Good morning guys!
Learnt Shoprite is leaving Nigeria after its 15 years of coming in. Do you see that as a red flag?
Soja go Soja come barracks remain. Nigeria is a big market. Don't be surprised if they leave more of such stores will come. Most of this establishments if they have not entered Nigeria market they don't seems fulfilled. They may end up not leaving because what they benefits here far outweighs the downside

For the mutual funds , can the person top up as someone in canada wants to know about this . Can this be opened online without appearance?is bvn needed as he doesnt hv Nigerian Acct. pls enlighten me
For VGIF, investors can top up anytime with any amount.
VGIF account can be opened, monitored and funds redeemed online. The physical presence of the investors are not required for any of our operations.
BVN is required to open VGIF account. It's part of the regulatory (SEC) requirements to open investment account.

Very true..! Money in can be more silent in fixed income than real time business.
Some fixed income investors actually do it for security reasons more than for the rate.

Pls house I need answer to this question. Is it a must that Bank Confirmation of signature for estate account must be up to 6 months before transmission of shares especially for Guinness and Nigerian Breweries?
This is frustrating and I need a way out.
Generally that is the usual practice an account must be six months or more old before confirmation of signature can be issue on it.
It's not because it's estate account.

The loss on risky investment windows is more devastating and sometimes victims never recover from it than the perceived loss as a result of investing in low risk investment windows which in most cases leave investors with ready made cash anytime they liquidate with much of a relaxed mind.

Most of these problems - stealing, dishonesty, greedy employees, disasters both natural and man made etc are what some people don't put into consideration to think that fixed income investors are wasting time settling for between 5 to 12% ROI. I have always said it here when it comes to investment generally safety of your capital is paramount. Look at Okomu for instance people like me don't even have what it takes to cultivate up to a plot but I benefit from a cultivation of hectares of land by Okomu, many don't even understand fully well all the economic terms but they are relaxed and compounding their investment in mutual funds like VGIF without even a degree in finance because they gave all those headaches to some people they call fund managers. So let's always consider different angles when it comes to building wealth. Do what is best and comfortable with you and don't downplay what others are comfortable doing to create and preserve wealth. God bless all our hustles.

Sir is there a minimum amount of shares one have to hold to receive dividend?
As per the NSE, the minimum amount of a company's shares you can hold is one unit.
You are qualified to benefit from dividend declared whether interim or full year once you hold at least a unit of a company's shares on or after the closure date of register of shareholders in respect to the corporate action. The amount of dividend received is determined by the quantity of shares held.

Using MTN, if you have at least a unit of shares of MTN before 17th August 2020 and after that date, you are qualified for the interim dividend declared and payable on the 24th of August 2020.

Does this not mean that if i put such money in a high yield savings account that capitalizes monthly, i could outperform any MMF or any fund in the same category as VGIF?.
How high is the yield? Don't forget that those money you kept with the banks find their way into funds like VGIF and don't always forget WHT when it comes to banks which is not there for mutual funds.

Thanks. Clearer now.
Are January and July 1st fixed dates or 6 months from when each person make his deposit?
The dates are fixed. Irrespective of the day you invest, the interest is prorated. You don't have to wait till six months before you are paid interest.
If for example you invest in the fund today all your accrued interest from today till 31st of December will be paid or reinvested on 1st of January depending on your option as regards interest utilization.

Oh! I understand now. Thanks sir.

Not just MTN, nearly all telcos. On data alone, i spend nearly 10k per month.

How can one own a telecommunications company?... undecided...those guys are making blood money!!!
You can be part of the owners of any company telecommunications inclusive by buying their shares. For example you can be part of the owners of mtn if you buy the shares of mtn and you will benefit from the money they are making.
Shareholders of mtn will collect N3.5 by 24th of August 2020 as interim dividend.

Is that right? I thought each day's interest gets added to the capital on VGIF?
That is what is obtainable in mutual funds especially those that are not price based.
Interest is earned daily but paid according to what is specified on the funds prospectus.

For VGIF, interest is paid 1st July and 1st January and if you opt for reinvestment of interest (compounding) the accrued interest will be reinvested on those days otherwise it's credited to your bank account.

Why does that option have to be picked?. I thought interest being capitalized automatically equates to compounding.
It has to be picked because investors in mutual funds have their different objectives while investing. Some investors prefer to invest their interest from mutual funds in other forms of investment while some use theirs for sustainance.
N. B interest becomes part of your capital (capitalized) only at the date of payment not as it is earned. ie interest earned daily but paid or capitalized quarterly for MMF and biannually for VGIF.

My people, how can one utilize the compounding option in mutual fund investment. How does it work?
It's automatic if you picked that option during your account opening process. That is what obtains at investment one and I want to believe it's same for other fund managers

I have always suggested it. mutual fund is your best bet with VGIF recommended because the rate is better than mmf presently. it's a good way to keep funds pending when you are ready for business or other ventures. I have written extensively on it on this thread and mutual fund thread. My contact is also there if you want to chat or call me.

Thanks bro.

Please, how do I know the ones that are equity based. I just want to be sure my capital will be intact even if the interest is not guaranteed
On a general note, most mutual funds are named base on the under laying assets. They always have terns like equity, balance etc attached, even if such terms are not added in their nomenclature, by reading the facts of the fund or prospectus of the fund you will know by looking at the various percentages of the fund invested in various underlaying asset. You can call if you have any other clarifications. My contact is on signature.

Good day sir.
I successfully filled out the form to have an account with investment one. I ensured I selected VGIF as well as stockbroking.

I got an email today that the stockbroking account has been opened successfully, but nothing on VGIF and the other options I selected.
Am I to use the stockbroking account to fund the others?
For the fact that you got notification for stockbroking it means other products account is opened too. The customer number is the same for all products. However, the account to transfer fund to are different for each product. you can send mail to customercare@investment-one.com or better still just

@emmasoft

Is there possibility of loosing one's capital in Axa Mansard Mutual fund investment.

I am thinking of putting some money there
Speaking generally for mmfs, your capital is Safe. But your interest is not Gurranteed. It's basically dependent on the state of Tbills In d country. Whether it's AXA, ibtc, Fbnquest or my own investment one they all have same features. Though some mmf rates slightly higher than the other they are all within the same region 4.2 to 5%
N. B: Generally if the mutual fund is balanced or equity based, there is possibility you can lose your capital. Be well guided.
Investment › Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by emmasoft(m):

What advantage does VGIF have over Axa mansards money market funds.
Similarities: They are both mutual funds, interest accrued daily which can be paid out or reinvested and are tax free. There is free entry and exit for both. No specific amount or time that regulates your deposit. Any amount anytime can be deposited.

Differences: Axa is mmf, while VGIF is in d fixed income category, interest ie rate for Axa is daily valued VGIF interest is benchmark with SDF- standard deposit facility (rate CBN give to commercial banks for their deposit), initial minimum deposit for VGIF is 50k and minimum holding period six months Axa minimum initial deposit is 2k and holding period 30 days.
Major Advantage of VGIF over Axa
The rate of VGIF is higher at 7.5%
It's guaranteed
AXa is 4.96%, not guaranteed, daily valued and 70 - 75% dependent on TBills rate.

N.B: the features of Axa particularly the low rate is not because of the fund manager's inability to perform but it's the features and current state of MMFs generally irrespective of the fund manager.
Presently I will advice you go for VGIF since it's also a low risk investment instrument with a higher rate.

Since I do not have #50,000,000 and above for now for FG bonds, I would need candid and profitable advice where to invest some money on hand right now - treasury bills due has been remitted, one more due next month.

Fbn fixed income fund, how good is that?

Thanks already.

~Concerned fellow
An alternative for Tbills investors remain VGIF. It's a fund that guaranteed both capital and returns just like Tbills but rate is far higher compare to Tbills right now. With VGIF on the long run you are sure of 10.5% or slightly more with a good fund manager like Investment one. Each year an extra rate of about 2.5 to 3% is expected above the guaranteed rate of 7.5%. You can register online at the comfort of your location no stress. It's free entry and exit. click the link on my signature to register online.

What of those that bought shares with companies that have folded up or merged with another in quest for survival. What are the chances of recovering them back at least with the physical certificate being the only evidence
Currently you don't really need physical certificate whatsoever as proof of your holding in any company. Once you know the company you invested in, go to the registrar of such company with an acceptable ID card you will be sorted.
If the company folded up like the likes of Skye bank, bank PHB, that is a loss nothing for you it's one of the risk of holders of ordinary shares of companies.

However, if the company merged or is bought by another viable company, you will get the number of shares due to you in the new entity e.g CCNN to BUA cement, Ashaka to Larfage. In this case, you will need a broker, that is where cscs account comes in again because you will be given a demart form by the registrar that will be processed by your broker in conjunction with the registrar and cscs to enable you have your holdings in such company in your cscs account.
