If you were old enough in the 90s to recognize series of events back then you should seen so many christian activities all over nigeria mainly SW, SE, SS. This agenda was supported by clergymen and political leadership (christians). They "captured" or "dominated" southwest with their propaganda at height of new democratic govt. In their manifesto (published by Christian Association Of Nigeria) they called for death of muslim leaders in Nigeria and around the world. So Northern state quickly adopted Sharia Law started by the then governor of Zamfara state Ahmed Sani Yerima. Despite having many muslims leaders in govt in the 90s like IBB, Abacha, Abubakr etc, none of them had any agenda against christianity. Why would christians publish a book filled with so much hate speeches?. By year 2000 they quickly removed the book from the public knowing that it could have legal consequences but it was too late. So it was around 1999, 2000 that Nigeria had a new democratic elected president Obasanjo that Abuja central church was built by state money. Obasanjo tasked all Nigeria states 100 million naira to build central church you see in Abuja today. Only two state refused. Lagos (Tinubu) and Abia (Orji Uzor Kalu). They claimed they were not christians. But all Northern sharia states contributed money towards church fundings. If constitution does not recognize religion how dare Obasanjo built or completed Church at the expense of Nigerian treasury?. But Abuja national mosque was built by donations.

I repeat, Nigeria is not a secular country. It is secular country only on paper not practical. So stop saying Sharia law contradicts federal law. Sharia Law serves as customary law parallel to common law. State of Florida passed "Stand Your Ground Law" which is euphemism of jungle justice. But it is also in conflict with federal law. Isnt?. I shun any thing illegal and work legit, But there is a secret i have never shared with a soul till this day. I cant explain it but i recall as a child the first time i heard the muslim call to prayer, it shook ,e to my cire. i mean goose bumps rose on my skin and i felt like not leaving the vicinity. I was around 8 years old- As a child i couldnt label these emotions but as an adult now i am certain of them. Then i remember when i was a teenager around 16 i had a vidi dream clear as day . i saw myself in a valley, in a large expanse of land i was on a hill leading thousands oof muslims in prayer.. due to what i was being told that islam is a wrong religion this dream worried me deeply. The next morning i confided in my mum when we returned from church that sunday.
I told her my dream and she started telling me that before i was born when she was about 6 months pregnant with me she had a similar dream.

She said she saw a tall man wearing jalamia muslim gown for men standing before her and she felt at peace. So my mom told me not to worry and just be prayerful and go to church more.

To be honest i have this irresistible pull towards islam, all my life. Infact i used to secretly have muslim prayers and songs on my Ipod when i was in unilag back then.

If i wasnt born a christian in a pure christian family i would have loved to be a muslim.To be frank i want to convert but i am terrified what my family and friends would say. I would loose so much if i did this.. But my heart is not in church anymore..

I am totally satisfied with christianity and the materialism, the non living feel of the whole thing. I have sat down and confided in a friend who told me all sorts of terrible things about the Prophet Mohammed, but still. What nonsense validity, was there anything like sharia in the constitution before 1999? Laws only exist when people elect people to create and uphold them, in this case this barbaric and idiotic law is contradicting the constitution and should be scrapped. Are also aware of the concept of jury nullification where a citizen is found to have been guilty yet set free because the law they broke was seen as unjust?

If is it too harsh it doesn't mean the guy will be executed. Honestly, this is a very educated thread. Perhaps you guys should have learned from me a little. I am not a lawyer nor a law student but I discovered many of you people that commented are unintelligent or unaware of how law works. I tried to explain several times but you guys are blinded by hatred. Sorry if the way i sound offends you. I will try to explain how it works one more time.

What you guys witness with respect to blasphemy law in Kano is the same process worldwide. I will use US law as a case study. It is normal for a law to state if someone commits xyz crime, it is in the constitution where it says section xyz is punishable offence by death penalty, 20yrs, 40, 50yrs in prison etc. But it doesnt mean if the person is found guilty he would get actual penalty mentioned in the constitution.

So let me give you example. In US if someone commits 1st degree murder it attracts death sentence. But then they review mental status of the person. If found to be mentally unstable he gets 45 to life in prison which means there is possibility he will get out of prison on probation in some years to come. If he doesn't have mental problem it is death sentence or 30 yrs in prison.

Now, remember there is trial which takes months or years while accused is remanded in prison. After trial, let's say his lawyer really tried a lot, lawyer can get him 15 yrs at sentencing. Final sentence may come 2yrs after initial trial. By the time he is sentenced, judge and jury will deduct time served from his 15 yrs sentence and he has 13 left. Same thing is true of death sentence. If a person is sentenced to death at final trial, he is not killed right away. It takes 20 yrs before actual execution takes place. Within that 20yrs his lawyer will continue to file appeals.. There will be trials and mistrials and finally at final trial he may either be sentenced to death or life in prison. So there is enough time for legal process. It is not about yelling on the internet that solves the problem. It is by working with defence lawyers, govt lawyers, activists and so on. This is the way to help the guy. But many of our NL comments are trying to ridicule the law. That's not gonna work.

Let me give you one more example. In New York around 2013-2015, a guy from india commited a crime. Guess what his crime was?. His crime was something you people in Nigeria easily take for granted and it cost him 10 yrs in prison plus he would lose his green card and get deported after serving prison. This is the law according to constitution . Let me elaborate. According to US constitution, a US citizen that commits crime goes to prison. After serving time he is released and back to community. illegal alien who commits crime serves his time and gets deported. It is crime anyway for being in the country illegally in the first place. Lastly, this is where i am going. Someone who is in USA legally but he is a green card holder or permanent resident, if he commits a crime that attracts 10 yrs or more he will serve 10yrs or more. After he is released, his green card will be revoked and he will be deported. This is the law. But at the same time, govt does bend the rule especially if the accuse shows compassion and feels guilty about his crime. But bottom line is according to the constitution. Anything else is not guaranteed.

So this Indian guy was a green card holder and his crime was simply his words that cost him 10yrs in prison. This is a warning to all of you that condemned blasphemy law. To blaspheme means you say something ungodly in violation of the law. Not that you kill or touch someone. It is just your words. So this indian guy said something to his autistic friend that led to his friend to hang himself. It is just normal jokes btw friends. That was it. He didnt know it is against the law. Now i don't think you have a law like that in nigeria. You people say anything to anyone at anytime without consequences of your words. Anyways, the guy was investigated, arrested, tried in court and was sentenced to 10yrs in prison. He is permanent resident in America. At sentencing, his mother was there. She cried her eyes out. She sought help from activists, legal practitioners, some lawmakers and fellow americans to help her. She didnt go on the internet to talk down the law which many of you guys are doing. How does this help the guy in Kano?. . This woman knows what her son would lose, The guy would serve 10yrs. After 10yrs, he gets to have his green card revoked and then deported. You know how painful this is?.

Many people rallied around her. They called on officials to help her. She actually slapped her son in public while he was handcuffed. She didnt condemn the law was too harsh. She recognized the law is the law. What she needed was to humble herself to get help for her son. So at sentencing, of course many pleads went underground from lawmakers and political activists and when jury got to court, he was sentenced to 15 months. By the time they minus time he was already locked up during trial, he only had a month plus to be free. You see what am talking about?.

So right there in court he was told that if jury had pronounced 10yr jail for him he is finished. So you see what I am talking about now?. This is the same in Kano. The guy was on trial for at least 2 yrs since I heard about his case which means Kano followed legal process. But you citizens on NL are complicating everything by condemning the law. You will just provoke governor to sign death warrant like that. So it doesn't work the way many of you are going about it. It works by appealing the case and getting political figures to plead to the authority. You can not be cursing governor, police, court and lawyers or the law. This is very disrespectful and it doesn't help anyone. Some Igbo people even drew caricature of Kano governor. This was not necessary at all. This is provocation. So death sentence doesn't mean he will be executed. Death sentence is last option. You can't argue with law except through legal process. But many misunderstood me that I wanted the guy dead. What kind of stupidity is that?.So the way to help the guy is follow his appeal. Many of you should respectfully write Kano governor, govt lawyers and garner political support to plead to the governor. This is how it works.

So you have not received sense in everything i said?. Who talks about killing?. I have been talking about validity of the law. I am really disappointed in many of you nigerians. I thought they said you guys are educated?. Many of you that commented on this topic are very unintelligent.
