Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has said that the ability of the Presidential flag bearer of the All Progressive's Congress (APC) , Bola Ahmed Tinubu to delegate responsibilities to competent persons in authority is in line with the contemporary requirements of modern democracy, IGBERETV reports.

The former Abia state governor noted that the era of leaders single handedly conceiving and executing policies was over.

Kalu said while speaking on Political Paradigm, a political programme of Channels Television on Monday.

"Tinubu will be one of the greatest Presidents we shall ever have because of the skill of delegation. He has the skill and the modern way of leading people is no longer 'everything to yourself'.

"You must assign the job to other people who are competent. You must tell the people to do it and he has proven that as Governor of Lagos and after."

"We should learn to be comfortable with divorce. The longevity of a marriage should not be the prize. The prize should be happiness, fulfillment and mental well being of the couple involved. Where it is no longer optimal, people can decide to go their separate ways and be happy."

At least 10 people have died in an accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, IGBERETV reports, IGBERETV reports.

It was reported that accident involving a Mack truck and a Toyota Hiace bus occurred in the Oniworo area.

Confirming the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, Mr Ahmed Umar explained that the accident occurred at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2022. He said the accident was caused by road obstruction on the part of the trailer and also excessive speed and loss of control on the part of the driver of the bus.

He explained that the Toyota bus marked KLD 539 XA lost control and ran into the truck with no registration number at the rear.

He said: "A total of 19 people were involved in the crash which comprised 13 male adults and six female adults.

"Two male adults sustained injuries while seven male adults, two female adults and one female child died in the accident."

Umar stated that the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere for medical attention while the deceased were deposited at the Ipara morgue.

Umar further urged motorists to always put on the headlamp when the weather is poor. He cautioned motorists, especially truck drivers, to always display caution signs whenever there is a breakdown on the road.

Nigeria's former President, Goodluck Jonathan has said that most politicians get blinded when they get political power, IGBERETV reports.

Speaking during a book presentation/reception that ended week-long activities that marked the retirement of the Bayelsa State Chief Judge, Justice Kate Abiri, Jonathan advised politicians not to be blinded by the power they wield. He also urged judicial officers to strive to be impartial and courageous in upholding the rule of law, which he noted was significant in the delivery of justice.

Jonathan said;

“I advise politicians that while in office, let us not try to blackmail the judiciary because it is conservative. When we get political power, we get so blinded. Politicians should know that society is changing.

“Today, we are celebrating our retiring Chief Judge because she has served meritoriously. In 2015, she left Bayelsa for Rivers to perform the swearing-in of the governor thereby averting anarchy. It appears that the judicial arm is more functional than the executive.”

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested six members of a gang notoriously known as Shilla Boys, IGBERETV reports.

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, in a statement on Sunday, January 8, 2023, said fourteen stolen laptops were recovered from the suspects.

"Further to the Command's renewed commitment to checkmating crime and criminality ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari's visit to Yola, the Adamawa State Capital, the Command on the 7/1/2023, disconnected the criminal network of Shilla gangsterism, connecting Upper and Down Luggere in Yola North Local Government," the statement read.

"The suspected Shila boys specialise in burgling and stealing valuable items from peoples' shops and houses within the State Capital.

"The outcome of this commitment designed by the command to ensuring public order, safety and security before, during and after the visit of Mr President, led to the arrest of 6 suspects, Faisal Abubakar,18, Abdulsalam Muhammed,17, Mahmud Musa ,18, Abdul Aziz Muhammed 18, Abubakar Jidda, 18, and Christopher Daniel, 30, all of various addresses.

"Interestingly, fourteen computer laptops were recovered from the suspects in the course of investigation."

The Commissioner of Police, CP SK Akande, while commending officers and Men deployed for denying the suspects the opportunity to escape arrest and further directed total clamp down on criminals who are bent on disrupting the peace of the public.

The CP called on the populace to always inform the police of the whereabouts of Criminals and their hideouts.

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 20-year old man, Gaddafi Sagir, for killing his pregnant stepmother, Rabi’atu Sagir,25, and her daughter, Munawwara Sagir, in Kano State, IGBERETV reports.

The incident occurred at Fadama, Rijiyar Zaki Quarters, in Ungogo Local Government Area of the state on Saturday, January 7, 2023.

The spokesman of the command, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa Haruna, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, January 8, said the suspect stabbed Rabi'atu to death with a screwdriver and strangled her 8-year-old daughter with her headtie.

"On 07/01/2023 at about 2330hrs, a report was received from one Sagir Yakubu, ‘m’, of Fadama Rijiyar Zaki Quarters, Ungogo LGA, Kano State, that he returned home and met his pregnant wife, one Rabi’atu Sagir, ‘f’, 25 years old and her daughter, Munawwara Sagir, ‘f’, 8 years old in a pool of blood motionless. And that, he is strongly suspecting his son, Gaddafi," the statement read.

"On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Police Command, CP Mamman Dauda, psc(+) raised and instructed a team of Detectives led by CSP Usman Abdullahi, Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Rijiyar Zaki Division to proceed to the scene, rush the victims to Hospital and ensure the arrest of the culprit(s).

"The team immediately went to the scene, cordoned off the area and rushed the victims to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano, where a Medical Doctor certified them dead.

"The suspect, Gaddafi Sagir, ‘m’, 20 years old was arrested in an uncompleted building in an attempt to escape from Kano.

"On preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to having singlehandedly used a screwdriver, stabbed his stepmother on her neck and forehead and strangled her daughter with her head tie until she was no longer breathing. An investigation is in progress."

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a student of the College of Health Technology Mubi, Adamawa state, Komi Yusuf, for matcheting his cousin to death in Prambe community, Dumne Development Area, Song Local Government Area on January 4th, 2023, IGBERETV reports.

Speaking to newsmen, residents of the community said Komi, who hails from Prambe, accused his cousin identified as Boniface, (now deceased) of being a witch and causing the death of his 5-month-old child. He also accused the victim and one of his cousins, Nasamu, of bewitching his daughter about 2 years ago.

Eyewitnesses said after the demise of his child, Komi armed himself with a matchet, trailed late Boniface where he was playing cards with friends, and used the machete to inflict a deep cut in the middle of Boniface's head which led to his death.

He was immediately arrested by the police and upon interrogation, he voluntarily confessed to the crime.

He narrated that about 2 years ago, late Boniface and Nasamu, "bewitched" his daughter and confessed to him. He said he warned them to stay clear off his family but they refused. The suspect said that he attacked his cousin out of anger because he felt that he killed his innocent child, admitting that there are witches among their family members in the community.

The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Yahaya Nguroje, who confirmed Komi's arrest said the state Commissioner of Police, S. K. Akande, has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to complete the investigation and ensure the prosecution of the suspect.

Some hoodlums burnt down the Umuchu Police Station, along the Umuchu-Achina road, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State on Sunday, IGBERETV reports.

It was gathered that the station was recently renovated by members of the Umuchu Improvement Union as it was destroyed during the #EndSARS protest in 2020.

No casualty was recorded.

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate, Tochukwu Nworih, who abducted a six-year-old girl in her mother's vehicle, IGBERETV reports.

The suspect and his gang were said to have abducted the child while the mother was buying some groceries.

The suspect, who called the parents of the victim, allegedly demanded N50 million as ransom and it was paid into an account.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Funmi Odunlami, in a statement on Saturday, January 7, said the suspect was nabbed by detectives while trying to withdraw his share of the ransom at a Point of Sales terminal, POS, in Akure, the state capital.

According to the PPRO, the victim’s mother, Mrs Chukwu-Ezedima, who met an empty car reported the incident to the police after all efforts to locate the daughter yielded no results.

He disclosed hat the arrest of Nworih led to the discovery of the little girl in the kidnappers’ den and she was rescued by the security operatives unhurt.

"During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence, while the victim was rescued unhurt. The suspect will soon be arraigned in court,” the police spokesperson said.

Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has condemned the alleged cult-related killings in Okpuno, Ifite and Obosi communities, IGBERETV reports.

The President General of Obosi Community, Hon Ike Okolo, was gunned down by gunmen in his car on January 2, 2023.

One other person was also reportedly killed in Obosi community, with his face shattered, making identification difficult.

Five persons including a PDP leader were killed by suspected cultists in Ifite and Nodu Okpuno communities, in Awka South Local Government Area of the state.

In a press release by the Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Christian Aburime, Soludo decried the killings.

"The attention of Anambra State Government has been drawn to killings within the State as a consequence of cult-related war among rival cult groups in Okpuno, Ifite and Obosi communities," the statement read.

"The State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR has condemned the cult-related war among rival groups and subsequent killings in Obosi and Okpuno in Idemili North and Awka South Council Areas respectively.

"In Obosi, the President General of the Community, Hon. Ike Okolo was reportedly shot dead in a petrol station on Monday, 2nd January, 2022, by gunmen, while in Obi Maduka's compound within Nodu town square, Nodu Okpuno, gunmen killed four people identified as Onyiebo Okoye, Kenechukwu Okeke, Jude Ebenezar and Obinna Maduka.

"Governor Soludo condemns these mindless killings in the strongest terms and has assured that the perpetrators will be apprehended and decisively dealt with, even if they have ran out of town. He stressed that they will be hunted down to face the full wrath of the law.

"This festive season, Anambra has enjoyed the best Christmas ever in decades as it was traffic-free with a new system of traffic control put in place by the government during the festive season with Anambra Youth Volunteers and the State traffic management agency working 24 hours at all the critical points to control traffic.

"Today, Monday, 2nd January that used to be observed as sit at home, witnessed massive outdoor activities, as the State bubbled with activities all over.

"Governor Soludo further reassured that the cult gangs that fought today will surely be tracked down and dealt with decisively in accordance with the law.

A man identified as Nkanu married two women, Mary and Jennet, the same day in Bazohure community, in Abi Local Government Area of Cross River state, IGBERETV reports.

Burna Boy Apologizes To Fans For Standing Them Up For 7 Hours At His Lagos Concert

Nigerian singer, Burna Boy has responded after many of his fans took to social media on Monday January 2, to blast him for keeping them waiting for seven hours at his concert in Lagos state on Sunday, January 1, IGBERETV reports.

The Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) has denied any involvement in the burning of offices belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) in the South East regions, IGBERETV reports.

Persons alleged to be members of the secessionist group have attacked several offices belonging to INEC as the commission prepares for the 2023 general elections.

However in a statement released by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the IPOB said the allegations were meant to disparage and blackmail the group. Powerful also denied allegations about the purported bomb factory owned by the group and killing of politicians in the South East.

He claimed they were political moves aimed at ruining Peter Obi’s chances in the 2023 presidential election. He also dismissed claims that members of the group were responsible for attacks on political rallies in the South East region.

“We know that they want to rig the elections in the South East against Peter Obi and blame it on IPOB and ESN. They burn markets and different properties of our people and blame it on IPOB. They declared a five-day ignored sit-at-home and killed our people and even killed a pregnant mother using IPOB and ESN identity.

All these activities were sponsored by Fulani terrorists and that’s why there haven’t been any arrest or prosecution of the perpetrators. They target to blackmail IPOB locally and internationally. These criminals were groomed to ensure they demonise IPOB and ESN.

Operatives of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) have arrested a 31-year-old man identified as Edeh Tochukwu, who killed his lover, 48-year-old Ijeoma Felix in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on October 24, 2022.

While being paraded before newsmen on Tuesday, December 27, Edeh stated that he and Ijeoma met on Facebook two years ago, and that their relationship blossomed to the point where he moved into her two-bedroom residence in the Lugbe area of the FCT.

He claimed that their relationship began to deteriorate when she started to question his every move.

''Whenever anyone calls me on the phone, she was always angry. I couldn't express myself. I can't stay on the phone for more than five minutes. She will pick offence. She will insult me''

Recounting what transpired on October 24, Edeh said he had an argument with the deceased over a Highlander car she gave to him, which he had sold without her consent. He claims the argument turned violent .

''When I came around, the argument started all over again about the car. It was at this point that she raised her voice. She started insulting and everything. She went to the sitting room, dropped her home theater on me which I still defended. She was back with the pestle the second time, it was really unintentional because I was angry and all that...I snatched it away from her and shoved her with it. When she was coming up, involuntarily I hit her with the pestle..That was when she fell down and started crying and saying why did I hit her'', he said.

Edeh stated that after hitting her, he took the Toyota Camry belonging to the deceased, along with her phone and some other belongings before leaving the house. He added that he was arrested on November 2 after changing the car documents of the Camry and selling it for N1.7 million.

Also speaking to newsmen, the victim’s elder sister recounted how she learned about the death of her sister, Ijeoma Felix after her gruesome killing on October 24 at her residence. She stated that she received a call from the caretaker of the property where her late sister’s apartment resided, informing her that Ijeoma had not been seen for days and that she might be seriously ill. Upon her arrival at the residence, she said there was a foul odor but that her car was nowhere in sight.

After learning that a report had been made at Lugbe Police Station, she went there but was asked to return the following day as the investigating police officer (IPO) was not on duty.

“The next day, we went there (Lugbe Police Station). Then we were able to meet the IPO. They had already made arrangements for the environmental (agency). We were even at that police station when the environmental people came. All of us went to the compound.

They went in; they brought out my sister, wrapped in her centre rug. She was smelling already. That means the smell I was perceiving (the day before) was my sister. She had been there for days, smelling! That was how we took her to Gwagwalada Hospital and deposited the body.

The car was not there. The telly was not there. The phones were not there. But you could see the charging things there. And they told me that the guy in question was the last person that came that Monday (to her apartment) and they didn’t see when he left and the car had not been there since he left,” she said, adding that the family wants justice.'' she told Channels TV

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the arrest of the suspect followed the directive of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba to fish him out and to ensure no stone is left unturned in dealing with criminal elements.

Adejobi stated that the investigation is still ongoing and warned the public to be cautious about their activities on social media.

The mother of slain lawyer, Bolanle Raheem, who was gruesomely murdered on Christmas day, December 25, by a trigger-happy police officer in the Ajah Area of Lagos state, has expressed her sadness over the loss of her daughter, who was her only child.

The distraught mum expressed her grief while speaking with Abiodun Alabi, the Lagos police commissioner, during a condolence visit by the latter to her house on Tuesday, December 27.

The deceased’s mother said she hawked oranges to ensure that Raheem studied law in university.

‘I cannot see my ‘The Law’ again. People usually call her ‘The Law’. She was taken away from me. She was pregnant with twins. She died with her glory. She left a five-year-old daughter behind. And they took her away.

On Monday, my granddaughter came to me and said ‘Grandma Iju Ishaga, I saw you yesterday when you were crying; you were shouting; is it because of my mummy?’ And I said ‘yes’.

Then she came again and told me, ‘Pastor Jerry said what God cannot do does not exist; so, grandma, stop crying’. And she kissed me on the cheek.

Just like that, she was taken away from me. Oluwagbenga (referring to the deceased’s husband), you won’t see your love. It is not easy. A child that I have been training since childhood. I suffered over her. I hawked oranges; there is nothing I did not do.

God please fight for me. My only child'', she said.

"This is ASP Ayuba, the rogue policeman at Ajiwe Police Station, Ajah that murdered a pregnant lawyer, Mrs. Bolanle Raheem, on Christmas day while the victim was returning from Church with her husband. We were at the station this morning and paid a condolence visit to the family."
