21:24. And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honour into it.

21:27. But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.

*MESSAGE:*

Power failure or inconsistent electricity supply has become a normal occurrence in Nigeria today. Sometimes, electricity distribution companies extort and exploit the consumers by giving them false and high bills, leading to the disconnection of power when they fail to pay. On the contrary, the holy Jerusalem will not have a need of the sun, moon, stars or even electricity because the glory of God will give light to the city, and Jesus Christ is its eternal light. Because there will be always light in that city, darkness as well as sin will not exist there.

However, not everyone will enter the Holy City - the New Jerusalem. Idolaters, adulterers, fornicators, liars, the wicked, envious, jealous, thieves, cowards, cheats, fraudsters, the occult and those who do abominable things and reject Jesus here on earth, will not be allowed into this holy city. Your marital status, wealth, education, political affiliation, gender, tribe or race cannot give you entrance into the New Jerusalem. The qualification for entry is "only those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.” Is your name in the book of life; are you born again?

21:10. And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
21:11. Having the glory of God. Her light [was] like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal.
21:12. Also she had a great and high wall with twelve gates, and twelve angels at the gates, and names written on them, which are [the names] of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:

21:21. The twelve gates [were] twelve pearls: each gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city [was] pure gold, like transparent glass.

*MESSAGE:*

When you visit Harvard University Medical College, Boston, USA, you will notice the beauty of the buildings because the walls are overlaid with marble. However, this beauty cannot be compared with the beauty of heaven. Today's text, especially from verse 15 to the end of the chapter, is a beautiful description of the Holy City-the new Jerusalem, a place of perfect holiness and indescribable beauty. The foundation is garnished with all manner of precious stones like jasper, sapphire, chalcedony, emerald, sardonyx, sardius, chrysolite, beryl, topaz, chrysoprase, jacinth and amethyst. The New Jerusalem is a picture of God's future home for his people. Jesus assured us that there are many mansions in His Father's house and that He was going to prepare a place for us, after which He would come back and take us home.

If we truly know the beauty and comfort of heaven, and what it is taking our Lord Jesus Christ to prepare it, then we will prepare ourselves to enter this new Jerusalem where we shall live with God forever. Knowing that nothing defiled or unclean will enter the kingdom of God, therefore, we must get ourselves rid of such things as are capable of preventing us from entering and dwelling in this holy city. Beloved, are there weights and besetting sins in our lives? Amend your ways now and be ready to meet God in the New Jerusalem.

21:1. Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.
21:2. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
21:3. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God [is] with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them [and be] their God.
21:4. "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."
21:5. Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful."
21:6. And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.

THE MESSAGE:

Our passage today speaks of a new heaven and a new earth which the Lord will make, when the old heaven and old earth have passed away. We do not know how the new heaven will look like or where it will be located, but one thing is certain: God and his children - the people whose names are written in the Book of Life - will be together to live there forever. Will you be there with God?

The world is full of obstacles, persecutions, famine, epidemics and hatred. People who resolve to live righteous lives suffer persecution and the pressure to compromise. However, if you persist to the end and eventually unite with the Lord at last, God will wipe away tears from your eyes, and there will be no more death, sorrow, crying or pain. Suffering, hunger, diseases, barrenness and poverty will be gone forever. If you want to live forever with God, you must rid yourself of all dirt, impurity and all forms of uncleanness (1 John 3:2-3).

Those who fail to unite with the Lord - the cowards, unbelievers, abominable people, murderers, sexually-immoral, sorcerers, idolaters and all liars will be thrown into hell fire where they will burn forever. If you have not made peace with the Lord, do it quickly now and escape the wrath of God to come. When you do this, you will have the assurance of uniting with God forever.

PRAYER: Father, give me the courage to say 'No' to sin, and 'Yes' to righteousness, Amen!

20:7. Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison
20:8. and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number [is] as the sand of the sea.
20:9. They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.
20:10. The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet [are.] And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

THE MESSAGE:

Today's reading gives us assurance that one day, Satan's threats will cease forever, and peace will reign. After one thousand years of imprisonment, Satan will be released, and will gather countless rebels, sinners and leaders of this world (a great army) for battle against God's people and the city of Jerusalem. However, fire will come down from God out of heaven and consume the attacking army. There is no doubt that this event will come to pass. Christians are assured that God's word must come to fulfillment.

No matter the number of these rebels, the fire of God will consume them all at once! Christians do not need to worry on how this will happen; they should only know that this will certainly come to pass. The superiority of God cannot be questioned. Verse 10 gives us much relief- the devil will be thrown into a burning lake of fire to join the beast and false prophets; and they will be tormented days and nights forever. Satan's power and wickedness are not forever. He will meet his doom when he will be thrown into the lake of fire, and will never be a threat to anyone again - Hallelujah!

TOPIC: ASSURANCE OF ETERNAL LIFE
READ: 1 JOHN 5:13-15 (NKJV)

5:13. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may [continue to] believe in the name of the Son of God.
5:14. Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
5:15. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

THE MESSAGE:

The reason John wrote the gospel is to make Christians to continue to believe in Jesus Christ; and in believing, they might have eternal life (See John 20:31). Some persons are not sure if they will receive eternal life, but in today's reading, John says we can know for certain that we have eternal life. Our assurance is based on God's promise that He has given us eternal life through His Son (John 3:16). Eternal life is not based on feelings or speculations, but on facts. You can know that you have eternal life if you believe God's truth and in His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Verse 14 of today's text emphasizes God's will and not our will or desire.

God's will is the key to answered prayers. When we pray, we should not demand what we want, but should ask in accordance with what God wants for us. God knows what is good for us more than we do. His thought about us is a thought of good, and not of evil. He wants to bring us to an expected end. We should therefore not decree or demand things from God according to our wants or desires; but should seek to know His will for us, and ask according to that will. If we align our prayers to God's will, He will hear us, and we can have definite answers.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, please let my will be lost in Your will. Speak to reassure me; speak and make me to listen; Amen.

20:4. And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then [I saw] the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received [his] mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
20:5. But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This [is] the first resurrection.
20:6. Blessed and holy [is] he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

THE MESSAGE:

Our text today is an account of the reign of the saints, for the same space of time that Satan is bound. Those who suffer with him shall reign with him in his kingdom (verse 4). This is called the First Resurrection, with which those who serve Christ and suffer for Him will be consoled. There are consequences and rewards for actions taken in life. Outside those who will reign with Christ for one thousand years, the rest of the dead will not live again until the thousand years are finished (verse 5). Can you see the main reason you should not gamble with your Christian faith? Those who have part in the First Resurrection are considered to be blessed and holy and over them the second death has no power (verse 6). They shall be called Priests of God and of Christ.

Pause and reflect over your life. You have the chance today to enroll yourself into the kingdom citizenship right by accepting Jesus as the Lord of your life. Don't ever make the mortal and permanent mistake of living outside Christ. It is better to leave the world you cannot keep and secure your eternity with Christ that you cannot afford to lose. There is no substitute for eternity so you must not sacrifice it for any reason. The pathway might be narrow but strive to enter.

PRAYER: Help me, dear Lord to live with eternity in view daily, Amen!
