Workch:
you are having a lot of half baked opinions.
A method of measuring the speed of light is to measure the time needed for light to travel to a mirror at a known distance and back. Have you ever tried it and got a different figure?
You don't understand what you are talking about obviously. Your above statement proves that. If you can't see why the above method and relativity can't work together I have nothing more to say. Bye friend.
Christianity EtcRe: How I Became An Atheist. by Enceladus(m): 12:11am On Jul 28, 2021
Workch:
Wow, you think think C current value was assumed?
Are you kidding me? Why do you lot have peripheral knowledge on stuffs and never want to dig deep?
Is the current C the speed of light on a one-way trip or on a two way's trip divide by 2 ?

Also my initial statement is why did Einstein believe that the true value of C is the value of C he was using.
Christianity EtcRe: How I Became An Atheist. by Enceladus(m): 11:52pm On Jul 27, 2021
Workch:
But first, explain to me how theory of relativity is fallacious?
What kind of fallacy is E=MC ^2?

I will leave that to you to read on that. Reading about special relativity and why c's current value was assumed will help you get to the fact.

Saying the world is built on fallacy is also a fallacy.

I am referring to why everything in the world is literally built upon e=mc2 .
Christianity EtcRe: How I Became An Atheist. by Enceladus(m): 11:43pm On Jul 27, 2021
Workch:
so we should believe you because you quoted Carl Sagan’s opinion on religion?

That’s another fallacy, fallacy of appealing to authority.

Mention any religion that doesn’t hold infallible dogmas, I will wait.

Science is a religion is strictly your opinion and it’s not true.
Fallacy this fallacy that. The world is literally built on fallacy if you don't know. E = mc2 is a fallacy btw so stop whining about fallacy.

Also the only response you could give to my claim was that it has this and that dogma characteristics. Is that not a fallacy.

Anyways, I am not interested in this round-robin debate because it is leading nowhere.
Christianity EtcRe: How I Became An Atheist. by Enceladus(m): 11:27pm On Jul 27, 2021
Workch:
its not compulsory to have a deity in religion but you have adulterated the definition as a result of your mischief.

The most important quality of any religion is the to hold dogmas. Dogmas are belief that cannot be changed even when you present overwhelming evidence.

The moment you organize yourself to hold infallible dogmas, you become a religion and that’s not the case in science. Everything is fallible as long as you provide new evidence.

You ended of committing a fallacy of Tu quoque, is an informal fallacy that intends to discredit the opponent's argument by attacking the opponent's own personal behavior as being inconsistent with the argument's conclusion(s). It’s also called the “you also” fallacy.

You guys should realize that we have had this debate time without numbers, we can predict every move of an insecure religious person.
First, this is not a philosophical debate and I also laugh really hard at people forming atheism. Being there, done that.

I will only talk about the bolded because that is where you started getting things wrong. One thing you should know is religion creation most times is not a conscious effort. Carl Sagan once said Religions arose in part as attempts to propitiate and control, if not much to understand, the disorderly aspect of Nature.

I am not here to argue with you about religion. I don't belong to one. Though I have massive knowledge about the one's that interests me including the science religion.

It’s no surprise that I am an atheist, but one thing people don’t know about me is that I was a Christian for 28years. Yes 28years.

I was not just a Christian, I had full membership in my church and was a member of the choir. I was born into a Christian home, we had morning and evening devotions everyday as a child. My dad personally tried indoctrinating us a lot, we read the Bible every single day and then he explains but seriously even as a child a lot of the stories didn’t add up but I was scared that I was being blasphemous.
I remember a day my dad was teaching us about Noah’s flood and then we got to that point where god said he’s using the rainbow as a sign to remind humanity that he would never destroy earth with flood. Even as a 9years old, that part didn’t make sense to me, because I see it in the news frequently of flood destroying farms, properties and even killing people. I asked my dad and he didn’t give me a reasonable explanation.
As a teenager, I started teaching Sunday school to kids in church, I taught them that god never change but in my mind, I wasn’t convinced because while reading the Bible, there many instances of god changing his mind and even regretting his decisions. I always think about it that the god of Old Testament seems different from what is portrayed in the New Testament, something changed. I kept a lot of things to myself because people around were so religious and would quickly rebuke me for such reasoning.
As time goes on, I joined the choir, I learn drums and keyboard, I sang choir ministrations and even wrote songs for my church choir. All these while, it wasn’t clear, I was just scared to come out fully.

I got admitted into the university to study biochemistry. Being someone that is very inquisitive, I started asking so many questions in respect to the relationship between living organisms. After having background knowledge in genetics, molecular biology and biological metabolism, it was clear that every living thing are the same basically. At this point, I didn’t even understand the theory of evolution properly but I had seen the a fairly clear picture. I had to go back and then study the theory of evolution properly (took weeks), because the impression I had from secondary school was that an ape turned into human. Our biology teachers, just like every other biology teachers in Nigerian schools, were so bad at teaching the theory of evolution. Seems like a lot of them didn’t even understand it.

Fast forward, I graduated, I still believed god existed. since after I properly studied the theory of evolution, I started holding the notion that God presided over evolution and the Bible is somehow consistent with the theory of evolution. This idea was born out of the sheer fear of not wanting to sound blasphemous to my beloved ones. After I graduated, I started reading wide, I didn’t like physics in school but I started reading physics (specifically quantum and astrophysics), I discovered about Big Bang theory, theory of relativity, string theory etc, it took a lot of time before I could grasp them but when I did, it became clearer that the Bible is not consistent with anything in reality.

It was difficult for me to accept this truth because I didn’t want to be seen as a blasphemer, not until I had the opportunity to run my masters degree abroad in clinical biochemistry. I met with lot of renown and brilliant people in the field of biochemistry. They were realistic in their beliefs and will not believe anything unless you can back it with evidence. I became bolder with time, we shared ideas as I studied. Th society gives everyone liberty and I was very free to come out clean with my realistic traits. A lot of my lecturers didn’t believe in god. I became a full fledged atheist in Europe by the time I finished my program.

Today, I have done several works and I still keep reading to find the truth, so far I haven’t seen anything consistent with the Christian God. I am back in Nigeria and trust me, I don’t have lot of friends for this reason. I have just two friends and they are both agnostic ( I made them agnostic because they are open minded and also brilliant Phd holders in biochemistry).
So they converted you into atheism religion abi? Sorry to tell you that you are still not free from religion. Science is a religion and the scientific method with a little bit of arrogance is the god.

I will be trying to sell some of these paintings either as NFT or even try my luck at the many Lagos art exhibition events. Money must be made.

The network could do better, the loss could be lowered to about 1 - 2 but I don't have enough quality images in my dataset so I guess this will be the end of the project for now.

I will later create a Colab notebook and share the link here so that anyone interested can play with the network and generate some magic art for themselves.

Thanks for reading, Ad Astra.

Self Criticism Of the Network

One weakness of neural networks is that they are sensitive to training data, and they can be easily biased based on the data that was fed to them. I will give an example. Amazon once trained an AI to help in the recruitment process by rejecting or accepting candidates based on resume profile and it was later discovered that the AI was just rejecting women anyhow, even the qualified ones. The was later traced to the fact that it was not trained with enough women data so it was seeing them as some kind of aberration. My network too learnt some biasedness that I will talk about below.

1. Due to the abundant presence of their paintings in the dataset, the network will predominantly generate group portrait of the Masai Mara people of Kenya and Tanzania. Five in ten of these kinds of portraits belong to them.

2. The network has probably been brainwashed and believes in the term "THE FUTURE IS FEMALE" because it will hardly generate a male painting. I also noticed that it generates only afro hairstyle (?) for the females.

3. Any time the network generates a group abstract-like painting, expect the individuals to either carry a basket/calabash on their head or hold a cane for leading cows. (Fulanis una no try !!)

In the second phase, I upscaled the training images to 516 pixels and started training again from the last checkpoint. On the first batch, the loss shot up to about 73 again and the network was generating incoherent images again. After 24 hours straight the network was normalized and loss was about 20. The second phase lasted for about four days again, and the best checkpoint was at 16.80 loss.

Total training took 8 days but this is slightly unusual because I was trying to teach the network many things. Training the network to paint only portraits for example should only take about a day with two Nvidia V100 GPUs but with a single V100, 8 days is quite alright.

Pictures after the second phase. The pictures are painted with more intent now.

ProgrammingRe: Generative Adversarial Networks ---- Training A Neural Network To Paint Art. by Enceladus(op): 2:19pm On Apr 24, 2021
The first training phase took four days. The loss/inverse accuracy metric dropped from 75 to 17 in this phase. The model has learned what painting is by this phase. it can easily use different types of brush strokes, and it can also paint a different kind of art piece ranging from abstract to portrait e.t.c I didn't stop here because only 256 x 256 pixels images can be gotten from the network.

Below are some of the outputs from this phase.

ProgrammingRe: Generative Adversarial Networks ---- Training A Neural Network To Paint Art. by Enceladus(op):
I curated about 10,000 images of African centred art paintings from the internet. I then reviewed the images one by one deleting the ones that are not too artistic, or duplicates. After the review process, I was left with about 6,500 images of purely African origin art.

The next stage is preprocessing. Images were cropped and resized to the required dimensions. (256 x 256 then 512 x 512 later). Thanks to the script provided by the Nvidia lab guys it was very straightforward and fast.

I split the training into two phases to make learning faster. I trained the network to generate 256 x 256 images first. This is to aid the network in learning because it is easy to work with 256 x 256 pixels first, grasp the concept of painting then go on to generate paintings of 512 x 512.

A Generative Adversarial Network is a method of training creative neural networks based on the following analogy.

A generator money heister network called the professor will be trained to generate counterfeit money, and another discriminator detective network holmes will be trained to differentiate between real and fake money.

On each training round, the professor generates fake money, we show the detector network either real or fake money and we train it to better differentiate the two. If we show the detective fake money from the professor, and it fools it as real money then the professor is getting better at generating fake money. Else if the detective is not fooled, we ask the detective network what gave the money up as fake and we give that information to the professor for him to be able to generate better counterfeit money.

This game continues for hours/days/months until it gets to a point where the detective can not identify if the money we show is from the professor or real, and it can only predict a 50/50 chance (Nash Equilibrium). This is when we say the generator has converged and can produce realistic-looking money.

The above training method (also called the min-max game) has been used in training our network to generate Art paintings centred around the African people.

Neural networks have taken over the world. From learning to generate deep fakes, to god level skills in playing a game, to writing a movie manuscript (that was later acted), these giant matrices of floating-point numbers are gaining human-level intelligence in many fields, and they are laying the foundation for the super AGI, the technological singularity.

With these said accomplishments, neural networks still have some field/skills they are yet to master. An example is their ability to express innate creativity in tasks like Art making, music generation, abstract imaginations e.t.c. This post is about demonstrating how far we've come in designing creative AI.

Yes. Network is very important, that is why I don't open colab directly when I want to do serious training. I open colab through a gcloud VM with stable network. About the data, my dataset is also stored on the cloud (gdrive or dropbox) so uploading is in seconds to minutes as the colab runtime has a very fast internet speed.

How did you survive google collab constantly shutting down your training, or did you use gcloud?
Colab shutdowns after around 12 hours, so I make sure the code checkpoints the model before then (use of python time module). The checkpoint is stored on google drive so training resumption is painless.

Printed money is normally about only 3% of the total money at anytime. The cost of printing let's say 500 naira is hypothetical around 100 Kobo so the CBN earns 499 naira 900 Kobo. This is sweet money right but inflation is a bitch so there is a law I guess that limit the amount because of inflation and politicians.
