The Federal Government is poised to enhance mental health in the South East with the establishment of 15 outposts in the five states of the zone.

Medical Director of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu, Monday Igwe, disclosed this at a press briefing shortly after he resumed office following his re-appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term of four years.

He explained the outposts would be located in each of the senatorial districts, noting that the essence was to make access to mental health services easier for the people of the zone.

He disclosed nine out of the 15 proposed outposts had been completed and equipped and would be operational soonest with ambulances readily available to convey patients to Enugu in major cases.

Igwe said: “This hospital is the only psychiatric facility in the entire South East region. It is also the only facility that is made to train doctors and nurses in psychiatry. It is also the only facility that offers research in terms of mental health in the South East. It is also our mandate to give clinical services to people that have mental illnesses.

“The hospital also is available for the people of South South and some parts of North Central region of the country. So, if we don’t do well, we will be leaving Nigerians to suffer. That’s why we want to make this place to be the best and centre of excellence in mental health practice.

“There are a number of ways to actualise this. Since many people live very far away from Enugu State, we want to make sure our 15 newly built outposts in South East are operational.

“We have ensured each of the 15 senatorial districts in the South East has one outpost. We have successfully completed and equipped nine of the outposts while the rest are still ongoing.

“Those ones we have completed are going to be activated. We are going to post our staff there.”

The medical director received a rousing welcome from staff of the hospital, where he thanked the president for finding him worthy of another tenure in office.

Igwe took over a fractured health institution four years ago and has made efforts to restore the lost glory of the hospital.

A Yoruba Muslim taxi driver was almost lynched the other day in Waterside Port Harcourt for telling a passenger that Igbos wants to take over Lagos without knowing that his passenger, an Okrika man’s brothers shop was among those burnt in Lagos by the unruly Agberos.

The problem with Yoruba Muslims is that they believe that everyone that comes from the East and South are all Igbos without knowing that many other Nationalities including Edo, Ijaw and Ibibio are also in spare parts business.

I have always emphasised that Yoruba Muslim if not handled well they will eventual bring the great Yoruba race to opprobrium and it is happening already. No wonder, the great sage Awo avoided them in Yoruba politics ever since most of the yorubas that betrayed him are from this creed.

We have many of them in PH, Elele and Oyigbo coming in Bolekejas with little or nothing, and then move into Taxi Driving, Business and Landlords. We never molest them or tell them where to vote during elections but see what they have done to other people in their region just because of their hatred and bigotry.

They should be careful because their problems would start the day the real Omoluabis decide to say that enough is enough and send them parking back to the dingy Kwara and Iragbiji.

The Anti-Narcotics Squad, Outer District has done a splendid work by arresting a Nigerian drug supplier from Nihal Vihal area who used to supply drugs in Delhi/NCR. Approx. 1.01 Kg of Heroin has been recovered from his possession and a case vide FIR No. 435/2023 dated 08.04.2023 U/s 21/25 NDPS Act was registered at PS Nihal Vihar, Outer District,Delhi.

On 07/04/2023, a secret information was received in Anti Narcotics Squad/Outer District, regarding an African origin person namely ‘Sunday’ who is running an African Kitchen at Shiv Vihar, Nilothi Extension, Nihal Vihar and in the garb of the African Kitchen, he supplies drugs in large quantities locally and in other areas of Delhi/NCR.

It was further informed that Sunday will be going to Tilak Nagar for supplying Heroin.The authenticity of the information was checked and a raiding team comprising ASI Rajendra Prasad, HC Jai Prakash and HC Harbans, led by Insp. Sushil Kumar, Anti Narcotics Squad was constituted.

The raiding team reached the spot and a trap was laid to nab the drug supplier. After sometime, the suspect of African origin was sighted coming out from a four storey house, holding a Khaki colour paper bag. As the raiding team moved towards him, he turned around and tried to quickly return to the house but the raiding team acted swiftly and after chasing him for a while to the flat, the team overpowered him. On enquiry, he was identified as Sunday Okeke Ugwuoke S/o Ugwuoke r/o Town - Nsukka, Enugu State, Nigeria, Age 46 years.

Meanwhile, ACP Operations, Outer District also reached the spot. Thereafter, the search of Khaki colour paper bag was conducted and two polythene packets containing powder were found inside the bag. The powder was tested with the Field Testing Kit and it was found to be ‘Heroin’.

According to the 1999 constitution of the federal republic, a presidential candidate after securing 25% in 24 states , must also secure 25% in the FCT to be declared winner of the election .

All the results from the FCT are in.

The APC was only able to get 20%,
