Later, some liars will come here to defend the Government and say we don't have money to build mega power plants and distributing stations. What is Jonathan going to do about this report? Will he order the arrest of the culprits or will he just brush aside the reports. This is why white people say black people can't govern properly.50 years of rot and it is still continuing as our leaders keep looting because we allow them.

ultraGM: Pakistan thinks that; Since Nigeria is a Kid to US we can be afraid of Threaten (N-Korea did).
But if that Happen, Nigeria Will have to Sponsor Drone War in Pakistan to Secure the life of it citizen their and the Embassy (if any). But What they should be aware of is that: Diplomacy at this Age should be considered first and that will aid global economy.

My own appeal is that they should think twice before that try that Action cause, More drone will be flying low on Pakistan Soil and they can't even support BH either to fight Nigeria.
Please do not speak about what you have absolutely no clue about.Do you think the Nigerian Military can fight Pakistani Military? Oh boy no try am! USA which is a world power will not even dare take on Pakistan talk less of any African country.Do you even know that Pakistan is a Nuclear Powerhuh

IBB maybe able to afford a house like this but he is too "razz" and "local" to have the kind of of taste well educated men like mugabe have.He probably designed his minna house like a mosque just like many of his northern peers do and just like he designed ASO ROCK.

PoliticsRe: The Niger Delta Is An Ecological Disaster Of Incredible Proportions by EmperorOlu: 9:52am On Apr 07, 2010
Frosbel, for a change i agree with you. I created a thread like this a while back where i highlighted the same issues.

In my thread i suggested that the FGN should close down all in-land pipelines and oils rigs and only drill oil offshore. According to NNPC stats 70% of Nigeria’s oil is offshore. I recommended that the FGN should issues close down all inland pipe lines and bar people from drilling oil on land. Instead licenses should be issued to as many companies as possible to drill offshore.

While this is being done, a clean up company should be hired to come and clean up the Niger delta area. The clean up could last up to 5 years before it is completed. Once the clean up is completed, the Niger delta could be turned into a tourist attraction like the Brazilian Amazon forest. Some parts of the Niger delta can be converted into to world class water front residential estates like the ones in Florida.

I have attached a picture to illustrate my vision for the Niger delta. This will create employment in the construction sector for indigenes of the Niger Delta and it will attract foreign investment. The Niger delta area is a very good candidate for a tourist city that could spot expensive golf estates, 7 star hotels and marine villages.

Jonathan unfortunately does not have that kind of vision ,he is only concerned about 2011.That is why i get taken aback when I see some ND folks on this forum supporting him blindly even though he has done absolutely nothing to change their lives since he became the acting president.

He is busy trying to please the militants, if I were in his shoes, i won’t be bothered about the militants, i will focus my attention on the youths of ND who are unemployed. The militants are greedy themselves so they do not care about the people of the ND.

If I were the president, my first order will be to shut down all those inland pipelines and start a clean up exercise. I will also send in marine biologists to access the ND, give me a status report on how far the damage is and make recommendations on what can be done to restore the indigenous marine life there.

The only thing that moves a nation forward is great ideas and discipline. I have both but unfortunately Jonathan does not.

i think the war on corruption was biased during the obasanjo regime.if you look at the current events happening in the polity, you will agree with me.ibori was the sole financier of yaradua campaign,so it is expected of him to be victimized.towards the end of 2006,ribadu made a stunning revelation before the senate where he said that 27 governors are corrupt.that was prior to the third term palaver, which was a strategy used by obj to coerce the governors into talking their senators into convincing supporting the third term.at the end of the day, ribadu refuted his allegation and said only seven of them are corrupt which included alams, dariye, fayose, lucky and a few others that were never prosecuted despite being investigated.nigeria politicians are very cunning and i hope efcc will be objective in his fight against corruption.they should als probe ACTING FIRST LADY PATIENCE JONATHAN if it is really fighting a genuine anti-corruption war

PoliticsRe: Breaking News - Ibori's Investigator Attacked By Gunmen by EmperorOlu: 9:08am On Apr 07, 2010
What i fail to understand is how an organization like EFCC has no armed section. The EFCC men should be trained in armed combat and provided with bullet proof vest e.t.c

In countries like South Africa ,their version of the EFCC which is simply know as "The Hawks" are equipped to the teeth with the best assault weapons money can buy ,bullet proof turbo charged vehicles/ Superbikes for high speed pursuit and various other top notch equipments.

I once saw a video of an EFCC office on youtube and i felt very sad. The office looked like a crack house, it was filthy and there were files all over the place.

Why is it that in Nigeria ,we just can't do things the right way ? Why ? Are we just cursed or what ?

Not only in South Africa, when i visited Angola recently I was shocked to see how developed the country had become. The last time i was in Angola was July 2009 but when i went there last week, i can not lie, i was so jealous. These guys are developing at the speed of light. The roads are tarred, there are new residential estates, new golf estates, new shopping malls,24 hr electricity. I mean for a second i thought i was in Australia.

And you know this country does not produce as much oil as we do but the capital is already more beautiful and far far far far far cleaner than Lagos. The police are well equipped ,the streets are swept on time ,there is absolutely no litter. The president is really committed to changing the lives of his people. Even their internet speed is on par with South Africa. Another thing i noticed is that they have changed their immigration laws and visa requirements; it is very difficult now to get a visa to Angola. From what i gather many Nigerians are now being rejected visas. Luckily for me ,i have been going there since 2006 so i won’t have any problems. I was even contemplating moving to Angola but decided against it because of the language barrier, especially for my kids.

Countries here in the South of Africa are the lucky ones because they have sensible leaders who care about the image of their country. Even though Congo is still fighting a proxy war against the USA, their major cities is bustling with foreign investments, skyscrapers ,residential estates e.t.c The same goes for Mozambique ,a few years ago Mozambique’s currency (metical) had no value but the president hired the best hands to manage the economy and now the Metical is stronger than the Naira.

Mozambique used to be a very dirty country but all that has changed now ,the cities have been cleaned and the air is fresh. If these countries that went through decades of civil war can turn around and change their environment in a matter of two years ,why can't we in Nigeria do the same?

Many of our politicians go to these Southern African countries and invest their monies there but they refuse to fix Nigeria. Obasanjo owns 1 skyscraper in South Africa and several other luxurious properties but the naughty person cannot fix anything in Nigeria.

Certainly I am on a high of knowledge transfer to you conspiracy theorists.  grin

You seem to be interlocked in bitterness for the white man and the west in general for some event that occurred eons ago with regard to colonialism.

Do you not understand that our main issue in recent times is the utter greed and compassionless wickedness of our so called leaders?

Where does the white man come into the picture to prevent?

- Basic infrastructure for Nigeria
- Constant electricity and water
-       Reasonable employment for the multitudes of jobless graduates out there
-       Sustainable development in rural areas of the country
- Good roads
- Cheap and affordable food items
- Affordable housing

It’s all the white man's fault that the government cannot meet these basic measures of development. Or is it ?

Of course the West connives with our leaders to loot our wealth, its common knowledge. But the fact is that our leaders allow them and even then we still generate substantial amounts of revenue to develop our country.

For example between 1999 and 2009 NNPC earned revenue of $200 billion with nothing to show for it.

Tell me, is it the white man's fault, lol.

Oh please give me a break.
I believe you have answered your question yourself, read your comments again.

If the West wanted africa to develop ,they can allow it but they don't.That is why the USA is planning to back babangida for the next election. The mere fact they install and dispose african leaders as they wish is enough to show you that they do not want us to develop.Zimbabwe was crippled by their sanctions just because mugabe chased the whites out.

Onlytruth:
Thanks to all the unbiased commentators: EmperorOlu, UcheUwadi_, tensor777 and ziga.

Your points are well taken. I however think that we should not wait until all the crooked politicians are killed before we can have state and local police system in place. We may never even be able to kill off those guys. We need something now.

All it needs is a federal law or constitutional amendment specifically outlining the operational areas or boundaries of different police formations to be set up -the local police on the one hand, and the federal police on the other hand. Of course the federal police should always be better armed and better equipped. This would enable them step in to take over a situation and make necessary arrests in times of abuse as you fear.

No city or county police in the US can withstand the FBI for instance. Therefore the check would be there. We cannot throw away the baby with the bath water. There will always be governors, local govt chairmen who would be tempted to abuse their power, but they risk being arrested by the federal police and removed from office. The federal police will have a lot of firepower to step in whenever necessary.

I really think that this fear is unfounded because we have always had the Hisbah, Vigilante services in the east and LASTMA in Lagos. All that is needed is better training, better recruitment and better equipment for them. These bodies will sweep our streets and neighborhoods of criminals enabling all to walk around any time of the day or night.

Again we need to build more prisons and jails to contain the upsurge in arrests.

There is no amount of single federal police that can accomplish this task. Nigeria is unique and needs a combination of tactics. To reduce the task of policing 150 million west Africans to a single police formation is day dreaming. It can never contain the situation.
You have a strong point there but i don't really think firepower is the only answer. Dignity ,Respect ,Honour and the will to serve one’s country should be the answer. I think these men should undergo psychological training they will be "brainwashed to keep the rule of law.

I read somewhere that this is the method used by the Israeli Mossad, CIA, US Army ,Iranian special forces and Libya Guards to train their officials. Nigeria is a country suffering from severe moral decadence so i think we need to employ service psychologists who will “brainwash” the new recruits to be honest and keep order at all times. I know it sounds weird but if we really want this to work, we can’t afford to take half measures.

As for prisons, i will prefer that rapists, armed robbers and murderers be executed without any option of jail terms. Prison does not rehabilitate violent criminals; it just makes them worse besides our population is too much so why the tax payer’s money should be used to feed serial killers in Jail?

ROSSIKE:
Cap28 and EmperorOlu, you guys are killing me with knowledge here. Cap28, do you know I didn't even realise the China/US connection to the Jonathan debacle?

Could it be that Yar'adua was poisoned by the Mossad (who run Aso Rock), after what was seen as his undue recourse to China?

I know for sure the US has been manouvering in places like Sudan and the Congo to curtail Chinese contracts. And Yar'adua was also about to pass the Petroleum Industry Reform bill, that would have decreed more favourable terms, and opened up oil fields to indigenous and Chinese companies, breaking the stranglehold of Elf, Shell, Total and co, whose deals with us are notoriously exploitative and unfair, wth the former offering far more favourable terms to Nigerians.

I wonder if that bill, which was on its way to the National Assembly when Yar'adua was in office, will now be swept under the carpet, with Jonathan at the helm.

My guess is , yes it will.

Until Nigerians begin to see these linkages, like the Venezuelans, the Chinese, the Libyans, and the Iranians, they will NEVER get the deal.

We are still at the stage where we regard the US and co as our ''friends and allies''.

I don't think it's anything to do with IQ to be honest. Africans are highly intelligent. We invented writing, architecture, medicine, and astronomy.

The oldest mines in the world, dated over 25,000 years old, are found in Swaziland, not in London or America.

The oldest written scripts are found in Ethiopia, not in Paris or Berilin.

The west are newcomers to civilization.

Their modern propaganda machine is very effective and permeates our recent history of colonialism, our current educational systems and the local and foreign media.

So it's really not surprising that many modern Nigerians cannot see beyond the ''black is bad and white is blameless'' stereotype and mindset.

It's what they've been fed all their lives.

This will change however. As the years of colonialism recede, we will begin to reconnect with ourselves and heritage.

Eventually it will affect the leadership.

Quick anecdotal example: 20 years ago Nigerians played western music at clubs and parties, and watched Hollywood output as if  their fathers made them.

Today, it's different. Home grown is regarded as better.

The recent Anambra elections, generally regarded as the freeest and fairest since the annulled Abiola vote.

Prior to the vote, the various contestants and 'stakeholders' gathered at the king's palace, and swore a  traditional oath to the effect that there would be no rigging, no falsification of ballots, no intimidation of voters etc etc.

The result -  a near perfect election.

Every one of the parties to the agreement had an inborn faith in, and respect for the traditional instruments of ethics and morality.

As the years of colonial interruption recede into history, we will start to see the African Renaissance, powered by a revival of grassroots based ethical systems that will weed out the current neo-colonial  impostors.
^^^^ I mentioned this thing about Mossad running Aso Rock one day on NL and people started raining curses on me.

The Nigerians of today are cowards ,have you forgotten FELA's song where he said : Police man go slap your face ,you go dey look like donkey

Those people who love the US government are those people who went to the USA for the first time by winning the US visa lottery, they are not like us who have been going to the USA for holidays since the age of 13.Most of the people here have "paki" mentality ,dey no be aje butter like us that is why USA dey shack them. To them USA is heaven, i wonder what they will feel if they visited the gold coast in Australia. Personally i think USA and Britain are overrated. Some Nigerians will sell their relatives just to get a 3 day visa to the USA  grin .Funny thing is that there are many Nigerians living the USA and struggling to pay their rent but when they call their relatives in Nigeria ,they will start speaking through their nose like they already own a skyscraper.

PoliticsRe: State Police To Be Or Not? by EmperorOlu: 10:20pm On Apr 03, 2010
While the idea of  State police is not a bad one,it is a bad idea in a country like Nigeria as long as the same cabals remain in power.

If the current office holders can use the Nigerian police to intimidate and kill ordinary citizens, what do you think corrupt state Governors and corrupt local govt chairmen will do if they have their own local police.

Trust me,except corrupt leaders are eliminated ,these state police will just become a killing tool for the Governors and the Local government chairmen.

There are many advanced countries that only have a federal police but they manage their country well. What our police needs is a reform. Government should put gradutes in the police service instead of uneducated people who are supposed to be working on farm somewhere in Umahia. The Nigerian police sees themselves as a FORCE hence the name Nigerian Police Force .This mentality is bad because in all other developed countries the Police is seen as a Service, it should be the Nigerian Police Service. They should not be grouped as part of the armed forces, they should be seen as part of the community.

Another problem is the lack of  proper training and specialization. In a country like South Africa where I live, they have the federal police which is referred to as the South African Police Service and they have state police (there are referred to as provincial police, because SA has provinces not states)

The Federal police (SAPS) handles criminal cases while the provincial police handles traffic and environment cases. In the federal police they have special units which focus on special kinds of crime e.g

despoil Squad
Robbery Squad
Burglary Squad
Hostage Unit (Negotiators e.t.c)
Armed Response squad
Patrol squad
Civil Squad
Fraud Squad
Homicide Squad
Cyber crime squad
Marine Squad
Sting squad
Special Tactics Unit (equivalent of US S.W.A.T)
Under cover squad
Bomb squad
Forensic Unit
Anti -Narcotics Unit
Airborne Unit
Surveillance Unit
Fugitive Recovery squad
Riot Squad
Tracker Unit
K-9 Squad (dog and handler)
Prostitution Squad
Human Trafficking Unit
Anti –Terrorism Squad

The list is very long but that is all i can recall for now. Nigeria probably does not have half of these units or squad. We need a leader who knows how to think deep before we can attempt to have a state police. Jonathan and his governors are too s.t.u.p.i.d and power hungry to be able to manage state police officers.

cap28:
if only it were that simple, in a utopian world yes i would agree that we are all masters of our own destiny, but unfortunately we dont live in  a utopian paradise where every man looks out for his fellow man - this is a dog eat dog world, its a world where cunning, treachery, skullduggery and wickedness are rife and where honest innocent people die for no just cause.

I have never said that the white man or chinese man is superior to us, but what i have said is that they have an agenda towards us which is not beneficial to the well being of our people, the chinese are actually a more humane in their dealings with africa because all they seem to want is to trade peacefully with us  the british and the americans on the other hand have imperialist ambitions and it doesnt matter how well meaning and confident we are as a race it will not help us, what will help us is military might combined with sound economic policies and good leadership, but this combination is not easy to acheive especially in a country as complex and diverse as nigeria, if we are fortunate to bring forth a good leader and beef up our military to prevent invasion from the americans, british or any other superpower then we are halfway there - this is what chavez has done

You say that Shell cannot stand in the way of a responsible govt who defies the west and puts its people first, you are grossly underestimating the power of multinational organisations -

if what you say is true  - why have there been numerous assassination attempts by the americans on Chavez's life following his nationalisation of Venezuela's oil industry?

also can you explain to me why mossadegh of Iran was overthrown by the british and americans after he nationalised the Anglo Iran oil company (now known as BP) which was formerly run and owned in its entirety by the british govt.

how about the assassination of patrice lumumba of congo by the americans and the belgians following his rise to power and his promise to use the mineral wealth of congo for his people and not for the belgian and american multinational companies - are you aware that he was murdered by a belgian and american firing squad, his body dumped in the boot of a car and eventually burnt with acid in order to remove all traces of evidence implicating the americans/belgians?

how about the overthrow of Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana in 1966 by the americans following his meteoric rise to power and his declaration to halt the economic exploitation of his people.

there are so many more examples in and outside africa.

you actually dont understand that western powers wage covert and overt  wars to oust "unfriendly" govts whose economic policies favour the indigenous people and adversely affect multinationals who are driven by profit and exploitation.

You talk about angola but again i ask you - who are the beneficiaries of the huge profits that this country is reaping from oil and gas contracts - the same ruling elite and not the average angolan on the street,

On paper, Angola is described as a middle-income country but 70 percent of its population live below the poverty line with life expectancy at  just 41.7 years.   there is a huge  disparity between those who have benefited from the boom, and the majority living on the land that have not, average annual income in Luanda last year was  just $201.

The capital has huge housing shortages and yet almost all of the construction being carried out is geared towards housing foreign visitors and the new ruling class.

There are ongoing constructions of hotels along with marinas, golf courses and luxury flats - but again these are not intended for ordinary angolans but foreign investors.

On a more serious note,70% of Nigerians have an IQ below 70 so don't expect them to reason with you even though what you are saying is the truth. Many of the people on Nairaland worship the west because they were born in to a poor family and the first they tasted French fries and ice cream was when they went abroad.

But people like you and i don't care about such things because we know that the west is the problem of Nigeria and Africa, as long as there is chaos in Nigeria, the USA will have easy access to our mineral resources.

Just this week the USA Government ordered the Nigerian government to stop construction of a road that will pass by it's embassy staff's residence in Abuja and acting puppet Jonathan obliged. That is after they labelled us as terrorist ,yet we still bow to them and jump when they cough. Do you think acting mumu Jonathan can ask the US government to divert a road that will pass by the residence of Nigerian embassy staff in New York?

I am sure the next order the USA will give will be to ask mumu Jonathan to come and sweep the US embassy in Abuja every morning before he goes to work. We need a leader like Hugo Chavez who will come and delete all these cabals once and for all. I have got the heart to do it but with 70% of Nigerians having an IQ below 70 ,it won't be an easy task.

Alternatively , a remote controlled bomb could have been planted under the pedestrian over head bridge and detonated remotely when his ambulance passed under the bridge. This kind of bomb is sometimes referred to as an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) . They can be detonated via a cellphone depending on how it was configured to detonate.

Yara-crook is a lucky guy (that is if he was really in the ambulance). He is lucky that no one had proper intel on his itinerary.

He is very very lucky that Nigerians are too "chicken" to seek for change otherwise his ambulance could have been blown to bits with an RPG.

From what i see in these pics he was a sitting duck not even a thousand escort vehicles could have saved him if his ambulance was attacked.

There are many vantage points along the road he was driven through where a well trained sniper could have hit his vehicle with an RPG or an assault grenade launcher equipped with electronic scope.

Needless to say ,one would to need hire a professional sniper who is highly skilled in evasion tactics or a suicide sniper who is ready to die to undertake such a task.

Onlytruth:
This guy is making all the right noise these days -true federalism, state police, etc. Hmm, he may get my vote in 2011; afterall he cannot be worse than OBJ. undecided can he?
Another thing about him is that he is swayed by public opinion. That has to count for something.
I think you are suffering from a case of "peppersoup overdose" .IBB will not rule except he has a death wish. He is no longer as protected as he used to be ,he could have easily been shot at the airport. Many people have not forgotten the mess he put Nigeria in. IBB you have been warned, consultation or not ,you will die if you attempt what you are trying to attempt and not even the C.I.A will be able to save you. kapish?
