*TEXT:* PHILIPPIANS 3: 17-21 (NKJV)

3:17. Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern.
3:18. For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, [that they are] the enemies of the cross of Christ:
3:19. whose end [is] destruction, whose god [is their] belly, and [whose] glory [is] in their shame -- who set their mind on earthly things.
3:20. For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
3:21. who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

*MESSAGE:*

Yesterday, we read about what Paul's goals were. We discovered that Paul's goals were beyond his physical body or earthly materials. In continuation ofthat, Paul in today's textis admonishing the people to follow his example just like he followed the example of Jesus Christ (v.17,1 Cor.1 1: 1). What the people were to imitate was the Christian life of how Paul put into practice the principles of Christ in his own life. The message here is that those who are weak or are still babies in the faith should see those who are strong or mature in faith as role models. This does not make those who are strong superior to those who are weak or make them to have control over the weak. What Paul was saying is that the weak - who are considered babies in the faith-should observe the behaviour of the strong brethren as far as they are in line with the nature of Jesus Christ.

Beloved, there is nothing wrong in having a role model, but it is important to watch and prayerfully choose role models for yourself. Make sure that people you imitate are proclaiming the gospel genuinely and living by it. It will be so disastrous to imitate a man who preaches the gospel for personal gain or self-gorification. People whose selfish desires come first are not worthy to be emulated as they would end up leading their followers into eternal destruction. Be careful in choosing a role model, because it is not everyone who preaches the gospel that does so for the sake of heaven. Remember, Jesus said _“Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord; shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven"_ (Matt. 7: 21).

Help me O Lord, to always walk on the right path in Jesus' Name. _*Amen!*_

✝️ STUDY: Apostle Paul in today's lesson mentions what his goals were. These goals were: Knowing Christ, the power of His resurrection, the fellowship of His suffering and being like Him in His death (v.10). This is not because Paul was doubting or not certain about the reality of the Messianic nature of Jesus Christ, but an indication of humility, just like Jesus, to the point of death. That is why despite his spirituality, Paul did not consider himself as someone who had achieved his goal but one still struggling to achieve it (v.13). Brethren, regardless of what our achievement or success could be, knowing Christ, the power of His resurrection, the fellowship of His suffering and being like Him in His death, should be our goals, just like Apostle Paul. This knowledge goes beyond the physical experience to the spiritual knowledge of Jesus Christ that makes us to have a relationship with Him. So, whatever our goals as Christians, they should never be outside having the knowledge ofJesus Christ.

Paul, as an Apostle of Christ, was renowned among the Jews and had all qualifications in addition to achievements to boast about but he did not do so. He explained that whatever could have been profitable for him, he had counted as loss just because of Christ Jesus. In essence, Paul was saying to us that the gains he began to receive in Christ Jesus were better than what the world offered him. From Paul's arguments, we realise that his encounter with Jesus Christ tremendously changed his life and reasoning. No wonder the bible says “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, and the new has come (2 Cor. 5: 17).”

Unlike Paul, today we have people who profess to have surrendered their lives to Jesus and yet nothing has ever changed in their lives. We have also have people who pledge their total allegiance to God Almighty alone and later go back to worship mammon, forgetting that the scripture says we cannot serve two masters together (Matt.6: 24). What are the old things of life you need to do away with? The salvation you profess does not give room for sinful living. If you truly have received the salvation of Christ, you must exhibit Christian characters which will stand you out in this perverse generation. A Christian character entails a dedicated life to Jesus Christ alone; it means a revived life that shines as light in this darkness of this world.

*TEXT:* PHILIPPIANS 2: 25-30 (NKJV)

25. Yet I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, but your messenger and the one who ministered to my need;
26. since he was longing for you all, and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick.
27. For indeed he was sick almost unto death; but God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.
28. Therefore I sent him the more eagerly, that when you see him again you may rejoice, and I may be less sorrowful.
29. Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness, and hold such men in esteem;
30. Because for the work of Christ he came close to death, not regarding his life, to supply what was lacking in your service toward me.

*MESSAGE:*

Our reading today focuses on Paul's statement about Epaphroditus whom he calls a brother, companion in labour and fellow-soldier in Christ Jesus. Epaphroditus is seen as a useful instrument in the ministry of Apostle Paul and his commitment to minister to others could not be overlooked. He was willing to pay a visit to the Philippian church even with his state health. Paul spoke about Epaphroditus' willingness to see to the welfare of the brethren and to ensure progress as regards the expansion of gospel among the people. There are people today in the church and society who are sincerely committed to the welfare of God's people in all areas. All they ever want is the advancement of the gospel of Christ among all. They can go to any length to make the name of God known to the world; they can sacrifice anything for the sake of gospel!

Today, most of them are being discouraged by events around them. There are some people who stand as Sanballat and Tobiah, using all means to sabotage the efforts of these willing people. As Epaphroditus stood out in his generation, we must not allow anything to discourage us or our good intentions when it comes to the works of God. Nothing should weigh us down or stand as obstacles before us. We have been called and must labour selflessly in depopulating the kingdom of Satan. A selfless co-worker is sought for on a daily basis in the vineyard; the scripture says the harvest is much, and there is need for selfless workers. Will you be the selfless one?
