Politics › Re: Insecurity: Buhari, Ahmed Lawan, Gbajabiamila In Closed-Door Meeting by EMMNIG: 3:49pm On Feb 03, 2020 |
Omooba77: The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), is meeting with the leadership of the National Assembly.
The President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, walked into the venue of the meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, at 3.04pm.
The agenda of the closed-door meeting is not disclosed officially.
However, The PUNCH gathered from credible National Assembly sources that Lawan and Gbajabiamila came to formally hand over last week’s resolutions of both chambers on the state of insecurity in the country to Buhari.
Recall that last week, the House had urged the President to sack the service chiefs.
On its part, the Senate sought the declaration of emergency on insecurity.
“The Senate President and the Speaker are here to present the resolutions to Mr President.
“They also will hear Mr President’s answers to take to their colleagues in the chambers on Tuesday (tomorrow)”, a National Assembly official informed The PUNCH.

Family › Re: Moms! Quit Putting Little Girls Through Torture In The Name Of Braiding Hair. by EMMNIG: 6:35pm On Dec 23, 2019 |
computergeek: Why do we have to teach little girls to go through unbearable pain for so-called beauty even when they are only a few months old?
I get so upset each time I see a little girl crying for hours unending at the salon while they pull, poke and prod her hair. The moms would actually be the ones holding the girls down while the hairdressers harden their hearts to the children's tears. I always wonder, what exactly are you trying to achieve by putting your child through so much pain just to have her sporting a few awkward-looking weaves? Since she's not old enough to decide that this is what she wants, she shouldn't be stressed and hurt just to look pretty. Are they looking for suitors? Do they have to start so early to stress to impress?
With her natural hair, well-oiled, combed and packed nicely into buns or tails, she'll still be the beautiful princess you gave birth to. I really hate children being put through any sort of skin pain. When my son was a baby, he was fussy about getting his hair cut, so much that we used to wait till he was deeply asleep before clipping his hair. Sometimes we'd only manage to go halfway, but we'll leave it like that until he sleeps again.
How do fathers permit this? When we were growing up, my dad would personally insist on the hairdresser coming to our place to braid so he could sternly warn her to go easy on our heads. When he saw that we still cried regardless, he had them cut off all our hair . We hated it then, but at least the gut-wrenching crying stopped.
Some little girls would be sick for days from the tight, skin-breaking braids their mothers would allow someone to put on their heads.
I remember a day I was getting a manicure at the salon, a little girl whose mom had dropped her off was getting hair done at the corner. She cried so much that after a while, there were no tears left to shed. Her irresponsible mother came back after a while and said, "Obego nke izizi?" As in, "Has she cried the first round?"
Just imagine.
Mothers please, this festive period, if your daughter hasn't been tortured yet, kindly look for something that won't cause her any pain and have them style her hair with it (shown in the second photo). She's beautiful however she looks. You're not in a competition with anybody to have the finest child. That's how they'll grow up to believe that they can never be beautiful without weaves and braids. I totally disagree with your u, plaiting of hair at tender age is good for a girl child, because it prepares the child for the challenges that is attached to the future especially pains during labour. In my culture it is assume that a female who cannot bear the pains of plaiting can't as well bear the pain of labour. Thanks |

Pr0cter: The major disadvantage is that for international study, most countries requires you authenticate your original certificate at Ministry of education and ministry of foreign affairs. This won't be possible with a laminated result. Not correct dear, you don't authenticate ur original credentials cos if u do, your original certs becomes invalid, so it's photocopies that u will get stamped on fj. |

Yakubu Dogara, Speaker House of Representatives
The House of Representatives on Wednesday abolished age discrimination against job seekers in Federal Government Ministries, Agencies and Departments (MDAs).
This followed the passage, by the lawmakers, of a “Bill for an Act to Eradicate the Age Discrimination against Job seekers in Federal Government Agencies,” sponsored by Sergius Ogun (APC, Edo) and Babajimi Benson (APC, Lagos).
The bill, which was read for the second time in 2018, subsequently passed third reading after unanimous adoption by the lawmakers and Speaker Yakubu Dogara.
Ogun, moving a motion for a third reading of the bill, said the new law seeks to ensure that no Nigerian job seeker is disqualified from government employment on the basis of age.
He noted that the bill, when enacted, would first take effect in Federal Government MDAs with the hope that private employers of labour would follow suit later.
“It is a key responsibility of we parliamentarians, as representatives of the people, to ensure that no Nigerian job seeker is discriminated against with regard to age in employment opportunities in Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs),” Ogun submitted.
The lawmaker added that the bill would also ensure that the fundamental human rights of job seekers are safeguarded while significantly reducing the spiralling number of unemployed graduates and school leavers on the streets.
He lamented that the incessant strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has made it almost impossible for Nigerian university students to graduate within stipulated time, hence the necessity of the bill.
Meanwhile, Benson, a co-sponsor of the bill, pointed out that apart from age, sex, religion and ethnicity, were other variables in which discrimination is rampant in government employment.
He therefore called for the abolition of such barriers that “deprives qualified, energetic, and patriotic Nigerians the opportunity to fulfil their goals and contribute to societal development.”
In his contribution, Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun (APC, Osun) argued that the major aim of the bill has been taken care of by relevant provisions of the 1999 Constitution as amended, which if enforced, could be taken advantage of by anyone affected by discrimination in government employment.
For House spokesman, Abdulrazak Namdas (APC, Adamawa), age ceiling for job seekers could only apply to societies with stable education calendar, not in Nigeria with recurring strikes, especially in public universities.
When put to voice vote by Speaker Yakubu Dogara, the bill was unanimously adopted and passed for third reading.
