*THE DAILY DEVOTIONAL.* CHURCH OF NIGERIA _(ANGLICAN COMMUNION)_

*DATE:* SUNDAY, 19TH MAY, 2024 _*{Pentecost / Whit Sunday}*_ *THEME:* THE GREAT COMMISSION

*TEXT:* JOHN 20: 19-31 (NKJV)

20:19. Then, the same day at evening, being the first [day] of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace [be] with you."
20:20. When He had said this, He showed them [His] hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.
20:21. So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you."
20:22. And when He had said this, He breathed on [them,] and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.
20:23. "If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the [sins] of any, they are retained."
20:24. Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.
20:25. The other disciples therefore said to him, "We have seen the Lord." So he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe."
20:26. And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, "Peace to you!"
20:27. Then He said to Thomas, "Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand [here,] and put [it] into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing."
20:28. And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!"
20:29. Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed [are] those who have not seen and [yet] have believed."
20:30. And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book;
20:31. but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

*MESSAGE:*
We have an account of Jesus Christ's first appearance to the disciples on the day He rose. He had sent them the good tidings of His resurrection and to confirm their faith in Him, He came Himself and gave them the needed assurance they could ever desire so that they themselves would be eye-witnesses of His being alive because they must attest to the world and build the church upon this testimony. Jesus gave them a commission, thus: _“As the Father has sent Me, I am sending you”_ which implies that they were to go on with His work upon the earth and commit themselves for the spreading of the gospel and setting up of God's kingdom among men. He also sent them with divine a warrant and armed them with divine power, as ambassadors, to make peace and to proclaim it.

Today is *Whit Sunday.* It is a day that explains to us the fulfilment of the promise of God regarding the Holy Spirit. As disciples of God, we need to understand that the greatest assignment was given to us all the moment we received our salvation. We must at this point rise to take up this assignment. As children of God, we have been given the necessary power been equipped; it is left for us to speed up and obey the clarion call. We need to bring people to salvation by sharing with them the gospel of God through witnessing, in order to make them candidates of the Kingdom of God.

*PRAYER:*
Father, help me to be faithful to the assignment of Your Kingdom through Jesus Christ Our Lord. _*Amen.*_

*QUOTE FOR THE DAY*
God says:

_"I will teach your children My ways and give them great peace."_ *Isaiah 54: 13*

*THE DAILY DEVOTIONAL.* CHURCH OF NIGERIA _(ANGLICAN COMMUNION)_

*DATE:* SATURDAY, 18TH MAY, 2024 *THEME:* FAITHFULNESS AND SINCERITY

*TEXT:* PHILIPPIANS 2: 19-24 (NKJV)

2:19. But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, that I also may be encouraged when I know your state.
2:20. For I have no one like-minded, who will sincerely care for your state.
2:21. For all seek their own, not the things which are of Christ Jesus.
2:22. But you know his proven character, that as a son with [his] father he served with me in the gospel.
2:23. Therefore I hope to send him at once, as soon as I see how it goes with me.
2:24. But I trust in the Lord that I myself shall also come shortly.

*MESSAGE:*

In our passage today, we read about Apostle Paul's intention to send somebody to the Philippian, so that he could get the account of their affairs and other things concerning the church as at that time. Timothy was one in thought, feeling and spirit with Paul as regards things relating to love for the church of God. He was a man of an excellent spirit and tender heart who was faithful and sincere in his duties. He was also that man who had been tried and made full part of Paul's ministry, unlike others who were looking after what would bring them gain in place of things which are of Jesus Christ. Paul was looking for like-minded fellows.

It is a pity today that what we see as sincerity, faithfulness, commitment and sacrifice most times especially within the church, is simply rooted in the desire for selfish gain. The quest for personal profit has taken the place of faithfulness and sincerity in both secular and spiritual environments, even among those who are expected to be good role models to their generations as well as the younger ones coming behind them. Ask yourself: Why am I into what I am into? Where does my interest lie in the assignment placed before me? As for Timothy, Paul testified that he was concerned about the welfare of others. As clergy, church officer or leader, have you ever thought about what can be said about you concerning your service now? God is looking for a faithful and sincere person at this crucial time; will you be that one person?

*PRAYER:*
Father, help me to be faithful and sincere, even where I am now, _*Amen.*_

*QUOTE FOR THE DAY*
God says:

_"My goodness and mercy will chase after you all your life."_ *Psalm 23: 6*

✝️📗DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL
Date: 2024-May -17

🎯TOPIC: SACRIFICIAL SERVICE

✝️ TEXT: Philippians 2: 17-18(NKJV)
2:17. Yes, and if I am being poured out [as a drink offering] on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.
2:18. For the same reason you also be glad and rejoice with me.

✝️ STUDY: In our text today, Paul talks about himself being poured, which we can view to mean “to be offered as a libation or what is known as drink offering.”This refers to Paul's sacrificial ministry among the Philippian church by showing them the light of salvation through the testimony about the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The drink offering simply means the topping off ofan ancient animal's sacrifice (Exo. 39: 41). The offerer would pour wine on top of the burning animal and the wine would vapourise. This was seen in the Philippians' sacrificial services. Paul also saw them as converted Christians who offered their lives and everything they had sacrificially and faithfully to the service of God. Today, we know as Christians that many challenges can appear in the journey to our heavenly home. Sometimes, the race may seem too difficult to run; situations around us may attempt to push us off the track. However, as Christians, all we need to do is to keep focusing on the Lord our Saviour and not give room for weariness and tiredness, whatever the nature of our commitment to God may be. Everything must be done unto him sacrificially. Note that the only acceptable service unto God is the one done sacrificially and not for the sake ofreward.a

✝️ PRAYER: Heavenly Father, give me the grace to be totally committed to your service in Jesus mightyname. Amen.
