PoliticsGovernor Wike Sacks State Commissioner For Works Harrison Iheanyichukwu by Emmyloaded(op):
Governor Nyesom Wike, of Rivers state, has sacked Harrison Iheanyichukwu, the state commissioner for works.

The development comes a little over a year after Iheanyichukwu took over from Kevin Wachukwu, who was also sacked.

Simeon Nwakaudu, the governor’s special assistant on electronic media, confirmed Iheanyichukwu’s sack in a statement on Thursday.

Nwakaudu said the sack takes immediate effect.

Harrison was directed to hand over to the permanent secretary in the ministry, while no reason was given for the action.

Since he took office in May 2015, Wike has sacked many members of his cabinet.

In February, he fired Theophilus Ndagene, the commissioner for health.

Ndagene’s removal preceded that of Wachuku, who the governor accused Wachuku of living below expectation.

“I have a covenant with the people of Rivers state to develop this state. And anybody who is going to work with me must work at my speed and not at your own speed,” he had said while announcing the ex-commissioner’s sack.

“Nobody should come and drag me back like the former commissioner. Wachukwu is intelligent, but he could not meet up with the pace of work at the ministry.”

Five months after making that utterance, Wike suspended four commissioners, head of service and his special adviser on lands.

Jobs/VacanciesThree N-power Volunteers Establish Mini-laboratory At Otokutu by Emmyloaded(op):
Three female volunteers in the N-Health programme have established a mini laboratory at the Primary Health Centre, Otokutu, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta.

The volunteers are Jennifer Angese (2013 Pharmacology graduate of Delta State University); Mary James (2011 Microbiology graduate of Unijos); and Harriet Azurundu (2001, BSc Microbiology – Imo State University – and 2008 MLSc –UPTH).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the trio contributed money to purchase the equipment and establish the laboratory in April, barely four months of their deployment to the PHC to provide medical outreach to the rural community.

Narrating their experiences when the Monitoring and Evaluation team of N-Power visited the centre, James said they felt pity for the community which had the centre for long but travelled far to access medical facilities.

She said that rather than seek deployment they made contributions from their token to purchase the equipment in bits in order to make meaningful impact in the community.

According to her, the equipment comprising both electrical and manual types, are worth about N100,000 but that some tests are delayed in the centre due to epileptic power and lack of alternative power source.

She said that her colleagues were teaching in private schools and receiving pittance prior to the N-power job, but noted that the scheme had offered them the opportunity to practice their profession and gain experience.

James said the community was excited about the development but had not made additional input due to poverty, “but we hope someone, someday will do that for the sake of the rural people’’.

She said that due to epileptic power the lab always concluded the samples tests, and issued the results the same day of collection.

She said some patients were referred to bigger facilities if they had to wait for the results for more than a day, “but we work for as long as possible to make patients’ results ready’’.

Azurundu, another volunteer, added that since the provision of the laboratory no fewer than 70 patients including pregnant women, the aged and children had their blood, urine and other samples tested for proper diagnosis and treatment.

“We assumed duty in February and since we discovered that there was no laboratory section here we decided to set up one to assist in proper diagnosis and treatment of patients.

“The lab has been of great help; it has improved the services of the health workers in the health centre.

“Since we started lab tests we have had almost 70 patients benefitting but we have attended to others without actually putting them in our records,’’ Azurundu said.

She said that apart from the help that the people needed it had been her dream to be able to touch lives in one way or the other and “N-Power has given me that room and opportunity to touch lives’’.

On her part, Angese noted that the patients were often tested free or charged only 50 per cent of the cost of the examination to encourage others to access adequate medicare due to poverty.

The volunteers thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and Acting President Yemi Osinbajo for initiating the N-Power programme because it had touched so many lives.

They acknowledged that from the stipends they were able also to help in family upkeep and support their siblings in their education.

The volunteers said they were not expecting the federal government to terminate the programme after two years, but rather to strengthen it because “we will not like to go back after two years doing nothing.

“We hope it will continue in a better way.’’

NAN also reports that the laboratory is equipped with syringes, piercing needles, various reagents, glucometer, cotton swaps, feed stains, oil immersion, microscope, mirror, plastercine, capillary tubes.

Others are blood-count equipment, methylated spirit, HIV reagents, puppets, EDTA collection bottles, hand gloves, wither kits, counting chamber, improvised slide racks, an electric-powered centrifuge as well as a hand-powered centrifuge.

Mr John James, the husband of Mary James, who visited the centre at the time of the monitoring, thanked the federal government for its transparency in the recruitment of the volunteers.

John, a Veterinary graduate-turned logistics specialist, who lost his job in December due to the death of his employer, said that the wife had been sustaining the family from her stipend.

“N-Power is another door that has opened for our family and I encourage the volunteers not to focus attention on the stipend but ensure that they become true professionals during the two-year programme.

“I thank God Almighty and his instrument, President Muhammadu Buhari, and pray that God grants him sound health and also his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, for this programme,’’ he said.

The Presidential aide on Job Creation, Mr Afolabi Imoukhuede, expressed gratitude to the volunteers for their painstaking effort to live out the dream of the programme by impacting on the society.

He urged them to continue in their stride as by their conduct they had opened new vistas in their lives.

Imoukhuede also expressed gladness with the performance of the volunteers in Nana Model Secondary and Primary Schools, Warri, and those at the Central Hospital Warri.

However, he told the Medical Director of the Warri Hospital to cancel the one-day off granted to the volunteers weekly since the programme was a full time volunteer scheme without shifts, night or weekend duty.

At a private investor integrated fish farm in Warri, Imoukhuede thanked the proprietor for making the massive facility available for the N-Agro participants to acquire more practical knowledge on fisheries.

An N-Agro volunteer, Mrs Ese Adiomamore, told NAN that the scheme was a sure way of achieving the self-sufficiency in food production and economic diversification programme of the present administration. (NAN)
PoliticsAmendment Of NLNG Bill: We Shall Defend The Economy Of Rivers State - Gov. Wike by Emmyloaded(op):
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that his administration will always defend the economy of Rivers State and the South-South geo-political zone, saying that the state government will join forces with other governors of the zone to stop the amendment of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited Bill .

The governor also stated that agitations in the South-South have remained rife, because the authorities ignore the geo-political zone, even though the people produce the wealth that sustains the nation.

Speaking on Tuesday night at the Government House Port Harcourt during a courtesy visit by the management of the NLNG Limited, Governor Wike said that the state government will mobilise the state's representatives at the National Assembly to ensure that the NLNG Limited remains in good stead to continue with her operations.

He urged the Federal Government not to allow the amendment of the NLNG act to sail through at the National Assembly because of the negative multiplier effect it would on the economy.

He said: "Anything that will affect the economy of Rivers State, we will always fight it. It is about Rivers State ".

The governor commended the management of the NLNG for offering to partner with the Federal Government to construct the all-important Bodo -Bonny Bridge.

"I thank you for the Bodo-Bonny bridge. I hope it is not political. I have always advocated for this important bridge. I thank the NLNG for telling the Federal Government that they are willing to put down money for the construction of the bridge ", the governor said.

He pointed out that the people of the South-South geo-political zone always agitate for better investment of their resources in their respective communities because of the neglect they continue to suffer.

He said: "A big company like NLNG Limited generates funds for the country, yet the Bodo-Bonny bridge that will create acceas to Bonny has not been constructed. "

The governor regretted that the focus of the Federal Government is on the major ethnic groups, saying that because the Hausas and Igbos are involved in conflict, a national meeting has been called.

"When it is South-South, Nigeria never called a meeting. But because Arewa has given a quit notice to Igbos and Igbos have replied, now we are to sit down and talk. But when the problem was here, nobody said sit down and let's talk about these people's problems.

"Those who are causing this crisis are those who refuse to listen to the yearnings and cries of the people", Governor Wike said.

He charged the management of the NLNG Limited to bring the construction of the Ship Building Dockyard to the state for the improvement of the economy of Rivers State.

The governor also called on the NLNG Limited to act on the agreement it enterred with the Rivers State Government for the rehabilitation of schools with the sum of N4billion.

Earlier, the Managing Director of NLNG Limited, Mr Tony Attah appealed to the Rivers State Government to work with other stakeholders to ensure that the NLNG Limited bill is not amended as it will negatively affect the operation of the company in the international stage.

He said that the NLNG Limited is operating 6 trains which generates more than 20 million tonnes which makes it the fourth in the global ranking of LNGs . He added that the NLNG Limited is building trains 7 and 8, which will take the capacity of the NLNG to 30million tonnes and make it third in the world.

He said: "I must say that the train 7 and 8 which will be in Rivers State have the potential to bring more than 18, 000 jobs into the state with up to $20billion investments once we take the final decision ".

He said the amendment of the NLNG Limited Act will lead to loss of international confidence, which have negative effect on the economy.

"It will be most unfortunate. We believe that if this bill is amended, it will not be good for NLNG, it will not be good for Rivers State abd it will not be good the oil and gas industry", he said.

PoliticsNigerian Navy Needs $250m To Refit ARADU - Ibas by Emmyloaded(op): 5:16pm On Jun 02, 2017
Indications emerged Friday that the nation’s only multi-roles Frigate, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) ARADU might never go to sea again.

This is because the Nigerian Navy (NN) said it would cost a whopping $250million to refit the vessel, an amount that could buy many Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) and boats to fight current security threats.

The first of the MEKO 360 general purpose frigates built by German Blohm & Voss, Hamburg, NNS ARADU was one of three ships in the world with capabilities for simultaneous anti-air, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare. The ship also had capability for electronic warfare and naval fire support.

Speaking with reporters after the NN Ceremonial Sunset and dinner to mark its 61 anniversary, the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas made it clear that refitting NNS ARADU was not an option for the now, because the Service’ budget was not enough to carry out its core responsibilities for six months.

Ibas said: “Certainly, it is not our desire to allow our ships lie alongside. To refit NNS ARADU, the nation would need over $250million and that is not what the navy can afford for now. We desire to have the ship at sea but as soon as the navy is properly funded, we should be able to refit that vessel and have it at sea.”

“The navy, just like any other service has never gotten what will enable it run for six months talk more of running through the year. But we all understand that the navy is an important service that protects where the resources come from and needs to be given special consideration.

“A lot has been provided for the navy. In a certain way, we cannot even speak so we have to work out other strategies to ensure that we are able to carry out our mandate.”

On how the NN has fared in its 61 years of existence, Ibas admitted there have been a lot of challenges, most of which the service surmounted.

According to him, the nation has in the last few years, been faced with a lot of ups and downs following series of attacks on national security infrastructure.

“The consequences of which saw to the drop in the nation’s revenue coming from oil but it was perfectly restored and we were able to contain the menace with the dedicated taskforce. To that extent, we have been able to provide the needed security at sea and in the past, we were able to contain the menace of militants and keep them away in addition to the dialogue initiated by the federal government.

“You are also conversant with the issue of piracy, which the navy has been able to contain with our credible presence at sea.

“In the last two years, the navy got some boats which the president commissioned. This is in addition to various infrastructural logistics and welfare added to the officers and men.”

Ibas also condemned the fight between naval operatives and policemen in Cross River State, stating that a committee has been set up to probe the cause and ensure there was no repeat.

EducationJAMB Denies Opening Change Of Course / Institution Process For 2017 UTME by Emmyloaded(op): 6:52am On Jun 02, 2017
The Joint Admission And Matriculation Board (JAMB) has denied opening the portal for candidates to change or correct their course, institution or even data for the 2017 UTME.

This announcement came after a large crowd stormed the Ikoyi, Lagos office of JAMB, claiming that JAMB closed the portal to Accredited CBT Centres because they were extorting the candidates. The candidates claimed that JAMB had instructed all CBT centres to refer candidates to only their offices Nationwide.

It was even reported that 9 Candidates Fainted due to the crowd, while trying to successfully effect a change in their Course/Institution.

We're not sure why JAMB released this statement, since many candidates here had confirmed to had successfully effected 2017 Change in Course/Institution at CBT centres.

Read the statement released by the Head of Media and Information of JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin below;

Benjamin said that reports reaching the headquarters of the board indicated that a large crowd of candidates on Wednesday besieged the board’s Lagos office.

He said the development was creating unnecessary anxiety and chaos where there should be none.

"This announcement became necessary following the crowd in our offices by candidates demanding for such services.

"Affected candidates are urged to remain calm as we shall contact them when the time is right.

"The request for correction of data is usually from candidates, who provided wrong information while filling their application document online," Benjamin said.

According to him, the change of institutions is for those who are considering other preferences other than their initial choices.

He noted that the candidates were misled to believe that the board had started such services and would soon close.

He said that when the board opened the window for correction of data and change of course it would make the announcement.

He assures all candidates desirous of carrying out the correction of data or change of institution that the board would ensure that enough time was given for them to do so.

Benjamin also explained that the board had not finished with the conduct of the 2017 UTME.

"The board is still conducting examinations for those who registered late and those who could not be verified during the examination.

"As such, it will be unfair to them to open window for such correction and changes at the same time.

"Our reforms are meant to make our services accessible to all conveniently."

He also said that JAMB would decentralise the service when it eventually opened its portal for it.

"We are collaborating with the University of Lagos, Yaba College of Technology and other stakeholders on this in Lagos. We will do same in other states.

"This will ease the pressure on our various offices and ensure a hitch-free process."

Cross River State government says it will take responsibility for damages incurred following the clash between the police and the Navy in Calabar Metropolis.

Addressing journalists in Calabar, after an emergency meeting with heads of security agencies in the state, Governor Ben Ayade said the situation has since been brought under control as residents who were earlier thrown into confusion are now going about their normal business.

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme Brigadier General Paul Boroh (Rtd) has called for unity and mutual respect among security agencies in the country during the course of discharging their duties.

He was reacting to a recent face-off between officers of the Nigeria Police and the naval command in Calabar, Cross River State.

General Boroh who is in Calabar ahead of a state visit by Acting President Professor Yemi Osinbajo today, met with the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral James Oluwole.

Rear Admiral James Oladapo Oluwole on his part gave an assurance that the situation involving the Navy and Police has been put under control with no civilian casualty.

He confirmed that normalcy has been restored but that investigations are on-going to determine what triggered the regrettable incident.
NYSCAn Open Letter From An Aggrieved Corp Member To The Director General Of Nysc by Emmyloaded(op):
From an aggrieved Corp Member serving in Kogi State
N19, 800: A Salary, An Allowance or A Peanut.

I picked up my writing materials from a bitter heart based on the suffering of the Nigerian Corp Members serving their fatherland with a monthly pay of N19, 800.

Let me start from the camping exercise where it all started. An average Prospective Corp Member spent nothing less than N30, 000 to prepare for the camping exercise. Like that was not enough, we meet the extortion of our lives in the camp.

We found out that the sockets in the lodges were disconnected from power supply and it was prohibited to charge our phones using any of the available sockets so that we can pay at the camp market.

We went to the camp kitchen for food, and found a meal that cannot satisfy a year old baby. We went to the camp market, food and other items were so costly that we began to wonder whether we are still in Nigeria or one sort of desert in Afghanistan.

An average expenditure in the camp is about N40, 000 not forgetting the N3, 000 plus we paid during registration. We were given N2, 500 in the camp as if it was enough to cover our transport expenses.

Now the real game began as soon as we were given our posting letters, we paid for the vehicles provided by the LGA’s to convey us to the LGA Secretariat. Thanks to the religious organizations that saved us from another lodging expenses.

On getting to our Place of Primary Assignments (PPA’s), for those who were not rejected, we were welcomed with a very interested slogan, “NO PAY, NO ACCOMMODATION”. Not considering that the state does not pay as well. To the best of my knowledge, only about 10% of the 36 states including the FCT pays Corp Members.

For those posted to cities, towns, rural areas and remote villages spend from N100,000 - N200,000, N70,000 – N80,000, N30,000 - N65,000 and N10,000 – N20,000 respectively on accommodation not including household items.

Some of the employers will give us camp foam (mattress). I don’t know whether they expect us to spread it under the nearest tree and make a hut. Yes, some of the employers provide accommodation but it can only be about 5% of them.

I observe that no supervision is carried out when private establishments request for Corp Members, because I have seen Corp Members sent to mushroom firms that cannot even pay their direct employees let alone caring for a Corp Member.

Corp Members are being treated unjustly in their PPA’s and when we complain, we are being threatened with a query by the employer or extension of service by our coordinators.

In all these expenses, we are expected to survive with N19,800. We are really suffering, we cannot continue to be quite and die serving a country that does not care for our well-being. All we keep on hearing is “think of what you can do for your country and not what your country can do for you” and we forget that when you visit home on three consecutive occasions without biscuits for the children, then count yourself as an unwanted visitor.

Any Corp Member that do not have “GARRI” in the cupboard is seriously joking, because sometimes it will become doctor’s prescription which you have to drink three times a day for survival. We are also expected to report at our PPA’s four times a week and to embark on Community Development Service (CDS) once every week on an empty stomach.

There are so many things to talk about but just calculate the expenses I just outlined at an average rate, then you will discover that N19,800 for 12 months is not appreciable. Our predecessors complained when things are not as bad as it is now, so imagine what we are going through.

Days has gone when Corp Members were respected and given most things free of charge. Nowadays, we do not identify ourselves as Corp Members in the marketplace or bus stops. Just make a mistake and go to the market with your face cap, you will buy a pepper of N50 at the rate of N200 all in the name of N19, 800 and we are also expected to save for the future. I could love to continue but for the sake of my readers, let me drop my pen.

All the constituted authorities should please do something towards the increment of the monthly peanut. Because if you call it “A Salary”, you are wrong. If you call it “An Allowance”, you are very wrong.

My regards.

EducationJAMB Accuses Missionary School In Abia For Championing Exam Malpractice by Emmyloaded(op):
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has accused a missionary school in Abia to have been involved in examination malpractice in the course of the recently held exam across the Nation.

The head, media and information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, in a statement on Tuesday, said, “A very disturbing and unfortunate case is that of a school in Abia where cables were seen to have been connected secretly to a distant hall for hired mercenaries to write for candidates.

“This is very unfortunate given the fact that the school is a missionary school and supposed to be a leading light against such vices.

“But, rather, it was conniving, supporting and indeed championing the evil course of examination malpractice,” Benjamin said in the statement.”

He said such results would be treated in accordance with the provision of the law.

Benjamin said results of the just concluded 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination had since been released, with a few others still being reviewed.

He said, “We want to appeal to Nigerians to understand that such candidates whose results are being reviewed may not necessarily have participated in any malpractice.

“But rather, centres, where they sat for the examination, had issues during the conduct of examination.

“These issues were reflected on the CCTV footage and this suggests why they must be carefully investigated before releasing such results.”

According to him, a task force has been inaugurated by the Registrar of the Board, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, to look into all such issues and has since concluded the review of the CCTV footages and other evidence presented.

He said that the task force would forward its reports to the appropriate quarters for the scrutiny and onward release of all remaining results.

“We urge candidates to note that no result will be withheld without a cogent reason as this explains why we are taking time to ensure that those who are innocent are exonerated.

“Again, candidates are advised not to patronise any centre, office or shop for any service; please visit our offices in all the 36 states of the Federation and FCT for any complaint, enquiry or assistance.

“This is also because our attention has also been drawn to an illegal centre being operated near our Ikoyi Office in Lagos with the aim of defrauding innocent candidates.

“This centre collects all kinds of fees in cash for services that are even free. The general public should note that payments for any of our services are done via our TSA account with CBN and not cash.

“Anybody or group of persons requesting for cash from you is not from us,” the statement read.
PoliticsIncra Berates Governor Wike Over His Appointment Of Harold Koko As Ssa, Protocol by Emmyloaded(op):
The Inter Ethnic Network for Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, (INCRA), upbraids Governor Nyesom Wike over his appointment of Mr. Harold Augustus Koko as Senior Special Assistant on Protocol to the Governor.

This is coming 24hours after INCRA accused Governor Wike of running a cabal comprising of few old professional politicians who feed fat on the State resources at the expense of the ordinary people. Only those within this cabal are considered for empowerment.

Mr. Harold, before his new appointment has served as Nigeria's Ambassador to Serbia between June 2012 and January 2016 and Minister/Head of Chancery/Administration and Political and Bilateral Desks, Embassy of Nigeria, Spain, between 2009 and 2012.

INCRA is appalled that Wike did not find any of the numerous youths who worked tirelessly for him during the 2015 general elections worthy of this appointment. Perchance, this is because Wike deals only with youths who are only useful to him as political thugs and cultists and do not have the requisite academic qualifications to man such position.

Wike has repeatedly demonstrated his aversion for the youths by failing to build capacity and engage them meaningfully, in so doing, he has inadvertently failed to invest in the future of Rivers State.

For Wike, the Youths are only suitable for prosecuting his elections as political thugs, menial revenue driving agents and taskforce for harassing poor traders in the streets. When it comes to meaningful and helpful engagements, he looks the other way. This explains why he recalled hundreds of Rivers Youths on foreign scholarship in their final year of study sponsored his predecessor, Chibuike Amaechi.

Obviously, Wike has learnt nothing from his former boss, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who surrounded himself with youthful aides and appointees when he was governor. At a youthful age, well below 40, Wike was appointed Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House by Chibuike Amaechi.

INCRA admonishes all Rivers youths to stand up and fight for their destiny and that of the State by working hard to ensure that the present Wike-led anti-youth government is booted out of the Brick House in 2019 and a youth friendly government installed.

Jobs/VacanciesNigerian Govt To Prosecute Escapee N-power Volunteers In 2017 by Emmyloaded(op): 5:54am On May 25, 2017
The Federal Government says it will prosecute N-Power volunteers who are receiving monthly stipends but refuse to appear at their primary places of assignment.

Afolabi Imoukhuede, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation (N-Power Scheme), disclosed this at a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) forum.

He said the government had discovered 17 N-power volunteers who had been receiving salary since December but who had refused to go to their primary places of assignment.

“This issue of them not going to work is exception that we are not going to take chances.

“We are going to really blow that exception so that it becomes a deterrent.

“Because in the school where I identified them, their dutiful colleagues, the volunteers who are the true Ambassadors of N-power, are there and they know these people.

“So now if we don’t investigate and prosecute them they now get de-motivated.

“They must remain motivated to continue to work regardless of what season it is; rainy season, dry seasons or what have you.’’

He said another five volunteers who were also discovered to be collecting unbroken stipends since December had stopped going to their primary places of assignment.

He said the discovery of non-performing N-power volunteers was due to the collaboration between the Federal Government and all the state governments through a monitoring framework put in place.

However, he said that the scheme was an overwhelming success in terms of attendance as some volunteers showed passion on their jobs in spite of other challenges.

He disclosed that his teams always organised interactive sessions in every state visited to deliver President Buhari’s message that “this is pay-for-work-done” which was a lifeline extended to them.

Jobs/VacanciesFG Set To Begin N-power Non-graduates Scheme Component Of The N-power Programme by Emmyloaded(op):
The Presidency says the Federal Government will begin the non-graduates scheme component of the N-Power programme in July.

Afolabi Imoukhuede, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation (N-Power Scheme), disclosed this at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja.

He said N-Power had two broad components, namely: graduate and non-graduate schemes.

“We are hopeful that by June/July we should deploy those ones in different batches across the country and FCT.

“So it is worthy of note that those who applied for that programme (non-graduates) should just stay rested.

“The fact that we have not deployed you doesn’t mean that we have forgotten you.
“We have all your details, we have all your contacts and we will deal with them.’’

Mr. Imoukhuede explained that the non-graduate component of the programme was designed to empower the beneficiaries with vocational skills.
“The non-graduate component is more of skills development and vocation programme.
“For vocational training, we have construction work, automobile technicians, technology, which is hardware and software.

“They will come in for a programme and three months they will go and (also do) apprenticeship for nine months.
“It is like one year engagement for them; while they are undergoing training they will get some stipends and they we will also provide them with necessary tools and consumables.”

Mr. Imoukhuede added that the scheme would also partner with employers for the apprenticeship programme and also give the volunteers some stipends.
According to him, that type of programme will not only be empowering the trainees, but transferring skills to them for life as well.

The presidential aide said the office had been working with relevant stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of the scheme.
“We have been working behind the scene; we have signed MoU with our partners, Automotive Development Council of Nigeria, for the automotive training.

“We have got quite some big partners and we are just finalising all our arrangements. ‘’
He said while the process of procurement of the needed goods and consumables were going on in the office, the fast-track process was also going on in the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as well.

According to him, N- power is the job creation component of the Social Investment Programme (SIP) of the current administration.

He said the office started working on the implementation as soon as the present administration was inaugurated on May 29, 2015.
He said by December 2015, the administration had come up with a blueprint on how to keep the promise it made to implement the scheme.

Mr. Imoukhuede described SIP as the most ambitious programme of the Federal Government, adding that so far, government had committed N500 billion to the programme.
“The programme received N500 billion in 2016, but unfortunately, it came at the time when the economy was grappling with low revenue,’’ he said.

NAN reports that the social investment programme has five components.
They include the N-Power, being the job creation component; Home Grown School Feeding; the Conditional Cash Transfer; and the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP).
The last component is the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Junior. (NAN)
