is invested.

Example if one invest in VGIF this morning, you will get interest for 15th to 30th of June on your capital paid to you on1st of July cos payment is made 1st July and 1st January of each year.

And one can keep adding or topping up as you will right? What I mean is, assuming I start with 50k in month 1, then in month 2, up to month 6 I can keep adding say 50k as I wish?
When you say 6 months holding period, which does it affect, is it for each deposit? Which implies, I can only take out the first 50k at exactly the sixth month and the others in the same order in which they were invested?
Yes you can keep topping up with any amount at any interval. it's like savings account. There is no regulation on amount or interval of deposit after the initial 50k.

Holding period affects any fresh deposit. However, if any investor wishes to withdraw within the 6 months you only lose 10% of the accrued interest of what you are withdrawing ie if you deposit 100k and you decide to withdraw 20k under 6 months you only lose 10% of the accrued interest on the 20k not the 100k, there is no circumstance where investors will have their principal reduced.

Could you explain how this VGIF works?
VGIF- Vantage Guaranteed Income Fund, is a mutual fund in the fixed income category. VGIF guaranteed interest rate (8.5%) is benchmark with SDF- standard deposit facility (rate CBN give to banks for their deposit), hence it changes only when CBN review it upward or downward.

Initial minimum deposit for VGIF is 50k and minimum holding period six months. Interest is earned daily but paid twice in a year. Interest can be paid out or reinvested whatever the investor prefers and mandate can be changed if need arises. Principal can be top up at any interval with any amount convenient with the investor.
Apart from the guaranteed rate there is extra rate that can be earned from the excess gains of the fund.
Investors can operate their account online and monitor their investment on the go.

VGIF is managed by Investment One (Former GTBank Asset Management).
To open account, click on the link on my signature and complete the form online with the following document (kyc) uploaded - passport, acceptable ID Card (any of int'l passport, national ID Card, NIN slip, permanent voters card, or drivers license) and your signature.
