Ken stared across the hospital waiting room looking miserable and uncomfortable, he turned to his right and saw a man and an elderly woman, the man was pacing up and down the hallway, his wife's probably in the delivery room, at his other side, a young couple sat, the crying woman was nestled against her husband's chest, their child's probably ill, He felt pity for them.

He bent his head and swallowed hard, thinking what could have caused his wife's unconsciousness, the fear that his wife might not make it out of the emergency ward overwhelmed him, he didn't want to loose his wife, he couldn't even bear to think of life without her, the two days he spent without her had been hell for him, he spent countless hours on the phone with everyone she knew asking for her whereabout, he already resolved to report the situation in the police station if she didn't turn up at the end of the day.

He sighed and looked again at the couple who sat next to him, tears was now streaking down the woman's cheeks, he shrugged atleast she has her husband to comfort her; he had no one except his friends who were in no condition to help him at the moment, he had left Nate at the bar so he could help drive K.C home to avoid him embarrasing himself any further.
He didn't have any siblings, his step siblings were all abroad and his step mother would utilize the opportunity to call his wife names, his dad couldn't care less if she lived or died, there was absolutely no one to call.

He sighed, his only prayer was for her to get better.

He was still thinking about what could have led to his wife's present condition when Nate ran in like he was being pursured by an enemy.

''Ken, Ken, where is she'' he asked almost yelling.

''Still in the emergency unit'' Ken replied without raising his head.

''what led to the unconsciousness?''

''bro, I've got no idea'' Ken replied with his head up and his hand folded across his chest.

''Hang in there man, your wife will soon be back to you, hale and hearty'' Nate consoled.

''Thanks bro, how's K.C''

''I just dropped him at home and turned on his shower for him, he is a bit sober now, I called his secretary to come and help him''

''oh! But I don't think it's advisable for an outsider to see him in that condition, call her and stop her from coming, I can manage here''

''are you sure about that'' Nate asked.

''Yeah, I am, my only prayer is that she get's better soon''

''i hope so too'' Nate replied and just then a man obviously a doctor with his white jacket approached their direction and smiled at no one in particular.

''Mr Kennedy?'' the doctor called out.

''I'm here'' Ken replied standing up.

''I'm doctor smart, incharge of your wife's case, your wife has regained consciousness'' the doctor said with a genuine smile plastered on his face.

He heaved a sigh of relief ''Oh, thank God''

''Can i talk to you in private'' the doctor said, the smile that was on his face now gone.

Nate understood and gripped Ken's shoulder joyfully ''Bro, am happy for you, I need to run along now, i need to see how K.C is faring, i already sent a text to his secretary, she won't be coming over again''

''alright, thanks man'' Ken replied flashing him a bright smile for the first time since morning.

'' I will get something for you and your wifey on my way back, i won't take long'' Nate said and nodded in the doctor's direction before walking off.

Ken nervously sat facing the doctor, who was on the phone with someone.

''Mr Ken?'' The doctor called again after he was done with the call.

''Yes'' he replied sharply trying to hide his nervousness.

''Be happy that she made it through, if she hadn't been brought here at the time she was brought in, she wouldn't have made it through''

''Doctor Smart... Right?...what really happened to her'' Ken asked anxiously.

''The person who brought her here, a cleaner precisely said he went in to clean her hotel room, only to find the occupant, in this case your wife lying unconscious on the floor''

K.C nodded but he still wasn't satisfied with the answer.

Knowing he wasn't satisfied with the answer the doctor smiled and continued ''your wife took an overdose of Valium or Diazepem, which ever one you call it''

''doctor, please what does that mean? I don't know anything about drugs''

''simply put Valium belongs to a category of drugs called benzodiazepines, it can be used as a sedative or a sleep aid. It's often prescribed to people with anxiety and Insomnia, it can cause uncousciousness, coma or even death, your wife case was a different case''

The doctor said and waited for the information to sink in.

''why is it different'' Ken asked with pained voice.

''she mixed it with alcohol'' the doctor replied and Ken stood up abruptly.

''alcohol? My wife doesn't take alcohol''

''well, she did and the bottle was found lying by her side''

''how? how is this possible'' Ken asked with tears in his eyes.

''am sorry, but this is a case of attempted suicide''
