*TEXT:* GENESIS 34: 25-31 *(NKJV)*

34:25. Now it came to pass on the third day, when they were in pain, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, each took his sword and came boldly upon the city and killed all the males.
34:26. And they killed Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah from Shechem's house, and went out.
34:27. The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and plundered the city, because their sister had been defiled.
34:28. They took their sheep, their oxen, and their donkeys, what [was] in the city and what [was] in the field,
34:29. and all their wealth. All their little ones and their wives they took captive; and they plundered even all that [was] in the houses.
34:30. Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, "You have troubled me by making me obnoxious among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites; and since I [am] few in number, they will gather themselves together against me and kill me. I shall be destroyed, my household and I."
34:31. But they said, "Should he treat our sister like a harlot?"

*MESSAGE:*

Dinah had been raped and abducted by Shechem and the men of the city being privy to the plot to take over Jacob's wealth, condoned it (vv. 25-29). What should Jacob do than to hold his peace and think deeply as an aged man? (v.5). Any attempt to take revenge would make me stink among the inhabitants of the land, and being few in number, they would gather against me and slay me, Jacob thought (v.30).But for Simeon and Levi, Shechem and all involved in this reproachable act could not go scot-free. They took revenge, and doubled the sins committed by Shechem. "Should he treat our sister as a harlot?" was the ground upon which they justified their cruel act, when reprimanded by their father.

God's word for us remains unshaken: “Vengeance is mine; I will repay,” says the Lord (Rom. 12: 19). We do not have any reason whatsoever to justify taking God's position on vengeance. Jacob at the verge of his dying, dissociated himself from this cruel act (Gen. 49: 5-7). But could his children have folded their hands and do nothing? No! You better arise and commit your grievances unto the righteous Judge (1 Pet. 2: 23). Hand the matter over to God in prayers!

✝️📜STUDY: The right prayer for everyone who desires to fulfil God's purpose for his or her life is the prayer contained in verse 133, "Direct my steps by your word, and let no iniquity have dominion over me." God's word is upright, righteous, very faithful, very pure, and delightful.We are shown the path to take in order to fulfil God's purpose for our lives by the means of God's word (Psa.139: 15-16). Our steps are ordered and established on the paths of life by means of His word. We are kept from the dominion of sin which would have caused us to wander and veer off the paths set before us, all by the means of His word. Therefore, to experience the living miracles or wonders of God's word, a correct heart disposition is requisite. For God's words are not on the surface, they must be approached with an open and meek heart before God can break open His word until revelation light shines out (v.130). How often do you read or study the word of God? Do you pray to God to guide you by His word? Start living by God's word today!

✝️📖TEXT: Genesis 33: 1-20(NKJV)
33:1. Now Jacob lifted his eyes and looked, and there, Esau was coming, and with him were four hundred men. So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel, and the two maidservants.
33:2. And he put the maidservants and their children in front, Leah and her children behind, and Rachel and Joseph last.
33:3. Then he crossed over before them and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
33:4. But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.
33:5. And he lifted his eyes and saw the women and children, and said, "Who [are] these with you?" So he said, "The children whom God has graciously given your servant."
33:6. Then the maidservants came near, they and their children, and bowed down.
33:7. And Leah also came near with her children, and they bowed down. Afterward Joseph and Rachel came near, and they bowed down.
33:8. Then Esau said, "What [do] you [mean by] all this company which I met?" And he said, "[These are] to find favor in the sight of my lord."
33:9. But Esau said, "I have enough, my brother; keep what you have for yourself."
33:10. And Jacob said, "No, please, if I have now found favor in your sight, then receive my present from my hand, inasmuch as I have seen your face as though I had seen the face of God, and you were pleased with me.
33:11. "Please, take my blessing that is brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough." So he urged him, and he took [it.]
33:12. Then Esau said, "Let us take our journey; let us go, and I will go before you."
33:13. But Jacob said to him, "My lord knows that the children [are] weak, and the flocks and herds which are nursing [are] with me. And if the men should drive them hard one day, all the flock will die.
33:14. "Please let my lord go on ahead before his servant. I will lead on slowly at a pace which the livestock that go before me, and the children, are able to endure, until I come to my lord in Seir."
33:15. And Esau said, "Now let me leave with you [some] of the people who [are] with me." But he said, "What need is there? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord."
33:16. So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir.
33:17. And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, built himself a house, and made booths for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
33:18. Then Jacob came safely to the city of Shechem, which [is] in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan Aram; and he pitched his tent before the city.
33:19. And he bought the parcel of land, where he had pitched his tent, from the children of Hamor, Shechem's father, for one hundred pieces of money.
33:20. Then he erected an altar there and called it El Elohe Israel.

✝️📜STUDY: Whatever motive Esau had for coming along with four hundred men to meet his brother, Jacob would have been influenced by God. If it was for vengeance as he had vowed in Genesis 27: 41, God changed his mind. If it was to honour his brother or to show off power, the humility displayed by Jacob in verse 3 satisfied his ego, and melted his heart that he ran to meet him completely broken (v.4). Esau had to take Jacob's present as a token and pledge of peace between them.God is calling us today unto reconciliation! It is a reconciliation that must begin between us and God (Gen. 32: 24-30). Paul says,“Be reconciled to God” (2 Cor. 5: 20), then to all other people we have offended in the past, who have bitter feeling of resentment towards us. Whether you are the offender or the offended, you must arise now, leaving your 'Padan Aram' in humility like Jacob, or like Esau, leave your 'Seir' and be reconciled to your brother or sister. Take a step of faith and be reconciled with your wife, husband, or a relationship gone sour. Do it today and receive God's peace in your heart.
