The NFF president has been directed to support the Cameroonian despite his intention to vote for Madagascar's Ahmad In a new twist ahead of the Caf elections that will take place on Thursday, March 16, in Addis Ababa, the Nigerian government has ordered its delegation to vote for incumbent Issa Hayatou despite its previous choice of challenger Ahmad of Madagascar. According to an AFP report, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo asked NFF chief Amaju Pinnick to support the Cameroonian who is seeking to extend his 29-year reign at the top of African football for diplomatic reasons. Cameroon’s government had backed the Nigerian effort to quash the terrorist group Boko Haram that created an enclave in the border area of both countries and Chad. A multinational force was needed to dislodge the group that held more than two hundred school girls captive. Pinnick, who is also contesting for a place on the Caf Executive Committee, has been in the forefront of a campaign to stop Hayatou from continuing in office, with Ahmad the beneficiary. However, the Nigerian government has now taken a position for Hayatou, as the NFF delegation arrived in Addis Ababa on Monday to intensify campaigns. “There is an existing joint relationship between Nigeria and Cameroon and most recently both countries collaborated in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency,” said an unnamed high ranking member of the Nigerian government quoted by the AFP in Abuja. “We can’t afford to jeopardize this relationship. “Pinnick has therefore been ordered to cast his vote for Hayatou even if every other country failed to do so, as Nigeria does not owe Madagascar anything.” This election is the most hotly contested since Hayatou became president in 1988. It is seen as a shift towards to a more progressive and forward-minded organization by the young Turks who want to bring an end to the 70-year-old’s time at the helm of Caf. Ahmad has gotten the backing of the 14-member Council of Southern African Football Associations and several other FA chiefs across the continent. "We have to follow the path of the rest of the world, as Africa cannot afford to be left behind. I believe that Africa is ready for change. This is the first time in the history of (Hayatou's) Caf that there is a real and possible challenge to the leadership," Liberia FA chief Musa Bility told the BBC on Monday. It is also believed that Fifa president Gianni Infantino, who met several African chiefs in Harare, Zimbabwe, last month, and his secretary general Fatma Samoura are in favour of a change. Pinnick told CNN in February that there were problems between Infantino and Hayatou since the latter’s decision to support Sheikh Salman of Bahrain during the Fifa elections in 2016. This order exposes the lack of autonomy of many African football federations. But since Article 18.1 of the Caf Statutes declare that the elections shall be secret ballot, it is left to see if Pinnick will follow his government’s order or hold onto his convictions. Kenya FA boss Nick Mwendwa, who failed to declare his choice, told Goal: “It is a secret ballot. People should only wait to see results after elections.” www.goal.com/enza/amp/news/4563/main/2017/03/13/33604762/caf-election-nigeria-government-orders-pinnick-to-vote-for

The is a complete lie from the pit of hell on osun Here is workers protest December laat year. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun has called on the state government to pay workers the outstanding balance of the half salaries they have been receiving since July 2015. The call was made in a press statement signed by the state chairman of NLC, Mr Jacob Adekomi and made available to newsmen in Osogbo. According to statement, the government owes workers on salary Grade Level 08 and above as well as pensioners, the balance of half salaries paid to them over a period of 18 months. It commended Gov. Rauf Aregbesola of the state for paying the salaries of workers in the state up till November and urged him to fulfil his promise to pay the balance of the half salaries for the 18 months. Aregbosola “We do not doubt that the governor is a man of his words and he will attend to the balance of the outstanding amount of the salaries of officers on salary Grade Level 08 as well as the pensioners. “The outgoing year has been challenging for the workers in the state in the face of the grim and unfriendly economic situation due to the economic recession. “The development is no doubt sufficient to trigger industrial crises, but the perseverance and understanding of workers, and trust in their leadership in the state, kept the ship of movement afloat in spite of raging storm,’’ the statement said The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that state government paid three months salary arrears that covered October to November on Dec. 21, from the Paris loan’s refund to the state. This is made up of full salary for workers on salary Grade Levels 01 – 07 and 75 per cent to workers on salary Grade Levels 08 and above. The NLC is, however, asking for the balance of all the incomplete salary paid to workers on salary Grade Level 08 and above and pensioners in the state since July 2015. Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has ordered the freezing of all bank accounts of local governments in the state. He has also directed the suspension of the payments of salaries and allowances of the local council chairmen, councilors and political appointees. PREMIUM TIMES gathered that councils were informed of the development on Thursday. Chairman of the Ondo State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, (ALGON), Bayo Alarapon, confirmed the development. Mr. Alarapon, who is the Chairman of the Akure South Local Government, said the council chairmen were yet to decide on what steps to take on the matter. “We have not really gone into the matter, but we are already into it and whatever we decide later, we will let the world know,” he said. All the chairmen and councilors of the 18 local councils are members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, elected in an election held in April 2016. The council officials have a high court judgment in their favour restraining the new governor from dissolving them with respect to their subsisting tenures. Efforts to get a response from the office of the governor were unfruitful, because the newly-appointed Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, was yet to fully assume duties as the governor’s spokesman. www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/ssouth-west/225693-ondo-governor-akeredolu-freezes-lg-council-accounts.html

Passengers stranded, lack access to ATM, PoS, BDC Air passengers plying the Kaduna International Airport (KIA) are facing fresh hurdles as airlines operating at the aerodrome are insisting on only cash transaction. The newly refurbished airport, which also serves as an alternative to the closed Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, is currentlyoperat without Automated Teller Machines (ATM), Point of Sale (PoS) and Bureau de Change (BDC) outlets to serve international passengers especially. Some passengers without cash to buy tickets or prior booking arrangements are left stranded at the airport. The development is coming at a time the Federal Government is working to ensure a seamless transition, as the airport is the only route to connect the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which is the seat of the government. Besides, the cash-only syndrome runs contrary to the cashless policy of the economy. The Guardian learnt that a family of six was among those stranded at the weekend and unable to travel.A traveller, Samson Akinsiku said it was shocking to find airlines rejecting debit cards, and saying there was no PoS. “There are three of the airlines heading to Lagos almost at the same time, which is good anyway. To buy ticket became the problem. The first said its PoS was not working, the other two said they did not even have at all. And this is supposed to be an international airport? “I didn’t know how big the shit was until I asked for an ATM and they said there was none around, except if I go to town some 10 to 20kilomatres away,” he said. Another traveller, Emmanuel, also expressed concerns on services rendered by airlines officials at the airport, who insisted on closing the counter by 4:00 p.m. Emmanuel, who travelled by rail from Abuja yesterday to catch a Lagos flight, was shocked to find the airline’s counter closed by 4:30p.m. When he insisted on flying, since the aircraft was still on ground and seats available, he was given a bill of N28,000 instead of N16,000 promo fare. Emmanuel got a hand-written boarding pass in exchange for the N28,000. When asked why the airline had no PoS and the counter closed early, an Arik Air official said it was the norm around there.“That is how we operate here. We don’t use PoS. You either bring your money or forget it,” the official fired back. The Communications Manager for Dana Air, Kingsley Ezenwa said the development was unusual and they were doing everything possible to go cashless in Kaduna by today or tomorrow. “We have been on this for a while. But it is the banks that kept delaying us. We pushed them all through last week to put the necessary things in place. We know its importance to making passengers have seamless travel experience and we will stop at nothing to have the PoS option working. If not tomorrow (today), then Tuesday latest,” he said. The Spokesperson of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Henrietta Yakubu, also confirmed that the banks were in the process of beginning operations at the airport, to support transactions, whether cash or cashless. Yakubu assured that the likes of Zenith, Guaranteed Trust Bank (GTB) and First Bank were due to begin operations and open ATM facilities this week. It was also learnt yesterday that the Nigeria International Trade and Investment Conference (NITIC) 2017 scheduled to hold this month in Abuja has been postponed. The organisers, Africa International Trade and Development Trust, said the postponement was due to ongoing repairs on the runway of the Abuja airport. The conference with the theme “Multiple Frontiers: Moving Away From Oil” is aimed at bringing local and international stakeholders together to discuss international trade and investment in the non-oil sector, focusing on agribusiness, manufacturing and financial services. The event endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development initially scheduled to hold this month at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja would now take place in June at the same venue. The spokesperson for the organisers, Sand Mba Kalu said: “Efforts to convince registered participants and embassies to use the Kaduna International Airport were not successful. We have talked to several of them but they seemed not interested in coming through Kaduna airport. So, the only option was to postpone the event to June when renovation work at the Abuja airport runway would have been completed.” Meanwhile, the United Nations Aviation School Project has commenced the training of all Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel in Nigeria. The training, The Guardian learnt, is to effectively mitigate the threat posed to civil aviation by terrorist organisations around the world. It will also provide a key element for a robust national aviation security policy to meet global standards in infrastructure, safety and security. The initiative would enhance the capacity within the UN system to help interested member states to implement the multiple dimension of countering terrorism. The 120-day event tagged: ‘’Train the Trainer’’ is simultaneously ongoing in Lagos and Abuja. The UN-initiated programme comprises 34 aviation security personnel from both Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). While NCAA has four, FAAN which provides security surveillance at all the airports has 30 participants. The Spokesperson of the NCAA, Sam Adurogboye, confirmed that a total of 25 countries were considered and Nigeria was chosen for the pilot training. http://m.guardian.ng/news/airlines-at-kaduna-airport-insist-on-cash-payment/
